Knowing it is a worse line than the Savvy was all I needed to know. I'll pass. the savvy should have been the $99.00 Dobyn's and this line skipped all together.........IMO

Who has said that it is worse? Any news on it? What does your reply have to do with this person's question?

Just the May release date at this point and the rod models listed on the website.

That is all I have seen too. Read a couple of posts by guys who got to hold them (@ the classic I think). One liked them, the other did not. Not enough to go on up to this point. Need to wait and see when a lot more people get their hands on them and time on the water to get their opinions. Unfortunately, no one carries Dobyns in my area, so reviews are my only go to, to help me determine if I should buy or not.

I guess this guy has used them. you cant speak on a rod unless youve used it. Just because it's cheaper doesnt mean it's going to be a bad rod. Look at the Loomis Gl2, kind of a bad line of rods, now they have the E6X rods. Which so far are very popular.

Have you used the GL2 rods to be able to say it's "a bad line of rods"? I own one and like it. It's overpriced, but definitely not a bad line of rods.

fishing user avatarBrianinMD reply :

Have multiple savvy series rods, not dead at all. Must be the user....

fishing user avatarrippin-lips reply :

The argument with the Gl2 is what you get for the price. Not that it's a bad rod but not worth it or on par with other G loomis rods. Same argument with the Savy line of rods.

There are quite a bit of people on this site that either promote or demote baits or a line of rods without ever even using them. I have one person in mind who asks a question about a bait of rod then the next day raves about how great this bait or rod is. Kinda annoying.

Man, you dobyn's fan's are just getting way to easy............................... :Victory:

I doubt even you guys can argue with any success that the Savvy line was not a VERY dead feeling rod and really only good for moving baits. The Fury line must be better, I doubt it could get much worse.

I think I'm the only real Dobyns fan who is bothering to reply to you. I know that you think you are "winning" but not many people are taking what you say seriously. Especially anyone who has read multiple threads that you've posted on. So when someone comes on to look at a thread as a new member or asks a question, your posting background is pretty well covered by other members now.

Who has said that it is worse? Any news on it? What does your reply have to do with this person's question?

Sooo... About those questions I asked?

From what you have directly said you have used a 745dx to throw a frog... Used it for 30 minutes and couldn't stand it. Other than that a lot of the guys in your club think they are over priced. That's about it.

Savvy rods feel just fine to me when I am fishing a jig or a heavy dropshot and need to feel with them. I have never been able to figure out what "dead" means when referring to a rods feeling so I'm in the dark on not being able defend them in that regard. I think the slower actions may cause people to feel like the rods aren't as sensitive... I really don't know. Kind of like trying to fish a jig on a graphite crankbait rod... The rod would still be sensitive but wouldn't feel anywhere near as sensitive as say an extra fast graphite rod. But I will argue that the savvy is nowhere near garbage as some reviewers seem to think it is because I just don't think it is true.

Large challenge not being able to fish a rod beforehand. I will be happy to report on the rod after I have actually fished it. I've held it and it felt good, but so does just about any rod off the shelf nowadays ya know?

The Savvy rods are far from "Dead" or a "$99" rod. I have played around with many $99 rods and the Savvy blows them all out of the water in terms of sensitivity, BUT ALSO... incredible balance over any other $99 rod that I have held, as well as superior components.

The simple fact that you posted saying the Savvy should be a $99 rod either shows you are just here to bash on a rod company for your own personal reasons, or you definitely don't take everything into consideration when judging a rod.  It's one thing to say you feel as though there are better $180 options, and that you prefer X,Y, or Z, but no need to go overboard.

