ok. i have just gotten into bass fishing during the winter months and in that time frame, i spoke with a bass fisher that was speaking in a seminar. him as well as everyone on this forum rant and rave about the "senko".
i am not knocking it at all but i am curious to know whats the big deal? to me its a rubber worm. am i missing something? i have recently purchased a 50 pack of watermelon seed 5" senkos on ebay. thinking i might as well give them a shot to test the waters.
i saw that you can wacky rig these things. thats another option that i dont quite understand the logic about. how does a worm with a hook in the middle of its body tempt bass? looks fake if you ask me.
last but not least. i am also seeing on ebay, a tool that you can buy with "o" rings that should be used with these senkos. how many people use these o-rings and how the heck do they work? i thought you just put the hook through the body and whola, your done
i have read a number of sites online in reference to these senkos but still dont see the big deal
please anyone, fill me in on the unknown!!!
Its similar to a worm but different. Once you get one in the water you'll understand. Watch as it falls, the action is subtle and fish just love it. It may look fake to you, but thats not an issue if its catching fish, right? 8-)
I use the o-ring because fish tend to tear the baits at the hook and by using the o-ring you get more life out of them. BPS Stick-o's are a bit tougher than genuine Senko's imo, but I digress.
I just slide the ring around the bottom of the bait (since its taper is a little bit more narro than the top),set it where I want and slide the hook in.
Read the Senko FAQ to get more ideas.
Geez...
It's been the most productive bass bait/ lure for more than a decade.

If you learn to fish them right they will catch lockjaw bass when nothing else will.

You better let em know something roadwarrior, LOL!!!! ;D
I realize from your post that your just trying to understand, but one thing that you might try aside from reading the FAQs on them , is to change your first impressions. Whether senkos or any other bait, a more optimistic approach to something new may boost your chances of success with trying something new.
This isn't meant to be smart or degrading, just that understanding something a little before looking at the negatives will help you gain more insight as to why it may be a successful bait.
Best of luck
reds, I hear ya. I don't see what the big deal with them either. They fall apart after like twenty casts or one bass, whatever comes first. I consistently catch bass with other lures while others use slinkos and catch nothing. I have no room for them in my tacklebox. I have tried them, but I won't use them. They are not for me.
As for being the most productive lure in more than a decade, I dunno. If anglers tied on a culprit original instead of a sinko every time they reached for one, that would be the most productive lure in more than a decade. I chalk it up to successful marketing more than anything.
I started using them last year (I get mine from *). They have caught a lot of fish for me. They caught fish when the usual fish catching stuff would not work. If you start using them you will see what the deal is. I use the o-rings, helps the bait last longer.
The slow fall and the composition make it attractive to game fish.
Wacky makes it "fly" in the water.
Bass like moving targets and a Senko moves gracefully in the water so it is attractive to the animal.
Learn how to fish Senkos and you will improve your mastery of bass fishing.
You didn't buy Senkos in 50 count bags on Ebay. They don't package any 50 count bags. Also, note the spelling: Senko, any other spelling is something other than a Senko.
If they weren't as successful a bait as advertised, everyone and his brother wouldn't be trying to duplicate them!

So a culprit worm will catch suspended post frontal fish while hopping it on the bottom. :
So whats all the hype? Any newbie,novice,child,dum@#s,or retard can catch fish with a senko type lure, thats why.Take someone who has never fished a day in thier life or cannot even cast a rod and they can catch fish on those things.Wacky rig it under a bobber and a 6 yr old can have a blast. Some tournament guys get easily offended when someone weighs in a huge sack caught using these things. At times it is almost like cheating since it takes very little if any skill at all to catch fish with them.No they won't always work but if there was a magic bait for bass fishing this would be the closest thing

I could not have said it better myself bro! When i was teaching my little bro to fish he went about 6 months with no fish. We tried everything but no luck. Then, i tied on a Senko and he caught his first pond bass. The picture still hangs on just about every relatives wall, LOL!
Well, I'm glad that yall enjoy them. I just don't think that it catches bass as well as other lures that I use. Many will say, "Well, you're not usin' it right!" According to some, there's no wrong way to fish'em. : But I have given them a chance. I am admittedly a minimalist and I will only fish with a certain select few lures that I believe in. The senko just hasn't found a place in my box.
Senko's are obviuosly one of the most productive baits out there. That said like any bait it has it's time and place. I personally like to use them when the water hits about 60 degrees right through post spawn. Generally speaking it's an option I consider when some of my other baits/techniques aren't producing particularly when the water is calm. I usually prefer to use power baits like cranks, jigs, heavy T-rigs, topwaters etc but I'll use Senko's if that's what it takes to catch fish. Even though I tend to use these baits less than most fisherman in my opinion you are at a disadvantage if this bait is not part of your arsenal.
;D
A disadvantage without one? I digress. Its just a different looking bait. The same results can be had with a smaller/finesse lure. Believe me, I am not at a disadvantage.
I'll talk with yall some more about this later. I'm headed to the hole.
Yeah I came off kind of abrasive, sorry to any, or all.
Basically whatever suits your style is what goes.Theres a lot of things I do that I know a lot of people on here won't even touch.
I don't like to use the senko as a primary or search bait mainly.I like it for a follow up and also use it when the bite is extremely tough or in pressured waters.
Boy I could really open a can of worms if I started a post titled "whats the deal with jigs and whats all the hype" I just don't get it and they have almost no place in my box :-X
the bait catches fish, if it didnt they would not be so popular.. i always try to be open minded when it comes to bass fishing, if your not, that could be a disadvantage.look at the shakey head worm and swimbaits...those were new techniques a few years ago and now they are a mainstay in many bass fishermans tackle arsenal, just like the senko..if you dont like them thats fine, just make sure your not costing yourself fish because of an opinion
I feel the same about crankbaits. Never had any luck with them, though I am determined to get bit this season. I'm convinced it's a confidence thing, I just need to get over the 'hump'.
Back to the Senko style baits, it can be argued that it's the ultimate bait. It's a stick. You cannot rig it wrong. At times it gets bit just sitting there doing nothing. You can catch fish with pieces of one when your last one is shredded down to almost nothing. You can cut a five inch one in half and have two finesse baits if the situation calls for it. An infinite number of actions can coaxed out of it. What other bait can do all of this ?
For me, the beauty is in the simplicity and versatility.
like i said, i will definitley geive tehm a try. as for my buying them on ebay. i typed in senko and there are "worms that represent senkos" they look the same to me!!
why pay more for a name brand when you can have the same thing as a knock off. why not save the money!
You people are hilarious.

Exactly why I rarely use one, well that and the fact that everyone and their mother throws a senko where I'm fishing. Give me anything but a senko and I'm happy. I will admit that I will throw one once in a blue moon when I'm in the mood, or feel like it will get the job done in the scenario I'm in. But that chance is less than 5%. I will always give them to friends who are new to bass fishing, they are "training worms" to me .

Your missin out man! Take the time to learn a jig, it was the best thing I've ever learned in bass fishing, and not only 2/3 of my pb bass were landed on it, but my main pb was on a jig as well.
oh yeah, if anyone is interested in the "50 pack" of senkos that i was referring to, heres the link

Training baits: anyone can catch easily with them:
What the devil are you people doing out there - trying to find baits that don't work well?????
See? Even this guy is ashamed to be fishin em!! ;D

Well, these are the assinine comments that are made whenever the "Senko" comes up...
