What's the absolute worst weather related issue you hate when fishing? ex: Rain, Wind, Hot etc.
I absolutely hate fishing in the wind. I can never cast well, I get extremely cold, and because I wear contacts my eyes get extremely dry, and water alot.
I can pretty much withstand all other weather.

Flat water and gentle west wind, brings out the noseeums, they love me and I hate them, give me wind with 2-4 surf.
I won't bass fish in the summer, the heat and humidity isn't too bad but those gnats drive me crazy, I may go out if the wind is blowing.

Thunderstorms, though they are much more than an annoyance.
The only time wind really annoys me is when there are whitecaps, and the wind is blowing onto the launching ramp.
One of the ponds I regularly fish has a sandy ramp with very little slope. You literally have to get all four wheels into the water to launch and load, with the water not quite up to the rear axle level.
When the wind whips up while fishing, the only way to reasonably load the boat is to set the anchor off the stern, then let the boat drift to the shore, and tie the line to a stern cleat when the boat is close to the shore, and off to the side of the "ramp".
Back the trailer into the water, get in the boat, and pull it back toward the anchor. That's no small feat when waves are splashing over the stern.
Once in deep enough water, lower the motor, start it, pull in the anchor, back the boat further out and get it lined up for the run to the trailer.
Nudge it in and out of gear, with a bit of reverse now and then to slow it down, and keep your fingers crossed that you get it right the first time.
With the stern bobbing up and down, there is not much chance of backing away without getting the prop into the bottom.
Can't even powerload, for that reason. I wear my hip boots for the process so I can get off the bow, into the water, and winch the boat into place on the trailer.

Out here it's Wakeboats. With that said, I get over it quick, it's also their right to be out here enjoying the water and even though we do so in very different ways, I respect that they have no idea what I'm doing. Plus I spend more time off the water in the heat of summer.

The greatest annoyance here in Korea is something you've probably never had to deal with in the states. Fishing nets! The waters here are covered with fishing nets and I lose more tackle in those things than everything else combined. The nets are anchored down with ropes that stretch out for several yards under the water and you obviously can't see them, but a crank bait finds them very easily and there is no way on earth to get them out short of going diving. And the nets are EVERYWHERE! I probably lose about three rigs per outing on average to fishing nets. Very frustrating!

I have no boat so I am stuck fishing from the bank. What really drives me crazy is people who make a lot of noise, or kids (including my own) who throw rocks and sticks into the water.

Weather conditions only bother me to the extent that I am unable to fish - ie winds higher than say 30mph, too much for my spall boat - but I down frown upon wind too much - I agree with the other folk that it is a bit annoying when it changes direction frequently.
The worst summer heat in aug-sep here in Alabama - killer heat and humidity - for me the heat and humidity I can stand, but the sun hitting you all day relentlessly is pretty tough - I have decided that this next summer I am gonna do two thinngs: 1) use an umbrella attached to my chair perhaps or 2) just go night fishing for bass and striper during that 1-2 months.
I dont mind the cold weather as much down here - last winter it was a cold winter with temps frequently in the 30's for longer than usual stretches, and even some snow brrrrrrrr - I still will go fishing, and I still will prefer this to that scorching relentless sun as I can put on a slew of clothes, hand warmers, propane heater, to stay warm, but jeez that heat is tough at certain times
really I get kinda psyched with a a decent stiff wind and rain - somehow my fishing always turns on in these conditions.
Oh, but rain and near freezing, that is nearly intollerable for me I think - that may be the worst come to think of it - 41 degrees and raining - RETREAT

Wind does suck, but in the worst cases, I can usually find somewhere where the water is being shielded from the wind by trees. It's steady/heavy rain I hate. It's miserable to fish in (especially when it's cold) and when I get home, I have to empty out all the compartments in my boat to dry everything. If there is a chance of it raining all day, I don't go fishing.

Sometimes I like the wind (if it's pushing the baitfish and the bass where I can find and reach them) but otherwise, it's a pain in the rump. But the exact opposite is quite annoying too-those dead calm days when the sun bakes the shriveling brain in my skull and the fish have gone somewhere I can't find.

I'm surprised to hear you say that. There is nothing better than standing in a stream all alone with snow falling around you, while catching trout. I would assume in upstate New York, there are a lot of beautiful streams to get away on.

I just do not fish in a steady soaking rain, slight drizzle and/or on and off showers are usually desirable.
All kinds of wind is just a way of life here. Blowing over 20 mph is a deal breaker for me.
Sunny, HOT & FLAT CALM is brutal. Although I often fish in it anyway with very little success except sunrise/set and night ops.
Also Fog at night is very tough, there is just NO depth perception. So while casting to shallow water structure, I occasionally launch lures half way up into a tree line because I was a little closer than I thought. Attempting to get them back is always an adventure as well. I usually end up flippin at that point.

it is 21 with 16mph wind. You could not pay me to hit a river today.

My biggest complaint is ice on lakes...

WIND...without a doubt. I can handle just about anything else, but winds over 20 mph really dampen my enthusiasm.

