I spent ruffly $400 last year on fishing equipment, most of what I spent went for poles , reels , lures and line ! (other than gasoline) What was your biggest expense during last 12 months ?
I have a collection of my receipts for all my fishing equipment. No way am I going to add them up now, perhaps later in life so I can be shocked. Far as per month, this July my wife and I spent over $1000 because we wanted more reels/rods/tackle for us.
I spent about way to much.............................. but I'm an addict and I admit it... they say that's the first step
I'm gonna guesstimate that I spend maybe a couple hundred bucks a year on lures, line, hooks, and such. I just bought my first baitcasting combo this year. Just got a cheap one to learn on so that was another $80 bucks. Don't have a boat so the only other expense I really have is gas to and from the lake but since there are like 3 or 4 of them within 20 minutes, I really don't use too much gas.
Never thought about it, being responsible I never bought anything I couldn't afford. In addition to tackle boat ownership is as much an expense as anything else, has to be counted. When I was in Michigan my boat was at a marina on Lake St. Clair, insurance, maintenance, dry dock in the winter is all part of it, not being a bass boat it was used for other outings as well. Changing my residence to an inland lake, didn't use the primary boat for fishing, I prefered a rowboat with a small OB.
Moving to Florida 10 years ago I brought nothing with me for fishing, no way could I estimate what I've spent. I have everything I need but not everything I want, so it never stops.
I spent roughly $4000 in the last 10 months on tackle and 5 new dobyns champion and dx series rods along with lews reels and a shimano core. Since I'm 16 and a non boater my money pretty much goes towards fishing gear strictly. My biggest expense was my dobyns dx 744 with a shimano core 101mg. This is an addiction but at least the money is going towards something good and not towards drugs and alcohol.

Geeze man! What do you do for a living?! That's like 4 months rent for me!
I plead the 5th.
If you include boats and maintenance, rods, reels, baits, fuel, vacations, etc. I'm sure I've spent well over 100k during 40 years of fishing with the bulk being spent during the last 20. So I guess approx. 5k+ annually.
I forgot. Add a few boat pullers into the mix and we're talking another 75k. All for a stupid little fish
No way you could get me to admit that and have the chance of my wife seeing that on here!!!

Jeff
Heck I made money buying fishing gear, right
Starting from scratch is tough on the wallet.... but don't buy cheap, you'll end up buying it twice.
Don't know..don't care. If spending your money on something you love that makes you happy, then the amount doesn't matter to me. All in all, it's a lot and I'd rather not know the number. Besides, my better half could hold leverage if she knew.
I'm glad my money is spent on fishing and not in the bars or chasing tail anymore. I'd kill to get the money back from my 20's of doing that stuff. I could have 3 times the amount of gear if not more!!!!!!
Last 12 months wasn't so bad maybe a thousand , last 3 years around $15,000
I fished both salt and fresh so good surf gear can get expensive.
Like above if you figure out the trips it gets real expensive real quick. I'd guess around 5k this year. Most of that cost is in gas/oil for the truck and boat. Boat maintenance is also another big one.
I would say $100 to $200 in lures/plastics and terminal tackle. Then another $100-$200 on rod/reels this year.
Apparently I need a new profession to keep up with you guys....

LOL.... that's why i've been stockpiling for the last few months. i'm getting married in november so I've got to get it now....
Since I save a vast percentage of the money I make my dad probably spends close to 2 or 3 grand a year on me and him....
I spend around 300 with the money that I make that isn't saved for college...

Ok
That made me LOL with your avatar
it's too late for us old folks but maybe the young kids will listen to good advice.
normally for me i'd say i spend 2,500 - 3,000 , but this year i've bought 4 dobyns rods and 3 shimano chronarchs among alot of other things. i need to chill out on the spending but i'm not married yet and don't have kids so i figured i will buy up all my fishing equipment now.
More than I spend on the wife.
I'd rather not think about this question!
Hey Bmlum415, Glad to hear your addicted to Bass fishing and not drugs and alcohol With so many youth making bad choices , glad to read your message > I hope you are able to invite many teens to go fishing with you on your trips ! Keep it up and I hope you get a lot more Bass
Since Nicole and Taylor both love fishing, we spend somewhere around 15K per year if you include our family vacations which are always on a lake somewhere in the South East US.
4 grand on fishing, what you selling, lol na about 500 a year.
Hey Buzzfrog , got lots of beans down here in Mexico how many you need ? Bahahaha ...lol .. were not that far a part on spending ...most of my spending was 3 years ago when I 1st started bass fishing .. Now its just learning all the new Technic's
I don't even wanna know...
having working parents that support you fishing as well as saving birthday and Christmas money helps out a lot. I admit I'm spoiled but that's all I spend money on pretty much.On 8/2/2013 at 7:58 PM, Tuckahoe Joe said:Geeze man! What do you do for a living?! That's like 4 months rent for me!