And in my opinion, dragging a 1/2oz jig with a 733 Savvy is anything but "DEAD". Is it my go to jig rod? No, I have many higher end rods that I use as jig rods, but would I hesitate to tie one on a Savvy rod, not at all.

my mistake, I didnt mean to word it as bad, but not up to par for the price.

fishing user avatarHogsticker reply :

Yeah, I 2nd the Savvy being rather lifeless. To bad really, cause it's a nicely balanced rod. I can't imagine a less expensive option utilizing a more crisp, higher quality blank, but what do I know. Dobyns is kinda like this imo. Persons who have used lesser quality sticks primarily looking to perhaps upgrade see all the fanboy posts all over the Web and take the plunge. The Champion series is okay, but personally I feel there are better options at every price point. Enjoy what you use, that's all that matters.

fishing user avatarOzark_Basser reply :

I owned the savvy 735. It wasn't too balanced. It wasn't a bad rod, but I feel like it was on par with the max series of rods, maybe a smidge heavier. I don't see where people are getting the notion that a lot of dobyns rods feel soft though. I've owned some champions and they honestly feel kind of stiff. To each his own.

fishing user avatarcurtis9 reply :

Wow, y'all take your rods personally.

fishing user avatarwebertime reply :

So the Savy is a rod designed in what 2008 or 2009?  Made it to market 2009/2010...  Technology back then is not what it is today...  Resins and manufacturing techniques have evolved in the 4-6 years it's been since the Savy was developed/tested.

I for one, am excited about them.  $109 is what a Mojo? Veritas? Carrot Stick Wild? Compre? IE nothing that is a standout, is still sort of an unknown or doesn't have it's established history of issues...  (Maybe the *** would be an exception).  Comparing a Savy to a Fury is like comparing a 2002 Honda Accord to a 2015 Civic.

The dobyn's are called a Powell Max fellas. or should we re-nick name them "Over priced junk"

One thing I can tell you is the Duckett's are better than the dobyn's knock off of Powell rod's.

Gary Dobyns helped in the development of the Powell Max. That's why Dobyns and Powell are very similar rods. Same guy was involved.

I'll venture to say that there are only a handful of people who are as big of fan of the Powell Endurance series as myself. I'll also say that being the owner of some Dobyns champion rods that they are better than the Max series, and slightly better than the Endurance series. The Dx is a good bit better. The price tag on the champ and champ Dx is a bit high to me for what you get but I don't buy at retail prices so for what I paid I have zero gripe about that part. My last champ was $129 brand new shipped. I've also fished with some Ducketts for a bit. Specifically the micro magic, white ice, ghost, and the micro magic pro. I saw nothing special about any them. They were light in hand but that's about all I can say. Sensitivity was decent but nothing special. Guides were annoying to string up and offered no benefit to casting. Don't feel they deserve the $180 price tag that most of them have. I will say the same about the $340 price tag of a Dx though. Everyone has their own opinion about gear but some of you have the mindset of what you use is 'the best' and also talk badly about other companies. One thing is for sure and that is if you have no actual experience with something then you should just keep quiet about it. I'm not taking about trying out a friends rod for an hour either. Also seeing as the Fury isn't even on the market yet so anything said about it is purely an opinion. Well we all know what they say about opinions and a______es. Everybody has one! /rant

fishing user avatarDocNsanE reply :

I'm not sure if I should go get some popcorn or if the show is over.

Opinions differ fellas, if you don't agree with someone that is your right. If someone doesn't like something it is also their right. In the end, it'd be nice if the discussion was constructive though.

So.... About those Fury rods that aren't out yet?

fishing user avatarCgrinder reply :

Let's keep it civil, gentlemen. Winter's almost over.

fishing user avatarHogsticker reply :

Why would I need more than a full hour to determine if a rod is all that plus a bag of chips? Also, why would anyone comment to post factual information about the Fury? I don't think anyone has one yet, do they? So we automatically assume this will be the 100 dollar rod to have because it says Dobyns on it? Self explanatory right there. Must be the bees knees, it's a Dobyns!!

Haha!

Dobyn's is kind of the IPhone of fishing rods. Are they good? Yea, but you can get something just as good for cheaper. I feel its more of a "hey, let's all be cool and jump on the bandwagon" sort of deal for a lot of folks. I'm not trying to point anybody out, just saying.
