Hey all!
Just arrived in south florida after the long drive down from New York and I'm ready to catch some big bass! I'm going to use this thread to post updates, pictures and videos of my catches!
I wanna see some of those nice Florida LMB!!
Good luck out there. Watch the lightning more killed in Florida then any other state.
Funny. That's the first thing I thought of Geo. Went down to homestead today to put some new bunks and springs on the trailer for my salt boat and was planning on hitting the glades this afternoon/evening. I scratched that idea when I saw the storms forming over the Holiday Park area. Right about then the lightning alarms started going off at the park across the street. They haven't stopped for the last hour or so.
Be safe, Weld. Mornings and early afternoon should be fine. But this time of the year we get some pretty brutal late afternoon and early evening storms on an almost daily basis. They can ruin a good day really fast.
Hope you catch a few of south Florida giants! Just watch out for that there skunk ape.
Good luck bud. George and Eric have hit the nail on the head. Storms will be your challenge this time of year. Especially out in the glades. As I am typing this, its lightening and thundering outside. Be safe. If your out on the alley, make your way to one of the bridges and hunker down underneath the bridge. Tie off and wait it out.
Morning is usually good in terms of weather. Been raining down here almost every day the past few weeks from about 3pm-5pm though

Great job!! Cool video. I enjoyed hearing the excitement in you guys voices as you were catching and handling the fish. Congrats on the PB, it was a beautiful fish indeed. I am glad the weather cooperated a little. What part of town was that? Fishing has been slow lately, but apparently the fish made a special appearance for your arrival.

Thanks A-Jay! It was definitely a blast!!! And today i went out to go fishing during the day for Mayan cichlids and other panfish and landed around 12 decent sized bass on tiny sized spinners! It was awesome. What a surprise
Great job guys! Very entertaining videos. I would think about a little heavier line to use down here. That way you don't have to reach down in all that vegetation to land a fish. Being in Florida there are lots of things that can get you if you can't see through those weeds, even on a golf course. I never use less then 15lb test down here, and don't have any problem getting them out of all that junk. I have one rod with 50 lb braid but don't use it often unless I go prospecting.
That is great they let you fish that golf course. Some of the best fishing is on golf courses because of limited access. There may be a double digit in your future!
Hey All!
Got another report with lots of photos!!!
Crazy dark florida bluegill
Baby bass
Good sized bass caught on size zero spinners
Nighttime jitterbug
Night time spoon fishing

Thanks! Its been awesome and i've still got a little over a week of fishing!
I've got a new video coming soon with some awesome topwater blowups!
Stay tuned!!
Great pictures! Nice variety of baits, stuff I havent tried in a long time. Fishing is so much fun.
That's a hot golf course pond. My Hoa has decimated my 6 ponds, no vegetation and reclaimed water pumped in, very few fish now.
I've caught peas at the location.

Ye its my best spot. Holds a bunch of 4,5,6 lbers. Im sure it has some 7s,8s and maybe a double digit in there somewhere. That sucks when someone comes and destroys your fishing hole
Got a new video for you guys! First clip is a really cool topwater strike! Check it out

Hey all!
Today i finally think the ponds have taken a bit of beating, i only got 2 largemouth bass in 3 hours of fishing :/
It could be since its been really hot and humid the past couple days and we havent had rain in a couple of days.....
But anyways, ive got some photos for ya'll
3lb 3oz
I caught a mayan cichlid too, they are fun fighters
Some of those golf course ponds hold some good fish. I live spitting distance from Boynton and only 1 golf course I can think of kills the vegetation, it happens to be in Delray. Unfortunately most can't be fished by outsiders as they are private and in a gated community. I do know of a some that can be fished off the road, just gotta make sure you aren't there while golf is being played.
Mid-day, i saw a storm rolling in- a light storm, cloudy and light rain, no thunder or lightning. I saw this as an opportunity to go fishing in the middle of the day when usually mid-day fishing down here is impossible because of the heat and the sun. I go out and i get 3 nice fish all on a booyah chartreuse spinnerbait! I had a couple strikes on a black buzzbait in the middle of the rain storm but didnt get any hooked up.
Here's what i got: (pics are below)
16.5 inches, 1lb 15oz
18.25 in, 2lb 12oz
19 in, 3lb 3oz
Two days left of my expedition
Got a lot of photos. All of these fish were one evening.
Fat short bass! 16 inches and 3lbs
Spinnerbait fish
The Bigun' of the day
22 inches long, 5lbs 6oz
Baby bass, so cool
The smallest bass i've ever caught on a lure:
I saw him poking at the surface, he was eating insects or something and i just dropped my Zoom 1.5" mini tube right on him and he nailed it
Mayan cichlid with cool colors and spot
This largie looks almost like a spotted bass, almost
Live target topwater mouse !
Thanks for viewing
Additionally, i have two days left, and i wanna make them count. Im shooting for a 7lber, i got very close at 6lb 7oz. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Welds
Good luck! It looks like you have had fun during your SFL stay. If not this trip maybe next there could be a 10 lber in store for you!

Hey Welds...don't let SirSnook see the other video you made.

Hey!
This is my final report
I have had an awesome time fishing everyday across 17 different lakes by my house and on the golf course!
I've caught hundreds of largemouth bass, many bluegills and other panfish.
The 3 biggest largemouth that were caught:
I like your style Weld.
You set goals, you fish hard, and you achieve goals.
I get the biggest hoot however, out of your youthful enthusiasm,
which is precisely what our great sport needs.

Thanks Roger! And i'm very glad to have the support of the veterans

Yea they have like 30 grit sandpaper on their mouths
They cut it open all the time. When i lift a bass up out of the water and they shake like crazy and im still holding on to their mouth that whole time... ugh the pain...its well worth it

If there were snook there I'd buy one today.
Wow! What a thread!
I've lived here in Florida my whole life and I haven't had three weeks like that! Congrats! That's a life memory trip!
Now go back up north and leave our fish alone! You're too good!
Haha thanks. These fish definitely need a break .On 7/25/2014 at 8:41 PM, kikstand454 said:Wow! What a thread!

I have. It's all about being on the right body of water, I fished Boca West cc quite a few times, their ponds are exceptionally hot.
The ponds in my community used to be very good, the HOA sprays too much plus they are buying reclaimed water from the county. Once this program started the fishing really tailed off. I also have a canal behind my home, the fishing was super good. The county comes in and dredges, fish gone for about 2 years. On the opposite bank there is road access, netters coming in and taking everything, very few fish left. I used to enjoy bass fishing around here, I hardly do it anymore.
