Lew's Tournament Pro . . . What Rod?? 2024

Just bought a Lew's TP to use as my do-it-all reel and need a decent do-it-all rod. The only thing it won't be doing is cranking. For that I have a Lew's Speed Spool on a SC Mojo Bass 7'0 MH/Mod.
I find myself fishing a lot of spinnerbaits, flukes, top-water poppers, and some jigs. Throw in a few senkos and that is probably about it.
I was thinking of a MH/F rod at 6'6 to 7'0
Fenwick Elite SM
Powell Diesel
Powell Max
St. Croix Premier
Any opinions or ideas??

I don't think you'll be able to get away with throwing light/un-weighted plastics with it. I have the same reel, and I just can't see it covering quite all you want it too. For the rest of it I think you'd do great with a mh/f 7'. Personally I prefer the Premier and the Fenwick myself.

I throw unweighted flukes with my SC Triumph and Lew's Speed Spool and probably get them to fly 25-30 yards if not a little farther. I normally don't throw too many senkos and if I do it is while sight casting so obviously I am somewhat close, lol. I can't wait to get my TP out there and see how it works.

Ok decided on the Powell Max. Should I go with 6'8 MH/F or 7'0 MH/F. I am thinking 7'0 since I fish mostly from shore and need any extra distance I can get. On the other hand, the 6'8 is definitely more manageable size wise. How many feet/yards would I lose if I chose the 6'8 over 7'0?

You wouldn't lose much distance with that length but the things that may be affected are the weight and balance of the combo this is why people say to bring your reel to the store and get a feel for it on a rod with my tournament pro I found it balances well on most any rod but it seems best on my veritas

How do you like your Veritas? I have heard a lot of good things about them.

I love them and I'll just copy and paste what I have wrote about them before,the rod is extremely light, the sensitivity is up to par, the EVA grip on it has a comfortable feel to me, the white looks great,it has a ton of back bone, there are multiple models for plenty of techniques, their durability is great i have one thats been abused and no issues,they fixed the breakage issue and had great customer service when I complained, and cast well. I own five of them inluding the micro guides and cranking models. They are just solid rods. you can also find them on ebay for 80 shipped

I haven't had experience with Powell but I'd get the veritas and use the rest of the money for some nice line of it where me

I've got 8 Powells They comprise the largest representation of any single manufacturer in my rod locker. That being said, I just bought a Veritas last month to fill in while my broken Cumara is in for warranty replacement. For the buck, the Veritas is one helluva rod.
ain't it great the way technology advances and my wallet decreases.

If you're interested in another great rod for the money. You might want to consider the Denali Jadewood series. Their 7' MH Worm/Jig is $99 with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and I don't think you'll find a nicer rod on the market in that price range. I can throw all the baits you talk about with no problem with my Denali Rosewood 7' MH. I was skipping wacky rigged senkos under docks with it his spring. I was using a Revo Premier reel. I think a 7' MH is about as good an all around rod as you can get.

Can't go wrong with the Veritas for the money. Got a 7' MH/F and I throw pretty much everything you mentioned in the OP with it.

Veritas is a great rod for the money. I think they are stiffer than what they actually rated for. I have a MH and it feels like a H on other models. I have my tournament pro on a legend elite and love how light the entire combo is overall.

Looked at the Veritas and just did not like the reel seat. I also checked out the Vendetta, Crucial, a few G.Loomis (wishful thinking), and a good number of house brand Gander Mountain rods. But in the end, I ended up choosing the St. Croix Mojo Bass 7'0 MH/F. The truth is, I just like the St. Croix rods a whole lot. It is a decent rod and will handle what I need (spinnerbaits, flukes, top-water, jigs, and a few senkos here and there).
One day I will get something better but this is fine for now. I officially have two dedicated rods; cranking and everything else, lol.

None in my area. I look at it like this, I just spent $300 on new equipment, lures, tackle bag, and line. I really stepped it up a notch in all areas I think. I chose things that will allow me to be a batter fisherman. Right tools for the right job. Later I will step up to a true high quality rod but for now, I am set.

Ok quick update.
Took the Mojo Bass back because I found at my local Wal-Mart a Falcon Buccoo 7'0 MH-Med Fast that was super nice to hang on to and very light. I know it is a Med-Fast but i think that is a very good middle ground, little more fast that moderate but not super fast either. I am pretty sure this will give me a good all around rod.

I have my Tournament Pro on a 7' MF Veritas Micro and its works great. I spooled it up with 14lb Sunline Super and I can pitch T-Rigs all day and not miss a bite. They also balance very well together too.

Yup that is the one. Caught two off it the very first day on a KVD 1.5 Black Back Chartreuse. Man I love these new toys.

If you can spare the money I would get a Powell endurance 723. Its a 7'2" MH rod extra fast tip. I paired mine up with my Lews Tournament Pro and it balances perfectly right above the reel. The whole setup is incredibly light and I can cast further than I ever need to. I use it for texas rigged worms, senko's, ika's, lighter wake baits, square bills, jigs. Just about everything except for a standard crankbait. This setup is by far my most favorite right now. Not to mention the matte black reel on a matte black rod with the purple/pink trim is extremely steezy. It's a sharp little outfit man I would seriously consider buying one. For 160 bucks I'm convinced you can't but a better rod especially one that pairs so well with a Lews TP.

That may be my next rod. But right now the Bucoo is doing pretty well and am quite pleased. But I may buy another TP and then get a 723 like you mention. Stupid baitmonkey.

Probably a good call I handled the bucoos at walmart and I liked how they felt. I found my Medium bait caster to be a pretty specific rod. Its too much give for my taste and I use it for light baits: top water, 1/4oz square bills, flukes, maybe a really light texas rig/jig. A MH is going to offer you more versatility for the baits you want to throw as well as more sensitivity to fish strikes/the bottom when you are dragging/hopping/cranking/ripping along. The bait monkey is a whole different animal.. this is more of a gear monkey I guess?

Well see my thread in the Tackle section of the forums. I keep spending a ton on lures. KVD 1.5 cranks, Northstar Jigs, frogs, trailers, soft plastics, etc. I was bitten by both monkeys I guess, lol.
