I'm thinking about organizing two BR road trips for 2016. The first will be the Second Annual Baked Potato Classic, to be held at Toledo Bend in March. The second will be for our friends traveling from the North, to be held on Kentucky Lake in May. As with all previous Road Trips, everyone is invited, novice or pro. You do not need a boat to attend. There are always seats available. Further, women are encouraged to attend with their significant other, or you are welcome to attend alone. Ladies are always treated as ladies on these trips.
The only difference between these and previous Road Trips is that they are now "unofficial." Glenn and Keri may or may not attend. There will be no sponsor giveaways, nor Pro speakers. Regardless, it will be the annual opportunity for many of us regular attendees to renew old friendships and, most importantly to establish new ones.
I would appreciate your comments before I finalize any plans.
Edit: Having received all comments, here are the dates and places.
The following are the dates for the Road Trips:
Toledo Bend - The Jack Yates Classic - Arrive Wednesday March 23rd, depart Monday March 28.
We will be staying at the Fin & Feather Resort. Five rooms have been blocked in the motel. There are cabins available, but the available beds are limited.

Kentucky Lake - Arrive Wednesday April 27th, depart Monday May 2nd.
We will be staying at Moors Resort and Marina. Two cabins and five rooms at the Lodge have been blocked. The cabins will sleep four each. There are other cabins also available.

Each person must make their own reservation. When making the reservation you MUST mention that you are with the Bass Resource group.
You may stay a longer or shorter period of time than the dates shown above. If you need a roommate post it on this forum.
You do not need a boat to attend. No one will be left standing on the bank.
Would love to be at Toledo in March
Not sure I'll be able to do either of those two, but I will be at the Bassmaster's Classic in March at Grand. Maybe try to put something together for guys going to that?
In on both barring cataclysmic events. Where did y'all stay last time on KYL? Have that in mind for next year?
Bert, plans are to stay at Moors Resort on Kentucky Lake. It has all the amenities, plus is on the north end of the lake, allowing easy access to Barkley Lake if the wind doesn't cooperate.
http://www.moorsresort.com/
Also, plans are to again stay at the Fin & Feather on Toledo Bend.

I don't think it will happen for me this hear, maybe a few years in the future, but would definitely love to attend a BR event in the future!
God willing and the creek don't rise, I plan on making both. I timed my surgery to be healed up by fishing season up here and was recouping for the first Baked Potato Classic. Missed seeing some and the opportunity to meet others, not to mention a chance to fish that legendary water.
I'll probably be staying in Indian creek at Toledo I know someone that has a camp there with a hydrasport boat
Ooo ya!
Sounds great!
I'm down for both.
Man o man.....I love these bass resource road trips! Now, two bass resource road trips? Somebody pinch me.
The Baked Potato Classic was a blast last year and the 2 previous road trips were fantastic too!
This is very exciting.

The last time the Classic was here.....we all met for dinner.
We should do that a minimum......in addition to the two road trips.
Gonna try and make Toledo Bend, I'm not too far away.

Funny that you should mention this, as I was already seriously thinking of an April 2016 trip.
Original plan was a Sat. 4/23 -to- Sat. 4/30 trip, but I could get talked into a later date. How does Sat. 5/14 -to- Sat. 5/21 sound?
FYI, I'd probably be making the trip solo this time as the War Dept. is getting a new job and won't have the vacation time. As long as it doesn't sink, I will be towing a boat, will gladly be willing to pickup someone along the way, and will gladly rent a multi-bedroom cottage if anyone wants to share.
The only bad news is that I couldn't make a trip during the first 10 days of the month. In a moment of weakness, I have been talked back into my former career on a part-time basis.
I'd be interested in the KY lake trip depending on when it is. If its mid to late may I will not be able to attend.
Question. My father is not a member can I bring him with me
On 6/23/2015 at 7:15 AM, kingmotorboat said:Question. My father is not a member can I bring him with me
Yep.
Everyone is welcome, member or not. The only restriction is that those under eighteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
I'm a definite maybe for KY Lake.
Is it a tournament?
I'm in for Toledo Bend, will try to make KY Lake too.
Lucky for me I'm 29. But I still may need adult supervision lol. If you hear me say hold this and watch this just run
On 6/23/2015 at 8:46 AM, Carolina Bassin said:Is it a tournament?
No it is not a tournament. It's just a bunch of folks getting together to visit with old friends, and most importantly, make new ones. Side bets are optional.
Because I would like to make the Toledo Bend event an annual one, would any of you folks who attended the first Baked Potato Classic have any objection if we changed the name of the event to the Jack Yates Classic? Many of you who fish the Bend knew him or have at least heard of him. Jack was a regular contributor to these forums. He was also a mentor to me and to many others. He passed away suddenly several years ago and Catt suggested via PM that we rename the event in honor of his contributions to these forums and to the countless people whose lives he has effected. I fully agree with Catt, but would like to have your input.
That's a heck of a good idea!
Great idea!
Jack (fishfordollars) Yates passed away suddenly on January 18, 2011.
I found out later from his wife that when Jack had joined this site he was in a difficult place in his life, his physical ailments had taken a toll on his mental outlook on life. The friendships he made here both in person and online help him change his entire outlook on life.
We will from time to time step on each others toes, bump each others elbows, & bruise each others egos. I thank Glenn, all the moderators, and sponsors who keep Bassresource not only about sharing information but about friendships, and helping each other by paying it forward.
Thank You & May God Bless!

