The 6th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip dates are set! Make plans now to be at Kentucky Lake, Kentucky, April 17-22, 2011!!
The lake should be at the peak of pre-spawn/spawn at this time, and the fishing is expected to be fantastic!
Not only do you have a shot at catching a trophy bass, but you'll get to meet other members from the forum, and meet the BassResource.com staff. And of course, everyone will be up to their fun antics!
We will be staying at Moors Resort (http://www.moorsresort.com/). The lodge (which is nice) has 24 rooms available, all with 2 queen beds, a full bath, microwave oven, small refrigerator, coffee pot, hairdryer, cable television, FREE high speed Internet, DVD player, telephone and all the comforts of your own room at home for $72 a night (cheaper if you share rooms)... information and friendships...priceless! ALL cabins and rooms are non-smoking. Smoking is allowed in outside areas. They also have a MASSIVE grill on a trailer that they will provide for our use. In addition, they are completely set up for bass anglers - there is ample parking for boats with hookups, plus the marina offers covered and uncovered boat slips with electric service available for daily rentals (Please ask to make boat slip reservations when reserving your room). It is easy to understand why Moors Resort & Marina hosts more fishing tournaments than any other facility in the region. Please note there are no camping or RV facilities at the resort.
You are responsible for your room reservation
We cannot hold any rooms because of high demand. So if you want to stay at the lodge, you need to book immediately. They only have one other week next year that is not already booked. Yes, it's that popular!
A one night deposit is required for each room. Deposits ($72 plus tax) are NON-refundable but are transferable.
Call Kelli at 1-800-626-5472 to make your reservation. You MUST mention group code Bass Resource in order to get your reservation. Note that the rooms fill up very fast, so we cannot guarantee you a room. If you don't make reservations right now, you might wind up staying elsewhere as they could already be completely booked!
Those of us that do attend will have a blast! Those that don't will always wonder what they've missed!
See what Bill Dance has to say about Kentucky Lake
For those flying to the event......
Nashville is the best airport to get you close. If you send Long Mike a PM with your flight #s and arrival time we will try to arrange transportation from the Nashville airport. Also if you will be driving in from the East and passing through or near Nashville, please send him a PM as you may be able to pick up a member at the airport on your way in. If we work together, we can get everyone to the lake.
For those who haven't been and might be uncertain if you'll fit in....don't worry, you will, we'll make sure of it!
More information and news will be posted on this thread regarding who's going, who's cooking, who's bringing boats, who needs back seats, etc.
See you there! NO EXCUSES!
Many thanks to Deb, Greg (R520dvx), Long Mike, and the Mods for putting this together!! There's a lot of hard work behind the scenes in determining a location and arranging accomodations. These folks did a stellar job!!
I'll be the first to say " count me in". And I might have a connection to provide some refreshments!!!!!
Jeff
If there is anyone who would like to share the cost of a room please PM me.
Maybe next year... :-[
I'll have my license then.
I've already made my reservations.
Sounds like a ton of fun! Maybe I'll be able to make the 7th one O.O
About time!
I've been looking for this announcement since I got home from Pickwick. Unless something unforseen happens, I'll be there.
I'll be driving from Mass. Anyone along or near the route I'll be taking, and wants to share travel expenses (tolls and gas), and driving duties is welcome to hitch a ride. Have room for two or three comfortably.
Deb and I have made reservations too !!
Can't wait to see everyone .....
RW and I have booked a lovely chalet nestled on the waters. We are looking forward to sharing the jacuzzi after a hard day of fishing.
Please don't tell our wives. ;D ;D ;D
Would it be worth the trouble just comin up 1 or 2 days got school so couldnt be there the whole time but its not that far from memphis.
Hmm...Sounds delicious... :
BTW...We will be arriving Saturday. So, for those coming down early...
Saturday night rocks!

You bet it is worth coming for a day or 2 .... we hope to see you there !!
What Greg (R520dvx) Said! Please join us! I promise that you will not be disappointed!
Hey guys I just wanted to applaud your selection! I live just a few miles away and our club launched out of moors last summer. My family turned it into a little get away and my pops, uncle, mother. and niece and nephew all stayed down there for a couple nights. We had a great time and we;ve been dying to go back ever since. We stayed in one of their cottages that they seem to have many of. No wifi is offered in the cottages though btw or at least not in ours. The fishing should be terrific with even some good small mouth spots not to far away. Each year is different but I'm betting it will be about 1 or 2 weeks prespawn about that time around here. I'm going to have to talk to my boss at work to get the final ok but otherwise you can sure count me in!!
Count me in too, I was mad I missed out on last years. Back to Kentucky Lake I see.
I had a blast down there with everyone back in 09, Hopefully we have a good turnout like then too.
Well.... I decided to go. But i am only going to be able to stay up during the weekend so if there is anyone in Memphis and/our surrounding areas I have no problem driving you up there as long as you split the gas with me. You will probably have to find a ride back unless you want to leave that early.
Update: Oh forgot to ask the important question. Does anyone have an open seat in there boat? Oh by the way sorry if I'm sounding sort of rude but if anyone wouldn't mind it would be great if I could tag along in someones boat I won't be no bother or atleast I will try not to be.
Count this Old Codger on showing up, dragging along a green colored Lund and a wife determined to load the boat with 2lb crappie. All it took for her was a few pictures of those specks and she WAS NOT staying home.
We've got cottage #1 from Sat. -to- Sat.
I sure hope she lets me do a little bass fishing, or I might have to bum a ride with somebody! ;D
Count Steezy in for this trip !
Just booked my room from Apr 17-22.
Is Long Mike the event mgr this year ?
Haven't been to a roadtrip yet. What can I expect besides fishing and partaking in consumption of alcoholic spirits ?
QuoteHaven't been to a roadtrip yet. What can I expect besides fishing and partaking in consumption of alcoholic spirits ?
Lots of laughs, lies, and LongMike bragging about his alarm system and GPS Minnkota. Last year was my first. It was everything I hoped it would be, and more.
I too have a gps MK and a friend who's a 5 minute boat ride from the Moors. I may just make it down.
Myself and Old Cranky are in. We have our cabin booked and will be there Saturday night for the wine tasting. Some of my homebrew will travel with us. One way only.
RW and I have our cabin booked. I sure hated to drop over $200 for the non-refundable reservation so far in advance, because the doctors told me I have only three months to live. On the bright side, RW has promised that he will refund my money if I die. Now, that's a stand-up guy!
Rhino, have I mentioned that I just installed a Lowrance HDS-8 with sidescan? I doubt that I will ever brag about my alarm system again (although it still works great.) However, be prepared to watch an incessant display of the images captured with the HDS. Uh, if I could catch a few bass. that would be even better.

No, I hadn't heard about the HDS-8. But I'm sure I will come April.
The side imaging isn't as important when I'm home. There are no waters I fish that have submerged creek beds, bridges, timber, etc., which is where the side imaging really shows its stuff.
It will find the occasional rock pile, or man made brush pile, and if you pay close attention, bait balls off to the sides of the boat.
I find the hot maps premium which shows the bottom contours in great detail to be as much help as the side imaging when searching for fish holding bottom.
Fantastic, I got knocked out of last years trip, but this is in my backdoor, so I'll definately make it a couple days this time. I've never fished the Ky area past ginger bay, so I guess I'll find new waters at this trip.....
I will be able to make it for a couple days, just not sure what days those will be yet. I have a boat and can fish two others comfortably if needed.

Sent it back.
Sounds like a lot of fun, wish I could come! :-[
Unfortunately I probably can't miss class for a whole week without bringing my GPA down something like a full point.
Kentucky Lake is only about 4 hours from where I am moving to, so I will probably come, but I doubt I can do the week days. I will try to come the first weekend. Drive down Friday night, fish Saturday and Sunday then come home. I have an older (96) Skeeter that anyone who wants can join me on. I am a poor fisherman and have never been on Kentucky Lake, but I guarantee we'll have fun!

Hope to see you there!

To all you guys who say they're going: MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW! Otherwise you won't have any place to stay.
Fair warning.
My reservations are made. I'm checking in on Friday. Hope to be there early enough to do some Friday fishing, but certainly on the weekend.
This "old guy" needs a head start on the young guns.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll have a seat (or two) open on Saturday and Sunday.
Already booked my room for the week and paid the deposit.
I will arrive Sunday and leave Friday.
RW - a blind pig can find an acorn every now and then.

Man has it been that long alredy! Guys these trips are so worth going and so in expensive concidering the fun you have. Its worth it just to make a few hours and put the names and faces together. Its amazing how much and how fast you can lern too.
I think the best part is the new lifelong friends you'll make (simplejoe shoot a pm I'm back online again lol)
I really wish I could make this one but I am in nevada now unemployed and have a baby on the way. I hope to move back to NC by tax time so next year I'm in. Untill then I can't wait for the pix and updates!
Have a blast!!!

Oh, they'll be making the trip. Absolutely.
I have another idea as well. Stay tuned.
Count me in again for the first part of the trip. We can't be there all week, but will be there Saturday, leaving Tuesday morning.
The Saturday Night Wine & Cheese Soiree will again be offered. With a small change. It seemed everybody last year was looking for something more substantial than just cheeses and munchies. So, this year we'll have a sandwich bar; roast beef, ham, wheat and rye bread, mustard, mayo, chips and dip, veg and dip, etc. I'll still have wine, cheese and fruit. Just in the planning right now, so I'm open to suggestions.
Leo, looking forward to sampling this years pressing of Chateau Leo. Tell Old Cranky I found some more ice wine too.
Hey Wayne, got a couple of new-to-me brews you need to sample.
Can't wait.
See you all there.
Cheers,
GK

The Merlot and Pinot Noir has been bottled last weekend. The Merlot was outstanding this year. The Pinot Noir is a bit on the Moonshine side. Not Whiskey but a bit POTENT. Maybe I sampled more then I can handle. Anyway some will be making the trip.
Awesome! I cant wait! Im a big wine-o! Ill bring some stuff too!
Jeff
Just made our reservation. Staying from Saturday 16 to Saturday 23.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
I can't stay the whole week, when is more happening? The beginning or end of the week?
I don't think we are having an "official" anything, but I might be
smokin' butts or grilling burgers Wednesday night.

