I had the pleasure to fish with both Glenn and Kerri at this year's roadtrip.
I have a pretty good pulse for who in the world are genuine good people, and these two fit the bill.
While fishing with Glenn, I was able to hear the story of BassResource and its beginnings. I also heard the beginnings, motives, and accomplishments of Tackle the Storm.
I was moved by the concept and thought behind it, to know what can be achieved in the heart of a child. Simply the smile it must bring knowing they have lost everything, but in some small way reach towards normalcy by fishing. A sport we all love and ourselves would hate to lose.
As I told Glenn, the world is a cold, cruel, evil place and that's not going to change.
But to know that I can somehow change that for a child for the price of a pack of plastics or crankbait......well I am all in.
so here is what I am going to do, I hope you may also follow suit.
For every "big un" I catch this year I will donate to Tackle the Storm, enough to purchase a child a rod and reel.
Everyone's "big un" will be different, as everyone's water is different, so you decide. I have chosen 4#.
I'm in.
I think I heard Glenn say that with some "Big Companies" help, they can put a rod and reel in a child's hand for around 6 bucks.
5# is my number.
I love the Idea, I will go in also with a 4, but what about donations, where do we send the money too?
I do not get the opportunity to fish that often anymore, I would like to donate as well as participate.
Need more info please - would love to help out!!
Brian,
After fishing with you a couple times in the last couple weeks, you are the last one I thought would come up with this.......j/k. I commend you for making this challenge, and I accept it as well.

PS- I am going for $.50 per bass......That can add up to $$$$. Just on the Roadtrip I bagged 141 fish! Hope I can make it MUCH more!
Wow Brian! What a great idea! I'm absolutely humbled by your generosity and initiative. When db (Don Barone, founder of Tackle The Storm) read this, he said,
QuoteWow.
When I read this from Brian: As I told Glenn, the world is a cold, cruel, evil place and that's not going to change. I thought, no it isn't a cold, cruel, evil place, it is in fact a caring loving place, with a few idiots running around.
It is absolutely a warm, caring, loving place, and I only have to point to Brian…and all those who have followed…as proof of that.
We have had hundred's of volunteers, hundred's of people making donations, several companies, songwriters, Elite Anglers, people in the crowd, show that the world is a caring place, once you turn off the news.
Love wins, it is the fuel of this planet, i is why we crawled out of the sea, or landed here from the stars. Here's proof that the world believes in Love Wins: Sitting in a warehouse in Alabama we have almost 1,000 rods and reels for children and their older siblings.
This past weekend we put 300 rods and reels into the hands of the surviving Elementary School children of the Sandy Hook School shootings.
To date, thanks to a loving world, we have put rods and reels into the hands of over 900-HUNDRED kids.
900 kids know that Love Wins,
and just maybe those 900 kids…will change the world, for everyone.
And just this weekend at the BassResource RoadTrip, we raised enough money to add 119 kids to that total. This came from a combination of the raffle, Siebert Outdoors Storm series jigs sales, and a very generous $75 donation from Brian himself. I know Brian isn't looking for recognition, as he pulled me aside to quietly gave me his donation, but I just wanted everyone to know what a wonderful and caring person Brian is.
In addition, Alpster (Ronnie) custom built a fantastic spiral-wrapped rod to donate to the raffle, and Dinky (MIke) added items including an autographed tournament jersey from Randy Howell. I also wanted to thank all our sponsors for donating prizes to raffle off: HawgTech, Mystery Tackle Box, Siebert Outdoors, Tuf-Line, and RageTail,
Everyone can make a difference. It doesn't take much to change a child's life. Every $7.50 raised puts a magic wand into a kid's hand, and puts a smile on his face.
Again Brian, what a wonderful idea. And a big thank you to everyone stepping up to the challenge.
To make your donation, please visit http://tacklethestorm.org/ and click the "donate" tab. You can also send a check made out to Tackle The Storm Foundation, PO Box 912, Farmington, CT 06034.
Thank you,
Glenn
Top notch guys!! I've got an idea on how to raise some funds from the kayak community down here, so I'll keep you posted.
I'm in and I will get everyone I fish with involved!
Way to go Brian. I will make my contribution through the above link.
FWIW Don Barone is one of my heroes, although he would not be comfortable with that label. I have not met him, but having read his words and the words of others about him, he is an inspiration to me and countless others. Thanks for the post Brian.

