So lets here the stories gentlemen! What was the biggest bass you have ever caught? What were the conditions like, baits used, water clarity, the works! I will start...
The largest bass I have ever caught was about 2 months ago and it is my profile picture. I got to the spot around 6:45AM (Still dark) and about 15 minutes later he bit. I was using a magnum trick worm, Texas rigged, and the tail dipped in JJ's. The outside temperature was probably 75-78 degrees and the water clarity was terrible. When he bit, I immediately knew it was a biggin and the fight was on. He came in at 10 lbs 4-5oz.
Whats your biggest bass?!
Pics welcomed
Biggest bass I have ever caught was last year. It was 20.5" and a little over 5 lbs. It was about 5:00am in July, VERY foggy and dead calm. I casted a 5" watermelon senko into a spot that was normally on the bank, but because of a recent rainstorm this spot was now in about 6" of water. As soon as the senko hit the water it was taken. The second I looked at it I knew it was my new PB.
mine was the one that got away......

Hell yeah man! Have that spot produced more good fish?? Watermelon is a great all around color.

Sorry! Well, maybe we can turn this into another thread..How can you tell the sex of a bass?
C'mon Tom, not having Fish Chris to humble us all away really fast we can have a few seconds under the sun. 13.86 lbs is my biggest. On 8/21/2014 at 11:08 AM, WRB said:Not another PB thread!

My PB is a little over 5 pounds and is the fish in my profile pic. I went to a small pond at a local park to fish for about an hour. I saw some commotion by the bank in about one foot of water. Water clarity was 3-4 feet and it was a sunny day and was early fall. As soon as I started reeling my Cotton Cordell crawdad color squarebill I thought I got snagged; then the snag started to fight. I got him in and new it was my PB by over a half pound.
I have hooked two since then that I knew were bigger than this but lost them both. I have not come even close to this fish since.
10lbs 2ozs. It was dusk after a hot, sunny day. Sun setting behind the Sierra Madre mountains. I was trying to cover water quickly before the guide told us it was time to go. As I burned my 8" Zoom Lizard back to the boat to make another cast I saw a huge dark fish closing fast. Disengaged the spool and my bait sank with the fish hot behind it. After a couple feet the line quit sinking. We were in nearly 30' of water so I knew the fish caught it. Reeled down and stuck her. Very short fight before she was in the net. I was disappointed with how skinny she was, the guide said she should have been 13-14 if she was so thin, even her back was sunk in.
Biggest smallie is a 3 way tie with 3 5 pound fish. Only have a picture of one of them in my bucket. Sunny, breezy day in October. Water was a little stained but not bad. Catching lots of smaller fish when I hooked what I thought was a drum on a Lucky Craft BDS zero in American Shad color. Then she jumped and I could see that tiny bait flopping around in her mouth. One tiny hook held for a very long, nerve wracking fight before she was finally in the net. There was the tail of a 8-9 inch crappie sticking out of her throat, don't know how she even got in all the way in her mouth.
Mine is 10lbs 11oz on a TNT baits wadda jig. She was caught in July and all spawned out. Easy 12-13+ lb fish if she was caught during spring. Caught another that went 8lbs that day, probably would have been a DD in the spring.
Mine was just shy of 5lbs, nothing special, didn't even get to take a picture haha

Nothing of that size, but its a pretty productive spot when its submerged.
27 double digit bass
12.8
12.66
12.4
11.5
11.3
And a log jam @ 10+!
I have yet to catch a double digit bass. It is very very difficult to do in Maine and Vermont. Biggest so far has been 9 lbs 1 oz. A 10lber would be close to a state record in all the northern New England states. The 9 lb 1 oz was a very very old fish at 16 years old.
OK......On 8/21/2014 at 11:32 AM, Raul said:C'mon Tom, not having Fish Chris to humble us all away really fast we can have a few seconds under the sun. 13.86 lbs is my biggest.
5 over 17 lbs
17.4 lbs, Lake Castias, '88
17.4 lbs, Lake Castiac' '91
17.6 lbs, Lake Castiac, '93
18.6 lbs, Lake Castias, '81
19.3 lbs, Lake Castaic, '94
All the above caught on custom hair jigs with pork rind trailers, between 1981 to 1994. Still trying to catch the 20 lb + FLMB.

Easy during the spawn, not easy after. If a LMB is over 5 lbs it's a very high percentage that it's a female. On 8/21/2014 at 11:31 AM, Gabriel052 said:Sorry! Well, maybe we can turn this into another thread..How can you tell the sex of a bass?

