Most lures/ equipment lost in a single fishing trip? 2025

fishing user avatarBankBassing reply :

My quickest/easiest place to go fishing, the place I can go almost any day, is the local dam.  There are plenty of fish there, but there is also a lot of swirling current that drags your lures down into broken up jagged rock.  It is rare to go there without breaking off at least once or twice.  Yesterday I had just a stellar day where I not only got skunked, but I lost a chatterbait, spinnerbait, and my last tube jig head.  What was your most costly day on the water?

fishing user avatar"hamma" reply :

During a tournament, the guy I was fishing with, would wait til I skipped my jig and pig up under a laydown and instantly step on the trolling motors pedal, snagging my jig on the tree. I must of lost 10 or more jigs. Nice guy huh? That was 20 or so years ago, and he is  a "favored" angler still.,.. did ya catch the "favored" sarcasim?

fishing user avatarTorn Thumb reply :

I lost 3 square bills in one trip earlier this spring. Luckily I got one back later in the week when it broke free from its snagging place and was floating right about where I left it. I now basically buy jigs just to snag them on things and lose them also.

fishing user avatarNathan Burton reply :

I owned a Megabass S crank for about 3 minutes once....

fishing user avatarCoopdog72 reply :

Remember those Lazer lures. Well there were about 20 a piece. Don't laugh guys I got 10 of them, yes my wife was ticked. Lol. I was fishing at Lake Juliette  in Georgia( it's a Georgia Power lake)  I kept getting hung up in the stumps, my wife begged me to stop. I just had to prove her wrong this lure was gonna catch a fish. Well long story short when I got my last one snagged it was about 6 feet out I had to go in and get it. My wife is falling out laughing, I was so frustrated, I was not losing this lure that I went in but forgot to take off my 250 dollar snake boots. So now when I'm looking for  fishing stuff, she still rolls over with laughter.

Back in the states, my cousin and I were fishing a big pond/small lake.  We could clearly see that there were bass here and plenty of structures and places for them to hide and ambush.  So we decided it would be a great day to drop shot.  Every time we hooked up to a bass, the d**n animal would run to cover so feakin fast that there was nothing you could do.  I went through a bag of Roboworms in the span of an hour.  My cousin lost his Rebel PopR to a tree and his chatterbait to a snapping turtle.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Just to give you an idea: I ended up pouring my own jigs and jigheads because it´s a lot less expensive than purchasing 10 or 20 after every trip.

But of course, if you ain´t casting them to where they can snag and get lost you ain´t feeshing them where the fish are.

  • http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/17192 Here's a link to a similar thread.
  • The most expensive trip so far was last spring when I lost an rcstx, two pointers, six trd's and shroom-z heads, broke my villain while trying to unsnag my pointer, and lost my net while trying to unsnag my other pointer with it.  All in one day.  Let's just say that I made a lure retriever before I went fishing again so I didn't have to stick my rod or net in the water to try to force it out, and I purchased equipment to start pouring my own jig heads that same week.

Boat, motor, trolling motor, & depth finder!

Few years back a tornado hit Fin & Feather took out 11 boats

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

I fish waters with lots of northern pike and pickerel, trees and rocks. I've had some expensive days.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I've lost well over $100 in baits on more than one occasion.

Also, zebra mussels suck.

Terrible. I couldn't fish a squarebill yesterday because every cast I made I was catching a live zebra, zebra shells, or zebra covered rocks. I've seen the empty shells 6" deep along the shorelines some summers. Forget about fishing anything that touches the bottom on the lakes where they're really bad, it's easier to just take the bait straight out of your box and throw it in the lake.

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

Most expensive day was not on the water, but when we moved.  Lost a couple jdm reels, tons of lures including a couple 3:16 hard baits...

Dude, that is awful.  I always thought of them mostly as a Great Lakes/ Finger Lakes curse/blessing, but it seems like you run into them a lot.  That has to be unbelievably frustrating at times.

fishing user avatarLast_Cast reply :

nothing worse than going fishing with people that don't have their own gear..Lures, plastics, hooks, weights all gone.

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

Pike love swimjigs. Brush loves crappie jigs.

fishing user avatartimsford reply :

I fish below dams all the time. Try using some baits that run higher in the water like topwaters, jerkbaits, flukes, paddletail swimbaits, underspins, inlines, and if you do want to hit bottom I rarely use plastics, mostly crankbait that float up out of the rocks. You will get hung a lot less, and I always do better with shad imitation baits near the dam in my experience.

I once fell at the local dam trying to fight two fish at once and broke both rods and almost my leg. I had also broken off some cranks earlier in the day so it was pretty expensive. I caught a 10 lb striper, 6 lb smallmouth, and 20 lb flathead that trip though so it about makes it worth it.

fishing user avatarFurther North reply :

It's completely cheating...but the most gear/lures I ever lost on a single trip was when a tackle box foll of flies, misc. fly fishing gear and reels was stolen from my boat.

I was $1800 gone in less than 5 minutes.

...but here's the good thing: Covered by insurance.

fishing user avatarCranks4fun reply :

Greetings! I am a new guy (1st day on here) from SW Missouri. We (friend and I) dumped a canoe in the swift water on small river in early March (water temp about 38 degrees). We lost everything initially, but our lives. We recovered the boat and chased our tackle (2 FULL boxes and 7 rod & reels, a cooler, and a dry bag) down to the shallows we eventually recovered most of our stuff except for 2 hoodies and a brand new (less than 24 hrs old) Pfleuger President combo, freshly spooled with $17 worth of InvizX Fluorocarbon. That loss, along with the cold water, ruined my day! I did not sleep well for 2 nights wondering where my President reel was drowning. I have lost two other rod & reel outfits (an Ambassadeur 5500c3/ Daiwa Rod and a Rapala UL Spinning outfit) years ago when I was living in SE Virginia, but this last loss was BRAND NEW! :(

fishing user avatarCatch 22 reply :

I usually go thru $80 of LC`s per winter.

Worst loss===I broke 5 rods when I jumped into my boat to load just before a lightning thunder  storm.

Do lower units count? Price goes way up on those!

fishing user avatarGetBent reply :

Lost a $22 A-rig but not before I snapped a custom $230 rod in half trying to get it out ?  I lose about $12 in tackle at minimum when I go fishing. Fishing the Mexican side of the lake me and a buddy lost 3 crankbaits in about 5 casts in a Mexican gill net. We moved after that. LoL

Ouch!  I lost a Vision 110 once, got it back, and promptly lost it again about an hour later.

Last Sunday while fishing a tournament I lost both my Ish's Phat Frogs to pike after I had caught several fish, including my biggest, then snagged and lost an entire Carolina rig. That was kind of annoying! I also thought I lost my Tru Tungsten Madd Max frog, but my buddy found it yesterday under the seat of his boat. However, my partner and I did finish 3rd so I made up for it a little.

fishing user avatarGORDO reply :

I lost 20 T-Riggs in 1 day. I know this because I went through 2, 10 packs of bullet weights lol

Hope they weren't tungsten

Wow, these stories are heartbreaking.

fishing user avatarprjavelin reply :

I once lost a $25 custom painted vision 110 that I had made and took 2 months to get it in my hands within 10 mins of putting it on the water. The wait alone to get that beauty made made me so anxious I would never order custom made baits again. I bought 3 more that now I wont throw because those are too amazing to lose in the lake.

fishing user avatarKtho reply :

I lost close to 20 jigs and jigheads fishing at night along a big chunk rock wall. Some of that is the rocks and some of that is fishing at night. If I cast and didnt hear a splash "awe crap not another one"