Well now...
Long Mike and I plan to party every night and you're invited!
Our cabin is the "unofficial" Party Palace. Dancing girls welcome!
:
Kent, does that mean that I no longer have to dress as the dancing girl every evening? ;D
As long as you keep those pretty legs shaved
right up to the poody-pooh, your're fine!
Mr. Kent uuuhhh I decline the offer you gave me based on that statement....... that was just plain nasty
jk tho it seems like this trip is going to be as fun off the water as on
Oh now don't listen to ken. He got so tired of us he burnt out the air conditioner in our cabin so we had to go to another. Then we find out it was all a set up to make us leave and he turned it back on. J/j - He will be in bed when the sun goes down.

It's a great trip and promises to be a blast and if your lucky you might even catch some bass!
I personally like to look at these trips as my personal get away trips. I make it a priority to get to them now. Heck I'm passing on a cruise with the family so i can make sure I have enough time off and the boss doesn't say "you just had a vacation". In my Ming you just can't beat a week of great fishing with new and old friends. You meet allot of great people at these trips. A couple years ago was my first and I was so nervous about being the new guy nobody knew. However by the end of the trip I relized that's what's it all about. So any new members or anybody "thinking" about going GO! Make it a priority and trust me you will have a great time.
It will be nice seeing all y'all again!

Ok folks, our ability to hold rooms for the group has expired. This means we cannot guarantee you a room any more. Note that the rooms fill up very fast, so if you don't make reservations right now, you might wind up staying elsewhere as they could already be completely booked!

I got my room sat. for sunday and monday. I'll fish and hangout wed, but I'll have to head back to work thurs.

Gotcha Glenn! Already got mine booked! Lets all focus on having a great time and catching some great fish. Seriously, presenters and all that is great. Lets just not cancel anything based on anything like that happening or not happening. Lets all just meet up, get as many boats there as we can and if need be cram them to legal capacity! Heck you don't even need a boat just ask Procrafter from a couple years ago at KY lake. He was slaying them right down from the hotel room. BTW and this is a BIG BTW! Chances are the crappie are going to be going nuts take a look from the last KY lake roadtrip.
So you might want to bring an ultra light!
Trash fish...The drum are much bigger!
That sounds like a great time.

These guys are bigger but they don't taste as good!
Looked like a healthy batch of crappie Simp...wouldn't take many of them to make up a supper! I would have loved to have given them a shot 2 years ago but I didn't have the right gear along. Besides, I was too busy learning how to use a shakey head!
I'll be down from Friday until Tuesday. I'll have 1-2 spots open in my boat for several of those days, should anyone need a spot.

Trying to arrange the trip. I noticed while poking around on Google Earth, there's a BPS on hwy 641 in Benton, KY. That looks like around 8 miles from Moor's. RIGHT on the way in.
I think I'll buy a ownership share of that store just before you (hopefully WE!!) get there.

Most likely an outlet store. There's a new place open now in Benton, Ky called Fisherman's headquarters. Doesn't look too far from moors, and I think they will have a better selection from what I've been told.

I guess you're right about it being an outlet store, as I see that BPS is listed with it's google address too.
Not sure how new it is, but there was a link to a real estate advertisement showing the place was for sale. Maybe the place has new owners now. Lots of pictures of the inside of the store though, it looks like they have tons of goodies.

My trip map says it is just over ten miles from Moor's.
They just reopened a month or so ago under new ownership.
CJ took me there when I visited a couple of months before the roadtrip. It's an awesome store!

Guys, you won't be disappointed in Fisherman's Headquarters! John bought the store in July. It had been closed for 8 months or so. He also does seminars on electronics and has offered to come down to Moors and speak to the group and answer questions. Believe me, he is an EXPERT!
We are in the middle of remodeling. Adding stock like crazy. Greg and I unpacked 19 boxes of tackle in the last two days!!!

Haven't heard from either of them since a few weeks after the last road trip, but, unless I'm mistaken, they were both being deployed for another year's tour of duty in Iraq or that area of the world.
I think they were both involved in organizing the transport of materials to and from that area.
Haven't talked to bassinsoldier since the middle of Oct. I texted him to see if he wanted to go fishing a few weeks ago, but never heard back from him.

Glenn is a very busy man these days, so he forgot to mention that the new site has a form for you folks who will be attending. That sign-up form is vital to me, as I am the poor sap who will be trying to coordinate with those who have beds, those who need beds; and those who have boats with seats and those who need seats ... and, uh, those who need boats with beds ... or is it sheds with beets... I forget.
Awright then, I will be right on top of these matters. Uh-Huh. The doctor says I'm doing fine since I got out of the Nervous Hospital. Uh-Huh.
I forgot to mention, THERE IS NO SIGN-UP FEE. To date, there are no organized after-hours events, no freebies, and no T-Shirts. Deb and Greg may have an Ace or two or three up their sleeves, but they are not specific as yet.
Regardless, those of you who have signed up need to mail to me a signed copy of the form.
Thanks in advance, Uh-Huh.
The Checks In the Mail!
Oh wait, that's right..... No check needed.
Anyhow, the form is filled in, signed, and is going out today. I had the spouse sign one too just in case you needed it as she will be in the boat!
When should I ask about bringing real Michigan hotdogs and ring bologna?
Just completed, signed, scanned and emailed the form to you mike.

To Lund Explorer, and anyone else, (with the exception of Speedbead's famous chicken recipe,) if you are interested in hosting a meal for as many as fifty people please let me know. If anyone is interested in putting something like that together then I will sic our Official Bloodhounds (Greg and Deb) to find such a suitable location.
Don't hold me to this, but if I do come that first weekend I will do a fish fry for whos there at that time. The only reason I'm saying don't hold me to it is that work may make where I can't go. If everything works the way it should go, at the time I should have a freezer full of crappie and will love to cook for you guys.

Mine was fine after I grilled in the fireplace a little longer. Actually, it was REALLY good!
But still, the damage was done. Your fate was sealed Wayne. Wear it with pride!
Oh...and your comment to Mike a couple of posts up? I was wiping the tears out of my eyes I was laughing so hard! ;D
I was hoping someone would find the humor in that statement.
LOL

Hey I saw Big O down two of those chickens even after the legendary "Don't eat the Chicken" moment. He didn't nuke it or anything. It' was like he was feeding up for the spawn with the bass. ;D Now that I think of it maybe that's where he got the ragetail patented actionc from, a chicken or maybe a smoking rooster flapping it's wings. I figure it made him hungry so why not the bass.
QuoteTo Lund Explorer, and anyone else, (with the exception of Speedbead's famous chicken recipe,) if you are interested in hosting a meal for as many as fifty people please let me know. It is a given that you will be reimbursed for your expenses because we will be shaking people down at the door. If anyone is interested in putting something like that together then I will sic our Official Bloodhounds (Greg and Deb) to find such a sutible location.
Thanks Mike!
I was thinking if maybe there was something I could whip up to feed the crew one evening.
Of course seeing as how so few people seemed to like Speedbead's "It's Still Kickin' Chicken", I might be better off leaving my roadkill cookbook at home! ;D
I had 2 myself and didn't spend any extra time in the bathroom the following day. Didn't have to beach the boat either. Delicious.
Hey Wayne,
You can build bridges all your life and no one will ever call you a "bridge builder". Under-cook just one chicken dinner and you are branded for life. ;D

QuoteHmm...Sounds delicious... :BTW...We will be arriving Saturday. So, for those coming down early...
Saturday night rocks!
Well RW, If you are going Saturday. I think I can swing this one. I'll probably have to camp though. I can be there that weekend as of right now.

After the pancakes, thank God!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew you were going to go there.
At least it didn't stop us from fishing.
Might have even helped the gas mileage on the lake with the extra propulsion.
How 'bout putting the Kentucky Lake, Bass Resource, Road Trip ( http://kentuckylake.bassresource.com/ in the Quick Links box. )
I believe it was done in past years. Would make it easier to find, than searching through this thead to find it.
I've bookmarked it as a favorite for easy reference.
First post in this thread has it. :

I will be frying eggs in the cabin and staying up wind. Remember you are not hard to spot, binoculars will help. If I have to mount a tracking device I will do so. My nasal hairs have finally grown back.
Somehow or another, I am sensing Kentucky Lake daja vu .....more memorable times to come! ;D

RW- thats what I'm afraid of. I could end up being the one made fun of on the board real easy. ;D

We'll be there on Saturday, come hell or high water. (Last year, anyone?)

I will be in the mood to drink a beer and catch a fish, probably in that order.
I will be there Saturday also and expect to do some drinking.

We'll be there on Friday morning. The earlier the better, but likely between 6 and 9 a.m.
We'll either find out where they are, or where they ain't.

I'm trying to be at Blaine's sometime around 9 or so.
Deb has scouted out Moor's landing and has determined that we have a huge Bar-B-Que pit at our disposal. It's so big that it has to be towed by a car/truck. We also have at our disposal an outdoor covered shelter or, in the event of bad weather, an indoor meeting room. The indoor room will cost us about a hundred bucks. RW doesn't know this yet, but he and I are volunteering to do the hamburger thing for the group on say, Monday night. The cost to you is five bucks a head. We keep the profits and spend them on our next skiing trip to Aspen. ;D
Food is the one area I'm a bit concerned about at moors. When I stayed there we were in a cabin so I don't know if they have a kitchen in the hotel area. I know they have a restraunt, well more like a dinner at the Marnia that's in the Moors site, Problem is in my one time easting there it was pretty bad. Like I wish I left after I got my drinks bad. So grilling out as most we can might be the best option.

In the event the grille is not available, the cockpit of an aluminum bass boat would make a nice size grille. A bit of expanded metal would make a good grilling top.
I'm convinced. Long Mike is right. It's hard to beat an aluminum boat. They are very versatile.

Please tell me that I'm not the only one hauling a "Tin Boat" down there. I would hate to think of the fish boil we could have by starting a campfire under that big front livewell!

