Looks like a pretty good start to me. Congrats.

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Way too go! Good fish and great scale!

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Oh.. Nice shoes!.....lol!!

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

Fantastic! Where'd you catch her?

I pulled in a 22 1/4" 6.6 pounder in my avatar last fall at Lee Hall Reservoir (NNPK). One of many 6+ fish I've caught there.

My PB was at Harwood's Mill a couple years back.

fishing user avatareverythingthatswims reply :

Pretty work! My first citation this year was a recapture of the big girl in my avatar, 24" long, and even though I spend many days fishing that pond each year (only 3 acres), I very rarely catch her. Only once last year

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Great Bass ~

Congrats !

fishing user avatarBrian Needham reply :

Some states have a citation reward for fish caught exceeding certain set standards. Any fish over the weight or length minimum can be submitted for recognition by the state. Like infishermans master angler awards. Any fish exceeding the standard are referred to as citation fish whether you submit them or not.

Are Viginians considered yanks now?

Lord I hope not! but things are changing everyday.

Pardon me...... yank was a strong word to use.

it does seem more northern type folks use the word citation to describe a fish.... I am not meaning to lump in Ole Virginia.

why the use/meaning of citation in reference to a bass?

fishing user avatarshimmy reply :

Virginia citation is a 22 inch bass or 8 pounder.

Great fish by the way!!!!

do you get a citation from the governor? a phone call? plaque?

why is it called a citation?

I really want to know........22 inches or 8# is a heck of a fish.

fishing user avatarKevin22 reply :

22" 8lb fish? Wowser!

My last 22.5 weighed 4.25.

Was it still alive?  That one had to be awful skinny!

You get a piece of paper (from the department of game and inland fisheries) I think, at least that's what I got for my north carolina citation cobia (have to be 40lbs, weighed 51lbs) and sea mullet (have to be 1.5lbs, weighed 2lbs). I don't get them in Virginia because it's 5 bucks to get that silly little piece of paper and I can buy a bag of plastics with that money

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

If your fish is long and skinny, measuring 22" or beyond, it's a citation.

If your fish is 18" and 8 lbs, it's also a citation. Dang fat lady there!

fishing user avatartcbass reply :

Weird. The word citation in most states is a ticket. Like a speeding ticket is called a citation. lol.

fishing user avatarBrick reply :

Yep.  Basically a citation fish is a fish that is a certain length and/or weight for any give species.  Here is a list of what is considered a citation fish in good ole VA.  And calling someone a yank in the wrong part of Virginia might get you shot.  lol.  Just kidding.  Or am I?

Largemouth Bass 8 lbs. 22" Smallmouth Bass 5 lbs. 20" Crappie 2 lbs. 15" Rock Bass 1 lb. 12" Sunfish 1 lb. 11" White Bass 2 lbs. 8 oz. 18" Striped Bass 20 lbs. 37" Hybrid Striped Bass** 8 lbs. 24" White Perch 1 lb, 4 oz. 13" Channel Catfish 12 lbs. 30" Blue Catfish 30 lbs. 38" Flathead Catfish 25 lbs. 40" Rainbow Trout 4 lbs. 22" Brook Trout 2 lbs. 16" Brown Trout 5 lbs. 25" Chain Pickerel 4 lbs. 24" Muskellunge 15 lbs. 40" Northern Pike 6 lbs. 30" Walleye 5 lbs. 25" Sauger* 2 lbs. 18" Yellow Perch 1 lb. 4 oz. 12" Gar 10 lbs. 40" Bowfin 10 lbs. 30" Carp 20 lbs. 34" Freshwater Drum 6 lbs. 24"
fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

NIce bass congrats!!

fishing user avatarbaluga reply :

Nice citation ! :angel500:

We try to avoid citation here in California coz Citation only means a ticket of fine from DFG for  fishing with expired license or fishing in protected area and other violation . :wink2:
