This question may get no answers at all, but I get curious at some of your screen names. What is the story behind them. Some are self explanatory. A lot are not. Why did you choose the name you have?
Mine, Hootibenji, well, in grade school I had a friend, whom we all thought looked like a cross between an owl and Benjamin Franklin, hence, Hootiebenji. My name is in memory of my little buddy.
Hootiebenji
I am one of the self explanatory ones! But I was a bit curious about yours.
Basshole. well I'm a bit of one minus the b. and 8190 is my birth date
One that has always peaked my curiosity is WW2farmer.

Long story about how my mother took my daughter on a little weekend vacation. My mother was on steroids at the time for some
condition and crapped her pants. Whoops. My daughter who was about 7 at the time called to tell me and ever since then I have
used CYP for everything.

Man, I wish I could find the thread started a few years ago titled something like "What's Your Handle" and was about 8 pages long of how peeps decided what their screen names should be. But anyway, it's a great topic!
I fished T's in a club for quite a few years before I got out of them and jig fishing was a great bait for me. There was quite a few years that had elapsed that, for some reason I had al but abandoned the jig. The year I joined BR was the year I rededicated mystelf to using a jig again and hence, Jigfishn10. Turned out to be the year I caught my PB, which has since been broken, but it made me wonder why I stopped using them in the first place!
Funny you brought this up Hootie, just explained mine the other day to Ron while placing a order.
When I first got into bass fishing, I was a coangler with the guy my mom was dating at the time. Not being able to fish cranks effectively at the time, along with my boaters tendancy to move a lot led to me throwing a lot of spinnerbaits. I was just learning the baitcaster the time along with a heavier mono line.
Well who likes to retie right? Not this cat. So, throwing a spinnerbait without retying= $5 bucks going splash in the lake. Learned a lot that year, but the most important was how to quickly tie a knot you trust.
McAlpine because we live on the McAlpine pool of the Ohio river, upriver of Louisville.

Started fishing a local jackpot tourney on a 10hp limit lake about 15 years ago. Everyone ran small aluminum rigs like Bass Trackers and such, all with 10hp engines. Even though we were all in small rigs, the competition (especially the bragging rights) was just as fierce as the larger tourney circuits. As a joke based on the thought of sponsorships at that level, my partner and I started calling ourselves "Team 9.9" (after the engine size we all ran) , similar to guys now who might be part of a pro-staff group such as Team Triton, Team Lew's, Team Daiwa, etc. Anyway, "Team9" stuck, and I've used a version of the nick ever since. We even got personalized plates for the tow vehicle with the name so guys would know we were on the water when they pulled into the parking lot

I was on an oldies music forum several years ago and used the screen name, "Juan Motime".

For years I raced anything with an engine. The very first racing go kart my father bought me had the number 00 on it. We raced that weekend and did well for a beginner. The next week we tried to change the number but everyone already knew me as " that new guy. 00 Jeff." So it stuck. Then when I moved up to modified cars, 00 mod was born. I have been that same handle on probably a dozen forums now.
And all this time you thought it was OO and not 00(zero zero)

Bmac31. The B is for Brian, Mac is for my last name and 31 is my old baseball number. I picked that number cause it was Mike Piazza's, my favorite ball player.

My 9 year old son is Dillion and was born in 04, some of my work pass words are Dillon04. But I thought it was really cool the that your name was spelled Dillon as well as my son's and not Dylan as most folks seem to think it should be spelled.

