Which Revo? 2025

Ok I have been a Shimano user for years and was curious about the Revos and which one of the higher end ones everyone liked?I did buy one when they first came out but took it back cause it sounded like the gears where falling out,but it could have been just that one.Thanks for any help.

Depends upon what application and lure weights you are going to use it for. The S model with centrifugal brakes would handle heavier lures such as big cranks, spinnerbaits and flukes while my choice for pitching jigs and casting lighter weight lures would be the STX with Infini-spool and a magnetic brake system.

i have owned both the sx and stx. i cound not stand the sx while i find the stx to be amazing. i have read a few threads here where quite a few guys agree.

definitely not the S...it doesn't handle lighter lures well. go you go with a revo, go STX.

I'll have to tell my Revo Ss to stop handling light baits well. They cast 1/4 baits as well as my SCs, SXs and STXs. They must not have known they weren't suposed to do that.

i agree, i cast weightless trick worms and other light baits just fine with my S-L's

i'm actually pretty perplexed by this. i can completely loosen the cast control knob on my revo S and press the spool release knob and try spinning the spool by hand and it won't go more than 4-5 revolutions before stopping whereas my other reels will spin so fast, i can't even count them. i've tried lubing it with quantum hot sauce but it hasn't helped.
it's too late to return...i've had it for months. i guess my next step is to play with the display one at the local store and see if it spins more freely. if so, it looks like i'll have to send it in for a warranty repair.
trust me, i want to like the S but it's been thoroughly underwhelming so far in terms of castability. if it turns out that i just have a lemon, i'll happily take back what i said.

What's your brake situation? How may do you have ON? I have 2 brakes ON, 4 OFF. I use this for all fishing techniques.

i haven't changed a thing with them...whatever number of brakes they had from the factory are still intact. i typically don't like messin' with the innards other than cleaning and lubing.

There is a screw on the drag side of the reel just above the drag. You should be able to loosen it all the way with just using your thumb. If not, use a screw driver. Looosen it all the way, it will not completely come out. rotate the left side plate 1/4 turn to the right. Wiggle a little and it should come off. Look on the inside of it and you'll see 6 red brake shoes. Some are near the axis and some are away from the axis. How many are near the axis (center)? This is easy. Let me kow.

Chances are you have all the brakes on which is why. Take off all but 2 and it will help a ton.

They don't have to be set in pairs. But for me, two ON give adequate braking and great casting distance.
I try to set them symetrically:
two ON - across from each other
three ON - every other one ON
four ON - the two OFF acress from each other

You might want to go ahead and check it. Too many on will definately affect casting distance.
Here's how you open the Revo...

Here's what the brake on the Revo S looks like. Those brown things are weights that slide out due to centrifical force on their shafts when the spool spins. They rub against the inside of a brass ring on the side plate you took off. That rubbing produces friction that slows down rotation.
You turns a rake OFF by sliding down the shft until it clicks. There's a litttle tiny tab on the bottom of the shaft that will hold the brake weight down and prevent it from sliding whent he spool spins.
These can actually be a little stubborn to turn OFF and ON. I recommend holding the reel in both hands and using your thumb nails to turn the brakes ON and OFF. This gives you maximum control so you don't pop a weight right off the end of the shaft, or bend a shaft.
BTW, OFF means the weight is locked at the bottom of the shaft unable to move. ON means it is unlocked from the bottom of the shaft and free to move up and down the shft. (ON DOES NOT mean it is locked in position at the top of the shaft. Some people think this and think there is something wrong with their reel and there isn't.)

There's the problem, Hot Sauce has never been a good oil to lube the spool support bearings with. I use my S-L for weightless baits all the time

here's an update on my revo S:
well, well, well! since my revo S was only a couple of months old and i've only used it a handful of times, i never thought to clean it. last night, upon close inspection, i found there was some sort of black, oily gunk on the raceway for the centrifigal brakes. it was being scraped up by the two brakes that were in the ON position. i cleaned everything up as best i could and, for safe measure, switched the brakes to a different pair, added a drop of reel oil on each end and closed 'er up. man, what a difference! i haven't been able to cast with it yet but just spinning the handle with my hand, it'll spin very freely...something it didn't do before so i'm pretty confident it'll cast well now. my other garcias all casted fine but my S is the only one that uses only centrifigal brakes so i thought that was the culprit. thanks to everyone to help me solve this. and, yes, i take back what i said about the S

The Revo S is like to go back to the old Jurasic Shimano things.
Sx and Stx are very similar, if it is on your budget to go with STX.