If the choice of date came down to Mike making a choice between when you could go, or if I could attend, my choice would to make the effort for you to attend. I already have a trip booked in February to head north for Devils Lake perch, and making a trip to Kentucky Lake a week or so earlier was already in my plans.
Who knows, I might sneak down for Jack's Classic!
The boss and I we're just recently talking about our own roadtrip for 2016.
We decieded to run Rt 66 all the way to Pacific in our new motor home...
(I just Love this retirement gig)
Even tho we're both from Chicago which is where it starts, I really didn't want to drive that much out of the way being we live on the So West coast of Florida.
So we thought of picking it up in Oklahoma, which with a little time planning on the boss end, who I elected as our official navigator, we probably could make both, maybe one coming and one going!
Hmmm
That may work out. We had such a great time at the last Official Road Trip in 2014 and met so many people who I can still call friend, that we may have to work both of these in.
Anyway, as of now put me and Jeannie down for both.
I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Yates, but what better way to honor a members contributions than to have a permanent remembrance of a man that was obviously respected by the folks who knew him!
Mike
There was an article in Bassmaster about a fishing roadtrip on route 66. That would be so cool!On 6/23/2015 at 10:25 PM, Mike L said:The boss and I we're just recently talking about our own roadtrip for 2016.

I can't speak for everyone that was on the trip this year. I think that is a great idea to name it for someone that contrubuted so much to this site. It would be a small token of appreciation that would honor his memory for a long time to come. Might even be a good opportunity for those of us who did not have the pleasure of meeting him to get to know a little about him. Mike, we have plenty time to plan a nice event. I can't make a whole week but should be able to be there for weekends and maybe a couple of days during the week. Let me know if I can help with anything, I have a travel trailer a few miles from Fin and Feather and I'm up there 2 or 3 times a month. By the way, thanks for planning the last one. We all had a great time.

I know and I missed out on it because we were staying in Grove instead of Tulsa. I think Big O was the only person we ran into walking around the expo the little bit that we did. Would be nice to get to meet a few people in person that I post with on here.
I'll be at grand as well
I think I'm in for the Kentucky Lake event. I highly doubt I'd be able to make the Toledo Bend event. That's quite a hike coming from Wisconsin.
While I won't be there, I think it's an admirable gesture to name the Toledo Bend event after Fishfordollars.
Is it just me or is it really hard to believe that was over 4 years ago already? He was a solid dude on the forums.

Looking forward to seeing you again.
I would love to attend toledo bend as i am about 20-30 min away at ft polk. Unfortunately i do not have a boat so hopefully someone could help out in that aspect. Until then hope everyone keeps their lines tight woth ol big mouth
You do not need a boat to attend our Road Trips. No one is left standing on the bank. All you need is the desire to make new friends ... and maybe a rod and reel or two.
Then i am definitely down got the rods and reels covered and always up for meeting new people especially ones i have already learned alot from

Having read all of the above posts, I will be trying to set up some firm dates for each of the trips within the next few days.
Mike, Toledo Bend is HOT right now. Not the fishing as much as the temp. Just checked the weather here and it said 104 and feels like 120. I think i will nap til 5 or so.

Looking forward to making it to my first roadtrip. I live here in Ky and cant wait!

Is there gonna be a day where a big get together happens like during the weekend?
Made my reservations for the Kentucky Lake trip.
Now looking into the Jack Yates Classic @ Toledo Bend!
Nearly 100% sure that I will be at Kentucky Lake, and 80% sure that the War Dept. will be tagging along. Tentative plans would be to arrive on Saturday 4/23 and depart for home on Sunday 5/1.
If I'm there, I will have a boat and will have a seat(s) available at least three of the four days 4/27 to 4/30.

