G Loomis IMX vs GLX 2025

I am looking for a new rod but is it worth the extra money to bump up to the GLX? Is it that much better for the $100+ difference? Ive been searching for the answer but i don't seem to see to many comments on what they think. Thank you for the replies

If you're loaded, go for it. If money is a concern, IMX.

There is a slight difference, but the IMX is still very sensitive. I think the GLX's extra sensitivity is worth the money when fishing contact baits like jigs and soft plastics. If you have the money, go for the GLX, but if you don't you won't be sacrificing too much with the IMX.

Hello there!

I just went through the same scenario myself this spring.

I opted for the GLX Bronzeback rod. Basically I wanted a go to spinning rod that would handle my Smallie addiction in the rivers, do other species duty and do it all from shore....mainly rivers. The GLX is in it's own class IMHO and the IMX is a darned FINE rod. You really can't go wrong with either but the GLX is magnificent in sensitivity, power and action.

I'm now ready to order a "universal soldier" casting combo and I think it will be a an MBR GLX and Calcutta TE.

I also .have an UL 781-1 imx and to me, there is no better trout/panfish UL rod outta the box.

I was also fortunate enough to fish, shoot and play guitar all the way into "tennis elbow" and consequently, less hobbies as a result ensued so I am happy I went as light as I could for the rods and reels.

I have the MBR GLX 783c and i think it's worth the extra money. Most sensitive rod I have. If your going to go with the IMX I think there are better brands for the price. All depends what you will be using the rod for. I want to get the glx 843 sometime, have heard from numerous people it's the best all around rod their is. The way i look at it is if I never would have bought it, I would be always wondering if I should have got the other one. Just my .02 Back monkey back ;D ;D ;D

unfortunately, the answer to this isn't so simple. take the MBR783C for example. the IMX version is 4.3 ounces versus 4.1 ounces for the GLX. the IMX actually feels stiffer than the GLX as the GLX has a slightly more forgiving tip although GLX is slightly faster overall than IMX. g.loomis' GLX rods often have fuji sic guides (or recoils) over alconites. like all luxury items, you have to pay a lot more at the top of the price spectrum to gain a little. short answer: if you can afford it, go for it.

If I had the extra money I would have GLX's but I don't so my IMX's are just fine. IMX"s in MOP are the best on the market other than the GLX. I also fished GLX's and the difference is very slight. Definately no complaints about the IMX's. It also does not matter to me one bit about split grips as others have referred to the cork handles as old and outdated. The name of the game is to catch fish!!!!!

I take it that I'm in the minority when I say that I don't like split grips? I'd rather have the full length of cork.

I agree with you. People say they like how they look, but I do not find split grips all that aesthetically appealing.

Thanks! Ive been looking for another jig rod to add to my collection. Ive been looking at the BCR803, BCR804, MBR783C, MBR784C. Any suggestions on a good place to start?

I know I'm gonna get it here BUT....I'd go with the 4 power over the 3 and it would be IMX/GLX only, NO "BLENDS"....7ft I think would be my choice. Im actually looking at the Kistler LTA 7 footer as a Loomis option but will probably end up with a 4 power GLX.

This one caught my eye due to the description only, plus, I love POWER ;D

You may like it, but I have the BCR854 and would not want anything

stiffer. Don't just handle the rods, take a reel and tie on a 1/2 oz jig

to get the feel. You may still go with the 855, but compare the two

before you buy.

I wish I could RW, NOBODY around here stocks ANYTHING. Even Cabela's no longer carries GLX and they never did in their CT stores.

Your 854 is a GLX right? That's another option I haven't thought of for my own uses.

The normal size jigs i use are 3/8 and 1/2 oz. I do go above that but is it better to get 2 or is there an all around model that will take care of 3/8 up to 3/4 maybe 1 oz? Same problem here I'm unable to test all the rods out myself cause i live in a small town in cabelas never carries to many loomis rods. It seems to be shrinking more and more....My other jig rods are MH and which i do like the feel of it but maybe i would be more happy with a H action to move those fish out of the trees. The lake i fish most at is up like 15ft so there are alot of brush and down trees around the entire lake. Anyways thanks for all the info so far

Okay, northern shallow lake. That's pretty much what I fish in for largemouth where I am and that timber/weed structure is what we have too. Heavy pads and weeds too. I'm thinking a mh Loomis will not do it for me. I think a 4 power would though and that's where I'm leaning for having one rod mostly from the help of RW and others since I'm new to today's rod specifics.

From only my own limited experience:

I think 2 power to 3 power bass rods are close enough for me to overlap 2-4 powers than to have a 2, 3 and 4. This is the rationale I've kind of come to keeping 3 main rods. It would be a GLX like my Bronzeback spin rod only casting. Casting reels and rods have nads and that's what I need in those lakes.

I do wish I could try that 5 out though...just for fun.

While I can not compare the 2 rods in question. My G Loomis IMX arrived yesterday. It was on the porch when my wife got home. When questioned about my new purchase I told her the baitmonkey made me do it. I skipped dinner and went fishing. The rod is awesome. The best rod I have ever fished with.

I am one of the old timers, well I am only 43 but, been fishing with G.Loomis rods for as long as I can remember, early 80's, and I actually prefer the IMX over the GLX. However the last GLX I bought was back when they first came out and a slight whisper would snap the blank in half. I know they have fixed that issue since then, although I still don't think there as strong as IMX rods, but at them prices I have just stuck with IMX or GL3 rods and could not be happier.

With that said, there's probably no way on earth that I am going to be able to stay away from the New Loomis GLX frog rods. Well unless of course there as bad as the old model frog rod or if they put them goofy recoil guides on them. I prefer SIC when it comes to braid fishing and nothing goes better with braid then Mr. Froggy.
