That's what I call insulting those St Croix fin atics
I thought the same thing - that we were going backwards.
Anyway, .ghoti. and others on this board have that rod and most speak very highly of it as I recall. I have the Avid version of that rod and it's a nice stick. I love bargains, sometimes to excess, and a LTB for $128 shipped is not to be ignored. Until last night, I had 7 BC rods rated as light or medium-light power...now (when the long tube arrives) I will have 8 ! Good thing I like light tackle...
Well so much for the extra money I was going to have from this paycheck. How is a guy supposed to resist being able to buy 2 of the rods he really wants when he's basically getting the second one free?? Just not fair. On the plus side I'll have a new 6' 6" MH spinnerbait rod and a new 7' MH worm rod soon
Yeah - I was eyeballing that 7'mhxf too....but resisted....for now....
Yea those are some nice deals. If I only had some extra change.....
Thanks for the heads up, Capt. Bob!
Just ordered the very one you recommended (LTBC69MLXF) I don't think I can get a better deal anywhere.
Now, what reel to pair it with?
What do you recommend of these?
Shimano Calcutta 200GTB, Shimano Curado 100D, Shimano Curado 200E5, Pflueger President, or NOS Vintage Lew's Speed Spool? I use 10# and 12# mono/flouro line and cast very light baits: unweighted worms, Senkos, Rage Claws, small crankbaits.
I'd put a Curado 50E on it...
Curado 50e goes well on that rod.
What would u use a mlxf rod for? Senkos maybe but what else?
Well, I'm looking at Curado 50E's right now! Gotta find a good price. Anyone know of a deal?
I use it for 3-4" finesse wacky worms. Kills them down here. (Because no one goes that small) I live on a bayou and the bass will rarely go above 3 lbs. So the smaller the bait the better the chance.
Lots of weightless worms.....been killin' them on FishNFool worms too. Rigged weedless and weightless. Slow fall. Chartreuse/black.
I ordered the St. Croix Legend Extreme 6'9" ML/XF a week ago and I love it! I have only thrown light shaky heads on it so far, but i could see it working well with wacky worms too!
If you can find one, a Daiwa SOL would be absolutely PERFECT.
a 50E would be a worthy option as well.
Good deals there in the bargain room, they got to me too. LTB Sweeper Spinnerbait rod a few weeks ago, very pleased.

Goose, that rod is fast becoming my favorite stick. I've had it for two months, and have had it in my hands on each of the few outings I've taken this season. About half the time I've used only that rod.
Get one. And if you don't like it, I'll buy it from you.
I hated to be left out ......
I'm thinking about 8# line and a LTP reel

Dang - can't beat that recommendation...so I got the 7'mhxf too!
Good thing I recently "unretired" with a little gig that puts some extra coin in the coffers!
Steal Steal Steal!!
Here the balance point of LTB69MLXF w/ 50E I got the deal as well.
Captain Bob, you're really starting to cost me a lot of money. You convinced me into a Lew's Tournament Speed Spool, now this......thanks!
Wel, I took your advice and actually found a Daiwa SOL brand new and ordered it today! Was a tad expensive at $212.00 , but i bit the bullet and ordered it. Told them to ship Friday, since Wednesday we are about to be hit by Hurricane Isaac! I want to commemorate this extraordinary experience with my "Isaac Reel!"On 8/25/2012 at 3:30 AM, BASSclary said:If you can find one, a Daiwa SOL would be absolutely PERFECT.