I think I may have an idea for the meet and greet this year too !!!
I'm in. $10 for every 5 pounder or better I catch this year. It's a great cause, and a great idea!
I'm sitting in a hotel room in Montgomery, AL for the Elite event here this week, about to go out and do a story, including a visit to the gravesite of Hank Williams Sr., when Glenn sends me a link to this on the board.
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make."
Welcome DB! I'm in for every 5 pounder. I will donate 10 per fish and to support Siebert, I will purchase enough jigs for another donation. Doublin up like "the rig"
I consider you a hero.
Do you take tackle donations?
I accept this! my number is also #4
Me to 5# $7.50 I have seen the joy in a childs face when he or she catches a fish and its worth the whole world to see.

One combo for every 5lb+ bass sounds good to me.
I'm in!
I'm all for this! I will donate for every bass I catch @ 5+ lbs.
This topic should be "pinned".
I accept! $10 for every 5+lbs bass.
IM IN!
10 bucks for every fish over 4#
I'm in at 4 pounds!! and adding back to January. Just one so far but that will get better!
Awesome!
I'm in for $10 for every 5# and above.
Hope to generate a donation at the Southern Open at Logan Martin next week.
Expect the trip to El Salto in Juy to result in a pretty nice donation.
IM IN!
10 bucks for every fish over 4#
after rooming with Brian on the trip.......i know his mind (and his mouth) works endlessly....(something about that just doesn't sound right does it??) to clarify....he talks alot...ok.. LOL!! you know i love you man!! (yes we are rooming together next year)
Brian...fantastic idea!! it is awesome to help a child in this way!!
well I caught a MAGIC FISH, 3.96# today, I think I will just count it ........what's .04 between friends and scale variances, right ?
I have to say, I know I smiled so big when I first saw the fish, knowing it was a "big un" and the kids were my first thought..........fishing is going to be extra fun this year for this fact alone.
tight lines guys!
Here are two more combo's
The one in my left hand is mine. The 6.5 in my right hand is tstone's. He is going to participate as well.
$10 donation sent for my fish in Lee's picture. I'm glad to be a part of this and thank you Brian for posting this and everyone else that donated, it's a small amount that helps so much. For these kids and their families its worth much more.
saturday on my home lake...
a 3lb 6oz and a 5lb 2oz'er.
both on a jig...
my # is 4lbs and to me those 2 average over 4lbs.... so, 2 more combos for The Storm!!
This really is an amazing and heart warming effort. Looking at the massive destruction of Moore OK...and the face of the children from the destroyed elementary schools full of tears and terror....I got all choked up thinking about what you guys are doing.
We're already in contact with several bass clubs in the area. As soon as rebuilding efforts begin, your love will be sent their way. To remove the tears. To remove the fear. And to show we care. To show that strangers from around the world who never met them, are there to support them.
A rod and reel may not seem like much, but to change a frightened tearful face into a smiling giggling bundle of joy means everything.
I can't thank you guys enough.
I caught 20 more fish Sunday. That equates to $10 more on my donation. I am keeping the rolling counter in my signature!

Thats right!
Took First in our clubs first Points Tournament of the year with 34.64 and in those two limits were three "Magic Fish" one of which was Big Fish of the event at 5.28 lbs!! so three more Magic Wands are on the way!!
It sounds great to me. I will go with 4#. Up here by Lake Erie I could donate a lot hopefully.
The Rage Toad just cost me another combo.
and another toad fish...
Why aren't we ALL doing this!?! I'm in for 4#'s!
Went at 9:00 pm yesterday. It was amazing.
I was just scrolling through all of this, and to be honest, it kicked my butt. Not so much because of the money raised, which is great especially now at what we are facing July 27th in Oklahoma, but what got me, emotionally, right in the heart, was the amount of people doing it, and having a good time doing it.
I write so many times about, The Family, Of Us...the world wide community of anglers that I know is out there...but scrolling through this has now, for me, today and always, put a face to The Family, Of Us.
Your faces.
I want you to know something I believe deeply, Tackle The Storm Foundation is NOT Don Barone's Tackle The Storm...I say that over and over and yet I still have somehow become the face of the foundation.
From now on when a reporter, or donor, or sponsor, says db's Tackle The Storm, and I refute it, you folks have given me a tremendous gift because I have bookmarked this thread, and I will send it to the person with jus a simple little note:
"You want to see the face of Tackle The Storm, here they are...Tackle The Storm belongs to these people, and hundreds of other people like them, I had nothing to do with setting this up, they did. They are Tackle The Storm."
I write about, in life every once in awhile you come across magic, magic called, Bits of Wonderful.
You, are my proof of that,
db
I am so glad to be a part of this. Every time I catch a fish,my donation goes up. And it puts a smile on my face!!!!
Jeff
I am glad yall been catching them, cause I haven't caught jack worth anything all summer....... seems like all my good fish (which been rare) are 3.80 or 3.67 and haven't caught one of those in over a month ....... cant break my barrier.