Sounds good to me Keep them reals oiled up good and expect the Big one to latch on..oh and don't forget the net Bmlum415 !
Guessing here, but I would say around $4,000. That is with a borrowed boat from my dad. I have a 14 year old who is highly skilled and thinks little about grabbing $5 Hack Attack jigs and $7 spinnerbaits, whether he or I pay for them. It is usually me paying though. I figure I have him for just a few more years in the house and if his portion of the cost is $2,000 in total, that is cheap insurance on keeping him out of trouble and serves as an incentive for him to do well in school and get a high paying career. He recognizes how much things costs and normally buys his own rods, reels and quite a few of his lures. One day we were filling up the boat and truck and a beater truck pulled in and put 1 gallon of gas in his truck and then buzzed off. He couldn't figure why someone would do that. I told him "because he's broke".
We are two hours from Guntersville so we figure if we spend a night or two in a one star hotel, we will save truck gas. The sweet spot for us seems to be two nights at the hotel = three days of fishing. We save about 30 or 35% that way, so the third day costs nothing, not to mention the savings of wear and tear on the truck. One trip to and from the lake vs three trips is gas/truck wear savings. Just have to allocate the days.
Great question. I have no idea. It's not like I spend whenever I like. Everyone in my family knows I love to fish, so during the holidays and my birthday I load up on BPS gift cards. My CC is also a BPS card so I load up on points. Last year I did spend a lot $$ on 3 reels but this year not much. I hold on to my gear for a while.
Smart thinking BassinLou !
I have not spent much this year on fishing. The only reason is that a few years ago my local tackle shop had a huge deal when they were remodeling there store. Most of the stuff was marked down 50% or more so I decided to stock up on everything that I would need. I however do buy line and hooks ever so often and I do also pick up a few bag of plastics and the occasional rod & reel.
I don't even want to think about how much money I spend on fishing in a year, but I'm glad to read that I'm not crazy and dropping four digits on fishing gear is actually a normal behavior.
Between lures, line, hooks, weights, multiple state licenses, club memberships, tournament/derby entry fee's etc. I spend a good chunk of money. This year was the worst because I upgraded all of my equipment. GC's on the holiday's and birthday's served me well, so take $150 off of my out of pocket cost. Also when family went on vaca this year they came back from BPS with about 20 lures for me.
20 free lures and $150 in giftcards aside, it's safe to say that I've probably spent 2k on fishing gear this year, not including gas/food.
What a loaded question. I have more than I will use in my lifetime.
I have two 30-something sons and together we spend five figures/year or more on gear. Throw in travel and the boat and trucks and tournament fees, etc. and it would be scary to know. I keep all the gear receipts in a box, and the box is quite full!
Funny, I have storage bins full of plastics etc. and one of my sons will come in and show me what he just bought ... and then I have to tell him I already have a bunch of those.
That's like asking a woman how much she spent on shopping. no where near going to get the truth..You want the truth for me It starts with an A and ends with LOT!
Had to laugh when I read your message ! That's happened to me more than once too