Now , how's that for optimism. Going to ride this sucker out on the banks of the Little Natlabany River!
Wish me luck!!
thanks a lot i just told my self i had to go three months without buying a rod or reel i made it four days once i saw it
Silas that rod has a backbone for sure for a ML. Fished with senko today pulled out an ok keeper bass bout 6 feet back in pads/slop.
Thats ok guy's, I'm sorry, you can BLAME ME! I already have everything covered or would be on it too. But when I saw this ridiculous price it was time to share some love!! When I was young and raising a family I would have loved to find a deal like this! I mean really, you can unload it on flea bay and make a profit if you don't like it at that price! Boy does it work sweet with the Lew's Tournament Pro, or if you prefer, the slightly heavier Curado 50E, either way you would be hard pressed to put together a sweeter finesse setup for under 3 bills!! Plus the lifetime warranty!!
I hope the ones that got em let us know what they think of them when they arrive and use them, we'll be waiting to hear about it.
On the 6'8" MXF and 7' MLXF I use the TP loaded with 20 Fireline Tracer Braid (6lbs. test mono diameter) and Fluoro. leader 10-12' 6 or 8 lbs. test, @ less than 10.5 oz they are SSSOOOOO LIGHT & SENSITIVE, not a legend elite, but 1/3 the money and very close!
im going to use mine for weightless plastics should I use my curado 50e or my tournament pro
On 8/28/2012 at 9:07 PM, zachb34 said:im going to use mine for weightless plastics should I use my curado 50e or my tournament pro
Use whichever one feels more ergonomic in your hand, the TP is only 2/10 of an ounce lighter, not enough to really mater, either one will make one BAD **** setup! Drop shot, weightless plastic, tubes, grubs, lightweight Carolina rigs, you name it in open water!! I think going with the lighter weight Braid and 6 or 8lbs test fluorocarbon leader will be more important!! 20lbs test Tracer Braid work great with light setup's, If you use the 6 lbs and have your drag set just heavy enough to set the hook and light enough to play out your fish I have not had trouble with line digging into the spool, 8lbs test with borderline heavy drag settings can start to dig in a little, just remember to make a couple easy cast to get the spool running smooth again before you try and cast across the lake with the light lures!
Well, I guess it pays to live close to Wisconsin. Ordered the 6'9"mlxf very late Thursday night and FedEx was at my door today. Last Friday, I also ordered (per marching orders from .ghoti. ) the LTB 7'mhxf - that should be here tomorrow.
Interesting that, just using the 'ole shake the rod tip test, this LTB seems to be a bit stouter than the equivalent Avid 6'9"mlxf which I already had. Could be my imagination though.
For now, I've taken the round reel off the Avid and put it on the new LTB. I have a NIB Curado 50E I can put on the Avid. After I fish them for a while, I'll decide which reel ends up on which rod...

Broke down and grabbed a LTB. Cause I need another 7' mh like I need another hole in my head....
Got mine today!
FYI, They added more rods, however the prices aren't that great. I was wanting the 7'11'' Extreme that they had listed for $205 but now the price went back up.

Sorry Dwight but I have to disagree, I've always found Blue and Gold quite nauseating, always been kinda fond of Scarlet and Gray myself!
The rod and reel look great tough! I would keep it light and choose the 50E over the 200GTB, My GTB is my MHM crankin reel with a little polishing, abec 7's, and carbontex drag it is sssmmmmmooooootttttthhhhhhhh pullin drag or crankin and casting!

WOW! thanks for pointing out the new rods in there. How aren't those prices great? they are all over 100+$ off last years model...I wonder how long their 7' M/F and MH/F xtremes will be in stock in their bargain area. I love that rod and am tempted to get another for the price of a legend tournament.
Gotta love the bargain room. Now up to (3) rods out of there since I found out about it. Thank goodness the Extremes aren't 50% off yet or I'd be buying a couple more rods tonight!
Ugh, and I already bought one rod today! Where's my credit card? Which one is the flipping stick, can anyone let me know? It looks like the 7'-11", but no lure weights on it.
Thanks,

Yep, it's the $285? 7'11'' THAT WAS PRICED AT $205 a few days ago.
The site is temporarily down
I'm wanting a new spinning rod in ML, however they have M Extremes. Does anyone think that will be too heavy for dropshot / shakey?

sorry didn't really look but the point was the calcutta is much heavier than the 50E, it is a great setup and the Lews TP is even lighter yet. I have my Calcutta like I mentioned on a MH I just prefer the lightest setup possible for light finesse work.On 8/30/2012 at 10:06 AM, Goose52 said:That's a Conquest 50...not a 200GTB...