My son Dillon (this pic is about 2 years old):
been using bartdude since i was a kid because i loved the simpsons (and still do), too lazy to remember anything else. I get looked at funny at work when HR ask for my email lol.
Wilbur (Will) Wetline comes from a practical joke I played on a workaholic friend and his wife many years ago.
I couldn't convince my friend Ron to take some time off and go fishin', so I wrote his wife a serious-toned letter to enlist her help to get her overworked hubby out of the shop. I tried to make it sound like I was a state employed social service official whose husband had been brought to my attention by his co worker and would-be fishing buddy. I signed this bulletin, "Wilbur Wetline, Director, MA Mental Health Through Recreation Program, Fishing Division."
Note that I have shortened my name on this fine forum to "Will," wanting to sound like a serious and knowledgeable bassmaster among online anglers . . . hmmph!

one out of three right......................I'll let you figure out which one, BUT c'mon man.....you do realize ww2 was 70 years ago. It was a little before my time.
I'm a bit of a trouble maker... Always have been, always will be. Picked up the name Hooligan some 30 years ago, and it stuck.
PZ3 = Prozac360, just a random screen name with no meaning.
I live in MN, I love bass fishing = bassman, and 23 is my favorite #.
ww2farmer is a farmer I know that. Ww2? I always assumed you had a family member in ww2 or your name was William Wilbert the 2nd. If I'm correct I hope it's for the first guess.
the ww2 is in referance to a few things..........my granfather on my dad's side was a navy vet of WW2, my grandmothers brother on my mom's side was an army combat vet of the ETO. I also collect any, and everything related to the the US armed forces during WW2........uniforms, field gear, weapons, etc......for many years I also traveled the eastern part of the country doing WW2 living history events for public education. The group I belonged to is one of the few in the US that is fully sanctioned and reconized by the Veterens association of the unit they represent..........the 5th Ranger Infantry Btn. I am no longer activly envolved, it's too time consuming with the travel, it's mega expensive, and I have kind of gotten a little long in both the tooth and waist line to accuratly look the part, but I pop in to a few of the local events they do from time to time and make a fool out of myself............and the farmer..........well that's what I do. I should change it to trucker though, as it seems I do more truck driving than farming now a days.
Mine is a no brainer. Love bass fishing, and its my first name.
Two meanings:
A bass waiting to ambush in the weeds
Bass in the weeds
Fishing for bass in the weeds
Bassin the weeds
It never struck me that people would confuse my handle, but a thread the other day made me realize that some may not know it's my last name.
I know some took it for Coots as in the ducks, and yes, I had a lot of names in school such as Cootiebird etc.

I want to know SPEEDBEAD.
early I thought he might have been a welder, hence he can lay a bead with quickness..and it would fit with him being from PA ... then I found that not to be true.
Now I am leaning to the rifle/shotgun sight know as a speedbead.
so I think Mr Speedbead. needs to come clear it up for all of us....
A real creative one I am.
I used to be an avid windsurfer and there's a techinque called 'loop'. You jump off of waves and make a flip in the air with your board and sail and land on your board and keep going. I started using this handle when I first sticked one of those. And I have daughters.

My screen name is how it all started for me. On Christmas Day of 2010, my mother in law got my father in law a $5 fishing game for his wii. I played it that day and was "hooked" on fishing. I went the next day to walmart and started buying tackle. The rest is history.................

Ah no never messed much with any Fedora or CentOS, I never really had the chance to, although the temptation of sticking it to traditional platforms always looks pretty good. Our technical director at one point debated switching to a Linux base, threw around ideas about RedHat, but never went anywhere with it. The company I worked for had a president that was a man obsessed with Mac. So one day we came in and had all new MacBook Pros and dual Thunderbolt monitors. It was a sweet gig. Where I work now (and insurance company) uses all PC, but our division - mobile security platforms for agents, uses all Mac, so we're kind of the black sheep. Things move slowly there, so exploring alternative ideas outside of the Mac/PC box ain't gonna happen!
I can't remember exactly how the story goes but basically I was fishin with the wife who does not fish. She was tanning on the back deck and asked why I was so quiet. I told we had to be quiet or it would spook the fish. She said so you are like a bass ninja? Yes honey "Ima bass ninja"
My is not as fun as the others ...