Some of the receipts I have seem to fade over time, on my more major purchases I'll scan the receipt and save it in my computer, also pretty easy to find.
Everythnig?
Tournaments, repairs, gas, oil, upkeep, tackle?
About $2,000 give or take a few pennies.
If there is any major work on the engine or boat then you can head towards $3,000.
Way tooo much
I don't know that I want to look at the tally, I would bet it would depress me.
Not including gas and food I would estimate about $1,000 in the last year. I'd like to say that it won't be repeated but I have been thinking of adding a few new rods and reels to the mix.
On 8/4/2013 at 8:23 AM, BuckMaxx said:That's like asking a woman how much she spent on shopping. no where near going to get the truth..You want the truth for me It starts with an A and ends with LOT!
Not quite. The woman would respond telling you how much she saved when she went shopping. You will never know what she spent, only what she saved. How much did I save on my fishing gear? I haven't got a clue.
Let's just say that when I die I hope my wife does not sell all my fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it
I'm well into 4 digit territory so far this year and there's no end in site...
I don't have a boat so I miss all of that cost. I spend most on line, tackle, and baits. Probably in the range of $200, and that is not counting gas.
counted up some receipts 2400 in 3 months... mostly gas, baits, rods, reels, and a kayack... oh yeah and my Grizzly straight
Hmmmm......lets just say between the boat and the few other rigs I have picked up in the last year, it might have cost me a divorce if my wife found out, lol.
I just spent about 3k this year so far playing catch up on stuff I should bought as I used my supply up and I'm buying up the older colored crankbaits that are being discontinued too.. every time I put on one of these older colors I catch fish.
I'm putting together a $250 order for trailer hooks, rattles for all the plastic, copolymere line, spinner bait skirts etc.
The town just purchased the water shed land with the lake that's never been open for fishing. I hope they have electric motors only. I want to be ready the minute they open it up. Plus my back property line borders the water shed property. I never had fishing so close. But this is also bear country too.
I also shop sales and clearances too. If I save $$ I can buy more.
Plus I keep my kids supplied with plenty of fishing stuff too.
I don't spend anything now. My Doctor put me on the patch.
Hootie
Generally speaking, I don't usually buy anything unless I am getting a better than average deal, at least for the larger purchases from rods/reels and greater. So I don't think of it as how much I spent, but rather how much I saved.
I just spent $45 tonight on some terminal tackle.. and I spend ATLEAST $20 every week during the open water season. In the winter when I'm bored I run to Gander or Cabelas "just to pick up a few things". usually if i'm planning a full day on the water i'll run to the store the night before and buy some new plastics or something. So do the math, and don't tell me!
When comes to a recreational pastime that I really enjoy like fishing I do not evaluate the return on my investment. No question I'm always looking for good deal first, but if I want something enough I'm buying it regardless of the price.
To esitmate this will be difficult for me. Since I have taken up throwning swimbaits my expenses have gone thru the roof but does it really matter if you enjoy what you are doing.
So far this year I have spent over $1600.00 dollars and plan to purchase two new reels that just came on the market. That means two new rods for the reels and etc.
around $700 without including fuel, maint.,food or lodging.
I spend money
about 500 a year
I bought and refurbished my boat this year, which cost $3000 with anothe $1000 on th horizon. However I don't buy a boat every year (or every 5 even). In a normal non-new-boat year I spend about $1000-1500 for fuel/oil for my boat and tow vehicle and between 200-500 on gear/tackle. So, call it 1200-2000 a year. Still way cheaper than a country club membership. He'll, about the cos of a municipal golf membership. This doesn't count if I go to Canada or somewhere really far away.
about $ 1000 a year
1,000/year
1500/year little over $100 a month
Very little until I started fishing more and reading this forum. I still have the rods/reels & tackle since my early teens so zero until my daughter was young, then expenditures weren't much more than a cheap Zebco for her and nightcrawlers/shiners from the bait shop. Oh yeah, a license for me....
Now her friends are top of the list I fish alone, or with a friend from college, so since 2011 I'd say a couple hundred or more per year in new gear ' I really needed'.
Next might be a boat.....
Boat costs, tackle and equipment expenses add up. Travel costs to some really cool lakes gets pricey as well. Probably spend anywhere between $12-$18 thousand per year. Also drop this much on duck and deer hunting as well. At least I can claim some expenses as client development and take deductions o schedule C each year.
I spend about $800 a month. what that includes all the boat maintenance and all my hunting stuff too
As much as my bank account will allow, haha. this year i have bought a new trolling motor for my boat, a few rods and reels, enough soft plastics and lures to sink my boat, plenty of gas haulin my boat around ( even to work in case the weather is right and i get "sick"." and i also added a kayak to my fleet to hit some backwater honey holes. So i would say at least 3k, and headed to bass pro again tomorrow just for good measure. ..... come to think of it, i should really slow down......next year
Too much. I don't know. I don't want to know. My wife has suspicions....