We've NEVER gotten a bad meal there! Some of the best burgers around. Word around here is that they have great breakfasts' too. If I'm up early enough for breakfast, I'm out fishing so I've not tried it.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Simp .... I don't know how long it's been since you were at Moors, but the restaurant is pretty darn good these days ..... good enough that we drive up there .... about 25 miles ..... once in a while to get a burger .
Taking a new direction, I'm thinking I should get a paper map of northern half Kentucky Lake fairly soon. I see that Hot Spots has one, but is there are better map I should be considering?
And yes, I already have all the up to date maps on my Lowrance GPS, but don't want to pull the boat out in the snow to use it. I need something to study inside a warm and cozy house.
I'm not sure, but if you get a "chip reader" at a place like BestBuy, you may be able to view it on your computer. If your computer is fairly new it might not need the reader.
My puter is four or five years old, and while the chip will fit in one of the ports, my machine will not read it. Had to get a reader which plugs into a usb port. Then it worked.
I had to get one to update my Humminbird 898.
Take the chip to a computer place and see if it will load. Or, try it on your own.
Check with Navionics or LakeMaps to make sure you won't foul it up first.
Steve,
I have an excellent lake map that was one of the perks of attending the road trip two years ago. I'll mail it to you on Monday.
FYI, have a spare power cable for my Lowrance units and an extra battery that I keep in my man-cave. I can power up the units on my bench top and play with them there. I have to confess, though, that the sonars don't work very well. ;D
Thanks Mike!
I looked at Rhino's idea, but it looked like Lowrance or should I say the maps companies wanted me to buy a software package to run the chip on my computer. On a weekend, I wasn't sure if I was going to get a real human in support.
I'd also thought about an extra power cord. The one I got is so tangled with all of the wiring behind the dash I wouldn't want to use that. Of course no amount of wire would let me haul that unit into the library!
*Note to Self* I owe Mike!
I tried it in the card reader. Before I plugged it in, I clicked the tab on the side of the chip to locked, just so it could not be modified in any way.
The computer could not open the file. Apparently you do need to download and install the appropriate software program to run it on a computer.
The Lowrance lake maps card requires a special card reader/software package (Map Create) that sells for around $100. The Navionics chip will self destruct if you try to upload it on a computer without their software, which also sells for around $100. I have the Map Create Package, but since the Lowrance units now have built-in lake maps I seldom use it anymore.
Mailing the form to you Mike tomorrow morning for the PA and WV guys attending. Starting to get a little anxious already...

Yup, if you're attending, then you need to send in the signed form with your signature, since this is indeed a BR sanctioned event.
Thanks!
That's what I thought. Figured I would ask...
To Wayne and all potential attendees. I really, really need signed forms from everyone. Not only is BFR trying to mitigate potential liability, but I desperately need your input regarding boat seat needs and boat availability. Puleeze! Help me out here!

Dang sorry about that. I'll get my group to send them out after smas.
For maps, I'd opt for this.
http://www.fugawi.com/web/products/navionics_navplanner2.htm
I looked at the Atlantic Mapping site, but unless I missed something, you have to purchase access to the maps. Kentucky lake was like 75 dollars.
This is compatible with the electronics that can use the Navionics map chips.
It has about all the lakes and ponds that are on the north, south, east, and west sections in high def, one foot increments.
You cannot download the maps, but you can plan routes on the Navplanner2, download that onto a chip and use it in compatible GPS navigation electronics. That includes Lowrance, Humminbird, Garmin and others.
You can also print out the maps.
For a hundred thirty dollars, it looks like a bargain. It also includes all the coastal waters as well.
Anybody have hands on experience with this?
As far as paper maps go ..... they don't get any better than Atlantic for Kentucky Lake .....
If everything works out with the weather, we will just look for those dam yellow flowers and stay away from them. ;D

Six bucks at your local Wal-tard. Hard for me to beat that. ;D
So far we have twenty four people who have registered. Oddly enough, four people have the last name of Jensen and only two of them are related. Go figure.
At this point it looks like we have barely enough boat seats available for all of the attendees. If you have a boat, but hadn't planed bringing it, then please reconsider.
CWB, please re-read this paragraph. ;D
Greg will have an open seat some of the week. I have to be at the clinic on Mon & Tues. Now, I realize you guys won't be able to catch as many fish as Greg is used to having to net but you are welcome to try ;D
EDIT- Ah crap it appears I posted under Earu618 account. This is Simp and we share a PC at work and I guess he didn't log out.
I've got the form printed out and I'm codinating with my group now. We already have our room reserved and half of CWB's so were going to be their lol. I'll be bringing my boat for the week and erau618 is thinking about bringing his 9.9 boat. We seem to need the seats and with plenty of ramps and coves a 9.9 will be fine. That is as long as you stay off the main lake. So hopefully he can bring his as well.
Question about the forms. Now we have a group of three from reading the posts it appears we need to fill out three forms correct? I guess just the number of attendees and "names" are confusing us.
The above post was me simp.
I believe you need separate forms because of the liability release ....

If that beer or six offer stands, we can do some exploring. Spelled with an "E", not "O". I can't remember seeing the name ever spelled with an "O" but I get get mail at work spelled that way all the time.

Sounds great. Ours is the Danish "E" version , though I have met a few "O's" over the years. We even have a large family down the road that had a lake named after them. It's spelled Jehnzen!

I've seen pictures of these guys with all those rods hanging off the bow. Sort of like the reverse of salmon fishing on the Great Lakes where we run 18+ rods off the back of the boat! You can get a regular Chinese fire drill going at times.

LOL! Most of the people who are spider rigging will be on ledges. They wont be in your way while you are fishing but they can make an interesting obstacle course for you when your running. Jonathon Creek and Blood River are where most of this goes on.

Bringing jigs with you for purchase, right?
I got my Navplanner2 yesterday. Played around with it a bit, and like it. There is one small glitch printing maps, but it may be something I'm doing or not doing. It leaves a straight unprinted gap in some maps. You can notice it on the left side of the second map.
They are faint because I need a new color cartridge in the printer. The shallows should show as blue. Until I replace the cartridge later today it cannot print blues.
I'll post more later when I install the new ink cartridges.
They show up perfectly on the monitor.
It does contain every map including the hi-def maps on the premium chips from every section of the U.S.
You can print whatever you want from a map by outlining it. There are a bunch of tools for all sorts of things. Cheaper than a single premium chip and it includes a card reader and the program so you can plan routes, and store info and interface it with their chips for the sonar units.
Here is a section of Kentucky Lake, and an expanded section of that map.
The depth contour lines are in red. I'd prefer black.
I got a new color ink cartridge. It fixed the pictures. The second is an enlarged section of the first. Notice O'Brien Branch in both. The "flooded timber" only shows up in the second after it's been enlarged.

If any of you are interested in a discounted pair of Costa del Mar sunglasses, listen up. If you have ever wanted a pair of these, now is the time. I can help out ONE person and they must be on the "registered" list.
Shoot me a PM with the frame, lense material and color that you would like. I will check availability and let you know a price. If you like it, you buy it and I bring them to you in April. Pretty simple. Let me know if I can help.

Still available to utilize this.

will i be able to go along with someone on a boat? i don't have one and although i don't mind fishing from the shore, driving from maine to kentucky just to watch a bunch of guys taking off in boats would be a major drag.
Looking at a map, it appears part of KY Lake lies in or at least along side of Tennessee. Is a fishing license from either state valid for the entire lake? Is there any advantage to buying one state's license vs. the other for non-residents?
tjmaniac, everything possible will be done to ensure that no one is left to fish from the shore. That's one of the reasons why we ask everyone to submit a Sign-Up Form. It provides me with information on who's bringing a boat and whether there is room in the boat for any non-boaters. At this point it looks as if there is adequate seating for everyone.
MNgeorge, a Kentucky license allows you to fish from the dam on the north, south into Tennessee to the HWY 79 bridge. That's about 45 miles as the crow flies. The same applies for Lake Barkley to the east. I have no idea how many hundreds of miles of coastline are included, but let's just say you will never see it all. ;D
thanks Mike, I'll be looking at signing up, need to check my budget first, wish i had enough money to do it all! :

Wa.Waa..Waaa..... . Been busy catching these guys this winter
I'll make sure to get them mailed soon.
Thanks Simp!
People are driving their trucks across the frozen surface of our lakes right now. Getting to see a picture of somebody holding up a couple of bass in front of open water is sure to make the winter crawl along even slower! JK.
My calendar says that in just three short months, I should be preparing to back my boat into KY Lake for the first morning. It can't come soon enough!

Deb and Mike, thanks for the info. I wasn't looking to see the whole lake, I was just asking which state's license would be valid for a non-resident and if there was any money to be saved by buying one or the other. Retirees like myself on a fixed income have to watch our pennies whenever we can. :
MNgeorge, I was responding to your specific question. Your best bet is to buy a KY license because you will be fishing KY water exclusively, unless you get a wild hair up your butt and want to fish fifty miles further south. As for which out of state license is cheaper, I have no idea. You can do the internet search as easily as I can.

KY license is the way to go. You can fish TN waters all the way down to Paris Landing (Hwy 79 bridge).
I am going to be tremendously busy threw April now, and I'm trying to save up money so I doubt I will be able to go now. Sorry for botherin anyone.

Well, Yes, but you will have to print the form and fill it out. After that you will have to have a type of printer that can email. Thats how I did it anyway. Scanner would work too.
LOL, can't do that one then.
Thanks for the help.

