there's an annoying click that I didn't notice in the store.
when spinning it, when the spool hits it's top it makes a click, when it hits it's bottom it makes click but slightly lighter .......its not suppose to be like that right?
Elaborate...I'm not following you here. When what hit's what top? Spinning or BC?
I mean when I spin the handle, and the spool goes up then down like a piston .... it makes a tiny click when the piston (spool) is at it's max height, and a slightly less audible click when at it's min height.
sry, spinning. 8030mg pflueger supreme
I haven't played with any Pflueger spinners in a while, but that is something I've never heard of. J Francho or one of the other reel experts needs to answer this one.
Take it and back get a new one. I had the same issues with the very first President I bought. Put your ear close up and listen on your exchange reel if it makes the same noise.
I know what you mean, I've had it happen with a Daiwa. Very annoying. I was told that it was something to do with a gear... I never got it fixed.
It does that in all of them and the patriarch also. I returned a supreme thinking there was something wrong but apparently not. I read in another thread that it was due to a sacrificial piece of tape under the rotor that they used in painting. I have the 30 and 35 patriarchs but haven't bother to check for the tape it does not bother me now that I know they all due it.
Not me dude. I can't stand to hear any noise coming from my reels. i don't want to hear any clicking, ticking, roaring, squealing, hissing or whirring during the cast or retrieve. NOTHING.
I can't stand a clicking noise like that .... gonna go back tomorrow, if the supremes make that noise, I will get a different reel.
btw
pflueger supreme 7.4oz reel for dropshotting, for $100 bux.....awesome buy if it doesn't make that noise.
stradic Ci4 7.2oz for $220, definately a noticibaly smoother reel.
if money is kind of tight, but the stradic price is not completely out of reach, which would you buy?
My son had one of the $100 Supremes... made it through one season. The screws came loose on the side cover, and it screwed up the gears... but at least it didn't click. He now has a CI4 and loves it. I have two CI4''s, and feel the same way. Some guys don't like the knob on the handle of the CI4. Neither one of us notices anything wrong with it.
To be fair, the new Supreme's ($150 or so) may be better reels? Although, I've read that a couple of folks have had loose side plate screws on the new reels too.
"They all do it"?
Hmm...
Upgrade to Shimano...None of them "do it".
Strong, smooth, silent and reliant.
Maybe the noise he has is different from what I'm talking about, but mine is not even loud enough to hear in a real world fishing setting. The only time I hear it is in a silent room and even then it only make the noise if the spool is vertical. A small.problem to deal with for such an amazing reel at a great price.
nybassin, the way you described it ..........is exactly what mines doing. It's probably why i didn't notice it in the store, and weirdly, the sound is almost unnoticable when mounted on a rod for some reason....weird
dam that's weird.....when holding horizontal there's no noise....but the more vertical you hold it, the louder it is.
anyone got one laying around they wanna test that?
It's just reminding you, every cast, that you should have bought a Shimano, or Abu, or Quantum, or anything else.

None of my Daiwas do that.
really? is pflueger that bad?
i did a search here before I bought it, and found that most people had nothing but good things to say about this and their other reels (including j franco, who's suppose to be pretty knowledgable about this stuff?).

I love both my patriarchs and wouldn't trade them for anything those guys offer in the same price range or even above it for that matter.unless.were talking Stella of course

except for the spinning reels that bound up when wet that they refused to fix.
Of the 19 spinning reels I own both for fresh and saltwater I have never heard that noise. I own 3 supremes that work flawless, an excellent freshwater reel. I would not spend more money for a freshwater reel.
My Stradic did that clicking noise just as you mention at top and bottom of spool travel. There is a little metal pin piece on/near a gear that didnt have grease so it click from the change of direction cant remember the piece#. When tilting the reel side or up the sound goes away cauase the piece shifts just a bit. I put a dap of grease and click went away. My Stradic makes other noise that I cant get rid of like a whirrr as the rotor spins 2nd one to do that. So from my experience the Stradic isnt all that quiet either. I have the gold Supreme XT & that is deafly quiet.
I love my reel
Same here as well. No problem with either one of my Supreme and President XT.

Their a good brand to buy , don't listen to the nasayers.
i got a little pflueger trion gx7 spinning reel that has worked flawless for me. just bought it this year...
While the sound can be annoying there is nothing wrong with your reel and typically becomes unnoticeable with line on the spool. The noise is caused by a change in momentum as the spool hits the top or bottom of its oscillation and reverses direction. It is more predominate in some reels vs others but there isn’t anything wrong with the reel. I have found it tends to be less noticeable when line is added to the spool not sure why other than maybe the added weight helps muffle the sound.
Went back, they all make that noise.
Probably the last time I'm gonna look at a pflueger product. $100 reel should be better than that. I never expected it to be a stradic, but did expect a relatively quite smooth reel that doesn't make noises and feel clicky during retrieve.
80% sure gonna pick up a second stradic, unless I find something worth it btw $100-$175.