It would do fine. I use the 69mlxf xtreme for 1-16 to 3/16 shakey heads and it performs flawlessly

Yup - a Curado 50E weighs 6.9oz - a Conquest 50 weighs 7.3oz. If you want to call .4oz "much heavier" - have at it. If I wanted it as light as possible, I'd put one of my 5oz-class reels on it...but I don't get too concerned about fractions of an ounce...
I got mine today ad I'm done after them screwing up on the shipping address and I had to drive thirty miles to get it I check the rod and the tips broke off after I had the faster shipping and it was late
When I got mine through regular shipping. It was packaged very well with plastic air bags and soft wraps throughout the whole rod.
I am sorry to hear that yours came in broke...what model did you get?
I got the 7' ltb
Strange I got the same one I couldn't see how it could have broke in the tube if it was packaged similar to mine.
Is there customer service taking care of it for you? Its clearly not your fault

Sorry to hear that Zachb34, at 15 thats a bad start to your fishing career. But will assure you no rod company will take care of a problem like that better than St. Croix, there are plenty here that have dealt with them for years and will testify to that.
On 8/31/2012 at 9:06 AM, Hi Salenity said:I'm wanting a new spinning rod in ML, however they have M Extremes. Does anyone think that will be too heavy for dropshot / shakey?
I use a medium for shakyheads, works alright for me It will work fine for dropshotting too.
I couldn't say no. I purchased the drop shot and finesse jig in the LTB series. I'm really excited to try the latter, as I've had my eye on this model for some time.
Now it's time to figure out what reels to use. I have a Yellow Pixy that will probably end up on the ML. As for the finesse jig stick...I have a Chronarch 101D7 and a Calcutta TE101GT looking for homes.
I got both my rods in the mail Friday. Picked up the 6'6" MH/F for spinnerbaits/buzzbaits and bigger walking baits and the 7'M/XF for T-rigs and finesse jigs. It's raining for real for the first time this entire summer here, really makes me wish I was going to have a chance to give them a test run while the clouds and cool weather are here. Back into the 90's after today
Yesterday I broke my Powell into three pieces I loved the rod and would like another, but for the warranty I need to buy a rod tube, ship the rod back to California (from Wisconsin), and pay $60. So I am thinking that is all going to add up to around $90-100? I only paid $100 for the rod when it was on sale so it didn't seem worth it to me, especially with the St. Croixs on sale.
Instead decided to just buy the LTB69MLXF for $115.
I wish they had the ltb spinning rod on sale, id buy that right now...
I wish they would have a labor day sale id get one of the extreme spinning rods
Hey guys, since the Legend Extremes are in the bargain room I'm seriously considering the 6'8" M/XF spinning rod for weightless/wacky Senkos and some other finesse presentations. What I'm unsure about is the Recoil guides, never seen or used them. For a few bucks less then that rod on sale I can get a brand new LTB in the same configuration with the Fuji K series guides.
Can anyone provide any feedback or thoughts on the Legend Extremes with the Recoil guides? I generally stick to P Line Floroclear on my spinning gear.
Also to the gentleman looking for a Shakeyhead rod, they have the Extreme 6'10" M/XF spinning in the Bargain room, in the LTB line and 2013 Extreme that is a Shakeyhead rod with a line rating of 6-12 lb and lure weight of 1/8-5/16.
Thanks!

You should be fine with the P Line. Most people's gripe is the guides are noisy when using braid.

I broke my beloved brown LES70MLF earlier this year. I am going to trade-up to one of the new Xtreme sticks. I have a Certate 2500 looking for a home, and I think it will find that home on the new LX.
I use 6/2 832 and 10/2 super 8 on my extreme spinning rod and there's no noise at all. Larger braids tend to make more noise in the 40#+
Gone Phishin and Iabass8 thanks for the feed back so far, that's what I was hoping to hear.
iabass - would you say you're just as happy with the performance of the Recoil guides as with traditional guides?
Love to hear any other feed back on the Recoil guides and the Legend Extreme before I pull the trigger on this purchase.
The recoils are very nice and reduce weight on the rod. I prefer them but I also use fluorocarbon on my extreme casting rods so there is no noise. Only use braid in my 69mlxf spinning. I have not used or held the 2013 extreme and don't plan to because I like cork personally. There is a performance difference between the ltb and extreme but that's due to the blank. There are a few ltb I use over extremes due to the length and tapper offered in ltb. Both are very fine lines of rods.
lines like suffix performance braid sound like q chainsaw in recoils. Use 832 or super 8 if you go braid.
Iabass thanks for taking the time to provide that insight, it is very helpful. I have 3 LTB's so far, and an Avid, I like them all a lot so far but definitely feel the difference between them. If the 2012 Legend Xtreme's weren't in the St Croix's Bargain Room right now I wouldn't even be considering them. But that 6'8" M/XF being discounted to nearly the same price as an LTB is too good to pass up given everyone seems to agree there's a discernable difference between the two.
For now I'm sticking to PLine Floroclear, and maybe sometime in the future pure fluorocarbon. The fishing I have access too doesn't often get me into fish or cover heavy enough to need braid.
QuoteThe fishing I have access too doesn't often get me into fish or cover heavy enough to need braid.
There are reasons other than heavy cover to fish braid, most of my fishing is open water. For me it's better line management, more line capacity, thinner diameter with more strength, and no stretch. I only advocate myself to use it, if one prefers something else, use it.