Wind for the simple fact that a lot of times I'm fishing on a pontoon boat (grandparents lake), so that thing gets blown like a sailboat. Even when I'm in the Champion, I hate the winds that'll leave white caps...hate them.
A few people say how they hate the heat, but I love it. The hotter the better. Less fishing preassure on the lake, and the fish (to me) are more predictable. I fished a tournament last year with a temp of 109 .

Heat doesn't bother you cause you likely have a top on the pontoon boat. (good fishing boat by the way) I have a clamp on umbrella on my kayak, another for my dogs of coarse

if its too cold i can't move my fingers, and i lose the dexterity required to change lures or handle my reels properly. i think the worse is when it's upper 90's even 100's with no wind. cant tolerate that. if its that hot with even a slight breeze, its possible

Wind is okay, as long as i can control the boat & fish at the same time. I hate the heat and humidity, and drenching rain, and blue skies/no wind conditions. Not catching anything after a couple of hours annoys me a little, but taking 4 or more hours (unusual) really starts to work on me. People that boat, jet ski,or paddle between me and a dock that i am fishing from 50' away don't help much either. But the worst is the ice....

Gusty wind is the worst for me , I have what might the smallest bass boat ever ( 15 ft Cajun aluminum low profile ) for now.
And the wind can sink me for real, if it starts to white cap I head in.
Plus I've had no luck in the wind----Yet

Other people!
1. Parents who don't watch their children who come too close to me and get in the way.
2. People who yell and scream around me.
3. People who throw things into the lake like rocks.
4. Boats that don't respect others while on the water.

I wish. Normally I'm fishing in a bass boat in the summer, but there is a lot of time spent on the pontoon boat. We had to take the cover off the pontoon boat after it was slammed into the ceiling of the boat lift :/

For both quality & quantity now through March is absolutely my favorite time to be on the Bend but you had better plan on rain and temperatures in low 40s.
That's our summer in my state.

Ice and freezing temps. I hate the cold!
I don't mind the heat..... 17 years in Texas, the heat ain't nothing here.Just stay hydrated and bring plenty of water & fluids.Sunscreen and hats help.
My biggest peeve is watching some of these shore anglers breaking every law in the book.No license, over harvesting, keeping fish under the size limit.
Another annoyance is watching one guy set up 5-6 rods all along a tiny bank space not allowing anybody else to fish there. My last fishing trip I ended up getting into an argument with a guy over this. There's a 2-3 rod limit as far as my knowledge goes on most of the places i fish..
My days of Bank fishing is coming to an end soon,I got a goal to get a small boat in my future which will allow me to hit places i know nobody else can reach.

East side we get 100* in the summer or so. The lake I fish the most hits around 85-87* water temp and the smallies are super predictable. Love it.
Worst conditions?
Wind. Being in a 17' aluminum it blows you all over the place.
Bugs. Hate the nasty buggars.
People. Most are inconsiderate.
I love fishing in the rain though. Never have real good luck, but nothing like a warm rain storm

Although rare, lightning. I am pretty hard core, regardless of extreme cold or heat, I could care less. Wind, Schmind... wussies stay home anyway. Water freezing in the guides while standing in an icy, cold, flowing river when it's 15 degrees F? No problem. But with lightning, even I will reluctantly throw in the towel if the hair on my skin starts to rise up.
The other annoyance is having awesome weather for a few days and the fish are active and then when I finally get the chance to go, a cold front steps in and shuts them down. I still go fishing though.

1. Wind, if the TM won't hold and the anchor won't hold fishing becomes a chore.
2. Ramp idiots, block the ramp and take forever to get the job done. I think these people are inbreeding and reproducing too quickly around here.
3. Jet skies, It is a good thing I do not keep a gun in my boat or I would be writing this from jail.
4. Heat does not bother me too much, but cold or cold & rain is miserable.

Here is an outline of an average Carp fishing day for me. You stalk up to a carp through thick brush, and it sees you. You stalk up to a carp, and it sees you. You stalk up to a carp, and it sees you. You stalk up to another carp, and it sees you. Then you stalk up to a carp, and it sees you. Finally one does not see you, and you stalk up to it, and then it sees you. You stalk up to a carp, and it sees you. Then one actually doesn't see you, you go to make a cast, and your little size 10 fly fell down through the top guide, so you slowly get it out the top guide. Then you go to grab the rod handle, and a twig catches the line and pulls the hook through the first guide again. So you set everything straight, make a pitch, and the line stops halfway cause theres a loop in your line, so you set it straight. Then you finally make a pitch, and it catches a branch and you spook the carp.

My biggest annoyance when fishing, would have to be people. And I really don't care if they are fishing, or joy riding. I just don't want to see another human being within range of my eyesight. That just bugs and distracts the heck out of me.
Next would be wind.
Granted, 2 weeks ago, the wind was ripping, and the waves were pounding me into the shoreline.... But I was sticking the heck out of those big Stripers, and had the whole area to myself ! I'd take a windy day like that, any time
Peace,
Fish

Even if its windy, cold and raining you can have a good day. Even if you dont have a really great day at least you dont have to share it with a thousand other people because who would want to fish in those conditions

QuoteThe greatest annoyance here in Korea is something you've probably never had to deal with in the states.
Yes sir...nets and then a close second are the carp fishermen who line the shore with 10 rods each and if you're also fishing from shore, don't think twice about setting up right on top of you like you're not there.

