I'm looking at the bb1 pro, is there another one that's better than that?
There is a more expensive reel the team lite. Is it better, yes maybe a little bit not worth the extra money. Imo any lews reel is a good reel. Unless your dead set on spending that much on a reel the lfs speed spool is excellent. The tournament mg is also on eBay for $89 I've ordered two.
i have a lews carbon fiber speed spool thats may best lews and its going on 3 years and cast like i just pulled it out of the box
Any of them.
I just purchased the Speed Spool LFS for $80 and have been impressed with it. A lot of reel for that price.
The best bang for the buck reels in the lews lineup imo are the Bb1 pro and Tournament Pro. Both great reels for the $150 you can find them for.
All are great but the TP and BB1 pro are exceptional for thier price when found in the 160 range. (Which is not hard, infact they can be found cheaper than that)
tournament pro is my favorite. I have the super duty which is also a great reel, and also just recently had a lews team lite, but sold it because I felt it wasn't worth the extra money over the tournament pro.
ColdSVT is right, I've found the tournament pro as low as $140 new, and for that price, I feel they are unbeatable
My Bb1 pro has been my favorite reel in my stable of Lew's reels. I'm excited that I now have a second one for deep cranking. It's going to throw a crankbait a mile!
I've been shimano guy but bout to pull the trigger on a BB1 keep hearing great things...
Whatever is the most expensive is probably the best. The new team lite looks really good
The only one I own is a bb1 pro and I think it is great. Not sure how it compares to the others.
Cabelas has the Lews tournament for $119 which is an absolute steal.......has dual breaking system and is straight butter!! I would pay $200 for that reel but I'm definitely happy I didn't have to!
The Team Pro and Team Lew's have the same mechanics as the Tournament Pro. I got my Pro for $150 and Team Red for $165. (New) My opinion of these reels is that they are pretty perfect out of the box. If you can't find the deals I found, the Tournament Pro should feel about the same. Same frame, brakes, gears, bearings, etc...
I have a Team Lite as well, but so far still prefer the versatility of the MSB setup.
I've heard some say that they would never use a dual braking system because it's a half hearted attempt at both...but after using all 3 systems, I totally love the MSB system. On a windy day, it's incredibly versatile. For lighter lures, it's better than the Team Lite. The magnetic brakes on the MSB system feel the same as the MG (mag only) brakes. Works just as good, if not better. The additional centrifugal control is wonderful. I turned my centrifugal off today just to see what mag only felt like in these reels...I could cast further with less effort when using both brakes in moderation. More control.
The Team Lite (MCS brakes) will cast heavier lures further for sure...until the wind enters the equation. The ability to control early overrun and end of cast overrun is excellent.
So if you can afford it and find a decent deal, the Team Pro is my recommendation. Otherwise, the Tournament Pro.
Like pretty much all the top brands, the models that retail for $100> will all be pretty good. Then it becomes about features and preferences.
I am very happy with my Lew's Reels. I own and fish a Team Lew's Pro, Team Lew's, Lew's Gold, Lew's Super Duty, Lew's BB1 Pro, Lew's Tournament, Lew's BB1 and a Lew's speed Spool LFS. Out of all of those Reel's the Lew's BB1 Pro is my favorite. Once you factor in the price, fit and finish, dual breaking and castability it simple can't be beat with the other Lew's reel.
has anyone fished the tournament MB the one below the tournament lite...just curious what everyone's thoughts are on that
I feel the tournament Pro is the best that I have used. I currently own a BB1, a Tournament, and a Tournament Pro and I must say that the Pro is leaps and bounds ahead of the regular tournament. It casts so smooth and it reels so easily. Funnily enough though the BB1 has the best spool bearings out of any reel I own (some are still new and havent been cleaned yet). Not sure if they are the same bearings as the rest of the lews but these stock bearings will freespool for a solid 40seconds while I have hawgtech, boca abec 5, and hedgehog bearings that dont freespool that long.
Like others have said you cant go wrong with the lews reels but I would get the best one you can afford for the type of fishing that you want it for and you wont have to second guess your decision.
I have the tournament Lite and wow it is a real dark horse in the Lew's line up! It can cast a mile! The only knock I have against it is the 85 mm handle. It needs to be the 95mm, which I bought and put on the reel. But, that ACS casting system is outstanding!! One of the best I've used.

