Hey guys im in the market for a flipping rod but need some help. I want a rod I can pitch heavy wood cover with but be able to throw a Carolina rig, football jig, and also be able to cast a 3/8oz jig. Basically a rod I can flip a 3/8oz jig with but still pull off and get good cast with the same jig. 3/80z jig will be what I use 75% of the time with this my price range is $200.
7' or so mh/f.
Truthfully, a 7'6" mh/f would be even better.
Brand is your choice- you're not getting junk at the $200 mark. They're all good sticks.
Yea forgot to mention I would like it 7'3'' or better. Im just having a hard time finding one that don't seem to stiff to cast a 3/8 jig. I was thinking maybe a dobyns savy or one of the new Loomis's.
I have a 7'3 mh duckett micro magic that I use for the purpose you stated and I love it. I mainly throw 1/2 oz jigs but it works very good for 3/8 oz too. It has a soft tip that loads up good with the 3/8 but it's also got a lot of backbone to it. And if you look on the auction site you can find them for $119 with free shipping.
I thought about a duckett. I really like the looks of the new loomis rods just afraid I wouldn't be able to cast a 3/8 with it.
Anyone have a 7'6'' veritas or veracity mh? Veritas is normally all I use and I now the 7' mh is more like a heavy wandering if the 7'6'' is the same way?
It's just as bad. Nothing changes.
Look really hard at the Diawa Tatula rods. Any if their MH or Heavy action baitcast rods would be ideal. They can be had online for much better than retail as well.

That's what I was thinking RW, don't think I should need to wait around for other people to get it and review. Im sure it will be great rod because of the name un-like some of the other new rods that come out and people are skeptical of buying.
Any H rod in your length preference would be fine. Once you add a trailer to your jig it becomes 1/2oz I use my powell endurance 714 for everything you mentioned. A $200 budget gives you a lot of good choices. The Tatula 7'2 would fit for what you're asking.
Check out FitzGerald rods from Florida - The flippping captial of the world !
Thanks Chris I'll take a look at those.
I have the same 7-3 mh duckett ... Same purpose .. Love it ... I fish it from the jigs to t rigs to topwaters
Shimano Crucial is awesome. Get it in the mh.

This is a solid choice, I've talked to a dealer that has handled these, "used them" says they are "Stellar" at the price point!
I did not order this particular rod, but I have one on order that should arrive
sometime this week. After fishing it a few times I will share my thoughts on
the Forum.

How important is a sensitive rod for this application?

Very important. When you're flipping sometimes the fish will just lightly eat it, and you won't realize what has happened if your rod is not very sensitive.
Probably just gonna go with a 7'3" vertias or veracity since there mirw like a heavy. Plus I know these are good rods.
I was at gander mt. and held a st. croix rage 7' 11" heavy moderate and it felt right for what you mentioned and it was on clearance for $100
7'6 feels weird to me couldn't imagine 7'11 in just 5'7 and stubby lol.
Fwiw I flip with a 7'11" veritas. I've only had it less than a year- but I love it. By flip I mean punching mats. ... that's the only time I flip.
The grass I'll flip won't be to thick I'll be casting mostly. Has anyone used a 7'6 mh veritas or veracity ?
i just ordered a 7'3" heavy temple fork outfitters tactical casting rod for 160 bucks to use a lot like you. I'll let you know how i like it when i get it.
I have the 7'6" veritas and Villain and they are great sticks
I'm a 6'1" individual and have short rod lockers. If I got a 7'6" or better, it would have to be one with a telescopic handle. I just bought a 7'3" ZX and I've had the equivalent in an ***. It works ok for me because I don't flip. I pitch and do some punching but I have only truly flipped once and that was simply to get to a particular spot. I think my wingspan and longer arms helped with the distance. Not sure I would gain anything for an extra 3 inches.

I haven't looked at the villain but im sure it is the same way, I notice on the veritas and veracity the 7'6 mh lure rating is 3/8 to 1-1/4oz is this because of the longer rod? Or is it beefier than the 7' versions? One more question for you cause I haven't found anyone else with a 7'6mh would you feel comfortable flipping moderate to heavy grass and wood with it?
I have brought fish out of some of the thickest mats I've ever seen with the 7'6" Veritas!
I also have a 7'11" veritas and an 8' Villain that are my favorites.

You are talking about the vertias 2.0 in mh right?

Nope, I haven't fished a 2.0

Ahh ok but is your 7'6 a mh? Just wandering cause I know a mh veritas is basically like a heavy everything else.
Yes it's a MH but it's not the Winch. I've had one for years. It was one of my favorites back when I fished from a Kayak with only 2 rods. It will do almost anything you need a rod to do from throw a 5" weightless Senko to a 3/4 oz jig...On 2/24/2015 at 2:16 AM, sprint61 said:Ahh ok but is your 7'6 a mh? Now days the Veritas is the least expensive rod I own but I still think it's a great stick.

Yea I really like them my most expenisve rods, but got osme money saved up so figured why not splurge a little lol.
I got a mh veritas 7'6 for 32 bucks at Dick's and I'm not sure what I should use it for.Would it be okay for a frog rod? Or jigs? I just started fishing and I'm trying to get my combos right. I have a lexa 7.1 on the veritas. Thanks for the help as always.

I own 4 veracity rods including a 6' 9'' MH/F. I love it. I understand people say they run a little overpowered but it is still close enough to not NEED an adjustment in power when selecting their rods.
The 7' 6 lure/line rating is slightly heavier than the 7' 3'' and 6' 9'' which if you will be throwing 3/8oz a lot I would not recommend even though you still can. But if you are looking for one with casting and flipping versatility especially if you will be only flipping a small amount I would definitely stick with a MH and not go with the 7'6''.
You had also mentioned your stature and I think the 7' 3'' is good if you will be flipping a good amount but if you will be mainly pitching/casting maybe even consider the 6' 9''.

Jigs t rigs frogs football jig Carolina rig with that set up . A mh veritas is pretty much a heavy everything else. I held a 7'6 heavy halo twilight and my 7' mh 2.0s are beefier and the tips are a lot stiffer and I've seen people on tv flip with those rods and thick stuff so why not the veritas?
7-10 ex heavy micro magic pro .. Shimano scorpion 200hg .. 20lb sunline

Frogs, jig, punching mats. .... that rod is a beast. You could do c-rigs and football jigs with it. ...but I personally like I tiny bit softer tip for that.
powell max 3d
I think the setup I've chosen is a lews tournament mg 7.1.1 of course and a abu veracity 7'6 mh unless somethubg at sportsmans warehouse catches my eye lol.

i have one of the new g loomis E6X. I bought the 894c jig and worm rod. I am the same as you and want one I can pitch a smaller finesse jig on but can still fish a heavy football jig with it too. So far the rod seems like it can do that perfectly. Haven't used it a bunch yet but it loads perfectly to skip a 3/8 oz jig under docks. and its 7'5 so horsing one out wasn't a problem. I've only had it a few days so I have only fished with it once but it seems like the perfect jig rod for your application.

Could you elaborate more on the Loomis rod? There's a lot of interest in this line..

I would if I could I plan on doing a big review about it after I have fished it hard for a month or so. But so far the rod is pretty light, sensitivity seems to be on point (I'll know more about the sensitivity when I get a chance to fish it a football jig on it). What I really liked was the action of it. It seems suits my needs absolutely perfectly. And it did some work pulling some spots out cover for me yesterday afternoon. Give me a few weeks and I will let you know how I feel and if I will buy more. From the small amount I have used it so far I am very impressed.
