Please have a few full cork models. Looks good so far, the green will match my Curado E7s nicely.
Seems odd to make your most popular rod series green, right after changing the color of your most popular reel from green.

x2
I always liked the older cork crucials, so i like the fact they brought the green back. Hoping they have a good variety of lengths & actions, id like to find a home for my conquest...
The cork handle looks nice, and while the improvements are probably valid, it still mostly looks like the previous Crucial, even the graphics look identical.
But hey, I have the previous and it's the best rod I've ever owned so it can't be a bad thing!
Conquest is just screaming for an Adrena, or something like that.On 7/11/2014 at 8:04 PM, thehooligan said:x2

I hear ya, i have it on a majorcraft corkish right now, would love an expride or adrena though but its not in the budget... Would defintely give the new crucial in a 6'8 medium action a shot.
Looks nice, although I'll probably won't get a new Crucial anytime soon...since I'll probably land a few the clearance ones. At 99 a pop, that is a helluva deal.
I will definitely be picking up the old black ones on clearance. Why did they go with green?
The last model Compre is kind of a dark green too. GLX is green. I think they just like green.

Foam handles is the only reason I've avoided Shimano rods in the past few years.
Maybe there's an $220ish aluminum Chronarch coming at some point and it's going to be green.
that would be interesting if it was a 50 or 100 size.On 7/11/2014 at 10:41 PM, Cgrinder said:Maybe there's an $220ish aluminum Chronarch coming at some point and it's going to be green.

$180 Curado I
$220 Chronarch aluminum
$270 Chronarch Ci4
I'd say the bases are all covered if that's the case.
Plenty of green reels out there...
I still like the AvidX but I can't tell ya the specs on the crucials guide trains , anyone know?

Green is money, all Their best selling stuff has been Green... Now how will a black and red stradic look on a green rod. :/
Looks good! I like that my white Chronarch 50e's will match any color rod!

You stay finding all the exclusive stuff, this, the Tatula HD... Impressed.
Well at least they went back to a cork handle
Reading about this on TT, as well. Cork handles, indeed!
1 year warranty, though, apparently. Meh...
Debate over the reel seat, balance, etc. There are a few more pictures there as well.
Spinning reel seat looks stupid. The one on previous gen Crucial/Cumara was and is my favorite on a spinning rod, period. hands down. No thread showing, Comfortable and practicly zero foregrip.

I'd prefer Shimano return to the same cork handles they had on the previous-gen Compre. My fave.
Either way, I want to feel them in-hand!

The Curado I costs $180. There is room for a $225 reel in the lineup. I don't think the Ci4+ has really taken off, especially with the Curado I around now.

The curado is a alum chronarch. I dunno what reel they would put at that price point... they really don't need it
Spoke with a good friend of mine tonight. He used to be the merchandising manager for Bass Pro, he still has a lot of connections in the industry. Apparently, the Crucial will be offered in split and full cork configurations. They have Fuji Alconite guides as well. The Clarus is getting a facelift as well, with IM8+ blanks and full cork handles to go with it.
Any idea what color the Clarus will be?

I'm looking for a cheap flippin rod. I hope it's black or a shade of red with a cork handle.
Claris and crucial getting the updates, Cumara updated last year, do you think the compre is too?On 7/12/2014 at 2:36 PM, Tywithay said:Spoke with a good friend of mine tonight. Not during ICast. Just the Terez, Adrena, Expride, Crucial, Clarus, a few saltwater spinning reels, and Calcutta Conquest; from what I was told.
I'd like to see an upgrade in the compre, especially in the reel seat, and maybe a little more variety in length and action. Be nice if they offered some kind of shaky head rod in the compre like they do with the crucial. I'm a fan of the blank and the comfort of the reel seat, but I had two of them that had the reel seat come loose when the reel was tightened down.
Wasn't the game plan from them
Citica/Sedona-Clarus.
Curado/Sahara-compre.
Chronarch/Stradic FJ-crucial.
Core/Stradic Ci4-Cumara.
I figured by how the colors were all similar as well. I remember Dave Mercer mentioning this. I may have the spinning reels mixed up.
2000 size spinning reels.... Please??
I don't understand shimanos marketing.. With the curado I, it seemed like they forced its release too early and didn't have any reels to sell, especially lefty's. now they decide to update only 2 rods out of the whole series??? Sounds like they are forcing this one out early too. I guess we will have to wait and see if the crucial can redeem shimano in the rod department like the curado I did even though it was forced out too.
I got the pleasure of being invited to the Shimano cottage in northern Quebec earlier this week and we got some time on the water with these new Crucials and they are a big step up from previous generations. They went back to cork both full&split grips as it seems that's what everyone wanted, the new custom reel seat is very comfortable to fish with and the carbon cross weaving really improves the rods taper and overall rigidity. I got away from Shimano/Loomis in the past couple of years when in my eyes they dropped the ball on a few items in they're rod/reel line up but with the new lineup they seem to have hit a home run and will have many angler back using they're products. It should also be noted they are stepping away from technique specific rods in the Crucial line up.