Scanners? Which type? I have a weather scanner, a vhf scanner, a scanner for the nascar races, a programmable scanner (the race scanner is also programmable) and a copier/printer/scanner. Oh yeah, and a side scanner sonar on my boat.
Yep, I've heard of scanners.
How 'bout these?
Heard of the movie, but never seen it. Which came first, Scanners or Raiders of the Lost Ark? The wax figures all melt the same way.
Gotta go. It's Springer time. Looking for a little culture. And that show has as little as any.
I'm working out the devilish little details so I can attend this year. I think it's gonna work out, so, Lets think CATCHING at KY lake...
Lets get the dock talk started.
Who would you guys say is the best Kentucky lake guy? Like Catt is for Toledo Bend. I know nobody's THAT good, but who's the closest?
AND......
If you are named here as "one of the best KY Lake guys", would you be willing to be prodded relentlessly with KY lake specific questions?
Nominations? Volunteers?
Three very knowledgeable folks regarding KY lake:
R520dvx (Greg)
Deb
CJ
Greg and Deb live on the lake. CJ lives close. All three know the lake like the backs of their hands and all three have fished many tournaments there.
or GALS. My apologies to Deb.
No apologies needed.
Don't forget Bud! He's caught more fish than I dream about......and that's a bunch!
and yes, I've had the pleasure to wake up looking at Ky Lake every morning for many years!!! Even manage to get out there every once in a while to catch a few
Never been there before. I'm thinking about going down the weekend before the Road trip then going again for the road trip.
Make sure to post up a report after you get back. I haven't been on that lake since 1968, so whatever I can remember is squat!
I'm not sure, but you may also want to mark your spots by placing small clusters of yellow flowers along any productive shoreline. It sounds like the guys at the last roadtrip there will thank you.
Never caught a Spotted Bass before...first on my list of "to do's" while at KY Lake just so I can say I've caught one.
QuoteNever caught a Spotted Bass before...first on my list of "to do's" while at KY Lake just so I can say I've caught one.
How big of a spotted bass you looking for? I can put you on a mess 12" fish.
Chances are you will catch several spots at
Kentucky Lake. Some people, like me, consider
them pests. Please keep all you catch!
8-)
Actually I haven't caught very many spots on the lake in the past few years and the ones I have caught are usually around 10-14 in. I have heard of an occasional 3-4 lber but that's very rare.
The doc talk is going to depend on one main thing for the roadtrip, "water elevation". During this time of year elevation trumps all other factors as far as location goes. Ky Lake bassfishing has, does, and will change overnight. Save your lure money until you get here or pack everything you got! There will be more than one pattern working for that time.
QuoteQuoteFiveBass better make it.
I'm definitely trying to make it happen. KY Lake is full of bass and a great place to tune your skills. No shortage of bites down there.
CJ,
So does higher water tend to chase the fish shallow?
How does it USUALLY affect the fish?
QuoteNever caught a Spotted Bass before...first on my list of "to do's" while at KY Lake just so I can say I've caught one.
Yes, there are some decent Spots on Ky Lake. I caught this one last yr from a neighbor's dock one evening.
QuoteQuoteQuoteFiveBass better make it.

You better get your butt there.
QuoteCJ,So does higher water tend to chase the fish shallow?

Well yes, what I call shallow. The rising water puts a lot of cover that was once unavailable in the water. It never fails. The majority of the bass go back, no matter the surface temps. If the elevation stays down, that's no problem either, maybe better for some cause the fish will stay congregated yet that could be hit or miss. I will give more specific info in person once you arrive. I'm very open to the BR crew but I am a tournament fisherman and I cant post detailed reports on here. I'll respond to PM's when time gets closer but even a lure list would be overwhelming.
I will say this and not to plug for any sponsors but, Rage Craws in Falcon Craw color is a sure bet! Regardless of water elevation, t-rigs, small cranks like DT-6 and 100 and 200 Bandits should be good. We'll just have to see how Spring pans out.

I have heard this attitude toward spots from several different geographical areas. Personally, not really into keeping fish, I just want to catch one, no matter the size, just to say I've caught one. One like the one in Deb's picture would do me nicely.

Thanks CJ. I really appreciate any info I can get. I completely understand your not wanting do divulge a lot of info. I wouldn't either in your shoes.
Although I've been bass fishing for over 30 years, I'm relatively new to the concept of "putting the puzzle together" on strange waters. Most of my bass fishing has come on very familiar local lakes and farm ponds, mainly small waters. So the "puzzle" to me is much easier. As a rule, I generally don't do very well on bigger, unfamiliar waters. This is an area of my expertise that I really want to improve.
Maybe when we get to KY lake, I'll have a plan put together for you local experts to critique and change so I can learn a little more.
Scrutch, don't be intimidated. This lake has a very high bass/sq. mile ratio. You will get bit! A good start is to get a topo and step back and look at the big picture. No question the bass will have spawning on their mind. They're going to be relating to bays, pockets, and/or coves in some manner. Just pick out an area that looks good to you and break the lake down in smaller areas. I will be leaking info like a BP oil rig when y'all get here.
P.S. Don't forget Barkley. More tournaments have been won off Barkley in April in the past. Only problem is, too much rain or inflow will shut down Barkley due to muddy water whereas Ky. will get just right.

Long Mike can verify this from Lake Fork and Jimzee/PitchinKid will verify it from Guntersville: Find something that looks like what you fish back home and go to it. They'll be there.
That's sorta what I was planning to do. I'm really excited to put this together and see if I can get some results. I think Rhino has got me talked into the navplanner2. I'm getting a big bonus at work in March. That's gonna add SI and a bigger TM to my boat. I'm like a little kid on Christmas eve that can't go to sleep. If my kids could read this, they'd be laughing at me.

Coffee cup? You really have turned into a wine snob. Last year it was a plastic cup with the precise amount of ice to cool it to the proper temp. The rectal thermometer was a nice touch, one I'd never thought of before.

Glenn has allowed me to post an opportunity for roadtrip attendees to pick up a Falcon rod at a great price. This is through me, totally seperate from Bass Resource, and only for members attending the roadtrip.
This will save on shipping and any problems that might arise. I will deliver the rods during the roadtrip.
If anyone that is attending would like to purchase a Falcon rod, any model, at a very generous price please send me a PM by Friday, Feb. 4, 5:00 pm CST.
I know it's short notice but I did not want to post this without permission. I also need to get the order sent in so I can deliver them at the roadtrip.

Too bad that med. action bucoo isn't rated for a little more weight. I think I'm going to get a rod for my step son for shallow and med cranks.
It's been awhile since I asked a stupid question, so here goes.
I seem to remember reading in the thread for the last roadtrip that the big smallies were found up near the tailwaters of each of the dams on this river system.
So is there a fishable population below KY Lake dam?

No need .... there are plenty of nice smallies in the lake. It should be a good time for them ....

Last year we received about 18" of rain Saturday and
Sunday. The river was closed below the Pickwick Dam.
On Sunday, in torrential rain, tornado watches and
warnings, Big O and our two soldiers caught 140 bass.
Most of these were smallmouth including two Personal
Best! All our fishing was above the dam.
If anyone is wanting a Falcon rod I need to know today, by 5:00 PM central time . If I get a PM next week I can't guarantee that I can get the order in.
By the way, has anyone heard from Bassinsoldier? I'm going to call him today, but was just curious if anyone knows if he's here or over there.

Let me say that a different way. I was under the impression with the pre-trip banter that smallies up stream in the current, largemouth farther down.
Don't worry about my meandering mind, its cold out and the snow is now @$$hole deep to a tall injun around here, and I'm getting tired of buying fishing tackle! ;D
Lund, the fishing for smallmouth is better on the lake. It has been tough to target just smallmouth the last few years. At least they haven't congregated in the Spring as often as they did in 2004-2006. But, a lot of times when you find one, you find a good one. I would start with main lake pea gravel points. Then again, we'll know better when the time comes. Maybe it will be their comeback year? Bring some 3 1/2 in. tubes in green pumpkin with 1/4 oz.slide in heads if you wanna try them. Not a bad idea to bring some tubes anyway.

That's thirty-three attendees so far. It looks like we are going to have a great turn-out!
WOO-HOO!! The warden has granted me furlough!! I think it helped that I turned 40 this week. I think its a birthday present from her. Maybe she DOESN'T hate me after all! (J/K... she's actually pretty cool)
We will be arriving Friday nite and leaving on Wednesday. Looking forward to meeting this league of extraordinary gentlemen!
RW and I will be hosting a burger cook-out on the huge pit at Moors on Monday night. The cost is five bucks a head. Any profit will be donated to a charity of our choosing, or we may just divide it up and pocket the cash.
Is there anyone else out there who would be willing to concoct a meal for this group? Deb is checking on what other cooking/warming facilities are available at Moors.

I've been thinking about it, but I'm not sure what everybody's tastes are.
I have a local client up here that has a meat market where I could get custom cut NY Strips - 14oz @ $4 each. I think we could get Pork Loins for around the same price. Plate cost with sides of homemade Potato Salad and BBQ Beans would probably run around $6. It would require a bring your own table service. Should be able to make it if the cabin folks bring enough to cover the lodge residents.
I would just need a body count by April 1st. If its going to be the NY Strips, I'd want to do this dinner on Sunday night.

Our guys are mostly Meatosaurs...

QuoteI hope Scott makes it. LOL @ Wayne for not sending it in yet. ;DQuite a few people on there I'm looking forward to meeting. Glad to see Bud coming again, he's forgotten more about fishing than what most of us have learned.
X2 on Bud.
He was a tremendous source of info last time.
CJ and Big-O were also my go-to sources.
Speed- Chicken round 2?? I'll help out(cooking and eating).
If anyone is interested in zoomed views of particular areas of KY Lake, let me know. I can post them on here or send them to you via a pm or email. Here's a sample.
Can also side by side with Google Earth. The image below is where we'll be staying, Moors Resort.
For those who have never been there, the lake is amazing. Bring your cameras. Sun up or sun down, always great scenery.
I might "swing by" Saturday, but its a very slim chance. I'll be fishing Santee-Cooper the week before the roadtrip.
Hey Mike I got Earu618 and my forms emailed to you today. Let me know if you got them. Also our boat situation is this.
Simp (me)- Bringing my 17ft 60hp tracker style boat.
Earu618 -Won't be bringing a boat
Birdman78 (pops)- Will be bringing his recently purchased 2000 Javelin with a 115hp
So hopefully this helps out the boat situation some. We should have one or two open seats each day of the trip if not my entire hoat open some days for people to use.
Simp, I received your forms today. It's beginning to look like this trip to KY Lake is going to be as big as the one in '09.
Btw I just wanted to put out there we have half a room available for the week. Earlier when things werent nailed down yet cwb and I agreed to split a room. With the way things have unfolded for our group we dont need that half any longer. So if anybody is interested pm cwb or I.