We always have a group gathering on Saturday evening. It's usually held at an off-site restaurant. I'll make reservations after I get a firm head-count.
In addition to the 'Big' event.......we gather together each night and shoot the bull. Last year we ate dinner together....sometimes breakfast together....even ate lunch together a couple of times. It is informal and a great time! We just play it by ear a lot.......it's great!
I can't tell you how great it really is......I may very well enjoy this more than the fishing!
Don't get me wrong....the fishing is great too. But we forge new friendships and reinforce existing friendships with these conversational get togethers. We talk about the days fishing. We talk about this and that. We laugh and joke......it's like you have been friends all your life.
The whole trip will be great!

I'll be there for the Mr. Jack Yates Classic. Wish I could have met the man.
I'm 90% sure on the KY lake trip.
Booked into F&F for Wednesday thru Sunday. Not sure on the Mrs. right now but hopeful she will attend as well. Anybody sitting on the fence better jump in on this trip. It's a flipping (literally) bass paradise! Hoping last years attendees will be present!
Planning on attending Kentucky Lake. I've seen and heard that craw fish are red there and maybe have a hint of blue/red flake. Also, I've seen paca craws with a color called Kentucky Special. Finally, I've read that purple with green pumpkin is a good color for Kentucky Lake. Does anyone else have experience with color knowledge for baits to use at the lake?
I will be there for the toledo trip for that saturday. Ill be driving up the morning of. Is the launch from fin and feather?

Being a teacher, I have to say no to both Being from Ohio, the Kentucky lake would be great, but our spring break is early April so I won't be able to go. Need to do a summer one, I know when the bass bite is a little harder. LOL

Can't make Toledo Bend, its' just too far. I will be at the KY Lake trip. I really like this lake.
Looks like Mrs Mike and I will make the KY Lake trip.
We'll be staying at the camp ground if we can get in.
We really enjoyed ourselves and meeting everyone at the Wilson Lake Roundtrip last year.

Wow, it's looking like we are going to have a great turn-out at KY! Maybe we can convince Ghoti to host his Wine and Cheese Soiree' again.
Looking forward to another new lake to fish with old and new friends!
These trips are great! The whole trip.
Eating breakfast with friends.....if you want to.
Fish all day with an old friend or a new friend.
Eat supper with friends.
Then sit around and chew the fat with folks.
Sleep good....wake up and do it again.
Just a dang blast!
If you have the chance.....you really should try to make it......you will be so happy that you did!

Forgot to mention that we will be staying at Fox's lodge on Housen Bay on the Texas side. If you will be in the neighborhood let me know via PM. Cell phones don't work very well in that area, but at least we can try.

I'll PM you when I'm out there but for this weekend and the Road Trip, when it comes to fishing licenses are you good with a Texas or do you need a LA license? For the guys travelling from neither state what do they need by way of licensing?
Texas or Louisiana license is acceptable but what ever side you launch on you follow that states laws.
Thank you Catt
How's the fishing Mike?
Bert, my trip was a disaster. First day out I spun the hub on my prop. Second day out my trolling motor went south. Because there was no chance I could get the TM repaired on a week-end, I folded my tent and came home. My cajun cronies are catch and eat guys. Before I hit the road, the three of them had put nine keepers in the boat. I got a text today, telling me that as of lunch time they had put seven more in the boat, not counting a 7 1/2 pounder that was released. Our rule is that any bass that is five pounds or greater gets released. The lake is unusual this year because it stayed at such a high level for so long that it killed a LOT of grass. Most bass are being caught in the remaining grass in 3 to 6 feet of water.
d**n the luck Mike! Glad you have time to fix the boat before the road trip . Hopefully that grass is staging a comeback as we speak.
Bert, FYI, my buddies have returned from the trip. In five days with three of them fishing from one boat, they put 37 bass over 14" into the boat. At least 20 of them were over 3 pounds. They released two over 5 pounds and the 7+ I mentioned above. I wish I could have been there, but instead I spent $240 having my TM repaired and $100 having my prop re-hubbed. I think they had a little more fun than I did.
For you folks planning on making the Kentucky Lake trip, I received an email today from Moors stating that room deposits are required no later than November 1. It was my understanding that the cabin/rooms I blocked would remain so until 30 days prior to our arrival. I have asked for clarification, but I just wanted to give you folks a heads-up.
EDIT: I received an email from Moors today stating that deposits MUST be made by November 1, or the rooms I have blocked will be released. I know this is short notice, but Moors is such a popular place that they dictate there own terms. They are already taking reservations for 2019. When making your reservation, be sure to mention that you are with the Bass Resource group.