I think that's the best news I've heard about these rods yet! Can't wait to get my hands on a few.
If you take a sharpie and color over the technique on the old rods, they're just fishing rods. Doing away with that will improve sales, because some naive people seem to think you can't throw a senko on a spinnerbait rod.
For the guys who have, or know about them, what is the diffefence in this years Crucial and last years red Cumara??
Thanks
Mike
It looks like the crucial has cross weave graphite that seemed to only be used in shimano JDM sticks.
I've been on the fence about giving the Crucial a try for a long time. Coming out with models that have the full cork handle would have pretty much sealed the deal for me, but... they had to go and mess with the warranty and turn the rod green.
To be fair, I've always thought Lifetime Warranties ("limited" or not) on fishing rods was crazy, but it was definitely a nice selling point. And the green might look pretty sharp in the sunlight, but how about with a Lew's reel on it?
I guess I'm right back on the fence.
The problem in there lies with people putting in warranty claims with rods that are 10+ years old. We had a old Clarus come in the other day that was 5+ years old and we had to honor the warranty. In all reality if a rod is going to break due to manufacturer defect it will happen the first few times the rods on the water. On 7/18/2014 at 12:31 AM, EmersonFish said:I've been on the fence about giving the Crucial a try for a long time. The main reason for proof of purchase to honor the warranty is to weed out the folks buying used rods off Craigs list ect. breaking then and then asking for a warranty claim.
The green is hit or miss some will like it other won't, similar to the red Cumaras. I don't know how they will pair aesthetically with the Lews but I can say they do look great with a new Curado I
All lews reels are black or silver. I don't see how that could look bad on a green stick.

Believe me, I'm not knocking Shimano for the warranty change. I imagine that policy has been abused for years. If I were selling rods, even if they were of the highest quality, I wouldn't be so generous. But, I know a lot of people bought Shimano rods because they were comforted by the warranty.
I'll wait and see what the green looks like in person. I liked the black, but there are a lot of black rods out now. Maybe something different.
I'll bet a gold Conquest 100 would look great on the green 7' MH Crankbait Crucial!

Hi everyone, I don't post a lot but frequent the forum reading topics. Just a FYI from my recent experience with the Shimano Crucial rods: I had purchased in February 2013 a 6'8 Crucial M/H Fast action 3/16-5/8....split grip "worm" specific. The rod broke this spring May 2014 during the spawn while casting a Chatterbait with a swim trailer on it, I was heartbroken.
Needless to say the rod was barely a year old and thus I sent this back to Shimano in early June. After not receiving anything for several weeks, I called them. They told me the new series was not due out until the early fall of 2014, and I would have to wait until then. They also told me they couldn't offer a 6'8 rod size anymore and would only have 6'6 or 7'0 rod sizes. Additionally, they told me the split grip would not be available to the public until November, which sucked for me because I liked that style.
I received my rod yesterday and my initial thoughts are these: The cork is supple, soft yet feels durable, and is a full grip. The rod they sent me is a 7'0 3/16-5/8 MH fast action. My old crucial was jet black which I loved, this is green until the first fugi eyelet and then it turns this carbon fiber black looking color, kind of weird but it grew on me.
I fished it from my kayak for 6 hours last night. I threw mostly 1/8 weights with soft plastics all night and had some success catching 16 bass total. The rod held up fine, the eyelits look a little smaller and "tougher" than those on my old crucial rod and the reel seat feels great in your hand with my Sahara 3000 reel. It is light, (compared to my St. Croix mojo bass 7FT MHF) but had enough backbone to get the job done. Small bites were more detectable than my St. Croix mojo bass.
To sum this up, if you are in need of the split grip, it looks like it wont come til Noveber, from what the customer service said. If you were in love with the jet black color of the Crucial, you might not like this Green/Grey combo, although I have to say it grew on me fast. Other than that its business as usual with shimano, appears to be an upgrade as it feels "tougher" than the past models, yet retains the same weight and feel.
I will try to provide pictures asap. I am assuming I am one of the first to have this rod as I have not seen it in stores? PM or email me with any more questions. Thanks everyone and happy fishing.
TW has split grip models in stock casting not spinning it looks like.

Ordered the 6'10" MHF split grip casting rod yesterday, since TW was showing them in stock. I have a weekend trip next weekend. I'll report back with how it performs.
I have over 30 hours on the new Crucial 7ft m/h/f since 7/25/14. The only problem I have had so far is when reeling in slack line at a rapid pace, the line gets caught on the bait holder just above the start of the cork grip. I took a little hockey tape and put it over that bait holder and it has done the trick. I haven't noticed a difference in sensitivity because of the tape.
Don't know why Shimano put the bait/hook holder there but it seems to be a nuisance.