It's going to be party time, Bass Resource style!
Wow, thats alot of members. This is going to be a great party!!!!
For anyone on the bubble please do not miss out. This will be my 3rd. Kentucky Lake was the 1st with about 50 attendees, what a blast. Pickwick last year smaller but good fishing. This has been some of my best time fishing over the last 3 years. Learned a lot and had a good time. I bet we can get up to 50 before it is all said and done. Kentucky Lake is a joy to fish. Like picking fish off the pantry shelf. A Uncle Leoism, ledge fishing at it's best.

Deb we did not forget about ya all! All you good people were part of the group, a bit too hospitable but I think we can forgive you for that.
Wow Mike, an impressive line up! Whoop 'er up boys and have a blast! 8-)
You can add one more attendee. My bro-in-law is coming with me. I told me that if he wants to go on this awesome trip, he's gotta join bassresource.com.
He said he will as soon as he gets back from Australia.
Oh, and he's gonna be sending you the signed registration form too Mike.

I guess he is. I didn't see that there were two spots on the list. I swear I'm losing my mind. :-/
Can someone please re-post the name of the good source for KY Lake Maps...I ordered one way back when, but haven't received it yet.
Thanks.
We got maps from Atlantic Mapping for the last Kentucky Lake trip.
http://www.atlanticmapping.com/
That's the one I was looking for...thanks.
Ok dumb question. Will we be staying in KY north or KY south?
North, towards the dam.
Thank you Sir. I'm ready to go. I wish it was time.
Mike - just emailed you my form, pdf. If I need to mail it, let me know.
I am still planning on going down on Friday the 15th, fishing Sat and Sunday. I have a boat, not fancy or anything, older skeeter 17ft. Lynrdsky was planning on fishing with me at least one day, not sure if he's still planning on coming? Whoever wants is welcome - two disclaimers 1) I know nothing about the lake 2)I will occasionally get sent on a last minute trip for work, so I could have to cancel last minute. Not likely, but could happen.
Looking forward to it
Talk about weird...guess what showed up in today's mail. Yep, my map from Atlantic Mapping. First impression of the lake after looking at the map...much narrower than I had imagined.
Only looks narrow because it's about 200 miles long. ;D
On average, the main channel of the lake is about a mile and a half wide. You do want to be in the channel if the wind is blowing from the South at twenty plus. AS CWB said, the lake is about 200 hundred miles long, so the waves have ample opportunity to build up into downright dangerous conditions. Hopefully, some of you KY locals will chime in here.
I had a torney there last year and made a run. Well then the wind picked up later in the day and if it hadnt laid down for 20 min I would have been in trouble. I was out in the wind for a couple minutes and I was very close to being totaly airborne.
We are looking for a few speakers during the evening get-to-gathers. If any of you attendees would like to stand on the podium for five minutes or so and talk about fishing related issues, then please PM me with your subject matter. Who knows? You may become a Hollywood star!
I need to know how many folks will be attending the Monday night burger cook-out. Since I am apparently unable to start a poll within an ongoing thread, please go to the Everything Else board and respond to my poll. Thanks

You pretty much said it Mike. It's even dangerous in a 21 ft. bass boat, yes even in a Ranger. : I lost a cousin 2 years ago due to high winds on the lake. If it gets over 20 mph out of the south or north.
Don't get worried though. The bay that the Moor's is located in is as big as most lakes and hold plenty of fish. It is protected from high winds in most spots. Another thought is that you can always load up and drive over the dam to Barkley. The north end of Barkley runs east and west. It's where I go when the wind gets up on Ky. and I'll probably be doing a lot of fishing over there anyway. Barkley has more shallow cover than Ky.

This is starting to remind me of my days of running on Lake Michigan. There were a couple of times when the only reasonable option to get back home was to hitch a ride <on dry land> back to the truck/trailer to retrieve our boat. I guess we'll have to keep an eye on the weather report each morning.
Just to let you all know there were three fish over 10 pounds caught, all in the same tournament, this past Saturday. The biggest went a little over 11.
Speed, there is a ton of wood on Barkley, but like you said it depends on how much rain we get on if it's worth fishing. A lot of solid fish are caught here early in the year.
Lund, there's plenty of places to trailer to if the wind happens to blow hard out of the north or south. Plenty of boat ramps within reasonable driving distance on both lakes to find better protective water.
It's pretty easy to figure out if you are gonna get beat to death or not.
Wayne, Barkley may have more shallow cover given the lakes stay at normal pool levels.
bowfish12, that tournament ran out of Paris Landing didn't it? That's awesome! The fish are getting bigger! The shad kill probably helped but 3 double digits on the same day used to be unheard of.
It was out of Mason's boat dock in Big Richland Creek. I think most of the fish caught in that tournament came from the New Johnsonville area. The tournament was the TN River Trail.
There was a fish over 12 lb. caught last Sept. or Aug. It came from around the Richland Creek area.
There are a lot of really big fish that have been caught the past few years, I wouldn't be surprised to see a true giant this year.
I hope its me Bowfish12 8-)
Hey folks, I want to remind you once again to go to the poll in the Everything Else forum and post your vote on whether or not you will be joining us for burgers on Monday night. Big-O will be giving us a little talk on the art of structure fishing. Based on his ability to put people on BIG fish, it should be very informative and entertaining.
We have a couple of other speakers lined up also. Details to be posted later.
Anyone know Hank Parker? Maybe he'll give a little talk. See if he's interested in coming to Kenlake. Ya never know, he might just film an episode of Hank Parker's Outdoor Magazine when he comes.
The answer's always no, 'till you ask!
scrutch, tell me more.
I would but its during exams.
Quotescrutch, tell me more.
I was just wondering if anyone knew him. I may be all wet here but, I think it would be a great opportunity for him to maybe film an episode of spring bass fishing at Kenlake.
I don't think it'd be a tough sell to get him to get himself some exposure to -what I think is- his core customer base. Bass Resource has 31000 bass fishing members. That's a pretty focused group of customers for a guy like him. We are the guys buying the products he promotes, Minn Kota, Humminbird, Berkley, Ranger, etc, etc.
If you ask me, He would be near the top of my wish list of speakers. I would certainly think that SOMEBODY at this forum has a connection to him.
Let's shake the tree and see what falls out.
My wife's cousin's uncle knows his son's nephew's niece.
You're gonna love listening to Big-O. Down to earth and knows his stuff. JJ was a riot last trip to KY lake.
Maybe Big-O can hogtie one of the Strike King Guys.
How about our own touring pro, Deb! She's alot prettier than Big-O too. ;D

Notice I said "near" the top of my list. I'm really excited to listen to Big "O", I'm a rage tail nut. Too bad Deb's already taken, she's my kinda gal! I wouldn't have to hide my "bait monkey addiction" from her! ;D ;D ;D
Just wanted to let everyone know that it looks as if we are going to have at least eighteen boats making the trip. There are thirteen empty seats available for you non-boaters. Four of the boats with empty seats can accommodate three fisher people (I'm trying to be politically correct here.) Based on the Registration Forms, only eight folks have stated that a seat was needed. It appears that no one will be fishing from the bank this year.
On a side note, would those of you who are arriving early and are planning on attending Ghoti & Mary's Wine and munchie party on Saturday evening please PM me? I'm trying to get a head-count on this one also.
And finally, we will be holding our group get-togethers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the meeting room at Moor's. Those are the evenings we will have speakers.
I'm busy...
So, do we cook close outside and eat in the reserved
room Monday night? Big O can have the first burger
off the grill, but I'm hoping the talk(s) will be during
dinner. Some of us require a full night of rest to maintain
our pleasant personalities and youthful beauty.
QuoteI'm busy...Some of us require a full night of rest to maintain

Sorry Pal, it's waaay too late for you! As for me, I still have my youthful beauty, but my personality REALLY sucks.

I'm still trying to arrange a few days off. I would need to be a back seater if it is not to late. I will be a last minute decision because of my profession. How could I contact someone once it gets started if I could manage a day off to come meet some of you? :-?
ctf58, PM sent. Call me at that number if/when you will make it.
If anyone is interested from WI or IL, let me know. I have off of work, but wouldn't be able to swing all of the gas expense. Drop me a line if interested.
K, I have to ask. Is anyone going to crappie fish or catfish?
I have my flack jacket on. ;D
I doubt it, but I think crappie are in full swing if
that's what you want to target. "Bud" is the local
King of Crappie, he can tell you when, where and
how. Send him a PM and get him on the phone.
CJ, Greg and Deb are probably on top of it, too.

that time of year I typically have a UL along with me. If I catch one on a crank or jerkbait I'll stop for about 10 min.
Quotethat time of year I typically have a UL along with me. If I catch one on a crank or jerkbait I'll stop for about 10 min.
That's is going to be the plan in the front of my boat as well. My panfishing might come about for another reason though. It will most likely come from the back of the boat. Jackie IS NOT worried at all about taking a break from bass fishing if she thinks she can catch a dinner's worth of filets. If she happens across an active school of them, I just might take a break to pitch in.
If memory serves, I remember a couple of guys bringing in a load of Really Big crappie on the last KY trip.
From all I've read, we should be there in the best time to load up some crappie. You can bet I'll be throwing a crappie jig from time to time.
What is the viz typically like in the lake?
QuoteWhat is the viz typically like in the lake?
On the average about 2-3 ft. of visibility. It could be as stained as 6 in. viz or as clear as 5 ft.
03/18/2011
Both lakes are 3.5 feet over summer pool and 8. 5 ft over winter pool which is where we are supposed to be at this time in March.
On Kentucky Lake the main lake color is slightly stained to stained.
On Lake Barkley the main lake color is stained to heavily stained.
The surface water temps on Barkley are in the lower 50's and temps on Kentucky Lake have risen to the mid to upper 50's.
It is about to get real Good!!! :D

Typically it would be a shallow bite but, there will probably be more than a few patterns producing. There will be pre-spawn, spawning, and fish in between beds. Right now there are fish 2 ft. deep, fish 15 ft. deep and in between.
Thanks! Sounds like just about everything works!!
Here's a good link for some fishing reports here:
http://www.kentuckylake.com/fishing/reports.shtml
Kick N' Bass and Dave Stewart are usually right on the money with what's going on. It don't hurt to read all of the updated ones though.
GMAN, plastics should be ticket during that time. Spinerbaits and crankbaits may be part of a good pattern.
Green Pumpkin and black and blue are great colors to start with for plastics. Chartuese and white with 4 1/2 gold willow leaf for spinner baits in 1/2 oz. Most chartuese, shad, or craw colored cranks will work.