As stated before I do not get the chance to fish much any more, but I have been busy trying to get some support, I was hoping to do better and get some support from our meet and greet here in Va. but as things go, life happens, and our meet and greet just absolutely fell apart, but I did receive this from Dicks Sporting Goods just today, I do not know how you can use it to be quite honest, but here is some help from some great people at Dicks, I have been working pretty hard to save a few bucks and contribute to this foundation myself, but as luck would have it, it seems everything is starting to show it's age and every time I save a contribution, we need it to fix a vehicle, I do wish to make this pledge that by years end I will have $100.00 bucks to share with such a great cause.
This is what they sent me, if someone could point me in the right direction as to where I need to mail this, I will be more than happy to ship this off tomorrow or ASAP !
I tried several companies and Dicks Sporting Goods was the only one to show any interest at all, I am proud that they gave recognition to such a great cause and I wish you all the best.
Good luck and be safe !!!
My contact info,
540-383-8184 this is my cell , best way to text me an address to ship this too.

Jeff , if you could please get in touch with someone , I have noticed that the certificates run out Oct 31st of this year , so the sooner I get this in the right hands the better , and don't thank me , thank DSG's
Good luck and be safe !!!
you could send them to me and I will donate $70 on DSG's behalf if that makes it easier. I spend a lot of money there.
FD I have no problem with anything you guys wish to do with them , as long as it gets to the foundation with DSG's behalf in mind that's all I am worried about big guy !
My cell number is in the post , you all decide and shoot me a text with an address .
Thank you Dicks Sporting Goods for your participation and I would like to say thanks to all who have made a concentrated effort in raising money for a great cause , you guys and gals are the best and I am proud to be a small part of this web site !!!
Here is what I propose
1- give the marathon tickets to someone who would actually use them. They can donate whatever they think the tickets are worth.
2- I will send Nitro my address and he can send me the gift certs. I will donate the $70 on DSG's behalf. I will give them to Taylor and Nicole who will spend them in 12 seconds or less.
Sounds good to me!
Jeff
I have been following this thread for a while & it is a very good cause. I would like to match Jeff's (00 mod) years end total. Keep catching Jeff.
Dwight, this means a lot to me and for TTS. Thank you sir!

No sir. Pony up my friend!
I'm new to the bass fishing community and am only a lonely kayak bass fisherman on the local ponds of Fort Hood Texas. I am in the army and am participating in my first Pro/Am sept 20th called fishin for freedom sponsored by a vet who was disabled in iraq. the biggest Ive caught largemouth wise was just under 4 lbs so I will also accept the 4 lb challange. I will do everything I can to meet that goal and I commend you for the idea for this. Im set to deploy again on my 4th deployment in under 9 years and am glad that I can be a part of this while im still stateside.
You sent a payment
Dear Homer Harrelson,
You sent a payment for $100.00 USD to Tackle The Storm Foundation.
Please note that it may take a little while for this payment to appear in the Recent Activity list on your Account Overview.
Amount: $100.00 USD Sent on: September 25, 2013
That's the $70 for the Dicks certificates and another $30 for the three over 5 lb I caught while messing around in a pond that I built and stocked 4 years ago.
Thanks to Nitrofreak for getting these donated in the first place.
Lee, you are catching some hogs my friend!!!!!!! Good for you!!!!
I have to admit, my 4# goal has not worked out for me very well.
Let me go ahead and say now, I will now donate on the "00mod" plan......50cents for every fish I catch, PLUS a combo($7.50) for any over 4#.
this helps me and the kids. Me, because now I will HAVE to keep a fishing log, plus get to donate on the regular. Helps the kids in that, lets face it they need the help and a smile!
I never like to lower a goal, but for the smile of a child, I am willing.
On 9/27/2013 at 1:34 AM, Brian Needham said:Lee, you are catching some hogs my friend!!!!!!! Good for you!!!!
5-6-7 pounders are not that big a deal around here. I catch 20-25 over 5 lbs a year. I had 3 over 8 in an afternoon a few years ago.
I built a 2.5 acre pond for a client 4 years ago and we stocked it and have been managing it for trophy bass. I stocked it with 750 fingerlings after we had a stable population of minnows and blue gills. Most of those fish that survived are over 5 lbs now. It's almost like cheating.
It has been a long time since I have visited this site and I am very pleased to see that there are a ton of great people that still frequent it. I ran a charity organization for a few years that gave kids the opportunity to fish for the first time and I have to say that seeing the smiles on their faces is worth everything to me. I have run into hard times lately due to losing a great job but I have just ventured into the challenging world of car sales. I pledge a minimum of $100 from my first commission check, but my goal is going to be $500. I will be working very hard to make this happen. It makes my heart feel good to take on this goal in my life. I support what you are doing 100%.