Yes sir...nets and then a close second are the carp fishermen who line the shore with 10 rods each and if you're also fishing from shore, don't think twice about setting up right on top of you like you're not there.
inconsiderate fellow anglers. when you're on a point and a troller comes within 20 feet of you, smile, and wave. causes brain hemorrhages every time...

One thing I hate more than bad weather is bad weathermen.
Earlier this summer I left work early to fish into the evening. The forecast was calling for overcast skies with possible showers. Perfect!! I spend an hour gettin the boat ready and driving to the pond. I launch the boat and make two casts and boooooom!!! flash!!! Thunderstorms moved in. I pull the boat and go home.

For me it is fatigue.I tend to stop and fish on the way home from work and fatigue messes with my concentration.I wish i could take a 10 minute power nap in the car once i arrived at a spot but I'm usually so fired up to go fishing i cant fall asleep.

A big annoyance is guys like the one in the picture. Have the whole potomac river to fish and this guy comes into where a friend and I were fishing. The area is a warm water discharge, we were casting to the other side. He saw us doing this and came right through were we were casting. The warm water flows from here into the main river and provides 1/4 to 1/2 mile of fishing areas. Most is unreachable from shore, perfect for a boat.
Got a little funny because he wanted to fish one particular spot. But a group a kayak competition was using the upper part of the discharge for a competition. The pool this idiot wanted to fish was their turn around area. Got a little of his own medicine before he left.

QuoteHere is an outline of an average Carp fishing day for me. Then you finally make a pitch, and it catches a branch and you spook the carp.
what? :-?

The old Potomac bent pole pattern! Just drive up and down the river until you see someone catch a bass then pull 25' from them and start casting. >
I had a guy do this to me at Big Slackwater and it really ticked me off! He is coming upriver at like 60mph sees me catch a fish and immediately shuts down. Next thing he does is drop the TM and come in right beside me. At one point I thought he was going to hit my boat and he did cast over my line he was that close. Whether he was just that ignorant or a complete Ahole I don't know? I can tell you he received several WOT fly byes.

QuoteOther people!1. Parents who don't watch their children who come too close to me and get in the way.
2. People who yell and scream around me.
3. People who throw things into the lake like rocks.
4. Boats that don't respect others while on the water.
X2!!!!!
I fish at local city park lakes, and families with little kids running around really set me off, they are screaming, chasing ducks, standing too close to me...
And when I ask them nicely to move back, they only take a step back so I have to ask them again in a more stern tone, and they take another step back, and they dont get the fact that they will get smacked in the head with my rod or lure if they are too close to me( I wish that would happen so they learn...). Another thing about kids is that their parents dont watch them. And the last, most irritating thing is when there are field trips to the lake and there are 15+ kids running around yelling and screaming, and when I throw my swimbaits and pull them out of the water, they always seem to notice and ALL of them run over screaming "HE CAUGHT A FISH!!!! HE CAUGHT A FISH!!!" and gather around me and ask me if I caught a fish and if they could look/touch it. I have had this morbid urge to say "Go ahead, and see what happens..." hoping they would stick themselves on one of the trebles and leave me alone. I know that sounds A**holish of me, but they need to learn somehow...

So for all you guys that hate the wind, and the bouncing mushroom anchors that go with it.....
Have you ever tried using an old window weight?
I have several in the 20lb range that I use as drag anchors. They are about 2 feet in length, and not much bigger than a beer can in width. But if you hang them far enough back off of the boat, the entire length of the weight lays on the bottom which produces a lot more drag than a mushroom anchor.
You can also move forward by simply hitting the trolling motor as their shape is fairly snag free.
Just an idea to help fight the wind.

Humidity, this past summer, Michigan had like a 2 weeks, just up crazy humidity. I can stand the hot weather, but if it is humid, it takes a lot to make myself wanna go.

Cottonseeds, at least I think that's what they are, that collect on the water's surface and have a tendency to collect on the line. They can be a real pain to pick off, especially on braided line. I often cut the line and slide the mess off rather than try to pick it off with my fingernails.
I absolutely love fishing in the wind, it has so many fish catching advantages, and the heat and humidity don't really bother me as long as I can jump in and lounge on the shady side of the boat for a few minutes to cool off mid way through the trip.

hate that stuff. i was fishing once with braided line on a baitcaster, the cottonwood crap caught the line got through the guide on the reel then i went cast and it stopped at the the guide. i have never seen such a bad backlash.
i hate constant rain, wind and cold. i dont mind rain or cold unless its put together with wind or each other. but i hate wind the most. heat isnt bad cause depending where im fishing right before i move i will jump in. i also have lots of water