Two deaths this morning at Ky Dam....boat too close to the dam, report says motor stalled and over the dam they went.
Not a good way to start the year
On a positive note....some good fish are being caught. Saw the pic of a 10lb largemouth caught today.
Right now, the jerk bait bite has re-emerged....not saying that's what the big girl was caught on but that's all the guys bought

Boy, it's getting down to the wire. To all the members who are going for the first time, look out for lots of fun, laughs, and plenty of learning.....more than you could imagine! You're gonna find a wealth of information where you are going.
The best part is putting names to faces and getting to actually speak to these guys one on one. The speakers and nightly "mini" forums are the best, just sit back listen and ask questions...these fishing gurus are not afraid to share their experience in helping you become better in wherever you may need help.

I just could not handle the long drive from TX this year so I am riding along with another member from TX to KY and flying home on the weekdnd after the roadtrip. Would anyone from Tennessee or Alabama be returning home to the Nashville area on the 22nd or even better if anyone is returning home to Alabama (south on I65), I have an uncle in Huntsville,AL I would like to vist before returning home to TX.
PM if intertested.
Question for you guys familiar with Moors. Do they have a place to charge boat batteries?

Ken it looks as if you had a poor guide, I would never fish with that jamoke again.

Good question. They did at the Pickwick Lodge, but I'm bringing plenty of extension cords, just in case.
When in doubt, go to the horse's mouth. Just called Moors. They do have posts in front with outlets, but they also have them on the outside of the building as well.
I'll have a three way adapter so we can park side by each if necessary and share the source. Shouldn't be a problem according to the lady I spoke with.

I asked that question among others when I made my reservation(Yeah I read the thread on the roadtrip #4).
I was told that there was plenty of parking next to each cabin, and that there were either outdoor plugs on the cabins, or that others could reach their boats by going through one of the windows.
I'm planning on bringing several extension cords.
cool thanks guys. Ext cords it is.
We checked into this - and confirmed it - before selecting it as the HQ.
Cool.
Anyone thinking about fishing Barkley? I was looking at the map and noticed it wasnt too far.
I'm taking out the gear to test everything for the big weekend ahead next weekend!!!!!!!!!

Sore subject.... Our lakes are still iced up solid so the boat is going down south without too much prep work. But trailer bearings and lights have been gone over, so at least I can drag it down there. I hate not being fully prepared, but sometimes there's nothing else to do.
Moors caters to fishermen. The are outlets out the Wazoo. I'm renting a slip for the duration. Every slip has its own outlet. I assure you, it will not be like the fiasco we had at Kenlake Lodge.

I'll be at Fisherman's Headquarters all day today and tomorrow. You can call me at (270)527-5938
Mike - clean out your PM box.
Does New Johnsonville count haha. Ill be on the lower end of the lake 16th and 17th.
Sounds like there are a couple Tournaments that first weekend (16th), one launching out of Moors.

Looks like the Walmart BFL is launching out of Moors 4/16 at 6:30 A.M. 2 out of KY dam and one out of Big Bear. Be prepared for some mayhem and maybe some spying!
Yeah, we'll definitely have company. They'll weigh in at 2pm, I'll just be getting warmed up.

We should put up a BR banner right next to the BFL weigh in.
Weigh in at 2:00?Lets all show up and weigh in.
It could be helpful too. We could send the sweet ladies over to them and bribe them for information. Heeehee.
I am planning on get on the water when I get there Saturday, hopefully there will be enough parking. I will definitely spy in preparation of my week of fishing.

Same here. I ain't coming in at 2:00. They'll just be getting warmed up in the shallows then.
Though the boat numbers are down in the BFL events here, it will be a long walk to the truck on Saturday unless you put in early. During the week may not be that bad during the roadtrip but the Moor's area has the most boat traffic on Ky. Just be careful while running.
Hope you all have a great time. Wish things were different for me right now and hopefully that will change in the near future. The KY lake 4th annual trip was outstanding. The lake is incredible. It has an amazing bass population. You WILL catch fish and hopefully a bunch of you will tie into a PB. Have fun and be safe!! That lake can get rough.

Deb do you guys carry the Navionics Premium chip that usually runs like 150$? I'm adding up my costs and counting my quarters and if I have enough cash I might stop by and buy one at your shop if you carry them.

Yes, we typically carry them. We sometimes run out, let me know if you want one and I'll hold it for you.
Got the reels I'm bringing cleaned, lubed, new line, packed and ready to go.
Got the rods I'm bringing cleaned up, packed and ready to go.
Got the coolers cleaned up and ready to go.
Got all my tackle bags resorted, re-stocked, and ready to go.
Got the wine picked, packed, and ready to go.
Got my kitchen bag packed and ready to go.
Got my clothes bag packed and ready to go.
Can we GO already?
I packed yesterday, can we go today ???
My clothes aren't packed, but my boat is organized, cleaned, waxed, ditto for the trailer, ditto for my truck. The boat has been on the water the past two days making sure all things function as they should.
Fuel tank is not full. No need hauling the extra weight. Even have the tires nice and shiny.
If there is a problem, it won't be for lack of preparation.
Come late morning on Thursday, and I'm outta here, headed for Alpster's then on to Moors. Looking forward to seeing all, you too Steezy. We have to fish together on one nice day, not in the monsoons of last year.
I'm headed out to clean the inside of the windshield to mount the EZ Pass or Fast Pass, whatever it is, transponder. No stopping at toll booths for this crew.
WOW! We had a ton of rain today! The lake levels could be on the rise and put the bushes and yellow flowers in the water! Better pack your spinnerbaits and plastics.

If I add anything more I will have a permit load and be required to stop at weigh stations. No more for me.

X2. If I bring any more stuff, I'll need a bigger truck.
A little nostalgia from 2009:
Can't figure out how to make this bigger.
Anyway you can open it and look at all the mugs, (Deb and Keri are the only pretty ones) that were there in 2009.
I cleaned up the boat/tackle last night. Tonight is the truck and make me some jig trailers clean rods/reels and line. Tomorrow, pack the boat up fully and all clothes. Thursday, recheck everything and friday Head down to meet some great peeps and hopefully catch some fish.
Just making my final list, but I think everything fishing and boat related is packed. I'm really pumped to get down there. I kind of wish I would have taken some time off of work next week instead of just coming down this weekend.
BTW - I still don't really have anyone lined up to fish with either day, not a big deal if I fish by myself, but if anyone wants to ride along you're more than welcome.
For all the Road Trip attendees, here is the schedule of events.
Saturday - Wine and cheese party in cabin 7 at 7:00. Bring your own 7&7.

We're coming in late Friday nite. I still have so much to do before I leave! I'll bring some of Indiana's famous Oliver wine. Great stuff! Looks like the weather is gonna be a little cool for Kentucky this time of year. Maybe some of you can help me dial in my 1197. I'm excited to hear about the side imaging seminar!

Somebody jump on this, and go fishin with this young man. I spent a day in the boat with him last summer at Trophy Country. Good company, and a good fisherman.
Leo, Moors apparently has a huge pit that we will be using on Monday and Tuesday. As to its proximity to the meeting room, I have no idea. We'll work it out.

The meeting room is in the Lodge. The pit is on a trailer that can be moved to right outside the meeting room. It's a pretty cool set-up.
I'll be at the store part of today and on KENTUCKY LAKE (nope I'm not excited) part of the day. Let me know if there's anything I need to get done in the next couple of days. I'll be back at the store Fri and Sat. We have a tx Sun.

I tried to sign up for the Tuesday night dinner but was unable to do so--computerus interruptus occurred and I experienced modulation non-recognition issues. Nonetheless, I will attend Tuesday's dinner as well as all other festiviities.
I have an open seat in my boat on the 17th, 20th, 21st.

On Tuesday night, I believe we'll be having the Big O presentation for dessert, not desert...another case of spell checker not catching a correctly spelled word used incorrectly.
Chomping at the bit up here in the semi-frozen north. Jackie has been getting stuff together to bring down. Had she been married to Hannibal, he would never have made it over the Alps.... The elephants would have gone on strike! At least she is leaving the boat and fishing gear to me so I should find room for at least one fishing rod.
We're hauling out of here in the wee hours Saturday morning. Plans are to hit the world's best bait/tackle store prior to heading for the resort in time for the weigh-in. Maybe Deb can talk the wife into picking up a dozen or so "secret baits" that she can use to stomp me all week long.
Tuesday night's dinner had 13-14 people sign up, but I had placed an order for quite a few more steaks (20-25) so we have plenty of extras for more folks to join in. Only question I would have is whether this grill is charcoal or not. If I don't hear, its no biggie as I'll be bringing plenty along to be safe.

Deb- Can you give directions to the store from the Moors?
I'm sure I'm not the only one that will feel the need to spend money we don't have on stuff we don't need. We stopped at the store on the way to Kenlake 2 years ago and it was pretty impressive. I can only imagine what it's like now that you're involved.
Also, big thanks to all involved:

Actually, from the resort head back out and when you get to the stop sign, turn L. Go approximately 5 miles back to Hwy 68. Turn R go approximately 3 miles. Its 2754 US Highway 641 N Benton KY 42025 for all you GPS guru's

It looks like I am going to have to skip out on the Saturday night wine party. My wife doesn't know it yet, but I found out yesterday her "Alma mater" is inducting her into their Hall of Fame Saturday night. So I will need to leave the lake around 6:30 to get to the ceremony, which is in Martin, TN. I may stop by early and just say hi to everyone!
Anyway, about fishing - I'll just consider you going on Sunday, unless I hear otherwise - or call my cell 641-226-0999.

Is the highway known by another name? Most navigation systems often don't use route numbers. Have no idea why. Route 177 near our house is known to the nav system as American Legion Highway, route 6 (yes the one that runs coast to coast is known as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway.

