would anyone on here say that theres any Pflueger reel thats easily palamable and adequate for finesse fishing? what do you guys think about the Pflueger Supreme and th Abu Garcia REVO SX
I love Pflueger Reels I haVE USED THIER SPINNING REELS A LONG TIME i JUST SWITCHED TO BAITCASTING AND WILL BUY A pREIDENT OR tRION bc BEFORE THE SPRING. i CAN NOT GIVE YOU FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE WITH THIS REEL i NEVER USED IT. I CAN TELL YOU i HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD PRODUCT FROM pFLUEGER
I have 2 presidant spinning reels and they have been great reels for me. I don't own any pfleuger baitcasting reels, but have been thinking about it. I use Bass pro shops, and Daiwa baitcasting reels.
I had a President ( for about a year) and it was a good reel for casting light baits.
Durabilty was an issue though..
They are one of many brands made by mother company Silstar. The new top of the line model previewed by BassMaster magazine looked impressive though.
I bought one and return it. That will never be a another Pflueger Reels on my equipment.
Can you say S H I M A N O

Jeez Bud, don't sugarcoat it so much. Just tell it like it is....
i love my pflueger reels.they cast weightless trick worms with no problems.

silstar is not pflueger's parent company.shakespeare is.they do share some common parts.so do gm and chrysler.so do a lot of manufacturers.
My first reel in the 1950s was a Mitchell 300 Cap. Since that time I've owned Shakespeare, South Bend, Pflueger, Cardinal,
Quantum, Garcia, Newell, Penn, Daiwa and Shimano reels (practically everything but Zebco). I've had a lot of good experiences
but the bad experiences stay best in my memory. I have simply outgrown most of those brands and for my money,
the best freshwater reels are Shimano and Daiwa. The many models available within the shimano and daiwa lines
offer the angler a wide variety of choices.
Roger
Shimano and Daiwa are tops. Quantums are pretty good too, and it looks like Abu Garcia is back in the game. I have heard more bad than good about Pflueger reels lately.
pfluegers are smoother and cast better than any reel in their price range, by far. Just make sure you take care of them and keep them lubed.

agreed
They are made by Silstar, so is Shakespheare, Browning,Bass Pro, Cabelas, Pinnacle, Strattford and on and on.

Careful there Muddy........you are subject to arrest, understand one of the deputies will be taking you in to custody in a couple months!
I love the Pflueger President I own, didn't care for the Trion. I own a Revo S reel that has become my favorite reel. Its a small reel, sits low on the rod, cranks fish to the boat with ease.I haven't used the SX model, not sure I would pay the extra money for the magnetic system and the extra bearings, in my opinion, the S model works extremely well with the revamped 6 pin centrifugal weight system. What do you consider to be finesse ? my standard weight is 1/8 oz. tungstun weight, both the Pflueger President and the Revo S will cast them with ease, although they are not the same models you chose, they the closest that I have to your choices. Ivan
there are reels twice as good as any pflueger that cost the same amount. Dont let people fool you. Name any pflueger and i can tell you a reel better that costs the same.
I'll bite.
President spinning. $59
Now your turn. Name a reel with TWICE as much value and explain why.
QuoteQuoteJeez Bud, don't sugarcoat it so much. Just tell it like it is....That is what I was doing. Telling it like it is. Bud
I must have missed it,lol al I heard was "I brought it back" no reason why.
I have been a shimano guy for years but in that price range, I'll take the president. Matter of fact, I took 13 of them, lol. Only had 1 fail in 2.5 yrs now and that was because of me. I broke the free spool switch. Anyone who has seen my videos, I abuse everything and the Presidents are still running strong.
I had very few Lower end Shimano's hold up like that, 2 yrs MAX.
If I were to opt and go to the next price class up, It would be a shimano, but for a $60 reel,....
I can say S H I M A N O, but I can also say P F L U E G E R. I own 5 Shimano Bantam Magnumlite 2001GT that I bought in 1974@ $85 each. I aso own 6 Shimano Bantam Curado's (Green 201 series, super tuned), 4 Shimano Scorpion 1001 mg 50's, 6 Shimano spinning reels 2 Stradic's & 1 Stella, 3 Custom X 2000GT's. On the Pflueger side I have 4 Presidents (WLPL) & 3 Supremes (LPL). I keep them cleaned & oiled & can say I have never had any trouble with any of them. I have caught big fish on both brands without any problem's. If I could only have 1 it would be a Scorpion because of the weight. my 2nd choice would be a Supreme. I think it's a fine reel. I just pick up a couple of Pflueger Summit's from the wholesaler for a couple of my fishing buddies & if they had a left handed model I would have one. So depending on what price range & gear ratio you are looking for. I would choose 1 of the following, Scorpion, Supreme, Summit, those 3 have 2 brake systems. On the spinning reel side it's the Stella but at a lesser price it would be an Okuma VS series of which I own 2. No matter which reel you choose keep it cleaned & oiled & it will treat you right.
I was looking for a reel to fish weightless senkos and jerkbaits. something small and palmable thats also dependable.
I don't like Pflueger b/c they came out with a 7.1:1 "Super high speed" reel, the Summit. It brings in a blazing 28 IPT. It just so happens a Pflueger President has an IPT of 28". So, Pflueger will sell you a high speed reel, even though they don't make one. Is that the type of company I want to give my business? NO!!!!!!!!
Mr MK Trout you bieng a self proclaimed tackle expert seem to have a lot of documentation problems and when asked for your experience Whats up with that of maybe Im dumb enough to miss it and your just trying to cause problems :-[
QuoteI must have missed it,lol al I heard was "I brought it back" no reason why.
LBH
The reason it went back was because it broke on the third cast. I have several Shamano that are 5 years old and they work like new. I know that a lot of people like Pflueger reels but I don't. That is the reason they make all kinds. I personal don't like any thing Shakespeare make.

