Daiwa BG or Fuego LT? 2025

After a few years my last spinning reel’s anti reverse has stopped working and I’m really not sure what to do. I was going to get another spinning setup anyway, so it’s coming sooner. I was originally going to get a Shimano nasci, a charter we were on last year used them and I got one for my dad but I’ve read on here the 2 Daiwa reels are better for the price.
I was set on the BG, and am still leaning towards it, but I have read a couple people saying that the Fuego LT is better for bass because it’s lighter. I really like the fact that the BG is all aluminum, but is it worth it for 2 more ounces? I make a few saltwater trips every year so if one is much better suited for salt then that’s a factor. I do most of my fishing for bass and the occasional catfish or other freshwater species. Planning on buying this tomorrow for Sunday fishing so I need to decide soon!

I have a BG 2000 and personally, I don't notice it's heavy even after 4 hours of use. My 81lb just turned 13 year old never complains about the weight of my Pflueger President 35...
Personally, I really like the BG, especially for the price point and I think saving a couple ounces is greatly overrated.

Yeah I was thinking that same way but I’m just afraid I’ll be using a lighter reel and switch to that and notice how heavy it is. I’m sure I’d be happy with either reel and am probably over thinking it.
Why did they have to make the Fuego so ugly compared to the BG lol
And I’m planning on pairing this with a Dobyns fury, most likely the 703. Hopefully cabelas has this stuff.

I have a Daiwa Fuego 3000H and it is a bit heavier than the LT version as you know, so my comments have limited value. It is a good sturdy reel though. I use it to throw weightless senkos around slop and coontail and the bass often take my lure deep into the thick stuff and it cranks em right back out (using braid). Those Daiwa BG's are all the rage in spinning right now I think but I have not used one yet.

I was going to recommend the BG, knowing that it is a saltwater reel. But after visiting Daiwas website they also list the fuego LT under saltwater spinning reels, so now I'm not sure. I would still recommend BG for the positive things I've seen and how people have recommended it for saltwater.

Yeah I would think the BG would be a lot better for SW because it’s all aluminum and stuff but with the mag seal maybe they say the Fuego LT is good for salt too. Not really a huge factor if they are both at least good enough to be listed under salt

I have my BG paired with a St. Croix Avid X. It balances nicely. I've heard some people say with the lighter reels, they feel tip heavy. The nice thing about the BG is that I was able to spend less on the reel and more on the rod and I don't feel I'm missing too much as well.

Just got them in. Love them both and can’t decide which one to keep. The bg is noticeably more “heavy duty” and heavy. Going to have to read up on the maggseal and air rotor because only the Fuego has those.

This might be of some reassurance. I have my Diawa BG2000 paired with a Fury 703 and I love it. It balances pretty well and I don't think it's a heavy setup. One more thing to note: the 1500 and 2000 size has SIGNIFICANTLY less drag than the 2500 and up, at least according to Diawa's website. I was pretty concerned about this when I first ordered it but I have no issues cranking it down enough to set the hook on big worms and similar stuff.

Yeah the bg has 13.2 pounds of drag, Fuego has 22. I have a casting reel with 15 lb drag and I landed a 3 foot shark in like 5 minutes.
I’m leaning towards the bg because I’ve read some negative aspects of the magseal and besides the weight I like the bg better.

Far be it from me to discourage buying reels and such but the AR on the original reel is an easy fix. If the original cost justifies spending a little send it in and I'll make it fishable.

It was starting to be really hard to turn while fishing salt too. Took it apart to clean and that was fixed but AR broke. I took apart the AR and wiped off all the parts but it still turns backwards. I’m not done with it and will send it in if needed, but what else can I try?

I have my BG 2500 on a Cabelas MXL rod and it's amazing. Used my buddies fuego and it's nice also. I honestly would say it comes down to personal preference.

I too have been considering replacing a bass pro spinning reel (wind knot city) with a fuego, or another bg or another shimano sahara. I have to say, this thread didn't help one bit ???? when I choose one I'll post how I like it. So far my sahara 2500 and my bg5000 have been great.

Unless you are seriously concerned about weight the BG is a better all around reel than the Fuego.
It has a carbon fiber drag, aluminum body, and a bearing in the line roller. All of which the Fuego is lacking but the Fuego weighs less and has super space age power oil around the main shaft.

I've had my BG 2000 for a few months now.It's handled Largemouth ,Smallmouth and a 30+in Carp without any issues.
After years of using only Shimanos,I've gradually shifted over to Diawa.,I now have a BG 2000,Tournament SS 1300 and I should be recieving My Tatula 2500 in the mail today.

Went out and caught a few smallies today. Very happy with my setup. Only thing is I couldn’t find a 300 yd spool of suffix 832 and the 150 wasn’t nearly enough (10 lb) so I had to get power pro again and after handling that suffix, the power pro was pretty stiff

Get some Berkeley big game. You fill the spool with the big game (I usually go about half or so depending on the spool size and # test) then spool the braid on over it. You're never going to cast more than 50 yards or so on a light spinning rig, no sense in having 300 yards of braid on the spool. I use big game mono as a backer and in the same # test as the braid itself. Even if I hook into moby dick and he strips off all my braid I can still fight him in without fear of breaking off just because I ran out of braid. I try to plan to get 2 fills out of a 150 yard spool.

My dad hooked into a freak moby dick last time we were in Florida and it ripped off all the braid and broke at the knot. Don’t think it was a bad knot but who knows. It wouldn’t of mattered because there wasn’t a whole lot of mono and it ripped off all the braid in a few seconds but it could help

From the Daiwa website the 2500XH is a 6.2.1 gear ratio over 5.3.1 on the non-xh model. Only comes in the 2500 size.
The only trade off with Fuego LT is magsealed bearings, if you want to call it a trade off, because apparently only Daiwa can service them. The BG doesn't have magsealed bearings.

What make is the current reel? Deep cleaning fixes most AR issues as well as breathing life into the rest of the reel. Send it in at your convenience and I'll take care of it.

Sorry I never got back to you, just saw this.
Ended up with the bg and so far I love it. Zero issues with it and it’s very smooth, only smal complaint I could think of is its loud but that might be something else. Actually going to USF for college so I’m glad I got a saltwater reel.
Pulled out the old shimano sahara last week and cleaned all the little parts in the AR and it works now! My rod I had with it broke a while ago so I got a SLX rod so the reel better hold up. Found out why it was binding too so if it happens again there’s a fix for it.