PS, if you identify where you are located or caught the PB bass and type of bass it helps everyone to put the catch in perspective.
WRB, my apologies. I need to update my profile. I caught the bass in a pond I North Georgia. It was a LMB
Once I started actually weighing fish, the "Trophy" threshold for me was always a 10 plus largemouth &
a 6 pound plus smallmouth.
I'd have been hard pressed to do here.
Thanks to this forum, and a couple of fairly decent dudes, I'm at an 11-11 largemouth & a 6-6 smallmouth.
Thank You Dwight & Jeff.

A "trophy" fish depends on many different aspects. Its definition changes from region to region and person to person.
I was only officially able to weigh the first "big" fish I caught, and it came in at 4-3/4 pounds.
I caught two back-to-back fish that went larger than them about a month later, but our scales were dead. Do y'all have any idea how large they are? I've been guessing that they're about 5.
All have come out of deepwater on a 1/2 ounce football jig with a chigger craw trailer and covered in A LOT of Crawfish scented Megastrike.
I have never owned a scale but the largest i caught measured 26" and was pre spawn so i am guessing it was in the 10lb range maybe....took me 3 days of fishing after work to get her to bite after i spotted her hanging around a bed, She was still fat and full of eggs so she was caught, tried to get a picture and she flopped out of the kayak and swam right back to where i caught her from while i stood there with my mouth open that i couldn't get a picture.....oh well it's all good

Have tou practiced with other scents?? JJ's magic?

I've used other scents, but Megastrike is the only one that makes a difference IMO. If Megastrike didn't exist I would be using the Powerbait scent or garlic. The biggest difference in my opinion between the two is the fact that either scent will make fish hold on longer, but Megastrike will make a fish hit harder and try to eat your lure once they strike. I've never used JJ's but I do use some chartreuse Spike-It on the tails of some of my plastics and notice a difference in the amount of strikes I get.
I might have caught a 2lber once

Wow that is a skinny looking bass, that for sure would have went 13-14 if it wasnt skinny.... That's a shame, still a pig though!

5lber is a big bass anywhere in New England

Over 8 pounds two times.

Not every time, I wish it was every time. 5 lber is a big bass where I fish in Maine or New England. Takes a lot of time on the water to figure out where the biggest fish in a lake hang out. Once you get that figured out you catch them a bit more often.

Lake Orange & Lochloosa in 87, 11.2 @ Loch.. Hoards of FLMB approaching very near 10... Never got over 10 again though.... Fish caught this time of year... On a pontoon fishing crappie on a 1" minnow.. Drinking my Fave, Bourbon & water... Does that count? Nailed fish on Gilraker worms, Native Golden Shiners, rattlebaits, mostly flippin and dead sticking ....south ind. sucks for big fish.... Get em occasionally pushing 8 but it's tough for big girls... Got to travel to catch those good fish...
My best largemouth went 10lb-2.5oz.
My best smallmouth went 7lb-6oz.
Biggest LM - 10lb-14oz
Biggest SM - 5lbs 0oz
Still looking for upgrades of both!
Jeff
I estimate my PB @ close to 9lbs, 24" and full of eggs when I caught her once in late march. She lives right down the street in my neighbor's pond and I have landed her 3 times in total, my little brother caught her one time too (c&r is a wonderful thing). As many hours as I spend at that pond each year targeting bass, seeing how few times that fish takes a bait is a real eye opener. And there is a 22" in there that I have only caught once, so I know first hand that big bass are REALLY SMART! (I know the 24" is the same fish because of a cut pectoral fin)

Yes I can I just moved recently to Southern California and when I find the Photo albums I will scan them in. This was the days before dorpbox and cell phones. We had to go buy a cheap disposable camera that day, never expected to have a day like we did. My Partner that day Doug Webster ended up catching 3 bronze beauties a 5.5 lbs a 6.3 lbs. and a 7.1 lbs on 5 drifts down a point. I was busy netting his fish and looked up and my float was gone ran to the front of the boat and it was on. that was the only one I caught. But I'm not complaining. 1/16 oz. hair and maylar jig 22' under a clip on egg shaped float 9 1/2' custom rod 8 lb Bagleys silver thread line

She was the one though. See you again in the fall on that ledge w my balsa boogie crankbait. Hot summer florida sun has all the big girls hiding deep lately rdy for some cooler temps! Even AM and fishing ALLLLLLL night through mosquito swarms producing very very low numbers and size lately.
