fishing user avatarScott F reply :

Most fishing forums, (but not so much on this one) have issues with guys hiding behind an alias and saying a lot of rude things that they might not say to someone face to face. On a forum that I moderate, we don't allow people to use an alias or nicknames at all. So I've always used my real first name on every forum I sign up for.

fishing user avatarthe reel ess reply :

Some guys I used to work with had trouble pronouncing my last name. So I got the nickname The Ess. Later another guy with that nickname came to work there. But since I had been there longer, I became The Real Ess. Since this is a fishing site I changed Real to Reel. Thus, The Reel Ess.

fishing user avatarFish the Mitt reply :

I live in Michigan (mitten or mitt shaped), and I love this state. I love getting excited about fishing here, and hopefully having that pour out into my communication with others.

If I get just one person excited, and they give it a shot, then my job is done. Whether that's fishing for the first time, or fishing in Michigan for the first time.

Previous name was SemperBass.

Semper (Latin for always - taken from my time in the USMC)

+

Bass

= Always Bass. That was my mindset anyway. ????

Mine was earned... took a 1/2oz bullet sinker just above my right eye. It actually went all the way in and looked like one of those crazy eyebrow implants people get.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

John Franchot.

jfrancho was my login for my old employer's network.  First initial of first name, first 7 digits of last name. That's why the t is nipped off.  If there was another jfrancho, I'd be jfranch2.  I've used that login for just about everything.  The Bass Resource software wouldn't allow you to have the same screen name as your log in, so I used "J Francho".  What's funny, I now respond to "Jay Frank-O," in person even though that's not how my last name is pronounced.  Don't get fancy, it's not French, just pronounce it the way it's written, using the most basic rules of English.

I chose Fishing Cowgirl because I would get home from school and get on my pony with fishing pole in hand. I would ride him up and down Shingle Creek (Kissimmee Chain) and fish.

I’m from originally from an island where bass aren’t native but like all if you love bass fishing, hence islandbass.  I didn’t have enough creativity to think of anything else for a screen name.

Hope people don’t think I’m a bass player, lol.

fishing user avatarPAPADUDE reply :

My grandkids call me papa and my daughters call me dude.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

My screen name was the name of a music project I put together on CD before the age of social media.  I have played guitar since my teens, and on this project I played everything - bass, keyboards, drums, guitars, and even programmed some drum machine patches.  (At the time, drum machine patches were pretty ugly,  and in my opinion, most still are.)  :) While I believe the music was solid and well-played for the most part, the recording quality suffered as my amateur abilities with the recording software of the time left much to be desired.

I have thought about changing my name to something else (lucid1 maybe?) but since I am known by the "senile1" moniker I have been hesitant to change it.

fishing user avatarloodkop reply :

Loodkop is Afrikaans for lead head.

fishing user avatarMountainMan83 reply :

83, year I was born. My parents were from West Virginia and moved to Maryland before I was born. My dad was an avid hunter and fisherman, started my love for everything outdoors early.

In elementary school, my mom used to pick me up after school in our '93 Ford Bronco with a bug visor on the hood that read "Mountain Man". I used to get teased all the time about it, until I begged my parents to take it off. Ah, the stupid little things that mean nothing. I'd give anything to take another ride with my mom in that Bronco with "Mountain Man" proudly displayed on the front of that hood.

Hmmm... Didn't think about how that might be taken. Honesty has never been lacking in me. Forthright, sincere is more like it; That I am willing to put my name to my words.

The "uppity" part was for a bit of humor, although there is some truth in there too. My wife has said about me, "Paul isn't always nice, but he's always good." I have been called "driven" at times, and I am in my interests. Not for personal gain ("unfortunately" says my wife) as much out of sheer passion. So... I often have a lot to say, and will question something I don't agree with -for sake of clarifying the subject; I really want to know. Hopefully not coming off too strongly, or stepping too firmly on toes or beliefs. Years ago, while being interviewed for a research position, I was asked why I wanted to do science. I replied unhesitatingly, "Because I want to see the face of God." It wasn't hubris, or overconfidence; It was pure passion.

I didn't read anything derogatory in your comments, Paul, and I agree with your sentiments.  I just meant that I never thought about using a screen name to hide behind on any forum I joined.  I have even joined some forums that required your screen name to be something other than your real name.  So, I just didn't think of it as anything other than a catchy name to use.  Often, I have signed my actual name - Von Guttenberg Heffenfeffer - to correspondence with individuals.