Welcome back John, and thank you for joining our venture!

Im in guys ill do 20$ for every 4 pounder always love to help kids fish, anything else to help kids get into fishing? If so someone message me please.
welcome aboard Brent!!!!
that is a big step up for sure!
I'm in for one rod for each over 5# and I will donate 10% of whatever I take home at the Splash tournament in a few weeks (if I win anything)
WTG! Pmoss...... welcome to our little personal challenge.
1446 kids on the water because of BR. Awesome job guys.
Looks like my Arkansas folk gonna need some help
Gentlemen....... be proud.
We raised some money this weekend at the roadtrip!
I personally caught 18 fish.... 6 over 4# so that is a decent little rod locker full right there,
but more importantly the Saturday night raffle rasied enough for 150+ kids to have a rod and reel!!!
how awesome is that.
I have been lurking on this site for awhile now. I would be honored to join y'all in this challenge! I just read this challenge today and was extremely happy to see so many people joining in and being excited about helping children out. I have had the joy of taking kids fishing and helping them catch their first fish. The joy in their eyes and excitement is amazing!
I mainly fish Ross Barnett reservoir in Mississippi, the bass fishing there is not the best. I will donate $10 for every 3#+
I wish I could have known about this earlier! Thank y'all for putting this together.

That may be the best first post of all time. Way to go Dirty. Welcome to the forums.
This is a Wonderful Thing you are doing and it makes me glad that I joined BR. It brings joy to my heart to know that there is still some awesome young people like BRAIN OUT HERE.Who think of others and not just himself . I hope this doesn't offend any one but GOD BLESS YOU. I will send what I can when I can.
I just Donated I hope that all the West Tn Fisher Men and Women will do the the same. We get alot of Bad storms all the time. So help make a child smile. There's nothing like watching a childs exspression we they catch a fish.
Got me a smallie PB this weekend.
SO GLAD to be able to up my donation total for 2014!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!
I am accepting this challenge, even though I'm having a hard time finding the money to spare on a pack of softbaits right now. My scale is broken, but if something looks 4+ by eyeballing it I am donating.
I don't have a ton of spare $$$ laying around to give away, but for a good cause like this I think I can hop on board. I do a lot of trophy bass fishing (don't mess around with those small ones- big live bait and swimbaits for me ), so I'll give $15 for every 6 pounder. Typically thats anywhere from 3 to 15 fish. We'll see what the year holds!
Due to my excessive fishing I'm going to definitely do this. Anything over five pounds has got me throwin down some cash.
im everyone have fish big zize
I'm in on this, just started doing tournaments this year. For the remainder of this season(they are small 2 man team tourneys) all of my half of the winnings will be contributed to this awesome cause! Hopefully my partner and I can do some good!!
Down here in florida there is an organization that holds events for kids fishing. They had one in March where they gave all kids attending a free rod and reel. They even have a kids only offshore fishing trip on the 27th. They are called the Halifax Sports Fishing Club or HSFC if you want to check them out.
This is awesome! What an excellent idea, I'll have to follow your example. Challenge accepted!
Great post, even greater purpose. Im in
If this is an ongoing thing I would like to get into it this summer while I'm on vacation up in Canada. I will only be fishing Smallmouth while I'm on this lake and would like to donate $10 for every Smallmouth over 2 1/2 lbs up to a $300 limit. Have never caught a 2 1/2lber on the lake.......They start at 3 1/2lb !! 30 fish that size can be 1 day of fishing up there. Who to and where to do I send the money?
I'd love to help out. Im not able to view the website with info at the moment. Great idea guys.