Free spool time from reel to reel is not technically an indicator of quality bearings. A heavier spool will free spool longer. Bearings with no lube will free spool longer.
I don't doubt that they are top notch bearings though.
You just can't base that off free spool time.
I have 4 Lews The bb1 pro the tourney pro the lite speed spool lfs and the lite tourney lfs and find them all to be great ..You can't go wrong with any of them ..Good luck...
Sure the Team Lew's will be a a bit better than the rest, but you won't be disappointed with any Lew's so you can save some $$$. I have 4, a Tourney Pro, a SpeedSpool and 2 BB1s, with a Tournament MB on the way.
The SpeedSpool is awesome, a great reel for the price. Tournament Pro and BB1 are probably the best if you don't want to break the bank. I wouldn't see myself buying Team Lew's unless money was no option. I'm sure they are better, but I can't imagine being worth that much more money.
I had 3 standard Speed Spools last year. This year, I'm using (like I said) Team and Team Lite...and I was blown away by how much further the Team Lite and Team could toss.
Worth the extra bucks to buy the Tournament Pro ($150 all day long) over the standard Speed Spool.

Did the same thing
Probably the most expensive one is the best. But I have the LFS Tourney MB. I reviewed it earlier today in this very forum folder.
Since first replying to this thread, I picked up another BB1 Pro. I now have a 5.1:1, 7.1:1, & 8.0:1. I pitch docks with a tournament mb, but anything I want to bomb a mile, I throw on a bb1 pro. BTW, the bb1 pro is far better than the bb1. I think my next Lews reel will be a tournament pro g.
I have 6 Lews and can tell you that the new pro G is a great little reel and can be had for 160.00 incl free shipping, just picked up a couple .....
Team Lite.. ive been using mine alot and its a beast. It has a really good casting range because of the light spool so you can throw lighter baits which ive heard the bb1 isnt that great at.
I have 4 Curado's and 1 Lews Team Lite. I just ordered a new Team Lite for new rod I picked up at fishing show. The Team Lite lets me have more options to dial in casting distance.
Also at 5.7 oz or so, the Team Lite balances great on my rods and since I like palming the small size and lite weight is perfect.

i have a Tournament Lite also , got the Lew's 95 mm carbon fiber handle on it and Revo EVA grips on it . it weighs 5.7 oz. casts great , really smooth , and the ACB braking system is fantastic ...
I've had a tournament pro, bb1, mg and they were all nice reels. Recently I picked up a team lews pro z and whoa that's a step above!! I now have 3 of them...
I have a Team Pro and Team Lite that I used all of last year. I couldn't put them down because of how versatile and great casting they are out of the box with no mods.
I love how easy the brakes are to use on my Team Pro. I set my internal 4-pin brakes with 1 on and 3 off. For the external dial brakes, I set it between numbers 2 and 3. With that setting I can throw anything from weightless senkos, 1/4 - 1/2 oz chatterbaits and spinnerbaits, 1/4 - 1/2 texas rig plastics, and 1/4-1/2 oz crankbaits... maximum distance with no backlash.
About 2 years ago I went on a fishing trip with a buddy that was using a Tournament Pro and I hadn't heard of Lew's at the time until that day. He was consistently getting 10-15 yards longer distance than me, and reaching that strike zone fish were holding in. We were on a boat so being the nice guy he is, he'd troll us closer so I could reach it too. I had Shimanos and Daiwas with me which was why I became so impressed with Lew's and went out to by my Team Pro and Team Lite.
Well, I've been considering buying the new Tournament Pro G that Lew's just released but I don't really have a rod for it. If anything, I need a 5:1 gear round reel for my swimbait rod but I'll most likely get a calcutta or cardiff for it.
I have never met a Lew's I did like, buy the one according to your price range.