I'm with LBH on this one. I love me Pflueger President spinning reel. Firstly, please provide an explanation as to what qualifies you to make the claims that you do. Secondly, as the old saying goes, put up or shut up. ;D
QuoteQuoteThat is what I was doing. Telling it like it is. Bud
You're just telling how it is in Bud's world.
I posted this earlier, but for some resaon it didn't post. What I said was ... I'm with LBH on the one. I love my Pflueger President spinning real. Please tell us why you are qualified to make these claims, and what factual evidence you have to support them.
I am a Shimano and Abu Garcia kind of guy but, I was fishing with a buddy of mine and he had a couple of Presidents that he had purchased last year and I tried one ( we were wormin ) and I kept it in my hands all day. I was pretty impressed for a reel to feel and fish that good for that amount of money. I think anyone who bought one would be happy with it. As far as how they hold up, I don't know but, they fish well as I said. They were loaded with #14 test Dura Tough. Good luck.
Hey Bud Congrats on your promotion is there gonna be like a dinner or something
ok, in the $59 range. The Shimano sahara. Its smoother, has a metal frame vs. graphite in the president. President also has that stupid wooden handle in an attempt to made it look expensive. Plus if you use the president for large fish they have a tendency to strip the gears when a lot of line is screaming out the drag. anything else?
This summer I caught about a dozen CocKtail Blue Fish Fishing by the Verrazo bridge Using a #40 President Reel The drag worked fine that day, the gears worked fine that day and Im still using it Look at LBH videos and watch him jig bas after bass with the same reels.
The rosewood handels are a Plueger thing even on thier other reels
I dont know anything about Shimano reels I never owned one many of my friends do and we spend HOURS i mean HOURS fishing together and both products hold up
PS Cocktail Blues are juville bluefish that run between 5 to 10 lbs and travel in schools in the ocean We follw the birds in our cars they tell you when the shcools move close enough to cast to them off the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn 3 of the fellas on that trip were uusing various pfluegers alll the rest Penns NO ONE HAD A MALFUNCTION ALL DAY

