How Many Fish Have You Caught So Far? 2024

fishing user avatarmacmichael reply :

I've caught 9. They range in size from 4 pounds down to 12 ounces.

I got 4 of em on a white 1/2 oz spinner, 2 on a rattle trap, 1 on a strike king sexy chad, and 2 on a fat john. One of these days I hope I can catch enough that I just can't remember how many!!!!!   :)

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

A little over 200.  I will update the exact total tomorrow.  I keep a detailed record at work.  Biggest so far is 9lbs 5 oz.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Some where between 300-350, largest 7.7 lbs ;)

fishing user avatarhatrix reply :

I think around 15 so far. Today was the nicest day we have had this year. It had been 70 all day and post frontal conditions and steady 20+ mph winds so I went for a little over a hour after work. I caught 7 today with 2 on a 5" savage gear real trout and 5 on a 5" decoy hydra tail. The biggest was 4.2# and that is my biggest this year. I have only gone out a few times for a couple hours at most each time. Every time water temps have been just above freezing with today being the exception.

I hope this will be a good year but until just this week it has still been fairly cold with near freezing temps every night.

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

Here in South Florida we are now in low water conditions in the glades.  The bass are concentrated in the only deep water around, the man made canals and gator holes.   100 fish for a full day are the norm now.  I fish 6 days a week in a number of locations.  I have caught between 1500 and 2000 bass since January.  Keep your line wet and you will catch a bunch of fish.  This is one of the reasons I picked this place to call home. :eyebrows:  :respect-059:  :eyebrows:

Keep a line wet and go where they are. So far this year I have fished 3 days in Florida and 6 days in Mexico. The other bass were caught around here, but those numbers are in the 30's I would guess. I will do that breakdown tomorrow as well.

So far I've caught 22! The 3 I'm proud of were 7.5 and 2 that were over 5!

fishing user avatarBassfishing375 reply :

I wish I could fish year round, we still have a little ice on the lake. When I went to Florida I caught about 12 bass.

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

24...had to go 600miles south for em lol

Wont be long here in northrern PA and ill be adding to that number

fishing user avatarDavid D. reply :

I've caught about 75 bass so far this year, largest being a little under 6 lbs. Most were caught with a chart/orange spinner, but a lot have also gone for T-rigged plastics.

I get to fish probably 3 or 4 times per week after I'm done with classes for the day as long as I don't have any exams or anything coming up to worry about so the time that I'm out fishing adds up... even if it is rarely for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time.

fishing user avatargulfcaptain reply :

considering I've only been able to "bass fish" about 21 days so far this year I'm up to 30, 6 of which came today with 2 being a 5.04 and a 4.25.  Not to shabby for city park ponds/lakes, biggest this year so far was the 1st fish, a nice 6lber on a swimbait.  And being I have a 25% rate of fish over 4lbs, I'm not gonna complain. I'll take quality over quantity any day.

fishing user avatarZhouNi reply :

only 2 so far   and they are not much bigger than the bait i use  :cry4:

fishing user avatarskeeter1980 reply :

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

I have caught a whopping 0! The ice is finally breaking up in front of my house so it won't be long till I can get out there but technically can't start bass fishing until May 3rd.

fishing user avatar00 mod reply :

OK, so here is my official tally:

242 bass caught

64 in Florida - 7lb 15oz biggest

164 in Mexico - 9lb 5 oz biggest

14 at home - 4lb 9 oz biggest

Top 5 bag so far - 42lbs 3 oz

I have no idea, I don't keep track of numbers or size, I'm sure it's quite a few fish.  Most of my fishing is saltwater, again I don't keep track of anything but doing pretty good in the size department.  I won't be doing much bass fishing until November.

fishing user avatarT-Rick reply :

I've only fished for an hour but I caught my first fish yesterday.  It wasn't very big but it was my first of 2014 and my 3rd bass ever (just started at the end of last year).  It also was my first on a baitcaster. Any estimates on the weight of my first and only catch of the 2014 would be appreciated.

