Poll Which Reel 2024

fishing user avatarjchez444 reply :

can get anyone of these reels at the same price

fishing user avatarrmcguirk reply :

Love this topic. In the market myself for my first higher-end reel, in the $200 range, and the three at the top of the list are the Chronarch, the Lews and the Revo. Looking forward to the results

fishing user avatarflippin and pitchin reply :

Many of the members here are somewhat brand loyal but the truth is, there are so many quality reels in their respective price ranges and they perform at a high level. An angler could do well with any of the models mentioned. Personal preference.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Like flippin said you can't really go wrong with any of the reels you listed and it's really going to be a matter of personal preference.

fishing user avatarBASSclary reply :

Well everyone is going to have their personal preference and you cant really go wrong with any of the above reels, But I would personally go with the STX or the Chronarch.

fishing user avatarTylerVC reply :

You will be getting the best deal if you buy the team lews since it is a $300 reel. I suggest reading reviews on the reels, like on *** and tackle tour, then deciding for yourself. I have a curado e and a lews tournament and like them both. The lews is smoother but the curado e wins in castability. However, you probably can't go wrong buying any of the reels you mentioned.

fishing user avatarBrian Needham reply :

I am going to say the lews tournament pro, I know I is not the team lews but it is lighter and a very high quality reel.

I have a bunch and really like them and the lighter weight is nice too. Jmo

fishing user avatar38 Super Fan reply :

What's going on here? The Shimano isn't running away with this??

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

From talking to reel techs many will tell you once you meet/exceed the $100 price point most reels out there are solid quality. I don't really think there is a bad reel in the list you provided but rather minor differences. These differences are found in the reels brakes, weight of the reel, and exterior appearance, gear ratio, etc...

Best thing to do would be to try each reel in your local shop. See if one feels more comfortable mounted on a rod or if one palms better in your hands. Also adjust the brakes of each to see what type of process you have to go through to make changes.

Set a list of criteria for the reel and see what reel fulfills the most criteria and purchase that reel. I have used the Lews, shimano, and Okuma. I like certain things about each reel but if I could only get one I would likely take the shimano with the okuma a close second.

fishing user avatar*Hootie reply :

I am not brand loyal. I have the Lews, the Stx, and the Chronarch. They are all 3 great reels. In fact, give me 1 more of each, and I'll go home.

Nor am I. I have the Tournament Pro, an older STX, a Chronarch 101A and 100B while the 2 Okumas and the Pinnacle reel are all on my 'want' list. I don't recall reading anything about the Ardent reel, but I know all the others get excellent reviews.

This^ Both top-notch reels from companies that have been producing top-notch reels for many years.

I see the haters are already complaining. lol

fishing user avatartstone reply :

Chronarch for me...

fishing user avatarThe Next KVD reply :

Another vote for the Chronarch. I am brand loyal but I do occasionally try something out the box and the only brand that I don't care for is the Lews. Not that its a bad reel, on the contrary its very nice, just hate those paddle handles with a passion!!! Just wish I hadn't purchased one before trying one at the local tackleshop. Now I'm having a tough time selling it.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

It's interesting how consistant these polls have been over the years.

Always small samples (participants), but a standard result of +/- 60%

Shimano vs. the combined total for the field.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

No Daiwa....that would have taken a large percentage as well.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I voted for the Shimano, but in reality you need to do your homework. Get on the internet and see what other people think about them and what problems, if any, they are having.

Which Lew's reel do you have and how much are you wanting for it? I have never owned a Lew's, but my bass fishing guru swears by them. lol.

You may try shopping around for some non paddle style handle knobs that will fit your reel even if it isn't the same brand especially if you like everything else about the reel.

truly..... bass fishing is about "confidence" and we all have our "tried & true" stuff.
fishing user avatarBama n Bass reply :

I have the team lew's speed spool and it is nice. I am looking into a Chronarch for Xmas though. I just like good stuff. Do not care which brand it is.

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

I own the new STX, and let me just say it's an amazing reel. Everything from casting to the retrieve is effortless. The dual braking system is nice as well, so it makes for a good casting reel AND a good reel for flipping and pitching.
