we do a fair amount ol fishing every year,but do you keep a guestimate on what you lose as far as tackle goes ? i call it a guestimate,even though it's not a word,but anyway i lost this year a total ol 24.00$ worth ol tackle. you don't think it's alot but after a while it add's up. so have you lost any tackle that put you back alot ol money this year? tackle isn't cheap anymore! lures,line,etc.. your thoughts on this. or doesn't matter? it does after losing a little here and there.

I really don't keep tabs on lost tackle. I have a peg board set-up with replacements for my most often used baits and will replace any lost baits from there prior to my next outing. I normally pick these up when they're on sale or clearance, so it doesn't hurt the pocket book as much. Honestly though, fishing from a boat the majority of the time, I loose very little in the way of lures. Most of the baits I'm replacing are soft plastics that are no longer useable. Either way, I consider it the same as a live bait fisherman would.......it's a small price to pay.
Now if you're talking loosing a rod and reel or some other expensive gear, that's a whole different ballgame..........Hope I didn't just jinx myself.

It's one of the reasons I don't buy the high end lures and baits. I'm sure they catch more fish, but I can't afford to dangle wads of cash on the end of a tiny fluorocarbon line when most fish don't know the difference.

It can matter, depending... But I have so much stuff now, I really don't do a trend analysis on it..
I have had what I would call, painful days.. Loosing Luckycraft pointers.. On Cumberland river in half a day.$50.. It's the price you gotta pay, if the baits are worthy... to me they are.. They are that good.. Same with Senkos/ Kut-Tale
They tear easily... You don't have to loose them to replace them. They are baits that work very well. All hobbys are expensive now... Gotta pay to play....

xcalibur rattle traps at 7 dollars a pop. it gets expensive.

It's easy to go through $24 of Roboworms in a couple of good outings. No complaints, I'd rather be out the worms & have a torn up thumb than never having to replace baits & getting skunked.

This is why you take advantage of sales each and every time!! I got 2 dozen Xcalibur one knocker lipless crankbaits at Cabelas as they had a blow out price on them, $1.99 each and I was lucky as they had 2 colors I really wanted. I don't use them all the time but when I do I know that at least 2 are going to be consumed by toothy critters and at least 2 more will fall victim to the deep water snag and that is what I average, about 4 lipless cranks a season so having all those baits at such a good price makes it much easier to deal with as I have to loose 3 or 4 to get to the retail price of 1. The same thing with plastics, I have a boat load and a half but I know that I go through a ton when a good worm bite is going and one of the worst things that can happen to us is to run out of a certain color worm when a good bite is on and then find out the local shop doesn't have any of the size, or style, or color of the one that is hot at that time so even if you have to get more than you think you need, it will pay off, sales are the key to actually keep the cost of what we lose lower than normal.

I made the mistake of trying tungsten, and now I can't go back to lead or steel no matter how bad my wallet wants me too.

With all the pickerel and bowfin in some places around here even bill gates would go broke using tungsten. I do like tungsten weights alot though! just cant afford em

With Senko's being $7 a bag, it's easy to go through 2-3 bags an outing on a good day.

Never heard of anyone losing their stamp collection in the lake, lol. $24 is pretty light for ANY hobby.

$24 in lost lures in a year? You're not fishing enough then.
My replacement costs for the soft plastics I go through every year is probably a few hundred. I can't even tell you what it is on line, hooks, and tungsten weights.
I've fortunate that I've only lost about 5 hard baits this season. I am unfortunate because 3 of them were LC pointers.

To update this thread, went out yesterday on the boat. Lost the following -
1 Rapala Skitter Pop
1 KVD 1.5
1 Strike King Football jig
1/2 pack of Senko's
Overall, that's about $20-25 worth of tackle in one outing. That's my worst outing this year as far as losing lures, but it does show that if you've only lost $24 worth so far this year, you're doing pretty good.

How do you lose a top water and a shallow diver? Break the line? If so, get new line.

I don't keep tabs on the plastics but when I lose a lure I make a note so I can buy another. $24 is great if that's all you lose in a season.

I get so frustrated fishing the local ponds where I live because they are loaded with big bass but they are extremely tough to reach, especially after rain and the water comes up 2-3'. I also like to try all my new toys in these ponds and some of the new lures, on the new 8 strand braid, really do have bearings that load to give you longer casts....
The Trees across the pond look like christmas trees when the moon is bright as it has Sebile lures, Yo-zuri, lots of jigs and quality hooks and worms, Jerkbaits, and topwaters.....I take a few casts every time I walk my dog and that rope from the fountain is another great way to lose lures and a good 4-6lb Bass always strikes when I am playing around with my new light spinning rod and clearance 8lb fluoro,so I either get hung up or just broken off.
The first time I took a cast with Sebile Stick Shadd 114mm Topwater that looks like a giant shiner it was pitch dark and I said to my friend "No wonder these lures are expensive, you can't even hear em land so they won't spook fish...I then realized that something wasn't right, and problem was I cast across the pond, and landed a good 10 feet up in the trees on a cast that normally would maybe go 20 yards....Yo-zuri Mag Minnows, and Excalaiber Jerkbaits cast further than most lures in their classes, and I no longer mess around with anything too expensive although I know 10lb plus Bass are in 2 of the ponds for sure, and maybe one much larger as a local kid caught and actually had it weighed at a local bait shop a few years ago that was 13.4lbs and all these ponds are from the same watershed and connect, so with all the forrage, and sounds and fish you see, I would say I have lost over $100 in braid alone in my neighborhood, $20 hooks, $200 lures, $10 leader and 1 rod and reel while fishing live shiners that was dragged into the water while daydreaming, and that was the Daiwa Aird combo that I really liked.
I don't worry about it, It hurts, but if you are not losing lures you are probably not in spots where fish are hanging. I do lose alot less on a boat with a lure retriever and I do try to get every crankbait back even a jig. Kayak and pond fishing is just hazzardous and it is like playing golf, if you take chances, you are going to lose a few balls every trip and that adds up even faster.

I've lost 8 10xds in one day once this year to go along with a few fb jigs. At $15 a piece, it adds up, but I don't mind, they catch big fish!

After reading this thread I feel a little better about my lost lures. I rarely lose T-rigs, but the plastics get torn up and stuff. I rarely, if ever, lose crank baits and top waters. Somehow, though, no matter how many jigs I buy my jig box never gets full. I swear i lose at least one of those a trip, if not two or three.

My brother in law and I combined for an about $450 on June 1st at Grand Lake. He lost a Curado 50E/Veritas combo, I lost a brand new pair of Costa Fisch sunglasses. Not to mention all the jigs we broke off and plastics we went through that day.