It really works all my friends are all getting married and having kids and i am like look at my sweet boat!!
I have always wanted to keep a better track of what I do spend in a year’s time, but I always forget until half way through the year. I would really like to know how much gas I spend just in my boat (not included truck) this year I went a little crazy because I got my truck and boat both paid off so I have extra cash laying around. I bought a new graph two new reels and rods. Tournaments fees and lures the list can just go on and on. I would say I hit 5k already this year and planning to spend more. This winter I am going to get my set redone and I am also planning to fish as a boater next year so I have been making a list of things I “need”
I bought a fair share the past year, although I had to start from scratch in 2012 (1st year starting bass fishing). I'm pretty much set with rods and reels. Although I still look... Like Jeff, I'm not going to post that!
Before Swimbaits: $500-$800 a year.
After- well, I have spent about $300 already and I got into swimbaits 2 months ago.
God id be afraid to know how much i spend. I know ive spent at least 3000 easy, this summer alone. but fishing is pretty much what i live for so im ok with it.
I am adding an extra 300 per year for the maintenance of boat and motor ! The restoration for the Crawdad this year was 500 but was worth it
bait monkey hasn't been around I must of spoiled him good for a few months!
Earlier this summer I sorted out a soft tackle box so I could fit all my Canada baits in it. This required relocating a huge gob of soft plastics of various shapes and colors that I rarely use. (I mean to use them, I just never do). This is not including the other soft tackle box I have stuffed to the proverbial gills with more recent purchases. Now, more recently, I have almost gotten sucked into buying musky and big pike baits, too. God help me! It's probably been good that the weather has been too hot to fish much or my spending would probably go through the roof.
Actually, compared to what I'm reading on this thread, my purchases have been relatively modest. Just wish I had more opportunities and locations to use what I already have. I tell myself-when I retire.
Not much since I also play golf. I don't purchase many lures since I build some, and refurbish the ones I already have. I will buy hooks, earth worms, and frozen baits, but that's about it.
I'd have to say in 2013 I spent $250 or so. It was the first year I got serious about fishing and did it alone because my daughter reached the age where she was more interested in hanging with her friends than Dad.
2014 was a different story: 3 kayaks and more casting & spinning setups than I really need (plus associated tackle to go along with it) emptied my checkbook by a good $3,500 or more.
So far 2015's only seen the cost of my sporting license. If I stay busy with side-work, my money will hopefully be spent on traveling to new waters to fish. Won't make any predictions on that cost right now.
I bought five rods and reels in the last two months, so about $1400 on rods and reels, and probably $700 on baits over the last four or five months. I need to build up more websites and domains to support my obsession and pay my tuition, and this is my last semester in college, so I can't wait when Im done paying for my classes, then it all goes to fishing and other investments!!!!!!
About 500 last year but I got a boat load of money waiting for the Classic though
Gas, airfare, Hotels, tackle, guides etc. Fishing 200+ days a year the gas and hotels is what kills you. $10,000+. Brian.
Too much but not enough. I think last year under $1,000 in all including gas for the boat.
This year though.. So far I'm at over $700 and the season isn't close to starting.
Around 800 to 1000 this last year
2014 was a crazy year for me. I got 8 New rods and reels. NEver more than 1 a year before that. Sooooo... That raised my average quite a bit...
I spend between "none of your business" and " I don't want my wife to find out".
For those of us traveling anglers with boats, it is astronomical when you factor in ALL related costs. I could probably make a close guess, but I won't and don't want to know!
Lots, I'm afraid to add it up!
I don't wanna even guess at a number. Lol

