Gotta love an all summer topwater bite haha.
The Whopper Plopper is probably THE most hit or miss bait in my bag. If I get one strike on it that day I know I'll get at least a dozen more. But more often than not over the past year it draws blanks.

This is the first full year ive had successs. Literally have not stopped throwing it on this section of river since may. All day bites its nuts. Years past ive had some good river fishing days in Michigan on it. But not this consistent.

I've never had much luck with Whopper Ploppers. I have much better luck with walking baits, for whatever reason.
gotta love the topwater bite
I got the WP about a month back because of multiple recommendations and I have not seen one of this amazing blow-ups everyone talks about, just 2 fish (Brim and 8" tiny bass). I mostly throw it early morning/late evening since the daytime temps are high 90s.
I will give the WP credit on the hooks, they are so sharp that I catch every leaf or piece of pinestraw in the lake HAHA.
Yeah now that fall is here I feel like I'm raking leaves instead of fishing when I throw it.
I've not had the best luck with plopper style baits on lakes but it seems like they are absolute money on shallow rivers.

Got plenty of those around and have never thought about using it. I’m just scared to lose it since there is always a metric ton of debris to snag on.

Debris in the river? Huh. That's not a problem with my local waters really. It's a shallow river with predominantly rock bottom, usually 2-5 feet deep. The only concerns I have are errant casts toward the bank. Usually getting under overhanging trees and throwing a little high. But I just paddle over and give it a whack with my paddle and I'm all good.
Nice fish! Blowups like that will definitely put your heart in your throat.

Debris meaning limbs/logs and random tree branches not garbage. I don't have a means to fish other than Bank fishing, so if it gets stuck out there its gone unless I go swimming.

Ah. I hear you. Had the same issues the past few years.
If you've got shallow rivers around your place and it's within your means look into a kayak man. You'll fall in love with it.

Oh trust me, just waiting on Christmas!!!
That's probably what my first and only WP blow up looked like about a month ago... I was looking the other way when I heard the explosion and my rod was almost ripped out of my hands. Good times. Nice Hawg
Try some pike on whopper ploppers
blowups are 10 times better
I try them all the time and nothing ever blows up..........

In between the weeds if there is space i get hit but its annoying with the trebles. By logs is a great place to use them

Im starting to think its just not the best lure for where i live. The river near my house is all logs

Ive got the logs part figured out, i catch them around timber all the time. I still need work on the WP part, one bite in about 6 months so far
I have not had blockbuster results with it. It catches, just not like I hear about on here all the time.
