Want A New Texas Rig Combo 2024

Hey all, ok so after the past few years and building up my arsenal. The baits I've used the absolute most Ive pretty much went as high end as I could afford while still being able to keep a relative budget. However I'm dropping a pretty Penny on a shaky/senko/tube exclusive custom spinning rod with DVT. With that said the next bait I've thrown the most of is a Texas rig, jig too same rod but hell of a lot more fish on soft plastics. Go figure. Anyhow my combo has been.

*** 7'3" M/F

Curado 201G7 w/ abec 5s on spool and handles.

AbrazX 12 & 15lb tests

This combo rocks! I love it and was considering the if it ain't broke don't fix it approach, but bait monkey is saying treat yourself and upgrade. On that note was thinking same rod length and action but *** and a Chronarch Ci4 HG.

I was thinking go custom again but something I'm gonna be brutal on I would rather have a warranty and a quick turnaround rather than the time lapse of a build. Unlike the finesse I'll handle my shaky rod with.

Throw me some ideas!!!! This will probably be a Christmas present to myself on Black Friday or something so I'm not in a rush at all. Just wanna get a idea of options. Reel is a given and about as high I'll go in price unless I can get a JDM for a good deal. Rod is really the kicker here.

Chronarch CI4+ HG is a great reel. Never tried an *** or *** so I can't comment there, but I would recommend the chronarch.

My go to t rig combo was a curado e7 on a 7'3 mh ***...then i screwed around and got a 7'3 mh *** and chronarch ci4...totally different and OMG awesome!

I have a hard time putting it down even when i know i need to not throw a t rig bait lol

Super light, crazy sensitive, wicked smooth and a deep caster! Its just a pleasure to fish!

I like my LTB, lews tourny pro combo a lot too but i absolutely love my ***/ci4.

I really like my three omens as well but the *** just flat out outperforms them in every way...only catch is ya have to like the reflex guides.

*Note: "Heavy" G. Loomis is about the same as MH St. Croix which seems strange

since my "Medium" St. Croix LES70MF is more comparable to MH in other brands.

I use Recoils on 13' steelhead float rods with great results. If you were to burn a bait with new braid you may notice a hum but overall I don't notice anything like that. They are durable and super light. A good choice for a sensitive, workhorse rod. FWIW a lot of the "warranties" offered are replacement programs that drive up the cost of every rod in the line. Whatever way you go, don't go into it with the idea that you're going to break something.

Actually looking at their rods some of the 4 powers say heavy while some say MH. Same with the 5 powers some say MH H or Mag H

Example 735C is MH and 734C is H. 733C is MH. 736C is H.

They are labeled as a mh or h in their respective series i.e flipping. They arent bunched together as a whole.

3/8 and 1/2oz trigs would be dx745

3/8 max trig is fine in a 744 but 1/2 isnt good

3/8-1/2oz jigs would be dx745

They're in different lines within the series. The 735 is a MH for a frog rod or whatever series it is, the 736 is above that at H

The 733 and 734 are designed for a different purpose.

That's a pretty bad explanation but hopefully you get the gist of it.

Ahhh ok that makes sense. Found DXs 25% off so I think it's a no brainer! Just don't know about a 7'4. Yea I'm replacing a 7'3 I tend to like 7-7'2 that's my sweet spot with my height for pitching without wacking side of boat. Always wanted a CS 735C but that's for heavier stuff.

Edit* I wish the 7' rods were full handle. Normally I don't care but buying top shelf ish might as well ya know.

The Lamiglas Infinity rods are on a par with NRX for less $$$. Off the shelf INF723C (MH) fits your needs.

Or a custom rod from equal or upgraded components.

Dont like the ACS reel seat and not too familiar with lamiglass. Especially if Im dropping big money. I will only custom spinning tackle. DVT is building me a rod right now

I'm a fan of 13 and Dobyns and before I fished a 13 I was going to go all Dobyns. So this is a tough call. I also want to try out the Avid X in 7'0 MH/F when it comes out. Theres literally 5 Dobyns Id buy right now and sell all my rods. lol Same time I LOVE the Omens and pretty sure id love the *** even more.

Do I need any rods, NO! Do I collect rods now? I guess. lol lol lol

Keep in mind every rod makers power ratings are different, the newer scrimless rods are very light and strong, ie; NRX for example. These rod feel stiff, however cast, hook set and control bass extremely well, Lamiglas Infinity and Loomis NRX power ratings are about 1/2.power higher then traditional rods.

I still haven't ordered and fished today, now I don't even know if it's worth it for this technique. I catch fish lol I'm leaning towards a 735C for other jigs different combo. ... d**n bait monkey.

Out my price range for a factory rod only reason I'm entertaining the DX is because it's $80 something off.
