If you have or have fished a revo I would like to know you likes and dislikes of this reel .I am looking at buying an sx and was wondering because i see a lot of used ones for sale.
i like the S more than the other models. ive only used the STX, SX, and the S though.
the S to me seems more user friendly. if you keep lure weight over 1/4 oz IMO youll like them all. i had no problems with any of them.
Hated the SX, loved the S, and never used any of the others. The new braking seems to be a good move on their part. The SX was birdnest city for me when throwing anything less than 1/2oz. Maybe I just suck at casting, but I prefer the centrifugal system in the S a lot more.
Have you been using a reel with 6 pin centrifugal brakes? If so, do you use more than 2 in the on position? Do you like the centrifugal brakes. If all 3 are yes, don't get a revo SX. I love my revo SX and STX reels, but I don't care for internal centrifugal brakes and I don't need to use brakes much anyway.
I have 2 STX and an S and just got a Premier...
Havent used the premier yet but i love the STX and S... no backlashes.. lots of power.. and mechanically sound!
Really like the whole line up. Ive fished with all but only own the S model. At the price, there's no real reason for me to buy any other. It's great and casts a mile!
Have the S and STX and love both. The SX has the same mag only brake as the STX, however some have problems casting the SX but not the STX. I have never used the SX so I can't give my own input. Here's a recent thread discussing the SX:
http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1260854566
I have owned most of them but settled on all STXs. I hated the SX personally(to touchy). The STX is very smooth and casts anything a mile.
i have the REVO SX ( and the INSHORE and TORO 51 ) i love the SX !! , it will take some gettin' used to , but once you do you will love it . very solid reel !!!!
I have at least one of each and a couple of costom jobs. I fished over 175 days with them last year. The old breaking system really took some getting used to and was my only complaint but the new one is great, easy and good for any skill level. You can't find a better drag system out there. If you need the power to turn a big fish and get him out of thick cover it has it.
Old and new version S reel -
Old version SX -
New version SX - :-?
Old version STX - :-X
New dual brake version STX -
The centrifugal brake Revo's were great reels. Those with only the linear mag braking weren't worth the effort. Perhaps the new mag braking system will work better. Those with dual braking will be excellent reels.
I've had an stx for a couple years and really like it .I've had no problems at all.
I just got an SX, and havent been fishing with it yet, but have spent a few hours toying with it and casting it. It's a precision piece of equipment, and I'll admit, I was all worried about it being out of my league from the other thread. After setting it up and starting out slow, I discovered that this reel's only fault, is that it's so nice! The thing just needs your love, and I swear, she'll throw a lure a country mile, smooth as silk, no backlashes at all. I love it, and I see at least one more in my future.
QuoteOld version STX - :-X
I received the SXT as a gift two years ago
and have fished it extensively. I think there
are better alternatives at the pricing point.
:
I have the Revo S, STX, Premier, and Winch and I love them all. I haven't really had any problems any of them.
SX - Too touchy + uneducated thumb = too many backlashes = sold it.
Gave Abu another try w/PRM - Only made 20 or so casts with 3/8 oz spinnerbait. Casts great, but jury is still out until I try again with lighter baits & time on the water.
Revo's are by far my favorite palming reels.
I own the Sx(2), STX(3), and have had no problems with any.
I have 7 or 8 STX's and absolutely love them. Nothing compares to them in my mind. The drag alone is incredible.
Number one complaint with the SX is how hard it is to set the cast control knob and magnets. I bought one for my son-in-law and he struggles with it for that very reason. I bought him the S and adjusted the brakes and he hasn't had a problem since. The S is the place to start and if you choose to add another, and can afford one, the STX is a very very fine reel.
I have
1 Revo S
2 Revo SX
2 Revo STX - old model
1 Revo STX - new model ( haven't fished it yet)
The S is the most user friendly, but once you get the SX dialed in you will love it. The high speed model is great. It does take a little time to get used to it, but it won't be long after and you'll be slinging it everywhere.
I have the STX and the Winch. I love the STX, excellent reel. The Winch is just OK with me.
