I purchased a G Loomis NRX 873C from www.*.com a while back. I just now realized that it has absolutely no model number markings or any of the other markings that you normally see on a G Loomis rod. It just says "NRX" on it and has the G Loomis logo. This is making me nervous as I am aware of fake NRX rods being sold by certain vendors. Do all of your NRX rods have the model number, such as 873C and the action, etc?
You can call G.Loomis support and get the facts from the source.
I did and he said that it should have those numbers on it. I guess I just never noticed. It looked legit when I received it.
I only own 2 NRX the 893C and the 852S and they both have the model, lure weight, length, line weight, etc. on it. Ask Loomis if the company you bought it from is a certified dealer. If they are and it does end up being fake - you should get your money back or they should send you a new rod.
Hope it works out for you!
Matt
They are a legitimate. I looked them up on the G Loomis site. I called and they were very helpful and said that it shipped directly from their shop in California. They said that is must have gotten overlooked during the manufacturing process. It happens I suppose.

I have seen this before in stores and at fishing shows, they forget to add the writing on them in various spots at times. These rods are very inconsistent when it comes to quality control
Ask 'em to give you 200 dollars credit to their store for compensation
You paid for a product you did not receive.
Hurts resale value of rod. Ask for replacement if it bothers you.
yes. ask for replacement. if you ever want to sell it, it would be tough and you would have to write this as a disclaimer.
also could make it hard for warranty?
~Jason,
I believe every G-Loomis rod that is built by the G- Loomis facility has the size, action, power etc. on the butt with their logo. Some can pretty much tell by looking. They could also verify, for sure, by taking off the butt cap and looking for their coded mark inside the base of the blank.. However Anyone could, at the time, get an authentic G-Loomis blank without the decal. Rod builders, like myself, that bought G-Loomis blanks and were supplied factory decals by model to install with other custom modifications for resale. I have never seen a G-Loomis decal that only listed the logo without some description of the blanks character. Today with computer made decal aps bogus rods would not be hard to make. Most guys that fish "Loomis" however could tell just by picking it up. The last I heard G-Loomis no longer sells blanks.
I was wondering about that saw a few at cabelas that didn't have markings as well only the price tag showed the model number
Just to be sure - did you check the exposed blank behind the reel seat/grip and in front of the butt? This is where the rod specs are on all of my NRXs. In front of the foregrip, all you have are the Loomis logo and NRX as you mentioned.
This file photo shows the markings...

I personally would never buy a Loomis unless the money was actually going to Gary, but I will say that is one nice looking rod.

just to clarify my comment (to everyone's humor ) i've read a lot about the NRX problems , from all the breakage and lack of quality control , it is exactly like the carrot stixs years back . the Carrot Stix were super light and sensitive but then a lot of them started breaking . i totally understand brand loyalty , but come on, if this were another brand name , for all the problems and super high cost , the company would be flammed to a crisp !!! people can make all the excuses they want but the cosmetic flaws , reel seat failure , and rod breakage for $ 500 - $650 is incomprehensible . brand loyalty is sometimes blinding .....

Hey Hootie, did you know you and I share a very special bond?
ShimLoomis made three good NRX's. You have one, I have the other two.
And it doesn't end there.
They also made like only half a dozen good Curado G's, right?
You have a few I think? Guess what, I have (or had) the rest.
don't laugh , but i still have a 7' XH original Carrot Stix sitting in the corner of my room ,it's been retired for about 7 years

Despite the reel lockdown problem which they fixed, the horrible guide system, or even the really bad balance, you cant compare an nrx to a carrot stix rod !!
I'm lovin my Loomis, No issues at all. Rod and reel under 9oz's.
While y'all were funning around, I got off the internet and caught some delicious bass to go with my carrots.
Markings on my NRX are in front of the reel seat though. Wonder if it's a fake!
First generation NRX as you can see from the single tone foregrip. Still no problems after hundreds of bass and some other species.

Use ShimLoomis
And fear no fish!
I think carrot stick guy might have a point. I build a few rods here and there. One thing I've done is research ergonomics, guide layouts, stadic testing, and weight to death. These factors in my opinion are as important as the brand of blank in terms of a rods intended use and performance.
If you took blanks from gloomis and other top tier manufactures and they had the same type of characteristics based on a common sense measurement system. Outfitted them with the same guide train and layout. I'm talking down to a half millimeter and 1/00 of an ounce. Would one rise heads and tails above the other?
I don't know. Off the small Sampling of this forum I think it would be a tough call.
Op your concern for counterfeit rods is valid in this day in age is a true concern. Like mentioned a few pages back; calling the manufacture is your best bet.
Would be nice hear from the OP after Goose52 posted the image. Were the specs there?
what's going on with the cracked cork ??? forgot all about it till just now , i went to a tackle shop the other day and was looking at the NRX's and noticed the cork on one of the rods was split , i might go there tomorrow and i'll take a picture of it , still blows me away that the Gloomis brand loyals would still buy these rods ...

G. Loomis and NFC are not affiliated. If we could build NRX blanks, we would.

Nevermind. Figured out the position of the blank info and the logo from the tackletour reviews.
The blue rods have all the specs plus the logo in front of the reel seat, like my post shows.
The green rods have the specs behind the reel seat, but the logo in front, like Goose's post shows.

if i wanted a rod like that 873 , i would have it built on a St.croix 5C71MHXF-B , would Citra-strip the blank down to the raw blank , would wrap with micro guides , fuji skt split reel seet and have split EVA grips .
would be a lot lighter and stronger and ridicously sensitive, a killer 3/8-1/2 oz. jig rod ....

I was saying the same thing 5 short years ago. I saw a $100 Carrot Stik in a tackle shop and said "There's no way I would pay $100 for a fishing rod!". Now I own an NRX and have discovered what a pleasure it is to fish with a rod of this high quality. I may not catch more fish, but I enjoy the act of fishing more with this rod.
I own a Dodge Charger and love it. But I bet a Ferrari would be even more fun to drive.

Myself? I'm more likely to have a custom made.. But, I wouldn't condemn anyone for spending their own money..( Nrx ) I hear they are amazing.
I have driven a Ferrari, gtr, supra, audi, benz, nice cars but im a utilitarian every vehicle i have has to carry 5 people and be worked on anyplace or time if need be,my pistol grip baitcasters from all makers does all i need to do i have around 30 of them cheap to mid range i have yet to handicap myself.having a light weight rod to me isnt important i need durable and i can fish all day long with a 10 oz rod and reel combo.

no one condemned them , just wondering why with all the problems and shoddy work on the rods that people would continue to fork out over $500 plus on these .....
The silk screening is different for the blue and green rods. My guess is somebody at Loomis is color blind. It still should not have been missed, especially during the build process when the rod gets sorted to go out to get guides put on and possibly the wrap done. It then comes back with the guides done, gets sorted again, and goes to get the guides lined up. The logo matches the paper work that travels with the rod when it goes out. The wraps get rechecked. It then gets coated by hand (again should have been seen here). Then gets inspected and bagged (again should have been seen). Then finally stored in inventory by the logo, label and paper work.
Every station uses the logo to pass in on to the next during the production process.
If it is real, i am at a loss to how it happened.

Like pgersumky says ..if your paying 500$ for a rod that has a history of poor craftsmanship. IMO id rather use a rod that just gets the job done.its like saying hey i have a Lamborghini in my driveway buts its blown up.

So Chicken Little says the sky is falling (I don't think my NRX has the specification data on the blank).
Then we get about 60 posts of Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey, and Turkey Lurkey jumping on board and saying YES, the sky is falling.
Meanwhile, the OP has disappeared and we still don't know for sure if his rod REALLY is missing the data.
