They really overhauled the triumph for this series..

It's more or less a glorified lightning rod at this point.

One question St Croix.......................Why??? Ok...maybe a few more........ Is this replacing the Mojo? Is there really the need for two lines of split grip, bass market directed, split grip, imported rods in the $100 range?

Still I will not be buying a Triumph ever...and if I were to buy a St. Croix again, will not go below an Extreme or Elite.

They did it for sales purposes, the problem with the line is there are some many rods that are as good or better at the price point, they could have done something else to stand out. The other thing is the people who will look at that rod aren't spending time on fishing forums, they are someone who wants to get into bass fishing but doesn't know a lot so they can buy a good brand of rod in a lower line and see what performance feels like without paying too much.

There may be some who don't care for the split grips and that's understandable, but split grips are the norm these days. From a marketing standpoint, they produce what is in demand in the market. You can't blame them for doing that

I think they're trying to garner the attention of the younger crowd that may not be as knowledgeable about the origin, and history, of St Croix. It kind of rounds out their all-around lineup now. They have the Legend Elite and Xtreme, Avid and Avid X(treme), and the Triumph and Triumph X(treme). I doubt the Mojo Bass, Eyecon, Panfish, etc., are going to go anywhere, anytime soon; those are technique specific lineups.

I dont mind split grips...not like my hand spends anytime on the split...even when i cast with both hands

Yep its just to please those and make sales to those that don't have a clue, or like the split grip fad. the Premier is much nicer rod with better components, but the users this rod targets don't have a clue that those things matter. Just gett'n in on the sales that so many other foreign made rods are cashing in on. As long as they continue with their Legends and Avids,,,,,,their not forgett'n anyone! I am gett'n ready to build a new Light rod,,,,it will have a full cork handle and probably an Avid blank,,,,which I think are the best buy on the market, and very close to the SCV blanks, that I don't feel can be beat at any price,,,,kudos to St. St Croix for trying to please everyone, regardless of their wants.

In Demand? How about True availability? Most folks simply don't care for split grips. I got a couple of loomis I do like, but Straight cork, or even a full grip Hypalon? it is rare nowadays , The Rod Companys forced the split grip market on off the shelf purchases.... However, I do realize many like them. It's not a Demand Issue, as I see it, but a Cost Cutting style of Management... Less For More? Same with Guides too, that's the true market reality...

There is a point in you're statement that I appreciate, but I believe it's more about Net gains vs Net losses

My legend tournaments have a split grip, so does my 13 ***...and guess what? They caught fish all weekend! So did my full grip premier and my full grip loomis GL2 lol

The feel with reel in the seat, balance, weight and percieved action however are....

If St.Croix changes anything with this rod, they should start by changing the blank.

Nothing wrong with the SCII blank. Put good guides on it and it's better than most people think it is. If the Premier came with Alconites and a broader selection of lengths/actions I wouldn't have to buy Avids. I like the SCII blanks. Tough, light and pretty darn sensitive for their price.

Yes lighter and more sensitive than most think, plus very durable, I have a MH 6' Cat and Carp river rod that has caught many fish over 20 lbs. some in very swift currents, I beat the crap out of this rod and other than replacing the top guide, in 10 or 12 years it has never failed me.

I would think you would understand the fish ability of your premier then, with the much better components and American made blank, over the Triumph made for those that don't know the difference. I mean I suppose there are many who caught fish on a can pole all weekend, and maybe even a branch with line on it! believe me there is a difference though, there are more components than a grip that make that difference!!! I can catch as many fish on my BPS Extreme, but I prefer my Legends and Avids, trust me,,,,I know the difference,,,,,,,

Got the email from dicks today, it says they're available online only.

Not a fan of the new style, but they added splitgrip/foam as an option to try to get more buyers, who knows if it'll work

I got to handle these in dicks and they are fugly and tip heavy. I had a triumph as one of my first higher up rods and it was great. These have short rear handles, square butts which are uncomfortable and feel heavier than the original to me.

Like most companies they will have their hiccups but these are a big letdown IMO. Like others have said. Why have 3 groups of rods within 20 bucks of each other?

I saw/ checked them out @ DSG as well, idk... Seems like another step backwards, and that's saying something concerning St. Croix....
