Looking for something to throw these swimbaits with (8-10"), under $100
Muskie rod might be the best way to go. They are designed for heavy baits and heavy fish. Store brand might be the best way to go. I don't really care for gander mountain but they do make some good rods for under 100.
For you? I would select something with a good warrenty. ;D
Hey LBH: what the fellas this way are using, I have not used them yet as I have no swim baits.
OKUMA: http://www.okumafishingteam.com/rods/conventional/gsswimbait.html
the okuma rods or maybe a fig rig.
i havent fished swimbaits, but tackletour gave the okuma a good review in its swimbait rods war, a Best Value Award, and said for the price it cant be beat and is a steal. I definitely think thats the way to go
I don't know the exact cost, but Fish Chris is as cheap as you are!
Whatever he fishes is what you (and I) need.

I'm not "cheap",....I'm, "value based" ;D ;D
russ i just picked up a 7'6" okuma and paired it with a lefty cardiff 300A, any time you wanna try it out just lemme know.
just remember though, you break it, you buy it! ;D

7'9" XHEAVY.
65 bucks and free shipping from TW.
okuma is more than likely the best value at 100 bucks ...
That Daiwa rod is pretty nice looking. Too bad they are out of stock.
Although, I don't think I am allowed to put my Calcutta on a Daiwa rod. Some people would look down on that.

I really agree that the Okumas (only read about, dont have one) are probably the best deal out there, but they are actually $110.
I know its only 10 bucks, but under 100 is the request...

Popularity is my guess.
Production costs are a likely contributor as well. :'(

last i remember he uses okuma SPINNING rigs for throwing swimbaits. Not for the average user 8-).
Russ fishes both, but I think he prefers spinning tackle, too.

hrm... well if one MUST stay under 100 then i guess the daiwa and the fig rig rods are the only game left (for swimbait "specific" rods anyways).

I believe the only issue w/ that is the fact that you will pay shipping. Shipping for a rod that large will likely be considerably more than the $10 difference if you were to get it from TW.
Okuma if you'll pay the extra $10. Hands down.
If not, $100 for the Fig Rig rod.
Manufacturers "suggested" retail price.
Retailers can sell for whatever they want.

There 's something "unholy" about sitting a Shimano reel on a Daiwa rod and vceversa.

The 4 Seasons Sporting Goods, Bobs Bauits and Postipalks all sell them for 95 to 99 here. MSP is usally discounted somewhat, unless it is a company like St Croix and Fenwick that fix prices .

;D aint that the truth

I bought 4 out of 5 of my St. Croix rods at 30%-50% off. My Fenwick
Techna AV AS70MM at 40% off. You just have to be patient and look
for a deal. My deals were not "special", they were all available to the
general public.

If it wasn't for you posting the Reed Family link, I never would have known about Fenwicks being sold anywhere at a discount
If you want to go real value based and spend about fifty bucks Tsunami makes a saltwater rod I use that is good for big swimbaits. Downside is it is only seven feet long so you lose some casting distance. I use it for short pitch casts in areas with overhanging trees etc. so I like the shorter length.
The Diawa rod is a decent rod however they grossly overestimate its lure rating. It is horrible with baits near 4oz and above. For smaller baits like mine its not bad but I would still take the Okumas. Now IMO nothing competes with the Okuma for arround $100. You can buy better rods but not in that price range. Their lure ratings are good.
Hands down spend the extra 10 bucks and get a Okuma. I love mine (7'11" XH). I recently broke the tip guide and called up Okuma and asked no questions, just told me to send it back with a check to pay for shipping costs. Two weeks later I had a brand new rod at my doorstep. Rod does great with Hudds, Punkers, and anything else you throw at it. Mine is paired with a Shimano Cardiff 400, which is also a great reel for the money.
