So today I was throwing a swim jig/swim bait and saw something take my lure, then fight like crazy, i was really excited at first thinking I had caught monster bass, but as it started coming up I saw what it really was. So what all have you guys caught while targeting bass?
Here is there video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P74pn6D0sWs
Not as impressive as yours, but my brother caught a 1.5 lb crappie (a good sized fish around here) on a square bill. We didn't know it was a big fish so we just released it without any pictures or anything.
When I'm throwing a chatterbait I seem to get a catfish every so often.
I always end up catching a big drum. It's like a running joke now with my brothers and dad when we go out. Actually just caught one of my dock last weekend. It had to be at least 3lb.
I was throwing a swim bait this winter when I snagged a 20lbs grass carp. I was worried it would ruin my 10lbs fluro but it all worked out.
Nice catfish and video, now you got me wanting to catch one.
I was using a 1/2 RES for bass and caught my PB crappie with it last Oct 2nd.
Plus just last week my first crappie of the year I caught with a 1/2 Rapala Rippin rap tossing for bass
Bass are not the only predator in the lake that eats other small fish or crawdads.
'76 I caught a 37 lb musky at Lake of the Woods Ontario Canada fishing for smallmouth bass with a 1/8 oz black hair jig. My son caught a 26 lb channel catfish at lake Castiac when he was 10 on a 3" reaper using a split shot rig. I snagged a 30 lb class channel cat under the pectoral fin with a jig at Casitas that I thought was the world record bass. Caught lots of blue and channel cats on a variety of bass lures; crankbaits, spoons, plastic worms and jigs. Caught a 7 lb class rainbow trout on a purple worm, you never know what hits your bass lure sometimes.

Can anybody beat a 45lb flat head on 15lb trilene throwing a crankbait!
I have a buddy that catches what we call a redear sunfish EVERY time we go out. Some of them are darn nice sized too. I catch them occasionally. Never caught anything else though. . .
Not fishing for bass, in 1975 made my first strip to Key West, back then I didn't realize I should be using saltwater tackle, caught this cobia using a fresh water spinning outfit. Chefs from the local restaurants show up to buy the "catch of day" off the boats, this fish was sold by the pound.
Bluegill, yellow perch, crappie, pickerel. Those are the only 4 species I caught fishing for bass. I just need a carp.
I catch chain pickerel while bass fishing all the time. Seems like every time I hook into something there's a 50% chance its a pickerel. I also catch crappie on occasion.
I've recently been getting more and more perch in my local reservoir. In the past year I also boated crappie and a 10lb+ carp. 2nd ugliest thing I've ever had in the boat.
One late evening last summer, my friend caught a catfish with a popper.
I get catfish slow rolling spinnerbaits a lot at a local pond. Not what I'm after, but they put up a nice fight!
I think most folks have "collateral" catches while fishing for bass. As WRB said, there's lots of predator fish in the lake...and even bream get a bit territorial and hit a bass plug going by that's nearly as big as they are...
For me, while fishing for bass, and using typical bass baits, I have caught: bluegill, readear, bowfin/mudfish, chain pickerel, channel cat, grass carp, crappie, rainbows, warmouth, white bass, and yellow perch. Notable was the 33" channel cat that I caught on a light-power spinning rod w/6lb test while tossing a 1/4oz roostertail for dink bass.

