What's the best knot to for fluorocarbon I've been using a Palomar is there something better?
I'll use a snell if i'm tying direct to a hook. I've gotten quick at them so they don't take long to tie on. You'll hear both ways on whether or not it helps hook up percentage, but imo it can't hurt.
Otherwise I use the Palomar most often.
I also use the polamar most of the time, except for direct tying to a hook with a weight above it (texas rigs), not so much for hookups, but to protect my knot from the weight smashing into it. i know a bead in between the hook and weight works for this, but i like the snell personally... never had any issue with the palomar, as long as you wet the line and tie it rightish...

Palomar or double palomar here also.
palomar, sandiego jam, improved clinch..... it really dont matter.
pick a knot you know you can tie fast, and perfect.... all stacked up neat and pretty like.
I choose to use the improved clinch.
oh and whatever knot you use...... lube it up good!
not a quick lick either, go ahead and spit on it.... you have to make sure it slides good so it wont burn itself

Agree...
Now I use the SD Jam knot for all non braid knot's.
I, like a lot of folks grew up tying the improved clinch, but that was when mono was the only choice.
Now with all the different line types, I found myself getting away from it...
Like Brian said there are a some that still hold and hold good as long you take your time and do it right.

I had used the palomar, but had heard it wasn't the best for flouro so started tying the improved clinch. BUT hearing all you say palomar makes me want to immediately go back to it. It's my go to knot and for me the one i tie fastest and most consistently.....
glad i read this one....
well tightened trilene knot has been working well for me in braid and flouro

the palomar is probably the most popular knots in todays fishing....... I say if it is the one you can tie fastest and the best, use it.
The palomar is a knot that must be stacked correctly....... and I cant do it. I cant tie a palomar to save my life,LOL
Trilene knot for me. Use seaguar knot when connecting floro to braid in winter mainly because it's fast to tie and can get gloves back on in a hurry.
A properly tied Palomar has yet to fail on me.
Whatever knot you decide to go with, lube it up good before you cinch it down. Odds are you'll be fine. Pick one and practice it until you can tie it without even thinking about it.
I dont know much about this knot but I am gonna give it a whirl this year.
That is the double san diego jam knot. I use it for all non braid. Very strong knot.
palomar fan here, havent had a knot failure yet

You can use a Palomar with Fluoro you just have to be sure to wet your line, pull slowly, and make sure you line isn't twisted over yourself. It's the know I tie the vast majority of the time and I've never had an issue with it.

That knot is actually called the Jimmy Houston knot. He developed it in the 80's and it's one of the very few known 100% knot. 100% meaning that the when tied correctly it's just as strong as the line. It's a great knot, but you have to be careful when you tie it. If done wrong it'll cut into itself and it'll even snap while you're pulling it tight. If you can pull it tight and put pressure on it, you're good to go!
I tested and broke a bunch of knots when I first started using fluoro and I've found the pitzen knot to be very good and it's also the fastest and easiest knot I've tied.

Improved clinch knot for me.

This is the knot that I started using last year and it worked great. Extremely strong. Definitely worth taking the time to learn. Once you get the hang of it, it's really not too bad. Just tie it slow and neat and use plenty of spit when cinching it down. I have complete confidence in this knot holding up.

This is by far the strongest knot I've ever used on fluoro. It's well worth a little extra practice to use it.
Most of the time for floro its the double improved clinch or the trilene knot..
I always use the Plaomar and have not had problems with this knot and fluorocarbon. But I do make sure that i really moisten it up before tightening it and I do retie after every 3 to 4 fish.
Palomar, Uni, improved clinch, when well tied will all serve you well.