Does the abec 7's make that much of a difference?
Finally able to drive to my house in the swamp.....water on road was 5e feet deep. My boat was banging at the top of the boatshed when my neighbors got it out before it sank!
While staying at a Value Place for a week, FedEx emailed to say they could not deliver the rod because the road was underwater and couldn't move it from their facility because it was labeled HAZARDOUS MATERIAL!! Pretty weird. I drove in the rain and picked up the 6'9" LTournament. Brought it back to the hotel with all of the refugees from Hurricane Isaac.
They were laughing because I was concerned about getting my rod when I might be losing my house.
Well, today, the water subsided enough to get through and my buddies had saved my boat....house was ok.

I'm glad to hear all is OK. That Sol is going to look KILLER on your new LTB.
I got the St. Croix casting LTB 7' MHXF/11 and I absolutely love this rod. I am looking to buy another rod from the bargain room but I am not sure which one to get. I am going to be using it for lighter jigs, t-rigs, weightless plastics (senko, rage claw) drop shot ETC. I am going to pair it with a curado 50e or a Daiwa Sol.
Which is the best rod for those techniques on the bargain room? Also, how much better are the xtremes compared to the Legend Tournament Bass's.? I want something with excellent sensitivity with the techniques mentioned. I have never pondered with paying so much for a rod so I was wondering what benefits would it give me over the LTB and how good the sensitivity would be on weightless plastics and the others I mentioned on Fluorocarbon line?
This will be a casting rod, thanks
I just ordered the same exact rod LTB 7' MHXF/11, this morning from the bargain room. With a price reduction like they posted I could not pass it up. Now I have a pretty good spread. Premier, rage, avid, and now LTB. I guess I am brand loyal.

It would be hard to imagine how much better, lighter, balance, sensitivity, power, you have to try it to believe it, the Extreme's and Elite's are the very best rods on the Planet. Just don't ruin it with a Diawa, go with the 50E or Lew's. It is a no worry buy, at these prices you can probably sell it on flea bay and make a profit if I'm wrong, problem is I am sure you will have a bigger problem as the more you buy-----well the more you will buy!

Whats the best rod left in the bargain room for weightless plastics and light jigs? The Xtreme 7' MHF?
Thats gone too...There is a 6' 6" Extreme and a LTB MHF left.
Mike
it really depends on what you mean by weightless plastics. Weightless power wrm type baits id go spinning tackle or at the very most the 69mlxf casting rod. Senko type weightless baits work fine on the 7'mf. If by "light jigs you mean 3/16-5/16 jigs with a trailer then the 7'mf would be a great choice. The rod shines in the 1/4 oz to 5/16 oz weight jigs. Anything more id opt for MH. If the smallest uou ever plan on throwing is /14 jig with a trailer up to 1/2oz or so then a MH xtreme would be better. When my jig rod was an xtreme i used 1/4-1/2 the majority of the time and the rod performed fantastic. On 9/9/2012 at 5:12 AM, skeletor6 said:Whats the best rod left in the bargain room for weightless plastics and light jigs? I have a MHXF 7' LTB for my heavier jigs I was wondering if the Xtreme 7' MF would work well for jigs around 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz with rage craw trailer either bitten down to a chunk style bait or a baby craw.....and by weightless I mean wacky 5" Senko or weightless t-rigged rage craws or other creature baits.
I used 1/4-3/8oz jigs /w rage craw trailers on an xtreme MH rod. going 3/8 (even though it's in its weight range) on the M xtreme rod can kill the tip action as it's really the top end of the weight for it. 1/4 to 5/16 would be more practical 3/8 is better suited for a MH xtreme.i use an Xtreme 7mf for the smaller jigs under 1/4 ( which is rare) and senkos/weightless plastics. for weightless plastics you mentioned i'd prefer the 68mxf but the 7' MF will work just as well.