With the water temps in the mid 70's today you can add another 15 up to 4 lbs. We are still at the lake so we will see how the morning frog bite goes.

fishing user avatareverythingthatswims reply :

Last year I caught 446 largemouth and 116 smallmouth, and I focused more on trout and crappies last year. I bet I caught 50 bass today, the dinks moved up into shallow water but the big girls were still pretty sluggish, we saw quite a few 5+lb fish and they wouldn't even look at a bait. However, everything under 14" was ready to EAT. Saw a few males chasing the females around in open water trying to get them to spawn, but I haven't see any bass on beds yet

fishing user avatarSmallie Seeker reply :

Been on the water 4 times. I've caught 16 so far. 8 on white spinnerbait. 2 on jerk bait. 6 on KVD rodent. Same story here. Mainly short males which have moved up to the beds. No lady friends yet.

Well we had a 100+ bass day in February and a few other good days at the power plant lake before the ice came off. We caught 50+ fish both days we were are Table Rock last week. I had 32 bass in 3 hours at a local lake last Thursday. I've been to a couple other local lakes 3 times total and caught over 20 each visit. I caught 63 today in 4 hours, so I guess I'm getting up there :) Biggest fish so far is 4lbs 6ozs on a homemade bladed jig.

DSCF0484_zpsba616b36.jpg

Homemade bladed jigs, home made finesse jigs, and a jerkbait have caught a majority of my bass so far this year.

Not keeping exact count this year, last time I did I ended up with nearly 3,000 bass in a season of fishing though.

WTG Bluebasser!

I wish I fished 7 days a week, a 4 month old makes getting out at all really tough sometimes. The year I kept track with a clicker style fish counter I got to 1,000 bass by the end of April. I also wish we had some amazing lakes in KS, but they're far from it. Mostly it's that there's a lot of small lakes with high population densities but poor size that offer good numbers but almost zero bigger fish. One good example would be Wilson State Lake. A friend and his wife fished it last year for 5 hours and caught over 300 bass between them, but not a single one was over 18" even, most were 12" or smaller. The power plant lakes really concentrate the fish in the winter so if you can get them firing you can really lay it on them. At least 2 days were on a big public pond and my 64 fish day was on a private lake.

Weather has only permitted me to get out three times so far this season.   Two catches with the largest during lunch break last week 1.70 lbs.   Here in Illinois... 70 degrees last weekend.   Yesterday, the temps dropped to 25 degrees and 1+ inch of snow (Yes it's mid april)   Now rain coming in the next few days.   This weather sucks.

fishing user avatarDwight Hottle reply :

I don't keep a running total of numbers but I would guess around 250-350 for this year biggest just at 9 lbs. These were all from FL & Mexico. No brown bass yet but will probably try on Easter Sunday.

fishing user avatarChance_Taker4 reply :

0 Bass and 2 Nice Catfish from Lake Erie. 1 cat was about 8lbs and the other 10-11lbs. Small for Lake Erie standards but big in my book.

Don't really count, but I'd say in the 400's, Reminder, Calif. + Lake Oroville spots = a bunch of bass each trip! Now that it's spring and low 80's air temps the bite is getting much better. Get ready for 100+ fish days for the next couple months.

fishing user avatarMossBack reply :

I would say over 150 for myself, and so far this year is starting out great, I have beat my previous PB of 5.5lbs four times already with a 6, 6.25, 6.5, and 7.25lber.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

Probably around 200ish. Biggest being 6.62 went all the way through March with out a fish over 4lbs. Caught several in the low 5s in the past two weeks.

Proudest accomplishment is having a new 16 year old fishing partner that has caught over 100 bass this year with me and has a PB of 7.13 lbs in his second season of fishing. He caught the fish by skipping a 1/4 homemade jig of mine under a thick bush into the back corner of a laydown. When I seen the lure placement, I actually clapped and said, " that's how its done !, you catch a fish there" .... And he did...

If I don't catch another fish this year, I am happy and content with knowing that I've taught a young man this sport and that he's learning something that will give him a life of joy.

This year for the most part, most my success has been on jigs and t rigs ans some c rigs... Yesterday was a different story. Squarebills 7, chatterbaits6, and I caught three and lost two on a LC 3.5 wake bait.

