Best $250 Dollar Rod 2025

fishing user avatarjrauty reply :

I'm looking on purchasing new baitcasting rod and am looking to spend 250 or less. I want a rod that I can use for basically everything something very versatile. What is your opinion on what I should get? I was looking at st croix tournament bass any other suggestions?

fishing user avatarsofarfrome reply :

IMHO...*** *** Black Casting Rod 7'3" Med Hvy. $249 at TW. I have several of these in different power ratings and they are fantastic rods.

fishing user avatard-camarena reply :

Shimano zodias or crucial

fishing user avatarMolay1292 reply :

There are a lot of really nice rods available if you have 250 dollars to spend.  One rod will not suit everyone, make sure you take your time, handle a lot of rods and get the one that suits you.   Rods in this price range are the ones that you will have for a while if you make a good choice.

fishing user avatarbhoff reply :

Dobyns Champion, St Croix Legend Tournament, Kistler Helium 3, *** *** Black and I've also heard that the Daiwa Zillion rods are very nice.

fishing user avatarSilas reply :

Yesterday I ordered the St Croix Legend elite at the factory sale price of $252 shipped.

I consider that a possibility in the $250 class.

Update: received the Rod yesterday and was delighted!! Brand new Rod , perfect in every way.

I put a SOL on it lasts night with 10# Sunline mono and rigged it with a VMC weighted hook and a Keitech 3.8 Swing Impact Fat and will head out to the bayous tomorrow to try it.

I've had an LTB and I have an AVID now and the Legend Elite seems to surpass them both. Now I'll have to see how it performs.

fishing user avatarBigchunk reply :

Dobyns champion, all day

fishing user avatarJoe H. reply :

Dobyns champion. If the champion extremes are still around come Black Friday and the $300 price is still valid, you could get one for $240 from TW... I'd get a 744 probably.

fishing user avatarpoisonokie reply :

Major Craft MS-X 6'7" MH or 7' MH

Ultra light cross wrapped (up to second guide) high modulus blank, nice Eva grips, small diameter (not micro) titanium k guides with sic inserts. Perfect balance. Very crisp response, excellent sensitivity, and regular fast action that's great with braid. No shortage of backbone, either. Looks slick as hell, too. Rated 1/4-1.

Wow!  Excellent buy!  I wish I could take advantage of that deal...

fishing user avatarsprint61 reply :

Kistler helium

fishing user avatarCapt.Bob reply :

Yes right now if its a rod your happy with some Elites can be had cheap with free shipping. But everyday for around 200 bucks the St Croix Avid is more rod than can behad for anything close to 250,,, Why I always say,,,,,I think they are the best buy on the planet,,

fishing user avatarrangerjockey reply :

The Falcon Cara and KLX .

fishing user avatarDwight Hottle reply :

The St Croix legend deal is a no brainer. Second consideration is the kistler helium 3.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

You are in the custom rod price range, contact DVT site sponsor, PM for other rod builders.

Tom

fishing user avatarCapt.Bob reply :

$250.00 wont buy much of a custom rod unless you cut some corners on blanks and hardware.... I have a lot more than that in my Custom Avid Light!

fishing user avatarshaggydog reply :

I would get 2 of the new *** blacks before a ltb.

We just agree to disagree on this. $250 -$275 will get you a state of the art rod blank, reel seat and guide train. Let's what site sponsor DVT can do for the OP or he can PM me for a custom rod builder I use.

Sorry Tom but I have to disagree when backed by less than world class CS and unproven blanks are considered state of the art,,, as that was what I was referring to.... but I agree you got to start somewhere........ :wink3:

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Hydra NG+ Scrimless Blanks, Kagin guides are state of the art technology and available in a custom rod within the OP's price with a lifetime warranty, not all high qua.ity rods are off the shelf.

Tom

fishing user avatarCapt.Bob reply :

Yes that I agree with, components that only need assembled can be had for much less, but I thought we were talking Custom.... a true one of a kind built to your specifications, and precision balanced to the reel you choose, with no other rod built the same as it. But a lot of choices, that Legend Elite New from Croix for 250 or 260 bucks delivered is about as good price as I think anyone will find for that degree of quality with the best Lifetime warranty in the business!!

fishing user avatarRobert Riley reply :

I second the Dobyn's Champions.

fishing user avataronetime reply :

You're asking for a Dobyns Champion 734, I think most will agree, as far as versatility, this rod is hard to beat.

Yeah he is! That's a very versatile rod. The 704 is good as well, just a bit shorter, so it's nice for accurate casting and tight quarters ( for my bank angling brothers out there)

fishing user avatarillinifan4152 reply :

For me it would have to be St Croix avid X. Awesome rods and slightly under $250!

fishing user avatarMarcelP reply :

For $200 the Palms Molla with Torzite top guide, micro settings and solid tip.
