Here's a pretty one.... 2024

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

Only 13.5 lbs, but very healthy, and clean.

107694fe0.jpg

{to be nit-picky, this shot is just a hair over exposed. With a BIG fish, I'd have taken another or set or two, to get it dialed to spot on}

I haven't been fishing near as much as is normal for me, because of our crazy storming weather, plus still need to get the carburator replaced in my boat.

Big news for me is, I just ordered an Olympus E510 DSLR camera, and two nice lenses :-) This won't be for fish photos (I still believe my point-and-shoots are better for that), but rather, for general photography. It will likely go on my boat on most fishing trips though, since I prefer nature photography anyway :-)

Peace,

Fish

fishing user avatarslomoe reply :

That does look like a very healthy fish. Nice fishin' Chris.

P.S. that pic looks pretty clear to me!

I always enjoy your posts, and I look forward to some of your nature photography with your new camera...

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

At first I thought you were talking about a largemouth, and when you said "only 13.5 lbs" I thought you were crazy, lol.

still a nice fish!  :)

fishing user avatarFishin-Psyantist reply :

Couldnt help but notice the grin on that face from ear to ear. ;D

Id probably do the same. Congratulations! Nice fish.

Nice Fish and the pic looks good to me.

fishing user avatarF15HGuy reply :

That is a beautiful fish man, nice job!

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

Sissy fish, sissy pic, what happened to your standards?  ;D

What do you mean by "clean"?  Here, when we use the term, we are referring to sea lice.  Aren't yours landlocked or are they brackish?

Thanks for sharing :)

fishing user avatarpaul. reply :

great job buddy!  i "only" caught 4 bass today and they didn't weigh 13.5 put together.  lookin' forward to more. :)

fishing user avataredbassmaster reply :

Beautiful fish sir!! Just curious...do you ever eat Striper? I never have, I was just curious if its an eating fish. Thanks

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

Striper is THE eating fish :)

I only eat 3 or 4 different kinds of fish, striper is one of them.  Excellent table fare. (light, thick, flakey filet's)

fishing user avatarcpr1 reply :

Great looking striper! Thanks for sharing.

Cheers!

fishing user avatarInfidel. reply :

Yup....what he said.

Chris, awesome pic dude. Hoping to get down to the beach this year for some schoolies.  :)

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

I really don't eat Stripers. I'm very picky when it comes to the fish I eat. Well, come to think about it, I just had the best Tuna fish sandwich for dinner :-) with Peprincini's and Vermont cheddar, on an onion roll !

Then I like Salmon from Costco.

Long John Silvers.

Fresh Mahi Mahi.

Fresh grilled Yellowfin (Ahi)

Oh..... and I love Halibut ! Especially the little California variety :-) Deep fried in a light batter.... Or grilled....

But I do love to C/R the Stripers :-)

Peace,

Fish

Oh, yes, our Stripers are brackish water...... connected to the ocean.

I've heard that, but around here I have only seen c&r. I would love to try it. If its anything like tilapia Im sure I would love it.

Wow, we have very similar tastes.  I only eat Striper, Flounder, Mahi Mahi, yellowfin and sometimes trout or salmon. (and of course, canned Tuna, lol)

So, when you say "clean", are you also referring to the sea lice?  We only eat them if they are "not clean", meaning that they still have lice which means they just came in from the ocean (sea lice don't hang around in the brackish water)  If we catch a keeper that is "Lice free", it goes to market instead of home.  We have had metal issues in our upper bay from the jewelery business yrs back and striper retains a lot of metal, I'd just rather eat a freshie.

I will be at Redlines on the 8th of Feb but he won't be there till the 10th,...wanna hook up on the 9th? :)

fishing user avatarsecretlakes reply :

i9 wish we had a few lakes with those bad boys in them. here on the shore of south jersey we wait for them to "run". so we know there there and they are everywhere.

fishing user avatarsecretlakes reply :

u dont eat stripper? i love when my buddy goes on an outing for them because he doesnt like to eat ny fish and u cant buy striper in NJ. its like a forbidden dish unless u catch one yourself. check out the one he caught in the "other species" section.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

secretlakes- Can't buy striper in Jersey??  You sure??

Read it again...he said "stripper"....

Mmmmm, I love me some fresh NJ stripper......

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

I KNOW you can buy stripper, shoebox full of ones will get that done but I'm 95% sure you can also buy striper.   I knew a guy, few yrs back, that held a commercial license and we discussed prices, etc.  We were getting about $1/lb more than the Jersey guys at the time.  My point is that if they have commercial licenses for selling striper,.....SOMEONE is buying it.

Plus, do an online search and you will see that it is offered in Jersey restaurants.

:)

fishing user avatarguest reply :

NIce fish Chris,

Say man,  you don't know what your missing by not eating those stripers.

they are great eating.

cut them into steaks then roast them in the coals of the bar b que. You get out some aluminum foil, then baste your steaks with some honey mustard salad dressing. then

slice up a lemon and lay the slices on the steaks. Now add some sun dried tomato and fresh cut onions. bake to perfection.

Oh Ma God !!!  UMMMMMMMMM Gaaaaaaaooooooo-ud

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

To me, the flavor of striped bass is very similar to gray weakfish.

I've eaten so much striper flesh, I'm surprised I don't have chestnut-colored stripes running down my flanks :D

(BTW, I used to sell striped bass to restaurants in New Jersey)

Very nice photograph Chris!