I have owned and still own many different model Revo's. The SX is the only one I had problems with.
The STX is the king of all Revo's. The Premier is a close second.
I've only fished with the S but have no complaints, I really like it.
I own alot of s models ,1 sx and 1 winch. I see no reason to buy more than an s model. Its as good as any reel I ever used at a much lower price.
I've got 3 older STXs, a Winch and a brand new 2010 Premier.
The 3 STXs have been fished hard and I freakin' love these reels. While the Winch and the new Premier haven't been fished a ton yet, the initial performance has been great.
As a matter of fact, my first trip out with the Premier was last week. I had one of those magical right bait, right place, right time outings where I caught 15 in about 45 minutes. All on the new Premier. I wish I could break in all my new equipment like that
I have 2 of the s, winch, and sx's and 1 of the new stx and the s is hands down better than the sx, but neither the s or sx compare to the smoothness and control of the stx. If your looking at the sx just get an s instead you will be much happier.

Nice!
i just got a Revo S, I love it granted this is technically my first bait caster ( i had an Abu silver max for about a day, before i found a great deal on the revo s) so i guess i technically learned to cast on the silver max i had lots of birds nest in the silver max, but good thing from that is that i got good at getting them out..lol... any way last night i set up the revo s, I have 3 brakes on, and the mechanical brake set just right and on my first cast i got it all the way across my pond, something that took me a few cast and adjustments to do with the silver max, i like the flipping witch in the Silver Max, but the Revo S is much easier to cast just some minor tweaking at it was golden, the Silver max is a very good reel for the money but it takes more adjustment to get it to cast well and not birds nest
I've owned an STX since early November. I'd love to give an opinion on it, but between work, the holidays and the weather I haven't cast it once >
The SX is one awesome reel. I throw all of my light lures with it and never have a problem. It is the only rel I own that I can throw a deep baby n into a 15-20 mile an hour wind and not backlash.
also ive been casting a 1/8 bullet sinker with a 2/0 worm hook and a berkley powerbait 5" power shaky worm on berkley vanish 12#
I went through 3 models of the Premier and HATED THEM! For some reason the bearings screamed when casting, someone on the forum said it was normal and I also noticed that on a *** video. So I sold it after returning back to the factory 2x for said reason.
Bought, a Skeet Reese model for a great price and bent the knob handle on a hook-set > , nevertheless it was replaced by Abu under warranty. The replacement they sent me is a great reel so far and doesn't let out a high pitched scream when flinging my frog , it has no magnetic brakes so that may be a reason many people like the S model and not the others.
I too own a Skeet Reese REVO and love it! Smooth casting and light as a feather. I also bent the knob handle on a hook set. They are attached with what looks like aluminum rivets... It is my favorite reel!
I own an stx and 2 sx and love all 3.

Yesterday was the first time I got out to try my STX.
Keep in mind I have not thrown a bc in over 20 years. When I first got it I PM'd Micro for some advice on setting it up since I had read about how 'finicky' they were supposed to be. Thanks to Micro for the tips and advice.
I could not believe how well I did with it. I was expecting the worst and got quite a surprise. At one point I was throwing 4" tubes rigged on a 1/8 oz. tube jig without any trouble. I had the brakes at about 25% - 30% the whole time. I had a few minor overuns but nothing some further thumb education couldn't handle.
As for the noise, mine was quiet and smooth. I think the screaming issue was on earlier models and has been taken care of for a while now. Then again I could be wrong...
I have a SX and last years STX. I will be buying the STX as well. I didn't like the SX at first, seemed to backlash a little to much, but i played with adjusting it and now it works great. I like the STX over the SX. I use the SX to throw worms, jigs, etc. and the STX zoom flukes and topwaters. Both are smooth and cast well. I don't think anyone of any brand loyalty would dislike either ABU's. Everyone has their preferences, I don't really. I also have a Curado E5, and the BPS Pro Qualifier and like those also. Been using all of them pretty regular this year (all new) and have had no trouble so far. Don't worry on regretting getting one, you won't. Also, if the deals still going on, you great a great pair of fishing glasses to boot....
