Had my mind almost 100% set on picking up a Duckett Micro Magic this afternoon. My plan was to pick up a 6'9" MH for plastics and tubes. I was going to get me another Revo S or even the new STX.
I really liked the way the Ducketts felt. Well balanced, loved the trigger too. Just didn't like the reel seat. I wanted more blank under the seat for extra feel. I know this isn't a huge deal, but one of the things that brought me to the Veritas was the hook keeper. Being most everything I will fish uses a Texas rig, it seemed fitting. The Duckett had a loop.
After an hour of messing with everything BP had, I got to the Shimano Crucial. Holy Hanna this was a sweet rod. I've always loved the technique specific rods. I ended up getting the 7'2 MH XF. I prefer EVA handles over cork too.
But it gets worse.......I talk a lot of smack on LMG and his Shimano Sermon, but I've never owned one. I bite the bullet and snatched a Curado 200G7. Set of reel grips later and fun moneys over for the month!
So far I've played around 200-300 casts. Not a single hiccup. Pretty dang smooth. It's a bit heavier than my Revo/Veritas Micro combo but still super light. The real test will come in the water.
I've owned a couple Crucials, they're pretty sweet rods. I've switched over to all St. Croix except for my 6' 8" ML drop shot crucial, haven't found anything that compares to that rod.
Them: Me:
I actually like the rubbery feel of the paddles, much better than the feel of the citica e I own
Enjoy your purchase. Ill be picking up a few myself to accompany some lonely rods at some point.
And this is a problem in what way?
Glad you found something that "felt" right to you which is the most important part.
And the Posse continues to grow...
Welcome aboard!
Too bad we aren't all "compensated" for our loyalty over the years. My old gray Curado 200 DPV and Calcutta 200B are still tanks and cast like they are brand new.
Whos hannah?
I have that same exact rod. You are going to love it. I have a Core 100Mg on it with 50# braid and it is a sweet set-up.
Congrats on your purchase!

That right there is some funny stuff!
I bought Shimano last year for the first time both rods and reels and let me tell you I will never buy anything else. I like others like abu and such but love my Shimano stuff.
It's only the beginning ....congrats on your new rig.
Sigh .... We lost another one LOL

I have been wanting to try them, but they only had the Mojo rig instock. I wasnt impressed like I was with the Crucial. I wont say never

I don't really like the paddles on this reel so I stuck some reel grips on it. Feels perfect now. Thanks

Well I was a die hard Abu guy. I have a couple of PQ's but until now, its all been Abu's

Thanks. If the reel was black, I would probably have bought one sooner.

I was kinda disappointed I couldn't grab that rig you had up for sale. That was one reason for the buy too. The Compre was alot heavier than the Crucial so I went with it. Thanks!

I cant say I will never buy anything else, but I am very impressed with it so far. I will need to hammer it down at the lake a few times to know for sure, but I don't think I will be disappointed. I very surprised now quiet this is when casting. I threw a 1 oz jig to over load it and it casted the jig to the moon, but I didn't have to mess with the settings at all. Its very similar to the breaking system to my Revo S. The Revo sits much lower, but both feel great.

Unless my Abu's all break down at the same time, monkeys fly outta my butt, the Jayhawks go on a loosing streak, and KSU wins a National Championship, I will always have more Abu's than Shimanos!!
Welcome to the dark side, lol.

I have been playing around with the settings on this bugger and wow, a 1/4oz tube off a MH XF rod is going in to orbit.
I was ambivalent on Shimano until I bought a Compre rod last spring and became a convert. I need a new rod for the baitcaster I bought and I'm debating on whether it's going to be another Compre or whether I'll end up with Crucial.
Heck, I'm not even opposed to the Sellus line based on what I saw in the store a few weeks ago.

I didn't like the Compres at all. They felt even more like a brick then the MH Veritas did. The Sellus is a budge rod, but for the money they are nice. I'd rather have a Sellus than a Compre. This Crucial is like heaven

Sellus is a great budget rod, have a few of those too. I have not had one complaint about the Sellus. I use them more for my reaction style baits due to the lack of sensitivity they have compared to the Compre rods I have.

I can see it now, soon you will have all your abu garcia items in the flea market...looking to trade for shimano rods/reels.

I have one that I'm thinking about selling, but the other 3 no way! My Medium Micro Veritas is the lightest rod I've ever owned. Paired with my Revo S, that little hunny is a dream.
My winch is the cats ass too.
On the standard rods the 7'6" MH Veritas are light and nice, but the backbone is too thin for me. I want that thick back bone (kiss my tail smart ellecks) and the Curcial is perfect.
I have 2 Gen 2 STX's. they are work horses that I could never get rid of.

And, so it begins!
Just messing with you a bit. You are always a good sport. I liked my revo reels as well especially the Winch, but, for me, the shimano E series is just so much more comfortable in my hand. I have been buying some cumara rods for as little as 90 bucks, and they are a major upgrade on everything else I have fished. I am looking at a 7 ft veritas spinning rod as I have a reel with no mate...but I am afraid the posse might ...run me out of town...

I haven't much experience with the Veritas so I won't comment on that but I'm surprised to hear a Compre rod compared to a brick. Then again, with the stuff I was using before I suppose anything would have felt like an upgrade.

I may opt for a Sellus for my crankbait set up. I'm still more inclined to go with a Compre but I haven't closed the door on a Sellus either. Depends on money that month.

I'm game for a laugh anytime. It sounds cliche, but the way LMG glorifies them all the time, I wanted to give it a shot. It's not my best purchase ever, but it ranks way up there. Kinda want to try the Cronarch now lol

Normally I can't tell a difference in weight that much, but did with the Compre.
When I learned of the warranty Shimano has and the few problems I had with my Veritas, spending that extra 60 dollars was worth it
Also not to sway you, I have the Veritas Winch 7'6" MH. That's a very sweet cranking rod. With that parabolic action and the length, a 1/2oz red eye goes into the next zip code. As for small quality control issues, the micros and the winch series Veritas seem to be very low. None with me

I am a member of the posse... (curado E5's and E7's and citica 200E7's as well as stradic 2500's with mostly cumara and crucial rods)...but retain the right to experiment as I see fit...so "they" will not give me my Shimano posse card until and only if I swear allegiance

Something in between those two in price is the clarus. It's very similar to the compre but to me is a little lighter.

Never say: " from this well I will never drink" ...... you end up drowned in it. I´m a Shimano-Daiwa fan but I a much bigger Shimano than Daiwa fan ( got more Shimanos than Daiwas ).
I'm going to confess that I bought my first Shimano a Curado E because of all the loyal fan base here. I knew that if I didn't like it I would have no problems selling it here. Needless to say I really liked it allot, I'm selling it now only because I have to switch to LH reels. I really hate to see it go.