Most use the BB1 pro for bigger baits , I use mine on a swimbait set up ... Works great

Did the same thing with the handle minus the grips great set up
a lot of people overlook the Tournament Lite , don't let the carbon frame fool you , Lew's made this reel very strong and it doesn't flex ..........
I swear by lews an I love every reel I have. but I think my bb1 speed spool nudges the others out. I don't have the bb1 pro. an i don't have the more expensive reels but the bb1 is a great reel imho

I agree with you on that I bought one for fishing chatterbaits an it is a fantastic reel but I have to say the bb1 is my favorite.
Someone asked about the tournament MB. I have 2 TP's, 1 BB1 Pro, and 3 MB's. I've bought all the MB's most recent. I love the TP's but won't buy anymore because the MB is basically a TP without the kevlar handle. I can't tell a difference in performance between the two. The BB1 Pro is nice, but I like the MB's and TP's much better. Not sure what it is about the BB1 Pro, but I don't like throwing light lures with it. Just seems to perform better throwing heavier stuff. I throw a Spro Rat with it.

Agree with this 100%.
I have a bb1, tournament pro, pro z, and a MB.
The bb1 is my least liked out of these. With the MB being my favorite, and by the way the least expensive.
bb1 and bb1 pro .....excellent.....what brand of rod do you suppose carlm01 would go with ??
I have the Speed Spool LFS series, Tournament MG, 2 BB1s, and just recieved the Super Duty which I'm gonna use for punching mats and inshore fishing. They all have Thier place, and they all work flawlessly.

GLX
Has anybody owned a Lews spinning reel? I recently bought several Mach2's and both broke on me. The guts gave out on my first one, so, figuring I bought a rare lemon from Lews (my luck) I went and bought a 2nd one.
Well, that turned out worse than the first one...It snapped off my pole while I was lining it up.
Now I'm out $200, and despite all the really awesome things I've heard about Lew's, I'm not sure I'm going to try them out again.
I'm about to pull the trigger on the newest BB1 Pro but i also love the super duty.

Agree best lews is no lews
get a shimano
@raoka: Hi from the Massachusetts cheap seats (Pittsfield)! Been using a Tournament MB for three years and it’s still going strong. Love the smoothness and the distance I am able to cast. In fact, although I admit there are better reels out there, I can’t justify the cash outlay for a more expensive reel. I just am not discerning enough to feel the need for anything more expensive. But ... I am biased. I’ve been a Lew’s fan since the late ‘70s. The MB is all the reel I need and the customer service is great, too.
I have a lot of Lews reels. My favorite model is the BB1 Pro which I have three of.
I have fished Lews for several years, starting with the old narrow spool reels like the ones made by Shimano. I prefer the Tournament Pro, followed by the BB1 Pro. I am a retired teacher, so I don't have the money to buy new reels every year. The Tournament Pro is my favorite, but I like all of them. Additionally, I have found their customer service to be outstanding.

For $100 get yourself a Daiwa BG 2500 and be done with it. I am a self admitted Shimano fan boy but that is the best $100 spinner I have ever used.
Its so good that if I could do it all over again I would just buy a couple of BGs instead of my Stradic FK.
I just picked up a Lews MH2-300 spinning for skipping docks. So far I love it.

Another old thread resurrected. You should have started a new thread asking about the spinning reels as I can guarantee the vast majority of people are going to be thinking "baitcasting" when they open this thread. Also a lot of people don't read all the posts or skim through and miss some points. You will get more answers in a properly titled thread.
I agree with Patrick, look at Daiwa. I bought the lower cost RG 2500 for a brother-in-law and he loves it so far. Been using it for about a year and a half. Me...I stick with baitcast reels.

Unless 'recently' means over a year, you should be covered by Lews' warranty...and not out $200.
I'm selling a mint BB1 Pro in the Flea Market. Let me know if you are interested!

Lol. The virtual flea market on this website. Let me know if you are interested, I can send pics.
Going on 2 and half years with my Lews reels, and no issues.
I'm always going to be a diehard fan of Lews Tournament Pro reels. The tourny pro G's are amazing.
I have a custom pro slp. I used it some last year. It's really light and casts far and well. It's comfortable to use. I'm picking up some upper end diawa's and shimano's to test out this coming fishing season.
