fishing user avatarcrayon7 reply :

Hello guys and girls. Im new to this site and to bass fishing. I never really had any luck in the [ast with it so I ended up sticking with mud slug fishing. I recently got a new lure from a friend of mine who made it for poops and giggles and asked if i would take it out. Long story short I now bass fish due to this little guy I nabbed on about the third cast....

Welcome to the forums!!

fishing user avatarTroutfisher reply :

Awesome job on nailing your porker!  Catch to keep or release?

fishing user avatarcrayon7 reply :

If its a giant like that I keep it but if theyre only minors I will put them back to become something great and grand. But I just started bass fishing recently I moved up from mud slugs and find it a bit nicer. I hope to catch some more great ones soon before it gets real cold. Since I live in san antonio our winters are kind of off and on.

fishing user avatarJustin P. reply :

What is a mud slug??? :-?

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

Crayon7 , this is just my opinion but I just don't believe in keeping the big bass.

I believe their genetic strain should be continued by releasing them and let them continue spawning.

A bass smart enough to live long enough to get huge has to be able to make the species better.

Like I said earlier " this is just my opinion".

fishing user avatarBucketmouthAngler13 reply :

Welcome to the forums and awsome bass!

Acording to the seccond picture it is around 21", thats around 5lbs in my book. What a lunker, and one of your firsts too! Congrats, i bet you got bit by the bass bug big time! ;)

fishing user avatarCigarlover 1 reply :

Welcome!

Nice fish.

fishing user avatarcrayon7 reply :

21.5 to be exact, i got out my tape measure. Yes I did get bit By the bass bug in fact I just got home from work but im heading out in the morning to see what else I cant get myself into. I respect your opinion on throwing the big ones back, But a first timer will always keep his first monster no matter what it is. Mudslugs are what I call catfish. Not as fun as bass now. I think ill try and get my bass game up for now.

fishing user avatarcrayon7 reply :

Yesterday mornings trip yielded a nice bass but I foul hooked it so it didnt count. Maybe after this wind dies down a little around here Ill try again and hopefully get some keepers

fishing user avatarFisherman reply :

That pig would of hooked anyone to BASS fishing..  ;)

Welcome...

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

Welcome aboard.

I believe that fish may go a bit over 5. It's got girth.

as for keeping bass, especially the bigger ones, if it's not somthing you plan on mounting, PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASE do not remove breeder size fish. These fish are the heart and soul of a lake spreading good, healthy DNA.

In the north, a 5 lbr could be a trophy to some,.... but in Texas, It's kind of a shame to kill a bass that size.  She's an optimum breeder.  Was an optimum breeder.

Smaller fish are tastier anyway.

Catch, Photograph, release. It's for the benefit of your lake and future angling experiences.

Well, you got one for the wall I guess, many more to come now that you are hooked.

fishing user avatarVyron reply :

Its kind of difficult for someone new 2 bass fishing 2 understand the need of catch and release.

There is nothing better than releasing a lunker fish, I always say c u again when u get bigger  ;D

welcome 2 the best forum

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I think that most of us kept most of the bass we caught when we first started.

It's fun to "show off"what you caught, maybe eat a few, then give some away, to show what a nice guy you are and hear people compliment you on your skill.

It's all the process of maturing as an angler.

I suspect our new friend will get educated here at BassResource.com and become a more sophisticated sportsman.  Let's remember this was his first bass.

Good luck and have fun.

fishing user avatarcrayon7 reply :

I love fishing and I love bass and catfish and everything. Ive had bass as pets for a while and they are fun to watch and learn from.  Here is my lake tank during feeding time.

Enjoy!!

fishing user avatarBass Smacker reply :

Nice pig you have there. looks like 6lbs+ to me

Keeping them or release them it a matter of choice. I always release them becuse I don't like fish that much. I also beleve that relesing them makes the sport better for all. But if you like fish and don't mind cleaning them by all means do it. Just don't waist them by keeping them showing them off then letting it rot.

Once agene nice fish. Now go out and tri and and get a biger one

;)