This is one of my favorite rods, super light and sensitive, with plenty of backbone for bass and walleye plus Fast enough tip for good hook sets even in deep water. I only use a MH when I'm fishing cover like weeds and wood. If I am fishing a finesse rig I am never using line for leaders over 8 lbs. test. which is perfect on these rods.y
The new rods in this Extreme lineup are heavier than the ones being discontinued, evidently the cork is much lighter than the new ???? handles! I always liked the Elite better, old fashioned full cork grip. But at these ridiculous prices, if you got the money and can afford it load up, there unbelievable deals!

I have the LTBC70MHXF/11 for my heavier jigs and such, there are no more medium heavy rods left in the bargain room for casting except the 6'6 LTB MHF rod.
Will the 68mxf be good for jigs as well as weightless senkos? Or would I be better going off with the XC70MF? What differences are there between the 610MXF and the 68MXF?

So Cpt Bob, between the xtreme series left in the bargain room. You believe that the 68MXF is the best one left to purchase?
Could someone please list the pros and cons to each of the following rods left that I am looking to purchase. I am just being cautious because this is a very expensive rod purchase for me.
1.) XC610MXF/12
2.) XC68MXF/12
3.)XC70MF/12
4.)XC66MHF/12
I threw in #4 to see what the differences would be against my medium heavy LTB 7'
Help would be much appreciated as I am trying to get a great rod that I can use to compliment my LTBC70MHXF and my Powell 683c.
Thank you so much!

you're 7mhxf would be the rod i would choose out of any other rods you listed to throw the jigs you listed earlier although i would prefer 7mhf, i would still choose the mhxf over any thing else you listed. for weightless senkos the 68mxf or 7mf would be a good choice.the 68mxf can also double as a topwater rod. the 7mf would be a more well rounded rod than the 68mxf. i've used both and would prefer the 7'mf if you had to throw jigs/senkos on the same rod if the jig was no more than 5/16. i don't like throwing 3/8 or 1/2 jigs on M rods. those would be better suited for your 7' ltb rod.
rods 1/2 would make great topwater/senko rods but thats about all i would use them for in the casting version. difference between the two is 2 inches more of backbone behind the XF tip. very minimal differences. just comes down to length preference. i don't like throwing jigs with either of these rods in the casting version.
the spinning versions 68mxf/ 69mlxf are the greatest rods for pitching leadhead jigs /w plastics/lighter bucktails/blade baits made.
rod 3- very versatile rod. i would use this rod for jigs up to 5/16 oz/senkos over any of the others
rod 4- never used it. i don't like 6'6 casting rods.
Great Reply thank you!
So the 7' MF is the most versatile of the ones left. I have many 1/4 oz jigs that I will use baby rage craws with. Would this rod be ideal for those lighter jigs, or would I be settling?
My powell Max 683c Is a mhxf rated rod but is not as fast or stout as my 70mhxf LTB. I have been using that for my lighter jigs. Would the Xtreme 7'mf be better for the 1/4 oz jigs I mentioned?
And would I be seeing a very noticeable difference in rod performance, more importantly sensitivity by using the Xtreme 7'mf for weightless plastics and light jigs over the powell Max. Or would I be better off saving money and investing on a different rod.
Yes, you would see an increase in sensitivity for sure. Remember, even though the jig is 1/4 oz, that only takes into account the weight of the head. there are other factors that increase weight like the style hook ( light/med/heavy wire, yours is probably med), the jig skirt (not a lot) and the plastic. rage craws aren't terribly heavy but do increase the weight. St. Croix XF rods are definitely some of the fastest tips on the market so lotss of other rods with XF tips won't compare but are still good rods, like the powell max. the 7'MF would definitely fit the bill for your needs as well as other light-medium duty needs. I just don't like the XF tip (on St. Croixs) fishing BASS jig/plastics. walleye i wouldn't trade a croix for anything. If I wanted to use one rod for light jigs/senkos it would definitely be the 7'MF over the others as long as there isn't any sort of thick cover. I see you are in Michigan so you shouldn't have any issues at all with the 7'MF.
There's a guy on a different forum that is a very highly respected bass/walleye guide in Michigan's upper peninsula that can probably articulate differences in specifics for line size/rod type for your specific area much better than I can as the furthest north I fish is Red Wing, MN.If you want I can give you the site address and his name and you can just shoot him a PM. He's a really nice guy and very friendly as well as knows St. Croix Legend tourneys/Xtremes very very well.
