Son Catches 2 Fish At The Sametime On Crankbait 2025

fishing user avatarBass2124 reply :

My 12 year old son caught 2 smallies on a kvd 1.5  crankbait on Saturday.  I even got it on video and got some pics.  Just wanted to know how many people have done this?  I've fished my entire life and have never done it.  I equate it to a hole in 1 in golf.  Was going to have it put in the local paper if it is not that common.  Checked it on the web and don't see much mention of it.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

I've seen videos and pictures of it happening to people... Hasn't happen to me yet sadly :(

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

It happens occasionally with schooling fish and when there is a VERY aggressive

bite. White bass and smallmouth seem to be the species that commonly fight after

the "other guy's" catch. You can find a lot of doubles on the internet from guys fishing

the Alabama Rig, but I have never caught multiple fish on the rig nor have I caught

one on the outside arms. All of my fish have hooked with the center lure.

Wow that's interesting that all your fish are in the center, I'm assuming you use the A-Rig a good bit every year right?

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Maybe that's why I never win at anything else, I use all my luck up catching doubles. I've done it at least a dozen times, as recently as last week. Oddly enough, never doubled on an A rig though. Never caught a very big double, but it's still always cool when it happens.

Well there goes my theory on the equivalency of a hole in one, unless you are a really good golfer.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

I have had a pickerel chomp on a sunny i caught once and not let go till i got it in the kayak, not sure if that counts though :)  I have also been fishing flukes in the river and had two bass come out and slam it but only hooked one.

fishing user avatardesmobob reply :

I've doubled on Rock Bass before (kind of embarrassed to mention it).  They hit the fore and aft hooks of a gold floating J-7 Rapala.

Tight lines,

Bob

Well, Blue does fish a lot, and is a much better fisherman than your average joe, so his odds are better than most.

Personally, I've never caught a double. That would mean I would have to stop throwing my jig!

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

i've never done it and i bet the excitement you and your son shared will be enough to last a lifetime!

fishing user avatarDavid P reply :

With the Alabama Rig getting so much attention, it's become more common certainly. It's still a great accomplishment though, and I have only done it a few times on a rip bait and spook.

If you're son was excited and it got him wanting to fish even more, that's all that matters. Congrats!

fishing user avatareverythingthatswims reply :

My friend caught 2 at once on a senko...we still can't understand how it happened, I'll ask him for a photo and post it if he still has it.

fishing user avatarScott F reply :

This past spring the prespawn fish were schooled up and I did it 3 times in the same day! None of the fish were huge, but here is one of the pairs.

fishing user avatarFrankW reply :

I got two schoolies on a KVD 1.5 this summer on Rodman Reservoir.  Fish were 2.5 pounds each.

fishing user avatarreb67 reply :

Hell the way my season has went I'm lucky to get two fish in an outing let alone two on one cast.

The closes I've came was a fish on back to back cast.

fishing user avatarlong island basser reply :

I had this happen only one time in over 30 years of bass fishing.

Caught two LMB on a mann's baby one-crank. They were about 1.5 lbs each.

fishing user avatarxxmurrxx reply :

I have caught double silver bass when they are schooling up heavy never large or smallmouth though.

I'm sure your son was pretty excited.

fishing user avatarRSM789 reply :

Both times I did it was on topwaters. The first time was one a jointed Jitterbug, the second time on a Spook. With the Jitterbug, I tried to lift both fish out of the water by grabbing the metal lip of the lure. As I hoisted them, the bottom fish went nuts & torqued the bottom of the lure, snapping it off at the joint. So I ended up with 1/2 a lure & 1 fish.

I saved the 1/2 Jitterbug and on future trips, tied a short leader with a small jig off the back of it & caught a few fish on it. The tend to hit the jig more than the wounded jitterbug.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

Can't recall ever doing so. I think I'd remember if I did, LOL. For bass, that is.

I've used rigs that I've caught multiple sunnies on...

fishing user avatarBassun reply :

I can only remember doing it once, and that was a long time ago on a jerkbait, and my brother in law (who fished very seldom at the time) did catch two dinks on an x-rap a couple years back.  I've had a bunch of scenarios where two or more bass have hit at a fluke at the same time, or a trailing fish pick up a bait that just popped free from a different fish.

Just the other day I had a stinking bluegill go crazy and take a grub basically out of the mouth of a decent bass.

fishing user avatarhatrix reply :

I have caught doubles a bunch of times on the double fluke rig but that.s about it. A couple years ago though I was fishing a KVD 2.5 I think oddly enough. But I had a bluegill swipe at it or maybe I ran into it. but anyways it got foul hooked on the side and then a bass instantly came out and tried grabbing the bluegill. I watched it all happen after I hooked the bluegill. The water was pretty clear and it was only a couple feet below the surface. You could see the flash from when I hooked the bluegill then the flash from the bass darting out after it. I caught them both on the same treble hook also.

fishing user avatarwarpath58 reply :

I had it happen a few times, mostly on top water. I remember one tournament we were fishing on Sardis reservoir in MS back in the 80s, they had a slot limit then 14-16''. My partner had a huge strike on a spook, not much of a fight but he said it was really heavy. I net the fish and when I pull it up there are 4 fish in the net, 2 on the bait and 2 following. That was the fist cast of the day and we thought we were going to kick butt, well all the fish were in the slot and had to be released. And that was the only thing we caught the rest of the day.

fishing user avatarpaangler13 reply :

I have never done it with bass, but have seen my Dad do it three times. All smaller schoolies, biggest ones were about 1.5 pound.  All of them were on lipless cranks!

fishing user avatarDriftb reply :

I had a nice smallie on maybe a 3-4 pounder. Another, slightly smalller one was trying to get the lure away from him, and  grabbed it. The two fish fought like the  devil, taking line and gettting further and further from the boat.  Eventually they started coming in, and I saw that the bigger fish ahd come off.  Another, smaller on came out of nowhere as I was about to swing the fish in the boat, grabbbed the lure, and they took off again, and it took me a while to get them back to the boat.  I was about to net them both and the bigger fish came off, leaving me with a maybe two pounder. So I almost had two doubles on the same cast!

Considering you almost caught 3 fish on one retrieve, I think you were doing something right, lol.

fishing user avatarDriftb reply :

When they are on Jerkbaits sometimes you cant miss.  Of all lures I use, I think that a walking type bait catches the most doubles.  Maybe it's the  rattles making all those vibrations when the bass shakes.  I think the spittin image gets the most doubles.
