MTB vs LTB 2025

fishing user avatarFishingTheNorth reply :

I would like to pursue my childhood dream and complete an MTB or LTB slam!!

however, idk which is better value, the Mystery Tackle box or Lucky Tackle Box...

this will be a comparison for all models and plans... quantity and quality

fishing user avatarbigturtle reply :

If you just want to do a slam, just grab whichever you want

fishing user avatarCTBassin860 reply :

It doesn't matter.I've  done both,same thing.

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

1. Get them both for one month, on their introductory offers -- 4.99 each.

2. When they come in, have a close look at what they sent and try the baits out. Maybe do a slam on both.

3. Keep the subscription of the box you like the best, cancel the other one.  Or keep them both.

Oops wrong thread!

I've never had LTB I'm waiting on my 3rd box from MTB. So far so good. I receive emails when my order is being processed emails when it's shipped. The lures are surprisingly good so far. Some don't like the sample packs but not a deal breaker for me. If they keep up the good work I'll keep getting my MTB. I know MTB is on here so they can always help you if needed if you decide to go with them.

The one thing about LTB us FULL packs of soft plastics and not half packs.

I've gotten half packs/sample packs but it's not a deal breaker for me. I'll know if I'll by more before a whole pack.

It never bothered me either. You can't go wrong either way.

fishing user avatarAC870 reply :

I did a subscription to each. I liked MTB better. Just seemed to me they sent better stuff. JMO. I also found MTB website much more user friendly.

fishing user avatarmllrtm79 reply :

I have gotten both, am currently on the 6 month MTB Pro subscription that my gf gave me for Christmas. I had no problems with LTB XL box, but discontinued it for now. They sent some really good lures out, I just figured only one at a time was good enough.

I do know from experience that MTB customer service is on point; I had an upgrade snafu when I put in the gift subscription and they shipped me a regular box by mistake. They sent me the correct box within 2 days of my emailing them about the issue, and told me to keep the other box for the trouble. Bonus baits!

In my opinion you can't go wrong either way, especially with the discounts on the first box, but keep in mind that they both send out baits that may not be something you have use for in your area.

fishing user avatar12poundbass reply :

The funny thing is my wife thinks I have enough tackle already, yet she signed me up for MTB! She got me the $15/month package and I'll upgrade during the fishing months. If I were to go buy the same amount of lures each month she would ask why I needed more and why I needed to spend the money each month on stuff I "don't need" or "May never use" (her words not mine)  so this way she pays the credit card bill each month and doesn't think twice. Win win for me! Way to look out for us married guys MTB who can never have enough tackle!

There's a ton of these threads from the past....   some are fans of one or the other, and then there's haters that are compelled to post that dislike any of the services.  Over the years, they both offer basically the same thing, and both have proactive customer service.  Pick the one you like.  They both serve a purpose for anglers looking to try new and different baits they may not ever buy on their own.

I've never used LTB, however I don't see how one would be better than the other. From my experience with MTB and from what I've seen from LTB the both offer great products and you're spot on with they open your eyes to trying new things out. I've already started looking up a few lures I've received and learning when, where, and how best to use them. Like with anything in the fishing world it really all comes down to preference. You really can't go wrong with either IMO.

People repeat this often, but it's not true. In my experience, about half of the packs you get from LTB are samples, and half are full, and it's the same for the regular box as it is for the XL box. For MTB, plastics in the regular box are almost always samples, and plastics in the pro box are almost always full packs.

I am not bothered by samples -- it can go either way: I might prefer more bodies of the items I like, but I also prefer NOT to have more of the box's value tied up in a full pack of items I don't like.

But one thing about MTB is they always clearly indicate whether you're getting a full pack or a sample, and they adjust the listed value of the item when it's a sample. LTB does not do this -- they list the value of a full pack even when they send samples, so you have to look closely at what you're getting and you can't always assume the listed prices represent the value of what you got. I have had LTB subscriptions a couple times and have enjoyed what they sent, but this has always rubbed me the wrong way.

fishing user avatarnpl_texas reply :

I get both $25/month plans.  I don't pay attention the every little detail but LTB does some pretty decent videos on each bait.

MTB may do the same I've just never checked it out.

I get the feeling that LTB is a little more "up-scale" (best word I can think of) but I've only gotten both for a few months.  I'm likely going to narrow it down to one as it does seem that they do the same lures on different months sometimes.

fishing user avatarCybrSlydr reply :

We got a 3mo sub for Christmas for the Bass XL box from LTB.  Thus far, I'm very impressed/pleased with what we've received.

I also like the videos put out by LTB and Travis Moran & Co.  I highly recommend LTB!

fishing user avatarKnowles227 reply :

Hello,

I was reading the thread and decided to make a profile and add my two-cents on the topic. So first I live on Kentucky lake in Tennessee at the Paris landing area. The lake is right out my door hence why we bought the house. I started in California as a child then Nevada to Colorado to Washington state while in the army so I've fished many different lakes.

I got MTB for a while, as enjoying the bait selections my issue was with colors. I would watch the unboxing for other areas and say if they sent that color it would smash out here. It's clear water gin clear so the hatch was off. The selection of bait was worth the money hands down. We talk about size and quantity but for me it's great because it's a 1:35 min drive each way to bps.

There whole business model is new baits. We all I'm sure have baits we haven't had the chance to fish yet. So embrace the fact now you have a reason to go find a new lake.

So my overall review is 4/5

Pros: Cost, selection of bait,  suspense, value compared to actually shopping for baits. Just ask my wife my fishing budget is down.lol

Cons: for me color selection and not being able to get two a month. Would enjoy having one the first and middle of month.

      Adam

Maybe we could start another thread in the Flea Market like the "one man's trash" thread... Just swapping colors of the same baits lol

Would be a good deal lol. Maybe MTB and LTB should have a regional  choice. Let's say May your gonna come here to fish Kentucky lake and lake Barkley you could get my box and I want one for Cali when I go to my home lake I get a box for there area. MTB and LTB there's your next marketing ideal free of charge of course.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I didn't realize there were special colors to be used in different parts of the country?  Where is this list? :D

You could interview 20 anglers on the same lake, and not get to a consensus on color selection.

What is a "Slam"?

Something marketing folks came up with to increase cash flow.

There are definitely right colors I fish mostly ponds so anything other than a bluegill color is gonna be the wrong color for me .....that goes for swimbaits and cranks things of that nature

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I fish a few small ponds, and blue gill patterns, especially my male Hard Gill is productive. I was speaking more of larger bodies, where prey is more varied.
