Pflueger President Spinning Reel 2024

fishing user avatarFisherman) reply :

Hey guys, I'm getting a new Pflueger Presidential Spinning Reel with 10 ball bearings and was wondering if any of you have used one and how you guys like it?

fishing user avatarthe reel ess reply :

If it's anything like the Trion, which I think it is but lighter, you're gonna love it. I've been using that reel this whole year without the first loop in the line. It really likes Fireline 20#. The drag is super smooth too. If I may make a suggestion, I don't think I'd get larger than the 30 size. And if you just want to save $20, the Trion is a very good reel for the dough as well. Maybe the best $40 I've ever spent on fishing.

Have a gander at the search function, there are a LOT

of Pflueger Pfans on the site

For me, I strongly considered Pflueger President and other

models, but with side-by-side comparisons, Shimano

reels just felt better to *ME*. I wouldn't take anyone's

positive experience with Pflueger for granted. That was just

how I responded.

They're great reels from everything I've read.

fishing user avatarhatrix reply :

Well there is a reason it is the #1 recommended spinning reel. It's not expensive and built with quality components and just a workhorse reel. As for the weight I think a trion weighs less the. A president. The president has more metal parts and you can really feel a difference in quality between the 2. The trion by it self though is a excellent reel for $30.

fishing user avatarmassrob reply :

Best spinning reel for the money I just bought another one. Smooth drag holds up great. I don't see the need to buy any other spinning reels when these are so good and so cheap.

fishing user avatarLong Mike reply :

The President is the best bang for the buck of any spinning reel out there.

I'm getting it free from my uncle along with a rod! Is fire line 20# thin?

I do nothing but spinning, own quite few brands.  Of every single reel I own the smoothest is a trion 20, about 8 years old, makes some of the $200 I have reels look bad.  I do have a problem not only with the trion but 2 of my 3 supremes, the spool gets bottom loaded, I have to put a little less line on, not a big deal.  Opposite my 2 stradics get top loaded, easy fix with a few shims, each of mine have about 6 or 7.

I use my Pfluegers in freshwater, they're going strong for years, if I need to replace one most likely a president.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

They are the best spinning reels under $100 I have ever used, and are in fact better than some $150 ones as well. All mine are still going strong, they flat out rock. And you can use the extra money for lures. I don't think you need to go with a more expensive spinning reel than the President IMO.

Yes, it's about 8# mono diameter. There's the good tradeoff. You get zero stretch and the castability of a much thinner line. I use it to cast weightless Trick Worms, wacky rig & light treble lures like floating minnows. It's good for all the things in spinning that baitcasters aren't. I use it on a medium/mod fast 7' rod for the trebles and a MH 7' for the T-rigs.

It is visible though. If that bothers you, you can use a leader. I don't. It doesn't seem to bother fish. That's more of a fishermen issue when you fish stained water like we have here.

fishing user avatarFryDog62 reply :

I've owned many spinning reels - all the major brands, and many in the $150-200 range. I am slowly trading them all out and buying either Presidents or Supremes. Smooth, Bullet proof and if a part does fail you can actually get replacement stuff fast and cheap. I had a couple very nice, high end feels that needed parts and I waited up to 6 months to get...missing the whole season.

LOVE the Pfluegers...they perform and keep me on the water...

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I gave a President a try a couple years ago. I have 4 or 5 of them now. Most bulletproof bang for your buck spinning reel out there IMO.

I haven't noticed this with my Trion. But I bought a bigger one. I have another old BPS Viper Christmastime sale promo combo ($70) that I keep thinking has to wear out soon, but it won't. When it does, I'll head on over to Cabela's and get a Trion and one of their brand rods.

I think of how much equipment I've paid too much for that was worn out after a season. Pfleuger has their act together for spinning.

I have a 30 & 35 presidents! They have held up for about 5 years now with absolutely no issues! Like everyone has said on this forum, "Best bang for the buck!"

Do they get backlash often?

Backlashing is not a problem with spinning reels.  It's great reel.

So obviously you use their BC reels too. Which models? Are they of the same quality? Is there one model that is a particularly great deal?

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

I have the 6930 size and I love it for casting dropshots and throwing weightless plastics!

That's the older model. Those are even better than the newer version in my opinion. Good score.

fishing user avatarAllen Der reply :

just bought my girlfriend a 30 size pink President.  They are great reels but I prefer the lighter weight of the Supremes on my finesse rods

fishing user avatarhatrix reply :

I never liked the wood handles . But I am a fan of 2 spools

fishing user avatarChrisD46 reply :

Are additional spools easy to obtain for the Pflueger Presidents and Supremes ?

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I have two presidents.  Never had any issues with them.

You are correct, I do use their BC reels too.

I have used them all from the first Trion to the Patriarch and I have honestly had very few problems with any of them.

I have used the Supreme the most and it is a great reel but I think my favorite is the Patriarch.

How does abus orra line compare to the president aside from being a bit heavier?