Hey muddy,
If you don't tell RW I will confess that I have a Trion on my 12wt Flyrod.
Ronnie (closet pflueger owner)
This says in general Pflueger reels. I can only comment a little on Pflueger spinning reels. I really have not had my reel long enough to judge adequately but preliminarily here is what I found.
Right before the end of the season I bought a Pflueger President 6730 from Gander Mountain coupled with a ML 6' 6" Berkley Lightning rod. I almost took it back right away because I noticed that when I lightly spun the handle that it didn't keep revolving very long. I went ahead and used it a couple of times anyway. I noticed with same weight line, lure & identical rod I can outcast it with my Mitchell 308
( by a long shot). There is a huge upside to the Pflueger when reeling in though. It is very smooth and comfortable. Thus I still like it maybe if nothing else because it is still tons better than cheap crap that I've bought over the years.
The only other thing that I can think of is that the line seems to want to twist up quite a bit. I had Gander put line on when I bought it; maybe they didn't do such a hot job putting it on. Also i'm not 100% sure of what brands of line is on both but I think they are both Trilene XL. The lines do look different though.
I have not fished the president enough to judge it yet. I did catch several decent fish on it and I battled a 4lber. The reel held up very well, made for a nice fight and felt sweet.
I'll report again in the spring.
See thats based on experience Hey RW me and Risk have a special challange lined up for the Fork trip When we get there we will explain I cant wait I wish I could go to sleep and Ron was outside with the BASSBUS yellin for me to get goin 8-)
QuoteSHAMINO ? Is that a new company ?
Yah, it's either a dysfunctional posse or a short-lived promotion ;D

I'm gonna tell a true story with a little embellishment (Happened this past summer) why a snoopy rod and reel is the best value....
Dad buys 4 yr old son a snoopy rod and reel......$10.00
4 year old boy gets free snoopy rod and reel and is very excited......priceless
Dad takes boy fishin off the dock with new snoopy rod and reel......more priceless
Boy catches 4 lb largemouth with new rod.....even more priceless
Boy now is smiling ear to ear holding up fish almost as big as he is.........now that my friends is VALUE!!!!!
Pflueger, Shimano, Daiwa, Quantum, Abu.....it's all good but how can you beat the value of that snoopy set up for that boy....
Moral of the story .........the value is in the fishin, the tools are just the tools
My apologies to the bait monkey........think I'll go to BPS tomorrow....Hmmmm, should I buy shimano or pflueger..... :
Riskkid,
Well put. That Snoopy rod on that day was worth a gazillion dollars. I remember years ago when my son was very small and I bought him one of those Snoopy rods and took him to a put and take trout stream on opening morning. He had his five trout limit in about 20 min on that rod and I never saw a boy so proud. I still have pictures of that day. Priceless. It always reverts back to the smile factor for me too. It doesn't matter what you use, if it works. All except braid--opps, am I bad ?
QuotePlus if you use the president for large fish they have a tendency to strip the gears when a lot of line is screaming out the drag. anything else?
We use these on Bluefish in Narragansett Bay, you've got to be kidding me.
QuoteThe Shimano sahara. Its smoother,.
Sounds like an opinion to me, not a fact. My opinion differs from yours on this one, this is why I asked for facts.
My point is, for $59, they are both great reels. I don't see the purpose for someone to bash a decent product simply because they favor an alternate quality product.
You're attack on the president is based on opinion, not fact. Things like ratios, capacities, types of bearings and how many, etc, you don't have a leg to stand on. Doesn't matter though, they are both good reels.
Now, to make an argument on your side, if the president lacks anywhere it is in the fact that people like Reelmech can't work on them. They all have to go to parent company to be fixed.
When mine are ready to retire, I will be switching to another brand but for this reason only.
QuoteFirst of all Im jumpin off this i use what I use because I work hard to buy my toys and you all do the same
Me also Muddy-Man
I don't thing Shakespeare profit share will go down or Shimano will go up just because I like one company over the other. That is the reason they make all difference kinds.
The topic of the thread was General Opinion on Pflueger reel and my is low because of past experence. That is my opinion and only mine.
When something don't work like it should I will just sent it back and don't buy that brand again
I have had several great days with a cane pole and can of worms. Not a Shimano , G Loomis or a LC in sight. I hope to have several more. Bud
Word. 8-)
but it just amazes me how people who have never even used a product can knock it.shimano makes great reels.i would never knock them without proof.i have owned shimano but prefer pflueger for various reasons.this doesn't mean i think shimano stinks.i think all manufacturers should be given the same consideration.
silstar doesnt own shakespeare. That doesn't mean they dont make the reels. Look at specs, its pretty clear who makes them.

Sounds like a fifteen year old trying to convince his fellow "geniuses" that a Ferrari is better than a Lotus.
Im just a self proclaimed tackle mook I think it best to stop arguing over nonsense and take my Pflueger reel and go fishing and you guys can take your Shimano reels and go fishing BOTTOM LINE we are both gonna have some fun