Great thread Hootie. My name came from my stomping days playing college football at BYU as a wide receiver (terrible catching ability i must say though!). I was always a running back throughout high school and junior college and then Bronco Mendenhall tried to convert me to a wide receiver and i was quick, great at football, but horrendous as a wide receiver! It is NOT for everyone at the division one level, much easier to catch the ball in junior college i must say. That's my story and i am sticking to it. Anywho, i came up with some funny juking moves in the beginning of practice and made funny names for each move such as the shake'n'sheide, the sheidelight, and the shimmy. The shimmy involved a bobble head move that always got the coach yelling at me when i was not taking my warmups seriously. If any of you get bored and want to see a funny song skit i created for Bronco Mendenhall and being on the scout team early on, here is a link. Shake'n'bake

Since we're sharing today. My screen name is a double entendre with a story of course. It all started quite some time ago in a tournament. Well, after a tournament to be exact. I had a poor showing with less than a limit which caused me and my partner to miss getting a check, naturally. My partner said if we had a F*^$#%$G Limit, we would have cashed. I replied with, "yup, a flippin limit", but not in those exact words. Of course, I also like to flip n pitch, hence the double entendre.

Childhood nickname I hated as a kid that now gets used by a few family members. If ya can't beat em, join em right?
Man I hope Ghoti checks in on this thread. I know his story, but I will let him tell it. It is a great one.
More than 20 years ago, I was competing in a sport where nicknames were sometimes bestowed upon you by the other competitors. It was not something that you chose for yourself. There were names like Hurricane Bob, MadDog, Flash, etc. I ended up with "Goose." I wish I could say that it came from the Goose character in the movie TopGun but I can't....
Lotta Geese around on the various forums so I had to add something to Goose to register on most boards. So, 52 is my birth year (1952).
I have long been accused by friends & family of spending too much time outside. Fishing, camping, climbing, hiking, kayaking, sky diving, etc...its jus what i do
I make a living working with water and I spend my spare time around water. I figured waterlogged would be appropriate

I fish for snook everyday year round, just about my favorite fish to catch.

Whether I'm in a boat or fishing from shore, the first thing I usually do is start casting parallel to the bank.
None of the neighborhood kids with whom I played backyard football wanted to cover the 6th grader who was six feet tall. Kritter is a nickname Ive picked up over the years because people always pronounce my last name that way and it stuck, and Im always chasing some kinda critter whether it be huntng or fishing, hence the get(er) part.
Mines a play on words. I enjoy waterfowl hunting in the fall and our best hunts are usually during or before foul weather. So its along the lines of foul weather brings fowl to the skies.

Maico was the name of a German made MotoCross Bike (motorcycle) I raced with back in the day.
Well mine is kind of self explanatory. Right after a cast, I love to feel a fish just blast it, especially a topwater!
My first name is Bass and my last name is Whipper so I shortened it to make it easier to say. Rolls off the tongue better that way.
I used to shoot a bow & arrow. While not any record setter, I was one of the better shooters at the local archery shop where folks used to come to shoot, hang out, and tell stories...ALL of which were true
A younger boy and his brothers started coming to the shop to learn to shoot. I gained a fan in the youngest boy, and he called me shootermcbob...which he explained was because I was such a great archer ( I am NOT, never was)...I would like to think it was because I was nice to the boy and helped him learn to shoot.