I completely agree. I do not want to know. It is all relative to income, but a big number in any case.
Roughly $500.00 dollars i'd say.
This included 2 rods 2 reels and tackle.
This year I expect it to be significantly less, maybe $200.00. That will be on line/terminal tackle/lures.
I should record this guess and see how much I actually spend.
Not all that much, I think my electric bill is larger
Roger
Kinda funny to look back at my response a year and a half ago when this thread started. I have since bought a small boat and tow vehicle and gotten into some of the high end gear. My number has gotten a lot higher now lol.
Wow the level's here are all over the map. I am in the I don't want to know camp as I bought a certate and a steez in the same month and that was not the worst. Us enthuseists just don't add it up because the thought might scare us!
Sometimes I hide my purchases, because I get embarrassed by how much money I spend. I'm mostly a loner when it comes to fishing related stuff within my circle of friends and family. No one really understands my obssesion, so like an addict, I tried to hide it.
Did my wife put you up to this??
2014 being a whole full year for me, I spent plenty...
Well so far this year I have spent around $200. That includes getting the reels cleaned, new lures, a new tackle bag, and some 370 boxes.
I care not to disclose this info for fear of it being used against me at a later date!
$600 or more if I purchase a new rod or reel.
Most funds go to line purchases.
So far this year im about 800 deep...two reels and the rest baits
Still need a few spool of line, a few 3700 boxes and the humminbird 899
According to my order history on TW, $2031 in the past year, just with TW...
I'm just gonna go with a resounding NOOOOO as my answer.
"$1 Bob."
On the bright side of this...
I'm thinking about showing this thread to my wife. After seeing some of the numbers you guys throw up, I'll look like Rico Suave! Guess I'm not that bad after all!!!
After buying 4 new rods and reels in 2014 I'm hoping that 2015 will be significantly cheaper.
Simple, not enough and that would be the same answer even if I spent my life savings on it
Don`t want to know for sure but the LC`s are driving the costs wayyyy up. Lost 3 of them this year already.

Oh just a few dollars here and there...

Yea, that's it, it's a hobby.

My wife and I both fish. She uses good gear also Stradic's and Sustains, and quality rods, as we both use quality gear. We usually buy 1-2 new kayaks a year which cost anywhere from $1000, to $4000 each. We fish 15 or so tournaments each a year with average entry fees being $50 a tournament per person and some tournaments upward of $250 each. We also have a full lineup of saltwater gear as well as freshwater, some serves double duty. Almost everything we buy we buy two of. We usually take 3-4 week long trips a year to the Gulf, Keys, Everglades, or just South Florida, and tournament trips are usually 2-3 days. If it's just me I can sleep in the truck, but most of the time it's both of us and I won't make her do that.
It is very expensive. I had never looked over my year's receipts until last month and last year we spent a lot of money without even realizing it, and that was only with one kayak bought last year. Right now we are looking at two new ones for this year, as we usually keep 2-3 kayaks a piece for different waters, and we've had as many as 7 at one time.
I wouldn't change a thing having my wife on almost every fishing trip that is taken. Married for almost 13years.
Too much, and it's still not enough.
Fishing has become my main hobby, so a large portion of my "fun" money goes towards it. I would say with tournaments, boat and truck costs, gas and equipment, as well as food while on the road/water... close to $15000.00...

Worth every penny
Dream: I spend a ton on fishing, but it pays for itself every year when I win the Forrest Wood Cup and Angler of the Year.
Plus, my sponsorships get me upwards of $70,000 dollars, so fishing essentially gives me my income.
Reality: HA.......I spend too much and don't get any of it back.