I've been out five times this year, each for only an hour or two.  I caught one dink LMB @ Blue Hills Reservoir, but am pretty convinced it's been fished out because my Sonar Phone showed only the odd ping here & there, which is supported by comments made by other guys who fish there.

I found another small pond (more like a big puddle) where I caught another dink LMB on a Rapala crank bait.

My Sonar Phone said the water temp was in the low 40's.

Alot of those guys may still have ice or seasons that are closed still... They will be on the fish soon. Down here in the south and middle of the country we have fishin with no real stopage. There's a lot of good fish, fisheries, and fishermen up north..

Give it a few weeks, guys like AJay, MNbassman, JFrancho, FrogTurds,Speedbead, WW2farmer, WNY, will all be spanking our butts. Those guys and plenty of others on here and nation wide prove that there's plenty of good fishing up north.

I'm just glad that I don't have to deal with ice or in the MN guys case a closed bass season.

I think we NE-erners are gettin jealous hearing bout the spawn-time bass fishin down south.

Fish up here in Jersey still bite but its a winter/early Spring bite.. fish are still just snapping out of it and I am seeing some aquatic vegetation budding.

Went fishing once for 2 hrs on an afternoon and finally caught a male 15" on a jig after frantically trying to search and cycle through my lures to figure out what the state of affairs is and where they are.

Sunday evening I found a great hole for Peacock's and pulled in 3 in an hour!!

Landed those on a rebel frog.

How many fish have I caught this year? Several? A lot?

The only sincere answer Is this: I have caught aplenty, some small, small big. I love to catch fish and of course that's the goal of every trip but to count would be a time waster to me. In reality the only fish that really matters so far this year Is my wife's personal best. Now that Is "ONE" fish I will remember the rest of my life.

I know the above sounds a little snotty but I assure you It's not meant In that way. I simply don't care about numbers but In a special few Instances.

That was the first fish I caught this year on a quarebill. Hopefully the crank bite will be heating up around me soon.

fishing user avatarCDobber reply :

And I'm off the schneid.  Thanks to these forums, I used a little trick I would not have known and it paid off.

I was using a 1/8 oz black buzzbait in my quarry.  I could see 8-14" fish in the shallows again, so it was simply figuring out what they wanted.  I felt a short strike and remembered to put a trailer on...I used a Berkeley Havoc 5" Purple Haze "The Jerk", and landed the first one 2 casts later.  I moved down a little deeper and tried again after no further success in the original spot, and cast parallel to the shore, caught the 2nd.  1st one was at least 20" but tape measure wasn't taut, could have been 21"....and the 2nd was 9".

May 15th, I was using a plastic lizard and only managed to catch two Northern Pike on it. I have seen a large school of baby crappie hanging around the marina and wanted to see if any bass were near. Long story short, I had to wacky rig the lizard (because of the pike) and was burning/twitching it on the surface like a top water bait and this tiny largemouth bass came out of no where and attacked it. I managed to catch him, but didn't really hook him... lol

Fishing has been tough lately (at the marina). "Common Theme" I've seen is minnows / blue herrings in the shallows but no bass of any size anywhere... only a few large pike (which might be taking over), and with 5+ ft of visibility believe me I have looked!

Ya I like quality for sure but quantity dont hurt either.

I am at almost 50 fish so far this year with over 10 fish > 3 lbs.. most of the bigger fish on spinnerbaits.

This is an approximate since I take pictures and videos and I have not yet renamed and categorized them which I usually do end of season in winter.

..but June is when I usually catch most of the big'uns and lots on topwater cigars & frogs.. so wooohooo lookin forward to that! (lickin of chops / rubbin my hands / knee slappin' woohoo)

Bass # 13 - 23.

June 05, 2014 (~3:30pm - ~8:00pm)

I had a long work week and only planned to fish for a few hours... I fished around the marina till about 5:30pm and only managed to catch one small Largemouth bass that was 7 & 1/4'' 04oz...

Bass_013.jpg

I knew the fishing should be better... so changed my mind and decided I would head out in the boat. (I needed to test it out anyway after painting the bottom to fix some small leaks.)