What's the deal with boaters? My friends been wanting to go on a trip to KY but I dont know if I can get the boat down there. He's a rookie but I've fished it a ton. Wouldn't even have to leave moors to catch fish.
tbone, I'm not sure what your questions is, but BassinChris and I are towing our boats from Tulsa. It's a nine-hour drive for us. Moors has great launch facilities and covered slips for rent plus there is plenty of truck/boat parking available. As for non-boaters, there should be plenty of empty seats available.

Pretty much answered my question. Don't know if I will have the boat if someone is using it for a tournament.
Don't forget y'all........gotta pay the deposit by November 1st to ensure your reservation is held for Kentucky Lake.
Who all IS gonna make the trip(s)?
I'm in for Kentucky and trying to arrange for Toledo Bend.
That's a very timely post Chris, especially for the Kentucky Lake trip. Ghoti will once again be hosting his Wine and Cheese Soiree. It's a great meet and greet occasion. Ghoti needs a fairly accurate head count in order to plan his menu and to know how much to spend at the liquor store. As for Toledo Bend, I need a head count also.
My wife and I are gonna try and make the Toledo trip so out me down for two.

I have 2 beds available at the Kentucky Lake road trip......anyone interested in sharing a cabin?
Let me know.
ONLY 1 bed left.
Let me know.
I wonder who took that other one.
Pretty likely I'll make both. Sharon is a maybe for TB.
I heard that the greater Fin and Feather area are stockpiling taters!
Just a friendly reminder.....reservations for Kentucky lake have to be paid by November 1st.
C'mon y' all.....it'll be a great time!
Just got off the phone....reservation deposit paid for cottage and boat slip.
WooHoo!
Heads up guys. Moors Resort told me this evening that no reservations have been made by Bass Resource members. Be sure to mention that you are with the Bass Resource group when you make your reservations. You have only a few days to do it or the rooms/cabins I have blocked will be released. The same thing applies to Toledo Bend. Tell them you are with Bass Resource.

I called her back.....and she says they have a note in my reservation as me being with BassResource.
Gentlemen, and ladies, I regret that I will be unable to participate in any Road Trips for the foreseeable future. Almost a month ago my wife suffered a brain hemorrhage. She has been in the ICU ever since. We have been informed that she will eventually recover, but it will be a long, slow process. It will be three to four months before she is even able to take care of herself. It will come as no surprise to you that I have decided to stay by her side. I have asked BassinChris to take over the few responsibilities I had as the trip coordinator. Have fun you folks, I wish I could be there.
Sorry to hear about you & the your wife's health problem. I hope she recovers quickly. Best of luck to you both Mike.
Really sorry to hear about your wife's health issues Mike and, of course, caring for her is top priority. Praying for her quick and complete recovery. You will be missed for sure. There will be lots of fishing trips.
I also made it clear that I was with Bassresource. I will call back to be sure.
Sorry to hear that Mike.
I pray for a speedy recovery Mike.
I am going to help out this year as Road Trip Coordinator and I need your help.
Please let me know by PM or email if you will be attending either of the road trips.
Thanks
Chris
Mike
So sorry to here this...Please tell her Jeannie and I are praying for a complete and total recovery.
Stay strong.
Mike
Chris, check your PM

Probably made the last trip to Toledo Bend for the year. Winterized the camp etc. I caught 16 fish Saturday, biggest almost 6lbs. It has been tough for me this fall. After Christmas I'll have to start looking around and getting ready for the trip. I have one date conflict I need to resolve, If I can I'll be there.
I think I'm in for KY lake. I've been wanting to make it to one of these road trips. Is there anything specific I need to do?

You need to make your lodging reservations.
You can post here to see if there is anyone who needs someone to share a room with if you like.
Better hurry though.....the released all the rooms and cabins they had held for us on 11/1/15.
Will you need a seat or will you bring a boat and have a seat available?
Other than that.....just show up and have fun.
Holler at me with any questions.
My buddy and I just received permission from CINC Houses (aka wives) and lodging reservations confirmed at Moors Resort for 27 Apr-1May at Kentucky Lake. This is our first BassResource Road Trip, really looking forward to it. We'll bring a boat with us and might be able to squeeze one more with us if needed.
Is there going to be an agenda released as the dates get closer?
Yes......I will put something out closer to the Road Trip.
A little late. Sorry to hear Mike, I hope all is ok.
The dates are a bummer! Ill be getting y for the B.A.S.S. Regional on Lake Mead.
Still sounds like a great set of trips, good luck to everyone! There's always 2017

Getting close.
Counting the minutes!
Anyone else gonna join us?
You will have a blast! These road trips are a great time.