My name is simple. I started fishing and didn't have very much luck with most lures because I didn't know how to use them. Dad suggested Roostertails, which I though were stupid looking at the time and didn't resemble anything a fish would eat. But I bought a few and tried them. They were cheap baits so I didn't worry about using them or losing them in areas where other lures snagged and broke off. Since I was casting them into brush and bumping rocks with them I started to get bit more often. Soon, I was fishing these more than any other bait. Now, I use other stuff much more but I still always keep one of these tied on. In my tackle bag they get their own box. I always buy them in quantities of 3 per size and color. One for me, one for a friend if I start getting nailed on mine and he isn't, and one for a spare in case one is lost or there is a third guy with us.
I also used to go by the screen name, "the great brown rooster", which was in reference to the pumpkin seed color that was rumored to be so good. They all catch fish but in the beginning I had more confidence in this color than anything else. But I have had a day where color didn't matter, and every time I caught a fish I changed baits to see if I had one that wouldn't work. I went through every color in the box, and back then I had a lot more. Pinks, oranges, purple, and others. Every single color caught a fish that day. They must have just been very aggressive. These were white bass. Since then I've thinned down the selection to just what you see, the primary fishing colors of chartreuse, white, and firetiger, and some naturals such as black, brown, and green, and the blank spots are making room for different sizes of the same colors I already have here. At one time this box had over 100 in it. Bottom row, second from left, is an experimental bait I made from a blue fox blade, a paper clip forming the wire, a glass bead, a treble hook, and a worm sinker I powder coated. Haven't caught a fish on it yet but it casts and retrieves well.
Ugh, so many great stories behind their names. I seem like an under achiever here.
My first name is Woody, and I like fishing crankbaits.
I hope I didn't ruin any Final Jeopardy answer with that.
Who ever said explaining your screename on Intros has the right idea. Great thread!!!
Is it just me, or does anybody else feel like they've waited years for a chance to explain their screen name?
When I was a kid, my brother and our friends would frequent the trampoline. We split up into "trampoline teams", and I guess because we thought we looked funny or something, my team called itself the Flying Monkeys. It stuck with me, and my first internet username was Flyingmonkie. I use an "ie" and not "ey" because the correct spelling had already been taken. It's stuck for almost two decades.
Tight lines!
The wife and I have been babysitting for some 14 years and all of those little ones refered to me as PapaJoe. Now my Grandson has picked up the handle and rarely calls me grandpa. The 222 comes from playing roulette. The first time I played the number two hit three times in a row. Like bassin', I was hooked.

Good story. I'm a BYU grad.
I guess mine is boring. I've been in the magazine business for a long time. Many positions have some type of editor in the title. I'm into bass fishing. It helps that I was the first editor at the magazine BassWest when it launched in the 90s.

At first glance I thought you were holding the world record crappie in your avatar pic
Pretty self explanatory here
Missouri
Male
Birthyear
Blue-I'm a LEO
basser-I'm a bass fisherman
86-the year I was born
I LOVE fishing ponds, hence the name Pondlvr.
i have been playing guitar for 21 years and some 8 years ago i was jamming with some guys in a thrash/death metal project and we each came up with a list of band and song names that we would like to use and slain empire was on my list for band names. we didnt end up using it at all and i just started using it in my email address and it kind of went from there.

Shooter = Archer Bob is my name. Not sure where the Mc came from...he was probably a McDonalds fan!!!
Cool story
Weber is my last name. In college I worked in ski/board/bike shops and literally everyone called me Weber. One day I was walking out of the shop onto the sales floor and my buddy yelled out to stop, another did an MC Hammer spoof "Stop... Webertime" the shop full of customers and staff giggled. Then I did that shuffle dance thing he did in his video and the whole building erupted in laughter. It stuck.
The first new car I owned was a 1968 Rambler. Had a CB radio in it and needed a handle, (this is the Rambler, KALJ7431 down and on the side). I've used the name every since then.
Mine is pretty obvious. I'm from Wisconsin and I'm a guide.
Mine came from the 1st "bass boat"? I ever owned. Yes, I know StarCraft didn't make a bass boat at that time (1968), but I didn't care. I made my 16' run-a-bout into to a Cal delta fishing/bass boat. A lot of work went into that boat and had a few of the pros at the time like what they saw. I even fished my 1st few tournaments out of it! We own the 1st ever high school fishing tourney with it. Still have the side name plate off that boat.

I'm from Mass, but I live in florida
whitwolf:
whit= whitnel nc, a small town I lived In when I got my first computer.
wolf: N.C. State Wolfpack.
As a 32year old I played a lot of video games 20 years ago and one of my favorites was duke nukem. as a spoof I used the screenname of "Duke scrotum" for everything. as this country got more and more sensitive there was a lot of websites/games that were getting offended by the word scrotum so I had to choose a new name.
I was watching a program on the discovery channel about wolves and they kept talking about the alpha male and it stuck.
I got mine from a friend from when I first started to bass fish for two reasons. 1) I didnt have any idea what I was doing and let a LOT of bass swallow the hook before I would set the hook, so a lot of fish died when I pulled the hook out the gullet, and 2) I also ate most of the bass I caught... so he would call me a fish murderer and 71 is the year I was born.
It's Just Me...

