Say ... WHUT ?!?

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

One can never have enough!

fishing user avatarMickD reply :

Depends on the boat to some degree.  When they are too thick and you start stepping on them, that's too many.  I usually have 5 or 6.  Above that gets a little hard to handle and doesn't add that much function.

37

fishing user avatarMosster47 reply :

I had like 36 and got it down to 24, which includes my two big swimbait rigs, rat rod, glide rod, and A-rig setup.

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

2-15/16     Rod tip broke off at first guide down from tip-top due to poor packing on shipper's part.  Tube in perfect condition.

fishing user avatarIndianaFinesse reply :

As others have said, there really isn't such thing as having to many rods, as long as you stay within your means.  I will warn you that once you start down the slippery path of rod collecting, it can get very expensive very fast.  Once you have owned your first high end rod, it's hard to go back.;)

Until my wife say so which she has already mention that awhile ago.?

fishing user avatarMickD reply :

You may be able to get some cover from a count of your wife's shoes and purses.  "Why do you need so many rods?"  "Why do you need so many shoes?"  "Because they are for different situations."  Bingo!

I'm up to 8 setups now and continuing to increase my arsenal

fishing user avatarj bab reply :

Once you run out of money that's too many. Until you come across some more money then get one more.

fishing user avatarDaveT63 reply :

I usually have between 14 and 16 in the boat.  By the end of the day, most have made their way onto the deck.  With that many, you really have to be careful where you are stepping, and they are constantly getting tangled.  I would love to wean myself down to about 8 on the deck at any one time, but just haven't been able to yet.

fishing user avatarkbeeb374 reply :

ya know a few years ago when i was just starting out i thought I'll never need more than these 3 setups. (MHF, MM, MLXF) then i thought well it would be nice to have a couple more... then i thought well it would be nice to have a couple more...then i thought well it would be nice to have a couple more...then i thought well it would be nice to have a couple more... now i have 20.. haha you can't have too many but you can have too few ;)

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

How many is too many? If one of them gets in the way of
your fishing. For me on a kayak, 2-4 is the very most that
I will fish. Mostly I take 2 setups out, 3 is a bonus, 4 is if
I'm desperate, LOL :)

fishing user avatarKidflex reply :

54. That number is too many. I made the mistake of falling in love with different series of rods and wanted them all. I'll carry up to 20 rods in the boat. One thing that's nice is that I have a very nice selection of rods/reels to fish with depending on my mood. If I want to fish zillions, cumaras, loomis, exprides etc I have them at my disposal. I will eventually downsize to 15 super high end combos and be done.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

Depends...............If I had 18 frog rods.............that would be too many.............for me.

fishing user avatarbigfruits reply :

when you have more combos than lures.

fishing user avatarPuggz reply :

All kidding aside, I'm a multi species fisherman so I got it bad.

Bass is the worst, followed by Muskie and Walleye.

So the count;

Bass - 10 (2 spinning/8 casting) should cover everything

Muskie - 9 (5 Casting/4 Trolling)

Walleye - 7 (2 Spinning/1 Casting/4 trolling)

Pike - just use rods from bass and muskie

Panfish - don't go there

You are just getting started, my friend.  :teeth:  A guy on TT downsized by selling off something like 130 combos (separated the rods and reels)....and none were cheap.  Actually I couldn't afford his cheaper rods and reels.  :(  Most of his reels cost more than my more expensive combos.

fishing user avatarChris at Tech reply :

One more than you currently have.