It's not too late for you to join us.
You will have a great time fishing and meeting new friends and see old friends again!
You do not need a boat to attend........I have never seen anyone left at the dock that wanted to fish......a great time for sure.
You will be looking forward to the next trip on your way home from this trip!
So let me know if you can attend and I will get your name on the list!
Get'n closer.....and see the list above!
Oh, if only I could join you guys on these trips! I've had so much fun on the previous ones, seeing old friends and, above all, making new friends. As Chris said above, you don't need a boat to attend. No one has ever been left standing on the bank. Whether you are a newbie fisherman or an old salt makes no difference. The only requirement is that you be 18 or older, unless you are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Dang! I really was looking forward to meeting you. Hope all is well with your wife and family. Catch ya next time I hope.
Yea Mike, hope all is going well. I will try to get to Toledo bend Wednesday night, Thursday at the latest. Hope we can get a few more guys to show up.

Here now and every weekend, actually, except the last weekend of this month, I'll be at Caddo. Miss it.
BTW.......I have 2 beds still available in our cabin at Kentucky Lake.......anybody interested in sharing the cabin.....?
Anyone from Minneapolis area thinking of going to Toledo Bend? I have always wanted to fish this area, watching too many fishing shows during winter months We can car pool.
Anyone interested in splitting a hotel room at Toledo Bend?
I will be at KY Lake events. I just put it into my GPS and I'm 6 miles from the Moor's so I'll stay at my home.
Can't wait to see some of my old pals and meet some new ones!
EDIT: This event is scheduled the same weekend as the FLW series event on KY Lake. I'll catch the tale end of the roadtrip.
Chris
FYI: Since 1/216 14 double digits caught!
It'll only get better
If anybody has any questions about the area for the KY Lake roadtrip, shoot me a PM and I'll do what I can. Some of you will be happy to know that Marshall Co. is now a wet county unlike recent roadtrips.

I'd hang that on the wall, in the car, over my bed etc...Great Job!!
Booked my room today at The Fin And Feather, Now the Real countdown begins!
That bass plus many other 10# were caught in Housen!
Hopefully all this rain doesn't raise the water level too much.
Hey y'all I might be able to do Ky lake but Im not sure yet... I'll let ya know if not I could do 2 of the days maybe..
Good news is Toledo bend is only 2.34 feet high right now from all the recent rains. It should be back down to normal level by next weekend hopefully.

It's 1.4' above full pool & about 2' + where it was before the rains.
There's strong currents in every creek & on the main lake.
The level will be back down but y'all be facing muddy to off colored water.
Just gonna have to play it by ear!

My big one weighed 7.4 and I had over 20 fish that were 4+lbs. Also had one about 11lbs throw a crankbait 10 ft from me. The lake is on fire!!
It was great to see old friends and meet some more at the Jack Yates Classic.
We doubled in size this year to 8 attendees. Some did not get to stay long.....but hopefully next year they will be able to stay the whole time and maybe others will join us.
The fish did not want to cooperate with most us....bassfanantic was the exception!
Less than 30 days 'til the Kentucky Lake Road Trip!
That's what I call doubling down Chris!
Wish the rest of you would join me!
Would you please post an updated list on who all's going to Kentucky Lake? I'm going to try and round up some sponsored product and need a good estimated for Burger Night. I'm targeting Friday evening. Thoughts?

20 days!
Gettin' closer.
I have heard from a couple of sources that Kentucky Lake can become pretty dangerous with a North/South wind and we can move over to Barkley Lake.
Y'all heard anything like that?
Been there, done that. Sometimes you may have to trailer to another location on the lake.
I've stayed a couple times at Moors. I enjoyed my trips and found plenty of places to fish on either lake. Hope you guys have a blast!
Well, I know it's still early, but can anyone post a fishing report about what's working right now? I'm mostly interested in knowing if you are still throwing The Rig?
I would suspect jigs, cranks, and spinnerbaits, with that said in the next week to 2 a lot will be changing around here with the warmer temps.
WOOHOO!
8 days to go!

Yes if you brought a boat there is usually someone who comes without a boat.
At Toledo Bend.....I only used my boat 1 day and went out with someone else the other days.
it always works out.....nobody is left at the dock.