Congratulations, just be clear, you're getting Married - not Buried. Keep in the back of your mind if the unfortunate day ever comes, the saying "Cheaper to keep her" has more truth than poetry. Then again, there's more to life than money. Sorry for getting side tracked there. lol
With the new year and lower gasoline ...
I plan to spend a few hundred more than last year...
Putting me at 700.00...
Unless I find a little bigger motor... lol
I dont wanna talk about it... I also tend to buy from discounted sponsors, so my total is a bit lower than it "should" be.
During the fishing season i can easily go through 30 to forty dollars in tackle a week(mostly soft plastics) not to mention stocking the cooler daily with drinks and lunch charging my marine batteries nightly makes the electric bill climb. I would guestimate that i spend between 1000 to 2000 yearly and i only fish april-nov
Typically between $500-$1000 every other year. This is just tackle and gear. You can double (maybe triple) that if you include everything else, like travel, gas, food, etc....
Do to the facts at hand I will choose to plead the 5th on this topic as it may incriminate me.....oh wait I don't have a wife anymore so A LOT. I'm gonna say this last year probably up close to $5000 and that's only counting rods, reels, tackle. Yeah, I'm a proud member of The Bait Monkey Club.
Never thought about it.
I don't use too many different lures, I do go thru jig heads and jerk shads and bucktail jigs fishing saltwater. I don't lose too many lures in freshwater. I buy my fair share of braided lines, that's probably the biggest expense over the year.
Can't come up with a dollar amount, but it's managable.
i really couldnt say, but its not that much. i havent been in the market for any new reels or anything, feel i have all i need for the fishing i do. i might buy a few bags of soft plastics or a couple hard lures(i dont have to have the latest and greatest of everything), but i probably spend more on live bait for my night fishing then anything else the last couple years. i wont put a price on it, but its really not much in the big picture. i just cant see myself, atleast not right now, spending thousands a year on fishing like some of you...
In the past probably $3k to $5k a year. Lately maybe $500 to $1,000. My tackle room has more tackle than a mom and pop bait shop. When a new lure works for me I stock up on it for the fear of it being discontinued plus I give fishing tackle away to my family, friends and the little kids I meet fishing. I like to see everyone have success. Once they catch fish there hooked for life.
Don't do drugs, go fishing it's fun.
went to the Classic expo to day and spent about 400, had some really good deals
This year is going to be a new record considering it's only Feb. and I've already gone over $1000 in just new gear. I don't have a boat which is a huge gas savings but it is still in the thousands I'm sure. Fishing is my only sport now and I look at it as money well spent.
A little over 4800 in the last two years
Technically, I spend 0$ a year just cuz my parents for it. But in reality, I probably spend around 100$ a year. Most of that goes to rock bottom deals on rods and reels. I managed to get a Okuma C3-40X rod for 30$ off of amazon, when it retails for 160$ on TW. Also, RoadWarrior and Bruce424 sent me huge boxes of free baits and lures. Next year, I probably will aim for under 100$. Most of the gear I fish with is either discontinued or on clearance (Pluefger Supreme for 50$ and Okuma C3-40X for 30$).
Do you want the amount I actually spent, or the amount I told my wife I spent?
I hear it all the time: "Boy, I wish my wife liked to fish".
What they don't realize however; if my wife didn't fish my annual fishing expenditures would be Slashed In Half
Roger
I spend practically nothing -- compared to those guys who fish for marlin! I don't know why my wife can't understand this!
I spend probably more than I should, but I don't regret or feel guilty about a single cent.
The amount of money that I spend on fishing is insignificant compared to the pleasure that I derive from it. But since this is a question, I would estimate at a minimum of least 10 G's plus.

Per Year? Or Lifetime?
I probably spend about $200-$300 a year on lures and soft plastics. I also usually buy one new rod and reel around Christmas each year. That's not too bad, right?

Compared to some other guys on this forum, that isn't bad at all......

That would be per year. Let's see.... including $300-$350 in fees for every tourney, fuel for tow vehicle and boat, again maintenance for boat and motor and trailer, storage during the off season, boat insurance, a large variety of soft plastics and other baits and a few thousand yards of mono and braided line for a dozen reels or so.
I usually re-spool fresh mono for every tournament day and braid every year. But wait there is still more to go.............
Terminal tackle, motels, bad food, the odd $300 or $400 rod and reel that goes overboard because it wasn't strapped down properly while under power. So as you can see how that can all add up very quickly.
So yup, 10 G's is a fairly close yearly estimate of how much I spend on fishing.
Spent a few thousand in 2014, but that number should go down dramatically in 2015. Just got back into fishing so I was starting from scratch; all new rods, reels, fishing tackle, accessories, basically everything.
Could have gotten away for less but I tend to buy the better stuff so I don't need to replace it as often.
around $300 for tackle per year
If I'm getting a new combo then add another 300 or so.
$1.63
Hootie
About 8 grand including the new boat
Too much yet not enough.
Man, always sucks when you actually start adding it up!
If we're talking just tackle... I'd say $3,000 a year (baits, line, etc)
If we're talking how much TOTAL (Gas, Insurance, Tournaments, Hotels, etc) that all go into the cost of fishing... Hell , I don't even wanna know. Over $15,000 a year easy.

