New Reel Help! ($150 Or Less) 2025

fishing user avataraveragebass123 reply :

There are sooo many baitcasting reels on the market, and i am kinda overwhelmed, but i have narrowed it down to a few. ($150 or less)

  • revo s
  • citica
  • pro qualifier
  • quantum energy pt (found one for a good price)
  • abu garcia ambassedeur c3

If you have a suggestion other than these reels feel free to say it.

This reel will mostly be used for 1/4 oz - 5/8 oz crankbaits and also t-rigged soft plastics, and jigs.

Oh, and on 12 pound line monofilament

fishing user avatarmc6524 reply :

Is suggest a Johney Morris. The duel breaking system is outstanding, and I've owned everything from a Diawa Zillion, a currado, and Abu Garcia and I only fish with my 12 Johnny morris's and my Zillions

fishing user avatarOkeechobeeAngler reply :

Out of them reels. The Abu C3 for crankin.

fishing user avataraveragebass123 reply :

Can a c3 cast a 1/4 crankbait far?

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

A reel with a level wind that disengages during casting is a better choice for throwing light baits.

Does the level wind on the c3 disengage during the cast?

No

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

I love shimano but have no experience with the citica. So my only recommendation is get a low gear ratio for cranksbaits.

fishing user avatarmjseverson24 reply :

pro qualifier is a great reel for $100.

fishing user avatarsaber2th reply :

Have you looked at any of the Lew's? I just ordered one, they have gotten great reviews. Worth looking at, more reel for the price!

fishing user avatarPondBoss reply :

Any of the H2O Xpress reels.

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

Revo S. Quality reel that casts a mile and just plain smooth all around. Best money you'll spend on a reel. I say that while owning a new SX and STX.

fishing user avatarjohnD. reply :

Lew's Tournament Pro $139-$149 free shipping (everyday) on the famous auction site.

fishing user avatarCiMo reply :

For the same price unless you just prefer the centrifugal breaks you can get the revo sx ... I love mine.

fishing user avatardwtaylor reply :

I would say citica e series. If you're looking for a left handed citica, I know a place that has several left and can't get rid of them. They are priced pretty good, and for the money they are asking, its probably the best buy. Pm me for details.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

Pro Qualifier and some lures with the leftover money.

fishing user avatarMSPbass reply :

I have other Daiwas, but people seem to really be loving the new Lexa 100's.  I mention this because earlier today I saw several going for $100 flat on eBay.

fishing user avatarBlues19 reply :

I love my Revo S.  If you want a Left handed retrieve I would think about the citica.  I have an old citica (its a really large reel) so I dont think I can really vouch for the new ones, but Shimano seems to be a solid brand. All I am interesed in right now are revos though.

I would go to bass pro if possible to try to see how they would feel on the rod you will use.

fishing user avatarSwampLife reply :

Im with the other guys that mentioned lews!

i was iffy at first but just got my 3rd one in and cant wait to purchase my 4th.. either the tournament or the tournament pro would be my suggestion but imo the $100 speed spool beats citcas and the revo s..

dont beilve us go read reviews on any website.

fishing user avatarTartan34 reply :

I have a bunch of PQs and love them.....BUT I just started fishing with a Lexa that I scored on eBay for less than $100.  I would go that route all day long, if I had the choice.  My PQs are great, but that Lexa for that price is a steal.

fishing user avatarCapt.Bob reply :

Lew's BB1 or the Tournament, great reels around $110.00, and great buy's

fishing user avatarArv reply :

The Pro Qualifier is on sale for 80 bucks right now. I'd jump on that. I have 2 and I put them right up there with my other more expensive reels. For the money, it will be hard to find a better reel IMO, especially at $80.

fishing user avatar5dollarsplash reply :

Lew's. I love my tourney pro. I bought it after owning a couple shimano and a Abu s. it's become a go to reel for me. Smooth and fast usually don't go together so well.

fishing user avatarTrackick9707 reply :

I was gonna buy a C3 last year but ended up spending the extra $10 on a C4 and I couldn't be happier.  The thumb bar and internal braking set up are worth the money to step up.  That being said, I just bought a Lews speed spool tournament mg for 129 at a box store and the little bit that I have used it so far it seems to be money very well spent.

Where did you find them for $110?  I am interested in the BB1.