North of town it is Main Street.
Many thanks uncle. When driving to a destination, the system does use the routes, "Continue on MA route 24 north.", but try to put it in the address of a destination and good luck. Heck, the only Benton the factory updated nav comes up with is Benton or N Benton, Ohio. Cannot bring it up in KY. But, on the google map, the baloon for Fishermans HQ shows Draffenville, so I'll try that. No problem if I cannot get it to load. It's simple enough according to google maps.
I might be able to take Tuesday or Wednesday off to come down. I'll be in need of a seat as my boat is getting the carbs rebuilt. How can I get with someone on Monday to see if any are available? Someone was nice enough to send me a PM but during the recent site upgrade I lost it.
Thanks in advance

Pack your rain gear folks.....long range forecast is calling for some very wet days.....but NO snow this year!!!
Greg and I got out for 3 hrs yesterday, I got some pics of Moors but haven't had a chance to upload them. We had 20, which the best 5 would have gone right at 16lbs. Get ready......they are hungry!!!
We are getting close folks.
I hope we all load the boat and are safe. A bit of reflection to keep you at peace.
Fisherman's Prayer
God grant that I may live to fish
Until my dying day
And when it comes to my last cast
I then most humbly pray
When in the Lord's safe landing net
I'm peacefully asleep
That in his mercy I be judged
As good enough to keep.
Now go get em!

Nothing could be as bad as Pickwick last year, it rain so much I had as much water flowing inside my rain suit as I did outside.
There was so much water in the boat the pump could barely keep up, fish could swim in the boat.
This day is dragging. Can we go yet?
C'mon guys (and Deb)
Let's start seeing some patterns and baits to load up on.
Shallow in the bays, out on main lake points, creek channels in the bays? Or maybe like Larry was doing 2 years ago. Catching them like crazy right at the entrance to the Marina. Glenn joined him a couple nights. I think one of the soldiers caught a 4+ right before the Wed. meeting off shore.
1 day and counting!!!!
Us non-locals need some inside info!
Rhino will be here to pick me up in a couple of hours. I have to go and run a couple of errands. We will be at Moor's tomorrow some time. You all have safe travels and we will see you in KY. YAAHOOO!
Ronnie
be safe guys. I'll see ya tomorrow evening.
CJ, I got your rod and bringing it up Saturday. I'll PM you the price and phone # to meet up Saturday. I'll be in Johnathan creek all day. I really don't feel like battling that wind again on the LBL side.
CWB, the only pattern I found last weekend was dragging a carolina rigged lizard on main points with chunk rock. Anything else I couldn't get bit.
Is this county a dry county we will be in???

Pops and I lucked out on that one. We didn't get down there until the day after that storm, but what we saw blew us away. I won't forget this car dealership and all the cars flooded. All you could see was the roofs of the big trucks.

Yup, it's a dry county. BYOB.
Here is the latest report from Dave Stewart - see ya down there!
April 14, 2011
Kentucky Lake: Water Level at Ky Dam - 357.77 Surface Temperature - 64
Lake Barkley: Water Level at Barkley Dam - 358.00 Surface Temperature - 63
Both lakes are about one foot below summer pool. These levels are just above the normal TVA River Operating System levels for this date in April. Earlier in the week, the lakes were fluctuating up and down about 6 inches every 24 hours but they have seemed to stabilized some over the past 36 hours. This has been another week of cold fronts with two frontal passages earlier in the week resulting in three plus inches of rain in the lakes area as well as up river. The backs of some of the creeks on Kentucky Lake are stained due to the runoff but more than fishable. Some of the creeks on Barkley are heavily stained and some are just stained. We have another major cold front approaching the lakes area tomorrow with strong storms in the forecast as well as windy conditions. This front also is predicted to drop another two plus inches of rain in the local area. Windy conditions are also in the forecast for Saturday. Anglers venturing on the lakes tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday need to check the latest weather and wind advisories before you launch.
Fishing has not changed much since last week. The Largemouth Bass are still staging on lead in banks and secondary points for the most part with some later fish still out on main lake primary points or in the front halves of the creeks and bays. Reports on the Crappie indicate that they have not improved a whole lot over last week. Folks are catching some nice fish just like last week but the numbers of fish caught have been reported as less than one would expect for this late in April. Most of the Crappie being taken are still over staging brush piles in the creeks and bays with only a few reports of shallow fish. This is probably due to the up and down water levels this past week, hopefully the lakes will stabilize or at least quit the yo yo ing up and down so these fish will settle into good spawning patterns.
Largemouth Bass: Largemouth are being taken on lead in banks and staging points just off the spawning flats. The numbers of these fish are good with a few nice ones being taken. These fish are staged up to move up to the spawning areas as soon as the water levels come up, which should be within the next week. These staging fish are being taken on medium and shallow running crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Texas rigged lizards and creature baits, tube jigs and jigs. Some Largemouth are also being taken on main lake primary point and on channel banks and secondary points in the mouths of the creeks and bays. These fish are obviously the latter part of the spawn fish which have yet to move toward the spawning flats. These fish are being taken on deep diving crankbaits, Carolina and Texas rigged lizards and creature baits and jigs.
Smallmouth Bass: Smallmouth Bass are being taken on gravel banks in main lake cuts as well as on gravel banks and points in the front parts of the creeks and bays. These fish are spawning. They are being taken on Carolina rigged creature baits, tube jigs and jigs. The numbers are being reported as low but a few nice fish are being taken.
Some of the productive lures reported this week are: Strike King series 5 and series 3 crankbaits in sexy shad, Spro Little John medium running crankbaits in spring craw and black/chartreuse, Bandit 200 and 300 crankbaits in rootbeer/chartreuse and black/red patterns, Strike King red eye shad lipless crankbaits in red craw and sexy shad, Zoom lizards in green pumpkin and pumpkin, Charmer timber pups in green pumpkin, watermelon/purple and watermelon candy, Charmer tubes in road kill, green pumpkin orange flake and green pumpkin orange and purple flake and Slong's jigs in phantom with Net Baits paca chunk trailer.
Crappie: Crappie are being taken over brush staging brush piles in 7-12 ft of water by vertically fishing with small jigs and minnows in the creeks and bays. Some nice fish are being taken but the bite is reported as sporadic and numbers low for this time in April. A few reports of early and late in the day Crappie being taken on shallow gravel banks by casting curly tail jigs and road runner lures. Most of these fish are being reported as smaller males.
Bluegill/Redear: I have not had any reports on these fish but I would like to comment that over the past few days some of my clients have had Red Ears biting the tails off their plastic lizards as we are fishing for bass on gravel bars and gravel banks just off the spawning flats in about 3-4 ft of water.
FLASH: The Cabin Bait and Tackle located on U.S. 62 in Kuttawa will be holding an Open House event on April 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to closing and on April 23rd from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be seminars during the days by many bass fishing professionals and industry representatives. These include professional anglers Guido Hibdon, Deon Hibdon, Payton Hibdon, Bill Smith and Ramie Colson as well as industry representatives Robert Nosbisch (Outlaw Rods) and Steve Riley (Shimano). Noted electronics expert Ben Parker will also be there on April 22nd with a seminar on Hummingbird Sonar and Side Scan. There will also be a number of tackle representatives attending with product specials and more. Be sure to mark you calendars now and plan on attending for some great information, deals and fun. The Cabin also has been given word that Kevin Van Dam will be making an appearance at the store sometime later this summer but no date has yet been set. More to come on this as more information becomes available.
FLASH: Fisherman's Headquarters located at the U.S. 68/U.S. 641 triangle in Draffenville has returned to normal seasonal hours and is now open 7 days a week. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to dark Mon thru Sat and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. The store is stocked up with all your needs for bass fishing and panfishing. Come by and check out all the great new bass fishing tackle and get the latest fishing information.
I highly recommend both of the above stores for all your fishing needs. The folks at these stores not only know fishing tackle and are friendly, but they are also knowledgeable anglers and can assist you in selecting what you need to put those big fish in the boat while you are here at the lakes. You won't find better tackle shops anywhere else in the lakes area.
I also would like to recommend that while you are here in the lakes area that you stop by and visit Jet-A-Marina which is located on U.S. 62 in Calvert City just a couple of miles north of Ky Dam. Not only does Jet-A-Marina have a great showroom full of the latest in Ranger and Stratos bass boats as well as accessories, they also boast a top notch service department that has the best reputation in the region for great service. These folks have taken care of my clients many times when they have had problems with their boats while here and virtually saved their fishing trips from becoming a trip with no boat to fish with. These folks will do everything they can to keep you on the water if at all possible and do it right...no one could ask for more from a boat dealership. Jet-A-Marina also boasts some of the lowest prices for bulk engine oil anywhere.
GUIDE SERVICE: For those of you that may not be familiar with my service: I am a full time catch and release bass fishing guide. I only guide for bass. If you want a panfish guide, I would be happy to recommend one but if you want bass, that is what I do. If you book with my service, you will have me as your guide. Heading out in one hour to Bloomington, IN to pick up my bro-in-law. Then on to Kenlake! See YAWLL there! Be Safe!

It looks like Saturday is the only day I can fish. I have some things to take care of Sunday that really need to be done. I might be able to get that stuff done late Saturday night/early Sunday morning and make it back up to fish until dark but don't know yet.
As for next week, one of my co-workers is off the whole week, and it would put strain on the rest of the dept. if I was to miss a day or two.
I should see some of ya'll Saturday afternoon when I drop those rods off.
Give me a shout Saturday during the day and I'll let you know if we are catching any. I'll send you a PM.

Anyone that hasn't left for the Roadtrip yet I desperately need your help.
I just found out I'm out of Chartreuse JJ's Magic. If anyone has an extra bottle or might be passing by an open tackle shop that carries it, I would appreciate picking up a bottle for me.
Send me P.M. I'm leaving at 8:00 tonight and will be going past Deb's place around 4:00 - 5:00 A.M. tomorrow and I doubt they will be open. If anyone can pick some up, call 224-234-2985. Thanks in advance. You will be handsomely rewarded.

