Man what a trip!
All week I was excited to go fishing with my buddy Justin. So Saturday I left the house a little after 2:30 AM and headed for Justin's house. After meeting up with him we continued our journey. We launched at first light in Justin's recently acquired boat, that I had outiftted with my livewell, motors, batteries, net, vests, anchor...and everything else. When we finally finished launching the boat, which was a chore, we fired up the "big motor" (9.5 furious horsepower ) and headed for the first spot of the day. We were both throwing the same type of swimbait.
Our first spot was an island. Second cast of the day I hookup and end up losing a nice fish, but it wasn't giant, probably 5 or 6 pounds. After five minutes I had a lost fish and 2 more missed bites on that spot. So we quickly burned some bank to our next spot. I fished through it in one direction without a bite and then turned around. On the way back around, justin calls out "FISH!" and I turn around just in time to see her come up and shake. After a pretty sporty fight, even on a swimbait rod, I finally dip up his 6-8 which is his second largest fish of all time. We were pretty stoked and the big bait bite was pretty well on. We fished back through to the first spot of the day and justin again hooks up, she crushed his bait and headed straight for the boat, when he finally caught up with her, his rod loaded up BIG time and she popped off. That was a good fish.
By this time it is probably 9 ish and the sun was beating down. We fished big bites for alot longer and picked up a couple weak bites, none of which stuck. We motored around and tried new spots, then went back to some familiar water and fished normal baits. Missed a few bites and I got a 4-12 on a jig. Justin caught a couple pound and a halfers. The mid day bite officially SUCKED!
We met up with a buddy of mine in his canoe and sat in the middle of the lake shootin the breeze and havin some food. The BS'n session lasted about an hour and a half before I decided we should probably get back after some fish.
As the sun slid lower I decided to target any available shade we could find. We fished really fast down non descript banks just chuckin and winding. After a few hundred yards, I got crushed and hooked her solid. She came up and and I managed to keep her from headshaking. She then decided that the bottom was the answer and bulldogged to the bottom for the rest of the fight. We got her in the net almost without incident. Got her on the scale and she went 9 lbs 5 ozs! STOKED! Into the livewell with justin's 6-8 and my 4-12.
By this time, the sun was low enough that we had shade on our island so we motored over. I left justin plenty of water and let him know that I left a good spot for him (DANG IT!) He gets smashed and hooks her up. She was able to shake but with a giant hook buried in the roof of her mouth, all attempts at escape were unsuccessful, and I got her in the net. I think she might just be a double digit (his PB is 8-5) I hung her on the scale and she went 9-8!!!! Not his first double d, but a PB none the less!!! We fished a little while longer but were forced off the lake. We motored over to some other guys and asked them to take a photo with us and all of our fish before we let them go.
When I opened up my makeshift livewell, which is even with the gunwales on Justin's boat, I reached in for one of the 9's and she jumped out of the livewell, slid over the gunwale and into the lake!!! > > >. I prayed that it was my fish that went over and not Justin's because it was his PB. It was mine. :-/ I had taken one picture when I caught her, before I put her in the box.
And this is our group Photo, I think you can tell where my nine should have been!
30lbs1oz for FOUR fish!!!!!
It was a great day and one helluva a way to break in a new boat!
This is why I fish right here!!!!!
P.S. Sorry guys, no background this time around. You know how it is.
Good day of fishing and great pics to back it up. Man, you Cali guys really get on some quality fish!!
Hey, I'll buy another boat if you can help me break it in like that!!!
Good job, and nice fish
One guy (not calling anyone out here... LOL) on the board fishes ice bergs and 4bizz fishes in huge thunderclouds !!! Looked like you guys had fun!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Dang 4bizz. That's an awesome day. You know your a good friend when the first thought that comes to your head when a 9lber slides out of the well was I hope thats mine. Keep on keepin on.
That's awesome guys! Keep it up!
You Cali guys are on fire.
thats the deallllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
HOLY MOLY but that's some CATCHIN'!!! WTG FB! Y'all had a huge sack for sure 8-).
Dan
sucks about your fish man, but that's really nice of you to have wanted it to be yours instead of your buddy's. What's with the covered up background?
Speechless!
Quotesucks about your fish man, but that's really nice of you to have wanted it to be yours instead of your buddy's. What's with the covered up background?
