4" Senko 2025

fishing user avatarThe Young Gun reply :

I picked up few packs of these today, here in northern Wisconsin downsizing worms always seems to produce more than larger worms. I was wondering hows everyone prefer to rig these? What size hook? Are these a good bait to T-Rig with a 1/8th oz sinker? Can I throw these on a spinning rod with 20lb Power Pro? Thanks for all the help!

fishing user avatariabass8 reply :

Weightless trig or wacky. Usually throw the 5" wacky more than 4.

I believe 2/0 or 3/0 depending on how you want it to fall or glide.

Yes. But i prefer weightless if im ever throwing a senko.

Yes, very easily.

fishing user avatarbackwater4 reply :

What iabass said. I throw the 4" most of the time though. Txt rigged or wacky, no weight.

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

I have no confidence in t-rigged senkos... I never caught a fish.on them always have to be wacky rigged

fishing user avatarComfortably Numb reply :

IMO Senkos are best fished weighless. That is how they were designed to be fished to get that enticing wiggle.

There are better choices if you want to t rig with a weight.

I always use 20# PP with Senkos.

fishing user avatarbassmaster8100 reply :

I fish them weightless or t-rig them with about the same success. I use 2/0 hooks. You should do fine with a spinning rod 20 lb pp.

fishing user avatarannexation reply :

I don't think they flutter as well as the 5" on a wacky rig, but then I'm not much for wacky rigging senkos anyway. My favorite way to fish a 4" is to weightless t-rig it with a 1/0 EWG. This way you can fish it like a jerk bait if they're in a chasing mood, and the lighter hook has less impact on the action. I throw them all the time on 10#PP.

fishing user avatarScott F reply :

I fish Northern Wisconsin too. I just got back from a 2 week stay. The 4 inch is my first choice. I fish them on 8 pound Fireline, weightless, & T-rigged. You get much longer casts on lighter line. Too me, weighting them ruins the best feature of Senkos, the slow fall. When you hide the point of the hook, you can drag them across the lily pads without them hanging up. Right now, the largemouth are hanging around all that fallen timber waiting for you to toss them one of those Senkos. The smallies are also hanging around docks and in the shallows working on their beds. Perfect Senko time. Too bad smallmouth are murder on real Senkos. One pack should last you a couple of hours but you'll have 20 or 30 fish to show for it.

fishing user avatarClackerBuzz reply :

don't forget to wacky them on a 1/16 to 1/8oz drop shot.  you will slay them if you toss it onto a smallie bed during spawn

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Shakyhead is my favorite way to fish the 4" bait. It's pretty heavy so it's easier to keep in contact with in deep water and seems to catch a little bigger fish because of the extra bulk. I fish them on a spinning rod with 10lb fluoro.

fishing user avatarWill Wetline reply :

I've been doing very well with smallies using a weightless, wacky rigged 4" Slim Senko on 8 lb. Sensation or fluoro.

Matter of fact, when I'm not getting bit on any other presentation, this is what I throw.

fishing user avatarMarty reply :

I used to get similar results with a 4" and 5" Senko. I use a 3/0 EWG with the former and 4/0 with the latter. You should be able to cast reasonably well on the 20# Power Pro.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

You should be fine with 2/0 or 3/0. I fish the 4" and 5" often.

My best results come from the following in order from most productive to not as productive.

1) t rigged weightless. (My go to way to use a senko)

2) t rigged with 1/8oz tungsten (best when water is a little more choppy)

3) Carolina Rig (i dont care for c rigs but i cant deny the effectivness of a senko on this rig)

4) Wacky rigged on a 1/8oz wacky jig head (can be very productive)

5) wacky weightless ( product tactic, but i have much more success with with the others)

With exception to the c rig, 20lb power pro should be fine.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

20lb PP is fine, I use 10 on my spinning gear, 20 on my bc gear, and I always tie on a leader.

I fish true Senkos primarily weightless when TX rigging, but like Teal, I'll tie on a 1/8 in windy situations.

Or I use a weighted wacky jig - which I've actually been using a lot this season.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

4" senkos don't work...............move along, nothing to see here .

fishing user avatarbasskicker98 reply :

I love the 4" for finicky bass. I wacky rig it on a 1/0 or 2/0 wicked wacky hook.

fishing user avatarPABASS reply :

I use nail weights which for me is a nail I cut in half to add extra weight to a wacky rig, changes sink rate and how it falls depending on how the fish want it, you can also add the nail to center of the body or get weighted O rings.

fishing user avatarCDMeyer reply :

3/0 to 4/0 hook and if you want to T-Rig it I'd use a smaller weight, Braid works well especially if your in the stumps..... Good Luck

fishing user avatarwngan9447 reply :

Wacky style with nail weights on each end...just caught my PB 5#er on this three days ago. Used very little, subtle jerks.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

I can only say what works for me is a Carolina rig using a 1/8oz weight with a ticker and a 24" leader with an eagle claw weedless hook and wacky rig the senko

I use no scent on the first cast.  If I get a strike strike and a miss and the weedless barb comes open to prove it then I add a shot of scent so they will hold it long enough for me to set the hook. Don't forget to reuse the smaller pieces of the senkos when they break. To me on a frenzy bite any size will work.

With most of the suppliers out of stock color wise with senko type baits mister twister has a sale going on with there's, they are $1.50 for 10 of there senko type baits in the discount section on there website.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

Nose hooked and drifted weightless for smallies.  For LM i like to rig them texas style weightless with a 2/0 or on a shaky head basically draggin it along super slow.

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

I only have luck using the 6" never used the 4" before

Beat me to it!  Wacky Drop shot with this bait rocks!

fishing user avatarMccallister25 reply :

I use the BPS tournament series senkos in the 5 3/8". The only way I have confidence in fishing it is weightless. Iv tried wacky rigging them, and just dont get bit. I may have to try a smaller size though, everyones talking about the 4". I started off with the 5 3/8, so thats what Iv always used.

I disagree because i honestly catch 5 lb bass with them during spawn. yum 4 inch senkos? Holding back on lures and not giving them a chance makes you miss out on oppurtunity. Oh and for the question weightless whacky.

Completely the opposite... Never caught one wacky rigged, but I can slay 'em on a weightless t-rig.