Great Topic, I'm really enjoying the posts.
I'm not claiming to be P-Diddy, Puff-Daddy, whatever the rap star and "Sean John" clothing mogul goes by this week..... My name just happens to be the same and I'm not creative.
I chose mine because it is a discreet play on my inner psych nerd. It's for rational cognition, which is the premise for many psychotherapy theories. Rational beliefs lead to rational feelings and behavior. Cognitive behavioral therapy is built upon this idea and it's a form of treatment that has been proven effective many times over. I'm sure that's not what most people think of when they see RatCog.

You're right, wasn't thinking that at all
I know what you're thinking: Arkansas...mobile home aka "trailer", but actually that's not it. My dad and I worked together. He loved campers and RV's so our buyer at Ally bank always called him RV. After I bought a camper our Ally buyer called me Trailer as in not quite as big as an RV since I was the son. I didn't choose it and it stuck because other buyers that I never had met referred to me as trailer when I called so I ran with it!
When I started bass fishing in the 90's my favorite lure was a Texas rigged worm ( a plum Berkley power worm). I joined a website called "probass" and when Berkley stopped making the plum color, reached out to members of "probass" to find me some of that color. Within a week, I had 3 guys who had found bags of a hundred plum power worms and sent them to me.. Just had to stay with plumworm. Still have about 100 of them and they still work great on the Mississippi pools 9/10.
I wish it had some awesome secretive meaning Brian.
It's simply an old iteration of the Terminator spinnerbait. It's the bait I caught my first REAL largemouth on and I've been using it so long, it's just kinda stuck.
thanks God....... I can sleep at night! lmao
Mine has been my handle since 2000 on yahoo messanger. Not creative just basscatcher cause well duh and 8 cause I was and am a huge dale jr fan. It is 89 on some other sites cause that was my racing number on line for awhile. And its 23 on other sites cause thats the number I actually raced with.

Name your kid FifthWheel and you're all set
being Native American i chose something related to my tribe. The Haliwa-Saponi tribe out of North Carolina. Haliwa is a combination of the main two counties of NC that my tribe is from, Halifax-Warren counties. the name actually used to be Haliwar-Saponi, but the "r" was later dropped. Saponi is basically the bloodline and it means Red Earth People, so thats where i get Red Earth from....
Simple enough my first name and last initial. I'm not creative and like to keep things simple.
Dam is my initials. 0007 was supposed to be 007, a typo a long time ago on my aim messenger name so I just kept it going all these years.

It's either Fifth Wheel or Pop-Up...then the grandchild can be called Tent. Pretty soon when you get to great-grandchildren we'll have to use Cardboard or Tarp.
Badge number
My home lake is super shallow. I've been flippin and pitchin since 1980/81. I still have my original Fenwick Dee Thomas Flippin Stik. My buddies got to the point that when I caught a few fish, they didn't even bother to ask how I caught them and said, it was probably flippin and pitchin. I actually had sticker made for the back window of my truck that said, yup, Flippin & Pitchin. The guys in the club thought it was funny and it stuck. The ironic part is I would rather crank structure for small mouth.
I dont even think I know what mine means... Started about 6 years ago on a freezing cold morning striper fishing along the beach when my buddy yelled the wind was Koofy Smacking him. No idea where it came from and that kid has the personality of a ping pong ball but it stuck
Interesting posts... my screen name is just my initials and badge number.
Like 4 years ago I decided to join this site, so I tried to come up with a cool name. This is what I came up with. It's kind of funny because there is no heat in Wisconsin . I actually use this screen name for a lot of other things. so thanks BassResource!
Before he passed away my uncle was was a trucker and avid fisherman, and his handle was sundance so thats what i picked in memory of him.
Was born in Omaha and lived there for quite a few years as a young lad and am a die hard husker fan but I consider me growing up in Iowa. 2nd grade on.... Also 28 was my baseball number for 10 years.
Ranndom=Nickname i picked up years ago
Undead=Hollywood Undead, a band that really shaped me into who i am today.
RanndomUndead has been something thats stuck with me since sometime around 2008

A Nash Rambler? Well, coulda been worse. Could have been a Gremlin, or worse yet, a Metropolitan. Gremlin would have been a cool screen name though. Rambler is a fine screen name too.