Hey, I just wanted to tell the Saturday evening revelers that I am looking forward to meeting you all. I'll be leaving KC in the morning and meeting Dan Timpe (Daniel My Brother) at some strip pits in Illinois for a few hours of fishing. Then I'll be on my way down to Kentucky Lake to meet all of you. I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks Deb. Mike has been kind enough to help me out, unless he gets stopped at the border. You need to talk to the boss and get him to stock the stuff. If nothing else, you'll get more traffic due to people thinking it's an Italian restaurant!
Big-O is the man !
I owe all my catch on kentucky lake to the advice and tips i got from Big-O !
Hey guys, just back from Fork last night. Trip cost ran more than expected.(Didn't catch much either)I won't be able to make the trip to moors atleast not for the stay like I expected. May try to come up monday morning for the day though. Don't know If I'll run into anyone though, since I'm sure all will already be on the water. So If ya happen to see a fella in a red triton that looks lost up on those Ky waters, that may be me.
I'm back home from my short stay at the Roadtrip. I had a blast and wish I could have stayed longer. I was glad to meet CWB, Long Mike, CJ and his wife, Big O, Steezy, Simp, Scrutch, Road Warrior, Fishing Rhino, Glen and Keri. Wish I could have run into the rest of the bunch. The fishing was pretty good for me - I will definitely go back there soon. I am now living vicariously through you that are still down there, so post some pics!
Hey oteymc I still got your wingnuts for your battery. Cwb told me to tell ya he is dry now.
What a great time and met some great people!! So I'm counting the days till Roadtrip 2012
Hope all are safe after the storms. Also hope ya'll are getting to fish some. I really wanted to come down but between the weather and work I just can not make it. Someone post some pictures please...
Hey yall, I just got home from the Roadtrip. Man what a great time! I learned so much from everyone, especially Big O. I can't wait to take all the tips and apply them to my home lakes!
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all. Glenn, Keri, Lund Explorer, Long Mike, Uncle Leo, CWB, Birdman78, Tombstone, MNGeorge, Roadwarrior, Alpster (how's the thumb?), Fishing Rhino, Simp, Oteymc, MR. STEEZY (Great fun to fish with you! Sorry I didn't put you on more fish!), CJ (thanks for all the tips!), Greg & Deb, and BIG O (thanks for all your education and mostly for your patience and caring about us little people. It was truly an honor spending a little time with you and learning from you!).

Roadtrip pics and videos coming soon...
Hey guys,
Please send me your pics and videos so we can put together a video recap.
Thanks!!

How was Wednesday's fishing? Did the storm shut them down a little? How about a little Roadtrip fishing report?

Big O

All I can say is WOW, what a great trip. Got to see some old friends and meet some new ones. Despite 20 mph winds every day, still caught lots of fish and worked on different techniques. Fished with Oteymc first day and caught 'em pretty good cranking the rip rap. Thought I finally got my double digit but it was a massive drum. Then got to spend a day flipping with Big-O and we found the "turbalicious" smallie hole. It was like a day at school on the water. Flippin' 101 Swapped some pretty good stories too. Got a real nice smallie: I said 4.5 and Big-O said 5 so I'll defer to him and say 5 lb. Then fished with Bud. Threw nothing but Space Monkeys and had a great day. I think Bud knows more about the lake than the Corps of Engineers. What a wealth of information. Had the pleasure of landing one close to 6 lb. for him. Then got to fish with Fishing Rhino and Alpster. Rhino kicked our butts with his drop shot wacky rig but we caught up after we started using shakey heads. Great day. (Hows the thumb Ronnie?) Then went out with Long Mike. We caught a few on the main lake but decided it wasn't worth fighting the wind. Hit some sheltered spots with a shakey head and got into 'em pretty good. I think I even saw Mike smile once or twice. Then I finally got to fish with Simp after plans changed almost every day. We went over to Barkley and got a mixed bag on a variety of techniques. Simp got a real nice one flipping a crankbait into the trees. Then before leaving I got to fish with Deb. She whupped my behind but we had a great time. Greg is one very lucky guy. After having some Bar-B-Que and shooting the breeze at Fisherman's Headquarters, left for home. Some pix to follow, but my camera died after getting wet Saturday. Can't wait for next year!
Just a short note for now to say that the War Dept and I made it home safe and sound. Probably not the best plan to go fishing on the morning before a 12 hour drive home through light rain, heavy winds, and finally fog. So after a few hours of sleep, I need to unpack all my goodies, clean out the boat, and try to figure out how to put into words all of who I met and what I experienced over the last week. You're all a great bunch of people, and I'll post more later. For now, I need to put my longjohns back on.
By the way, I can report that Ronnie is on the mend.... He released all his own fish Thursday, and I'm sure that habit he picked up of ducking every time I casted will be easily overcome!!!!
Had an absolute blast at this year's Road Trip! What a great group of people, and my only regret is missing past Road Trip Events. I arrived on Wednesday and was able to share a room with Rhino (thanks BTW). Fished Wednesday by myself and battled the wind landing a couple of LMB all under 3lbs. Enjoyed dinner at the Moors restaurant on Wednesday night where I met all the other Road Trippers! I'd love to list the names of all the great folks but it would use up the lines I have on this post! Fished Thursday with Roadwarrior- We had a very eventful day with the morning slow battling wind but as we fished the Kentucky Dam and were about ready to leave -WHAMMMM! I had something crush my DT-6. At first feel I figured a Drum... OH NO- this was something else! With three bursts away from the boat and a frenzy shake of the head I knew this was one mad Smallie. After RW took over the controls of the boat to keep us off the rocks I commenced battling this energetic fish. After about a ten minute drag pulling fight, I landed my PB. The fish went a tick over 6 pounds and that fish put the icing on the cake for this great Road Trip event. RW and I moved to a couple different spots that day capped off with finding balls of shad off a point in the main lake catching over 20 LMB in two hours. Nothing over three pounds but all keeper fish. Back at the beach, we decided to hit Patti's Restaurant and that was really great food. Fished with RW again Friday but the weather really hampered our morning of fishing. Tried Barkley Lake with no real success. Overall an awesome Road Trip event and I'll be there next year for sure. Thanks again to all of the fellow Road Trippers for your hospitality and sharing your fishing knowledge!
Oh ya- the Road Trippers have officially voted that I change my forum name to Mr. Swabby... Long story but the Readers Digest version is it has to do with my career in the Navy!
You guys are killing me. I am sitting here crying in my beer. I so wanted to make this RT more than any of the other ones I have missed. Glad y'all had fun and caught lots of nice fish. Hope all made it home safe;

The clothes are unpacked, washed, put away, and the boat and tackle is well on the way to being cleaned and reorganized. This old fart even got a fairly decent night's sleep and is well on the way to healing up all the little aches and pains that a week's worth of fishing creates. About the only thing left to do is to come on here to reflect on this trip. Suffice it to say, there is no way to put into words all of those thoughts. Nor was there any way to spend the amount of time needed getting to properly meet with everyone who attended. I'm sure that would take at least a month, so if that ever is a possibility, let's hope it isn't held in a "dry" county!
To Glenn and Keri..... A plain thank you just doesn't seem to be enough. I've been lucky in my life's work to meet a number of people who have successfully started a venture of one sort or another, but never has that come to a more gracious couple. Whether in casual conversation or in the time you spent talking to us as a group, it is easy to see why Bass Resource has become what it is today. I'm looking forward to seeing grow into everything you want it to be.
To Deb..... Well girl, you got your own post located here:
To Gary & Mary..... Thanks for hosting a great get together Saturday night. It was the perfect way to start our trip.
To the Burger Gang.... Great eats guys. Mike was surely correct when he said these dinners gave all of us a chance to gather in the evening.
To the Big O..... Sir, your nickname should be EF Hutton. When you talk, everyone should listen! I don't think I've ever had the pleasure to talk with such a knowledgeable and entertaining fisherman before. I'm looking forward to next year's trip, and next year's batch of new Rage Tails.
To MNGeorge.... Yup, I finally broke that new rod in on Thursday with a bunch of fish caught using a short C-Rig on it. I'm looking forward to bringing many more fish with it, thanks.
Last and absolutely not the least to Alpster my fishing partner for two days..... The time we spent both onshore and on the water were the best. Without a doubt there will be memories that will be coming back to me throughout the year. I hope that we will be able to team up again next year, and if our luck improves, you'll have your camera with you the next time my boat floats off down the bayou on its own! Then again, maybe the young man who gave me the boat ride to retrieve it will take up my invitation to join us here so you'll have another witness!
I guess the only thing left to do is to thank everyone else who I got to meet but didn't list here. I'm looking forward to spending more time with all of you next year. Now I think I'll go in search of Steezy's report on how that new rig of his is pounding those Houston bass.
It was great to see everyone! I hate that I didn't have more time to spend with the gang but was thankful for the time that I did have.
Jackie, you've got it......keep kickin his tail I'm very happy and proud of you! Maybe next time, you would consider going fishing with me ???
Keri, it was so good to get to spend the afternoon on the lake with you. I look forward to our next trip out!
CWB, Ken, it was a good day on the water with you. Wish we'd have caught more fish, but I always wish that. It was great just chatting and enjoying being out there. If you get a chance to come back down, we'll do it again !!!
We made it home after a long travel day but it was worth it. Seeing everyone at the road trip was tons of fun and I can’t wait until next year. We haven’t decided where to go but we’re working on it.
Thanks to all who took us fishing, OT on Sunday, Dave on Monday, Gman on Tuesday, Deb and CJ on Wednesday, Long Mike on Thursday and Greg on Friday (please thank John again for the use of the boat). Glenn and I have a wonderful time especially teaching Long Mike that turtle speed works great for plastics. LOL
Please send your photos so we can get to work on the road trip video.

You got Mike to slow down? Congratulations!
I have to publically apologize to Kerri and Glenn. Next time I will have a hook sharpener.
I wish I could have stayed longer and fished with more members.
Just a quick note to state another Roadtrip get a big thumbs up. Been crazy catching up at work the last couple of days. I will post up some of the high lights and get Glenn some photos before the end of the week. Hopefully Friday, dang customer's are bothering me. GOOD to see everyone again. Finally got a better one on a Steezy bait on Friday. Big O knows!