...here's a 48lb grass carp that was foul hooked in the tail with a lipless crank on 10lb test.
Earlier this month I caught a 15lb Striper on a 1/2 oz Rat'L'Trap on 12lb Berkley Big Game line. Great fight at the beginning but they wear out after a short time. None the less exciting though. I thought I had a monster bass!
Out in the Everglades we catch bowfin in the 24" to 28" range all the time. Did have a 'gator in the 7' range take a Zoom Swim Fluke once. He was just floating so I was able to reel him in slowly but then decided that it would be better to cut the line with him still in the water and about 30' away rahter than try to bring him any closer...
Three times i got fooled when i thought i had a new state record LMB while on my line still unseen. At three different places i landed 30" monster pickerel. On a bps topnocker. On night i landed a 5 gallon bucket lid sized crappie too on a crawfish crank.
I catch a bunch of these guys. Pickrel are fun fish to catch. THEY LOVE A FIRE TIGER CRANK.
Striper and crappie on finesse worms are hard to beat on the delta
Lots of pike up in MN.Probably get 2-8 of them a day depending on the lake. Also get a few walleye every year and a muskie once in awhile.
Catfish, mud fish, gar, pickerel, speck, blue gill, warmouth. We almost all ways catch something other than bass. Catfish on crankbaits, mud fish and warmouth flipping, everything else will hit a rattle trap or frog.
Musky, pike, walleye, perch, rock bass, bluegill, crappie, gar, bowfin, drum, pickerel, catfish, white bass, striper, skip jack herring, shad, carp, whitefish, lake trout, eel, snapping turtle, and a mallard duck. There are few things that swim that I haven't caught while bass fishing.
Didn't have a working scale because the chain on it broke when I tried to lift this one to weigh it. 1/2oz homemade jig and 14lb Vicious Elite next to a dock. I've caught plenty of them this size fishing for flatheads that I have no problem calling it 40lbs and probably heavier.
We catch a lot of hybrids fishing for bass during the fall and winter also.
Pike, my home lake is stocked with them.
I have got a handful of nice Muskies, some big crappie, little pike, freshwater drum, dogfish, a couple of Bluegill and two that surprised me a little.
One morning I was fishing for smallies with a little Yamamoto shad shape worm and within my first 5 casts something just crushed it. After a few seconds I knew it wasn't a bass. It ended up being a 19 lb Flathead catfish. It was fun to catch on light spinning tackle. We went on to catch several dozen smallies that day too.
On another outing I flipped a jig into a brush pile, felt a tap, set the hook and it felt like I stuck a tree limb. After a couple of seconds the "tree limb" started to swim away from the brushpile. A couple of minutes later I landed a 17 lb Channel catfish.
Using finesse worms on a dropshot, ive had trout & perch take it, and also had a trout take a wacky rig senko
Yesterday while taking a friend and his two kids to American Lake in Lakewood Wa. we were dropshotting for Smallies and caught 2 Smallies...one was 3 pounds...a Yellow Perch, a Red Eye Rock Bass and 5 Rainbow Trout and 4 of the Trout dressed out a 7-1/2 pounds!! all other fish were released. Great day to see some kids get their outdoors on!!
I have caught lots of pickerel a few catfish bowfin and carp. The craziest thing I ever caught though was when I was throwing a weightless Texas rigged yum dinger and as I crawled it over a grass mat a 16" crappie nailed it on top....first time I have had that happen.
Crappie, catfish, black drum, sunfish, gar and snagged a carp all while fishing for bass w/ lures.
Not as impressive as most of what I've seen, but I did catch a 4lb-ish flathead on a 1/4oz home-made jig
I've caught a lot of different species while fishing for bass, and they're pretty similar to what everybody's been posting. I've caught: bluegills, crappies, freshwater drum, muskies, rock bass, warmouths, green sunfish, channel cats, flatheads, hybrid stripers, and probably some others that I'm forgetting about.
The only thing I have ever caught on a spinner bait. It is hard to tell because this was from a camera phone circa 2003ish, but that is hooked through the mouth. Not a snag. I have snagged quite a few others with cranks, jerkbaits, and lipless cranks.

catfish, bluegill, sunfish, warmouth, carp, and muskie. No gar or walleye yet.
I have to say I enjoyed the fight and the battle from all three 30" chain pickerel
While bass fishing. But it was a 6lb.1oz. Large mouth that gave my lure a tour of
Small dammed up river that was used once for water power well over 150 years ago. She just never tired out. I find these small dammed up old places that hold the biggest bass here.
14lb Red Label and a 7/16oz home made jig in black/gold glitter fooled this guy this morning, 25 1/4 pounds.
15+ blue cat on a spinnerbait, slow rolling. Thought I had a new PB largemouth at first.
How about a 19 inch Brown Trout while fishing for small mouth! Two weeks ago on the Niangua River by Bennet Springs MO I was throwing a six inch chartreuse finesse worm for small mouth and he hit it. That was the weirdest catch to date.
I was ripping cranks through weeds and snagged into a 25 pound carp earlier this week. I had to put my trolling motor in reverse to keep from being pulled to the middle of the lake, haha. Ive caught some really nice pike and walleye while bass fishing in MN.
Ive caught catfish,bream,gou,gar,choupique and redfish
I have caught lake trout, brown trout, steelhead, channel cats, rock bass, white bass, largemouth, walleye, pike & perch while fishing for smallmouth with jerk baits.
While fishing for largemouth I have caught bowfin, pickerel, gar & an alligator.
I had a 9" bluegill hit a little square bill crank this past weekend. Also had an 18" northern pike hit one of my deep cranks. Everything else was all largemouth.

yeah this pike on a kvd 1.5 crank lol so random
Not too random. I think that 1.5 and 2.5 are candy to those nasty things. A few weeks ago, i caught 15 northern in less than half an hour on that crankbait. I was holding out for that big bass, but the northern just kept biting and getting bigger...

Same, mine was 17.5 inches
on chautauqa this spring my buddy hooked a 40+" muskey on an xrap fishing flats for smallies
My buddy Chris, kanasbassfisher08 on the forum, caught 2 muskie about 30 minutes apart on a buzzbait fishing for bass on a small lake in northeast Missouri last year. First one hit right next to the boat and threw water all over us, scared both of us.
Second one rushed the bait from behind and all we saw was the top of it's head and teeth when it hit his bait.
His buzzbait was brand new when it started, all it managed to catch was 2 muskie before it looked like this.