Wow guys. This is a great idea! I'm in, incredible way to help out.
Super idea! I'd like to help
Great Post, I need to look into this project and figure out how to donate. I have a large amount of Plastics I will not be selling and all are very good baits that are perfect for Kids. I remember how much fun it was when I was young to pick out my own soft plastics and colors so you have your own tackle box.
I wasn't sure what to do with most of it since I don't want to pay storage and you can't keep them in your place due to smell, but this is a good idea. I have witnessed the power fishing can have on the right kid. Some do not have interest but every so often a neighborhood kid will show an interest, and once they get that fever, they love it, and a few kids in my neighborhood have become quite skilled and I see a few of them at the ponds from first light until dark.
Fishing is one of the most healthy hobbies you can have. It is rare you meet another angler who is not a nice person. Not that you have to get along with everybody, but the large majority of fisherman that I encounter are good people who all have the same "Bug" We have.
I would love to donate.
What about the kids in the ghetto?
If I offend anyone I'm sorry, but I feel as if people are here for face value. Take a step outside, and if you are on your acres of land or nice drive way...go a couple miles to that other side of town and see what's really going on. "Lil James" tried selling me a bag of herb just last week. If anybody really wants to help the kids, get informed, learn something, and help the kids that really need it. I know a handful of children that will take a 2 piece wing and taters over a pole everyday. Sorry just my 2 cents. I know this is positive. Just seeing a lot of guys trying to 1 up another on donations. If anything, donate your time and see what really is going on. I guess that's the difference between someone who owns a boat and someone who fishes from the shore
And the guys wondering on "how to donate", just donate, go to your local soup kitchen, feed my sheep, or hell go to any school and find the kid that doesn't have pencils for class...help them out....they're who needs it. Not saying what the kids yall helped weren't going through a terrible time. But at the same time it happens everyday, to everyone, and anybody....the opportunity to help has been around all the time, now all of a sudden everyone wants to jump on this wagon? Not a bad wagon to jump on...just saying there's a couple wagons that have been plowing the field for awhole...don't help out just because your friends are. Help out because you genuinely know that you can help a young person through a struggle.
I'm about to catch so much heat...probably kicked out of here for saying all that. But if your heart is true. Then it's always been true. Keep the face value away from it and really help out.
Point is, the struggle for the kids is REEL. Get out there and really help.
BTW, if anyone bashes me for not helping/beine there, you can come to Feed My Sheep every weekend for a meal from my family. I'm sure they're tired of my chili anyways.
I'll do that! Every 5+ lbers I catch I'll donate! An I'll donate 100$ every citation fish I catch, here in Virginia! Love the idea and thoughts of this! Ima print this out and hand it around to our club!
I just recently read an old blog of db's about himself and K-Pink. It made me think about a few things. It had to do with the 1st time they met at Lake Champlain. At the very end db witnessed a losing Elite angler who was packing up early because he didn't make the cut. The angler was obviously down and in a hurry to just get out of there. Anyway, in the midst of this a father with a young son approached for an autograph. The angler stopped what he was doing and talked to them. Before they left, the angler reached up under his boat cover and gave the young boy a rod and reel combo. To put a rod in the hands of a child can be an amazing thing. This act of kindness made me think of myself and back to when I got my 1st combo. (Zebco spincaster) It had such an affect and hooked me for life. It was different times back then and I was allowed to go down to the dock by myself. I fished every chance I got! Some of my fondest moments in life are of me fishing on that dock and if I could possibly return that gift to a child less fortunate than myself then I say I'm all in. $5 for any smallmouth over 4lbs brought into my boat this summer. This includes anyone else who may be fishing with. I will make certain they understand the rules.
Such an awesome idea! I'll go with 4# myself. I've heard a lot about Tackle the Storm and I think it's a great program.
I'm in! mine will be 6+ - will keep you guys updated!
Interesting, where can you donate to this cause?

Not sure of how BR got started and I'm relatively new here but since I found the site I've been on here literally every day and have met some of the most helpful and informative people, and had the pleasure of meeting up in person with several of them. Big thanks to Glenn, the moderators and sponsors behind bassresource.

Read the staff introductions, specifically Glenn's, and it'll give you great insight on how BR got started. It's a great read!!
Loving this, Count me in as well. 10 for every 5lb. I see the love of everyone here and, Well, it just warms my heart. God bless you all.
I'm in!
$10 for fish 5-8lbs
10% of any tourney winnings

Wish I would've read this thread a long time ago.
This is sick I'm down for the cause!
Every time I break a pb I will donate 20$,
any fish over 5lbs I will donate 10$
If for some reason I don't accomplish either of those this season, I will donate 20$. Woohoo what a cause, good-luck folks!

That is seriously an amazing idea!! Good on you.
I love this idea, I am 29 and it’s rare besides my one fishing buddy to find a guy between 20-30 fishing in my area, oddly enough I see kids on bikes with poles pond hopping!
I am a NCAA ice hockey official, I am off working side jobs until the season starts and would love to partake!