My previous Screen Name was Bassboy107 meaning I'm s boy and I like bass fishing. 107 was a random number.
My screen name now is NH Stream Slippin', which is kind of explanatory. I'm in NH and I am notorious for slipping/falling into ponds, streams, or any type of body of water you can think of, LOL.
W= initial in my name.
Dinarte = last name,
I have one of the simple names,
Mine is a play on the random silliness of the English language.
Pronounced as follows;
gh as in rough
o as in women
ti as in nation
Wish I could claim credit, but George Bernard Shaw beat me to it by several decades.

That's what everybody calls me at the Roadtrips.
Mine is alittle self explanitory. I came from an outdoors ranching family, riding and rodeo was my first passion. Learned how to fish from the bank on Shinge Creek where it ran alongside my Grandparents ranch. Because I wanted to cast to where the bigger fish hung out, I would get my trusty pony, and ride him out to where the water touched his belly. I could reach the other side of the bank easier, and we would kinda "troll" around to different spots. My parents always knew after school, if my fishing pole and pony were missing, I was out fishing. Fishing Cowgirl.
Where have you been?
Good to have you back. Are you still considering joining the gang for the RoadTrip?

I lived in Colorado when Mel Gibson came online. I was a hunter, not a fisherman at the time.
I wore a lot of leather, holstered a Python 357 Magnum and carried serious knives. I liked
cowboy hats, but was one of the first to sport the Indiana Jones style. Some of my buddies
started referring to me a The Roadwarrior and it stuck.

Roger,I totally agree! There are some seriously big bass way up on Shingle Creek. Our family probably ate a record book bass in 1971. Dad caught it Jigger pole fishing from a john boat. a 2lber ate the porkrind frog and then a monster bass ate it! I remember looking at that huge fish which completely filled up a big green Coleman Cooler, with the tail of the other bass sticking out of it's mouth. We didn't think of weighing it or if we did I don't remember. I was about 11. Mom and I have been looking for the photograph or at least a negative of it.

When my son was born there were some complications at birth. He was a big boy right from the start and during his birth there was an epic tug of war....a struggle between him and the Dr. The doctor ended up winning.
One of the many injuries to my son was that all muscles on the left side of his neck were torn away from the base of his skull & chest. Surgeries & physical therapy started at 5 days old. For the first 6 or 7 months his neck was weak & crooked.
Due to our schedules (and the amount of pain & tears from both my son & wife) I attended and did most of the physical therapy with my boy. He and I quickly got known by the therapists as Team CrookedNeck......
Mines pretty simple also Memphis Firefighter.. Great stories though..
When worm fishing with either a Texas Rig or Carolina Rig, it goes like this:
1) feel the bite.
2) "weigh" the line to sense if their is any kind of life on the other end.
3) Cross their eyes.
By the way, it's a fast three count!
I have a 03 sportsman (sp) 500 quad.
The name cadman started out two ways. For a long time I have designed sheetmetal parts. Then cad came around instead of drawing on the board. So I started with AutoCad, then switched jobs and used CadKey, which at that time I also used a cad package called Profold. After that, I used a package called Metalsoft and now Solidworks. So I have used a lot of cad packages throughout the years. Part 2 came from as I used cad for my daily job, I got into designing some molds using cad for pouring lead jigs. These were then created into bass jigs which to this day I make and sell as cad designed custom jigs, which I had to shorten because of too many words. Hence the name cadman, from work and fishing.