Its pressure bro, anytime you leave a background uncovered in this neck of the woods people come out of the wood work and start fishing your spots! Its crazy, I was with a friend last year and he had 15 boats so up on a backwater spot where no one fishes overnight... and he had pulled his backgrounds! One guy actually admitted that he knew my friend fished three lakes so he just took the best guess and went for it! You guys are blessed that you can truly show your pics without people climbing all over you!
Nice work
fourbizzle, you Cali guys make me sick . . . . . with jealousy that is. Over 30 lbs with 4 fish!! Wow.
Thanks guys! It was a ton of fun, thats for sure! Hopefully I will get a chance to get back out there soon!
There are people that lurk on here that are from my area, and I don't wanna show up to the lake and have 10 boats throwing swimbaits on my spots. Hence the crudely airbrushed backgrounds.
Awesome bass!
Way to go 4B.
All I can think is "Imagine what you what have done with a 10 HP motor" ;D
senile 1, don't be sick. Just think about the wear and tear those guys are putting on their rods and reels. Not to mention strained backs, sore shoulders, tendonitis, bursitis and all the other itises. Here in the middle of the country, where an 8 is a fish of a lifetime, we really don't have to worry about that. Heck, me and my rods and reels may just last forever.
Nice job, guys.
Cheers,
GK
those are some chubby fish!
FB,
Holy moly is right! I promise if you tell me where your spot is I won't divulge it to anyone.
Bizz you learn fast! You should enter some touny's and take the worm throwers money
As long as I can enter the tournament at the end of the day! Other wise there will be some senko soakers taking my cash all the time!
Case in point:
Went back today and didn't put a fish in the boat. Missed a couple bites and dumped a fish that LITERALLY made me sick to my stomach for an hour! I'm still mourning!...Heartbreak again!
Awesome work. That is a great bunch of fish there. Congrats
Hey buddy, sorry I almost missed your post. Those are some sweet fish you guys caught there ! Yea' buddies :-)
Don't you just love it when your reeling a swimbait nice and steady..... and everything is just so quiet and peaceful.... and THUNK ! Fish on !!!!! :-)
You can't imagine how many times during my workday that I replay these events over, and over ! Then, when I'm actually on the water, I feel like this is going to happen on nearly every cast ! .......even if I have been casting for 10 hours without a hit ! I still imagine its going to happen before its over. Then, often after pulling the boat off of the water, and packing up all the gear, I still have to go back to the ramp and chuck a swimbait around a few more times :-) Never give up !
Congrats again to you guys on the great trip.
Peace,
Fish
PS, There are a lot of ways to hide your location, without using photo shop. 1) Have the back ground SOOO far away (preferably, the other side of the lake) that one still cannot pinpoint where you are at "on this side of the lake". 2) Have a steep bank SOOO close behind you, that they are seeing such a small area of shoreline to study, then fill up most of the frame with the fish and yourself anyway. 3) have the camera man, or tripod higher, and yourself and the fish lower, so that the back ground is all water. 4) Have the camera man, or tripod lower, and the fish and yourself higher, so that the back ground is all sky. I prefer options 1 and 2.
Anyway, people just don't get so goofy, if it doesn't look like your trying to conceal the background..... Even though I often am ;-)
If i dropped a fish like that I would be kicking my own a** for a good long time! sounds like an awesome day.

Thanks Chris! There is nothing better than feeling first hand just how scary it is to be a trout!
I know those photo techniques you are talking about, and I use them as often as I can. There were just complications this trip. First off, it is one of those lakes that the shore is sooooooo recognizable. One of those places where you see the rocks and go "oh thats _______ lake" Most of those actually are facing the opposite shore. We should have done the higher-lower thing. But for me as I am sure is pretty much the case for you, the pictures are for me. When I look back at past trips, I can see the whole point, and the critters in the back ground.
Add to that the fact that we were so stoked and in a hurry to get bit again, and it makes for some poor planning! I am bummed that the only picture I have is pretty crappy, but we got like 30 of my buddies PB.
I just cannot wait to feel that invigorating thump again!
Thanks everyone!
Nice hogs gents sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet...
Missed this outing last week and just saw your latest escapade. So, let's get it back on the first page.
Congrats!