Yeah reality sometimes sucks. The money is the only downside, but you have to admit that it's worth every penny when you feel that little tap on the end of your line.
Make that every nickel, we did away with pennies in Canada a couple of years back.
Adding a extra 200.00 this year ( new seat for boat ) ... bring it up to 800.00 a year !
My addiction costs somewhere around $5000 - $8000 a year
Not as much as my wife

I'm gonna say this last year probably up close to $5000 and that's only counting rods, reels, tackle. Yeah, I'm a proud member of The Bait Monkey Club.
Fortunately I am not part of The Bait Monkey Club. Why would anyone need 2000 baits.

I constantly ask myself that same question
I'm up to 500$ for this year but with a trip to Gutersville and Pickwick on the horizon it may get up to about 600-650$
A couple dollars short of what I make in a year
1/5 of my income is designated disposable. Seeing as how fishing is my recreational mainstay, I'd say exactly 1/5 of my income.
Despite a portly sum, my fishing budget is kept manageable only through severe mental abuse. I constantly beat myself up over what I consider non essential purchases, especially when they top $100, which is about the least I am able to spend on my frequent visits to BPS. The mental abuse helps me limit my visits to two trips a month. (the other two trips are to Cabela's)
Well the 3 rods and reels I got was around 900 alone then I bought a boat for 1400. So I'm going to stop at 2300 and delete my history so queenmotorboat doesn't see
Oh and a 4th rod and reel for about 250 is incoming soon
More than I will admit to but way less than my wife thinks.
I justify my purchases by telling myself and my wife that I don't own a $60K bass boat that drinks $50 in gas to fish 6 hours. I spend as much as I can without feeling guilty. I keep a written list of things I need to get next time I'm in Academy, Cabela's or BPS...even Walmart. I have a slush savings fund that I use for bigger purchases, like kayaks, canoes, guns...That seems to keep the peace.
I probably spent $3500 last year. The time I spend out on the water with my boy is absolutely priceless though. He is only 5 and he's already catching bigger fish than me.
I blew through my budget in the first four months this year.
The wife encourages my daughter to go shopping with me every time. She talks constantly and makes me miss at least two things every time, even on a written list. The wife knows this.
I will transfer a portion of my income into my "fun" checking account for fishing and last year I spent a little under $1k.
I spend about $50 a month...
Too much. Way too much
I'm going to try to thin out the herd now by trading some things for some stuff I've always wanted to try out (spybait, etc...) instead of buying and sell the rest. Or so I've always told myself...
Since I been sick very little. I think I just spend 2k per year in the past between up grading everything
At brannans bass shop in Texas, Sieberts outdoors etc.
No boat too.
I got two new rods and reels and that was a total of 300 plus line braid in 20-50-65 mono fluorocarbon and mono plastics **** I think close to 500
Well I just spent a grand on a boat so there's that.
I don't want to know........................ lol
A lot more this year than in the last few since I just got heavily into bass fishing. 2 new rods and reels, a bunch of soft plastics, jigs, and spinnerbaits just in the past month or so with more stuff planned and probably goin shopping tomorrow. Can't get that monkey off my back.
Wow went back and looked at my current spending. I thought with the season starting "stocking up" would stop. But it is now termed "replacing". I lose a lure, so I buy 2 just in case. Or something breaking, in this case it was a rod so now I MUST replace that with something better. I said around $700, but after a new musky combo I almost added half of that.
I've got over $60k invested this year with a new boat and some new gear. On an average year I spend around $2-3K.
I upgraded my electronics on bow and console and purchased 2 new 10 foot Talons this year. With a couple new rods and reels and boat upgrades I would guess I am close to 8-9K so far this year but the boat should be set for a while. My wife likes to fish as well so we have upgraded some of her rods/reels also.
It was my wife's idea to upgrade the boat and she proclaimed, "it is the year of the boat" so who am I to argue with her. :-)
Not counting gas probably $2000 or more. Having a partner to split cost helps tremendously.
I have no idea really but it adds up quick for me buying big expensive baits. The upside is they are kinda better because there is always a market to resell them or trade. It is actually possible to be making money with them flipping baits or if you have a line on some for cheap. I had thought about doing it and making side cash but I can't bring my self to do it. Just knowing what I pay for them and knowing what I could sell for and how much I would make is not fair. I would just feel like I am getting over on people.
considering i bought my first boat this year way to much.. lol.