I didn't think much on where to go, It was bluebird sky with minimal clouds & wind so I decided to hit up some docks that I haven't fished yet this year. After just a few casts, I hooked into my first fish... and seconds later... I GOT MY FIRST EVER DOUBLE UP!

Double_Up.jpg

I managed to find a good school of Smallmouth, and was catching them on every cast. Once I stopped getting bit, I changed to a Jig & Trailer and picked up another nice fish close by...

Bass_016_020_Post_Image_003.jpg

I kept fishing with the Jig & Trailer and hooked 3 more nice fish before it got dark and I decided to head home...

Bass_021_023_Post_Image_004.jpg

Then just after my best day fishing so far this year, as Murphy's Law would have it, I had vehicle problems that put it in the shop, which prevented me from fishing for an entire week+ after that day. lol

Probably approaching 20 landed now....techniques, presentations and location have improved for me substantially over this time last year.  Caught my first 4 fish on drop shot today from shore....though none of the fish were anything special today.  20" LMB, one of my first catches of the year, is still the best on the season for me.  Still waiting for my first t-rig catch and still waiting for this year's first froggin' catch, getting many to snap at them over the muck but none hooked.  My PB (in the avatar) was from froggin'.

Fully expect to get my first smallie of the year (and then some) next weekend while on vacation.

fishing user avatarWolfyBrandon reply :

Bass # 37 - 50

June 23, 2014 (~3:30pm - ~9:30pm)

Wow... It doesn't take long to remind me why I love topwater baits! I first started fishing with the T-Rigged Lizard, Bandit Squarebill, and the Bomber Fat Free Shad, but found my success with that combination has slowed down a bit. I changed from the Bandit Squarebill to a Heddon Super Spook Jr and the fish just came Alive! I found multiple casts with the Fat Free would yield nothing, and only a few walks of the Spook Jr. would get an instant surface strike. I would do a "One-Two Punch" tactic where if they missed the spook I would toss the T-Rigged Lizard and let it sink to the bottom. Twitch it a few times and usually they would have it. This worked several times, but if I ever followed it up with the crankbait they would never touch it. Soon it wouldn't matter though... because I ended up making a bad cast when trying to launch it out there... The crank somehow hit the side of the boat around 100mph while casting, and spooled my baitcaster to the point where it was out of action for the rest of the trip. It hit so hard it chipped a large piece off the bill of the crank.  :cry4: Oh well, a few casts with the spook, fish or two later and I was over it.  :wink1: Sometimes I found the fish would completely ignore the Lizard too and only go for the spook. Things I noted while on the water were that I found a small frog swimming on the surface which could hint to the topwater bite, as well as on my last trip I found multiple fish with a throat full of bugs. A few of the fish I caught during this trip however had baitfish in their throat (one looked like a blueback) so it's interesting that I got 0 hits on the crank (only managed to fish it probably 1-2 hours though. When eventually the lizard got chewed up, I changed to a T-Rigged Fluke (thinking of the baitfish) but had no luck on it (by that time it was already getting dark and didn't have much time to fish it.) Probably my best day fishing so far this year, caught a few decent smallies on topwater, and fish # 48 had beautiful color to it....

15 of 20 fish this summer are on weightless senko, the other 5 were dinks. First year trying senko and I see why my old man always whooped me growing up.

I pulled out 11 fish tonight. That brings me over 50 bass for the year at 54! I was so excited at 50 bass. The 4 extra pretty much sealed the deal for tonight being a great night fishing with my wife. She caught 2 and 1 got off the hook. She is up to 3 this year. Her rod/reel turned into a rat's nest and while I was trying to untagle it, she stole my rod to keep casting, It was really cool to see. I love a woman who can have fun catching fish.

fishing user avatarTeam9nine reply :

The past several years, I've averaged between 1,500 - 2,500 bass per year. This year I promised myself I wouldn't track bass so that I could try some new stuff without worrying about catch rates and numbers. If I track, I feel like I'm always in a competition, and it alters the way I fish, as well as what I fish for. Just the way I am, I guess. Since I'm not tracking this year, it's allowed me to do more multi-species fishing than usual, so that has been fun, too.
