I was wondering what line you guys use for crank baits. To narrow it down I have three categories
-Square bill
-1' - 10'
- 10' +
Thanks for the help
For me:
Squarebill - 20 lb fluoro
1' to 10' - 15 lb fluoro
10' & deeper - 10 lb fluoro
Anything that runs under 12ft., it's mono for me. Deeper than that, I use braid, but on a different rod/reel.
For squarebills and shallow cranks, minimum of 10 but usually 12 or 14, and that's mono.
Anything 4 - 10 feet, 10 - 12 pound mono.
Pure deep cranks over 10 feet? Ten pound fluoro.
#10 Sunline Super Natural Monofilament
#10 Mccoy Copolymer for all of my cranking.
Everything,,,Braid 832 Suffix, the only thing the style crankbait I'm using determines is what rod I'm using!
Question, what's your opinion of the Abrasion resistance of this line? I've heard bad things because its so thin for the # test that its not very resistant and that they are having break offs.On 5/27/2015 at 6:26 PM, roadwarrior said:#10 Sunline Super Natural Monofilament

12# Yo Zuri.
Mike
Squarebills - usually 40lb 832 braid with a 12-15lb FC leader, or 15lb Fluoroclear
Anything deeper - Sniper 12lb FC, and I have one reel spooled up with 40lb 832 braid with a 12lb FC leader
I know most guys will use 10lb for deep cranking, but I feel much more confident with 12lb.
Interesting topic to me, as I'm seeing much different responses than what I expected! can any of the guys using braid/mono explain why? I've always used a fluoro or copoly depending on how deep I want to get the bait.
To answer the OP-
Squarebills-15lb YZ Hybrid
1-10'-10lb YZ Hybrid
10'+-10lb Seaguar

Set your drag properly. I have never been broken off.
Well you know what I'm going to say. ......lol.
12# yozuri hybrid
12-17# copolymer depending on cover. I don't have any crankbaits that are rated deeper than 6'.
12 pound sunline reaction for all cranks.
I gave it a bad review before but it is growing on me.

Me too. from now on.
10 lb pline cxx
8lb suffix tri + for deep cranking, 10lb suffix trip+ for shallow.
I've yet to find s line that ties, has great abrasion resistance and nice feel better then suffix.
12lb Big Game for all of my cranking reels. I might think about putting 10ld Vanish on my deep cranking reels later this summer but Big Game is the real deal when it comes to price and performance for me.
Respectfully,
Thirtysixit
Power Pro for everything.
Thank you guys I like the mono for square bills

How long a leader do you typically use?
I'm just getting started with braid.. I put 832 on my pitching rod. I tied a 14" 15# leader on. Can I get away with a shorter Leader?
To answer the OP's question, I'm using 15 and 20# CX for cranks at this time.
* I'm making my way to 832 braid for all my fishing. After my first hook set with braid using my pitching rod it was all over for me. No more nylon!
15 pound invisx....for all crank baits.
For deep cranks 12lb Invisix and for everything else 10lb Senshi.
Would 10lb mono stretch to much for deep cranking? I'm wanting to try out 10ld Big Game for my DD22's....
^ no. ....it will work fine. Many thousands of dd22s have been fished on 10# biggame. They're like peas and carrots.
The issue isn't if it will work. ....its that there are "better " options now.

Thank you!
I keep it simple and use 12 lb Berkley 100% FC for all 3.

Keep it simple here as well but I use 10# FC across the board.
