When times are hard and you don't know what to do, what is your lure that you have most confidence in using?
Mine is gonna have to be a Texas rigged senko in black and blue flek.
i would also have to agree with the texas rigged senko. but i use white or yellow on a cloudy day or a stained water and red or brown and watermelon if it is sunny and clearish water
Rage Cut R first, if that doesn't work a Fat Max ribbon tail.
Mike
Good choices, if black and blue doesn't work I like to go with watermelon red. If the water is merky and they aren't biting black and blue I'll go with something with a kicking action like Mike L was saying, a ribbon tail or speed worm.
Zoom Lizard - Mossy Pumpkin or Black w/ Red Flake ..... they will make the final decision.
7" (or thereabouts) ribbon-tail worm, tequila sunrise, 3/0 round bend worm hook, 3/16 bullet weight.
For faster moving lures, a 1/2 oz. Strike King Red-Eye Shad in Sexy Shad.
Tom
Green pumpkin jig with a rage craw or chigger craw
3/8 brush jig with rage menace or twin tail grub
Past several months this is being replaced by a crankbait. No one in particular because it depends but I've been getting bit on cranks at times and in places that they won't bite anything else
Wacky or neko rigged senko.
I do like to fish with a football jig (preferably black and blue), I'll get as big as 3/4 ounce and no smaller than three eighths. I normally fish with a rage tail, menace, creature hawg and probably my favorite trailer that's really subtle is a Berkley power bait.
Z-Man Finesse TRD in green pumpkin on a mushroom jighead.
A year ago it would have been a wacky rigged Yum Dinger.
6 inch roboworm. Morning dawn.
depends on the season for me
spring is a lipless or big glide
summer its a deep crank or t-rig
fall its a frog or jig
winter is just when i crying
Topwater
I don't really have enough experience to have a "confidence" bait. A week ago I was out for the first time this season, and I tried most of the soft baits mentioned above and never got so much as a nibble. Changed to a red craw colored DT-Flat medium diving crank (6-10 feet) and almost immediately caught a 17" walleye. Then shortly after that I brought in a smallish, maybe 7" white crappie. After no more bites for a while I switched to a bluegill crank, same depth, and caught another walleye. After that I got nothing. Never saw any sign of a bass. Water temp couldn't have been more than 40°. I'll be heading back to that same spot (100 acre pond about 1/2 hour from home) as the water warms up and see if I can find the bass that are supposed to be in there.
So if I had to pick one that gives me confidence right now it would be a crank, because I at least caught something on it, even if I didn't find any bass.
I don't know much about northern fishing, but I do know that cranks are a very versatile bait when it comes to fishing for LMB's. Any fish will hit a crank because what does it imitate, a bait fish of some sort. What type of bait fish do you see in the water? You could even throw a crappie colored crank bait around those pilings that the crappie hang out at. Strike king makes my favorite crank baits. I like to fish the 3.5 when they are more aggressive and in deeper pilings and the 2.5 for the lay downs on the bank. Good luck on your pond fishing journey.
A Texas rigged something . Doesnt really matter if its a craw ,lizard , worm ,tube as long as I can bounce it around inside heavy cover I'm confident it will get bit .
Depends on the season / month ~
Early Spring / April ~ it's a Jerkbait or a hairjig
Late Spring / May ~ it's a Rattle bait or a hairjig
Early Summer / June ~ it's a squarebill or a jig
Mid Summer / July~ it's a drop shot or a jig
Late Summer / August~ it's a spinnerbait or a jig
Early fall / September ~ It's topwater or a jig
Mid Fall / October ~ it's a swimbait or a jig
Late Fall / November ~ it's a blade bait or a hairjig

My confidence big bass lure is a jig n pig (the real thing), numbers soft plastic worms.
Tom
I'm seeing a lot of one particular lure and it's one I rarely use but I'm making myself use it this year.
Got to be a senko
Plastic - Junebug Zoom trick worm fished shaky head
Moving Bait - Strike King 2.5 KVD Sexy Shad Square Bill
Topwater - White skirted buzzbait

I think I noticed a theme there.
I wish it wasn't a senko. But it is.
Lol, so lots of senkos and jigs. My kinda fishing. That's what I started fishing with.
Texas rigged power worm
Shakeyhead with finesse or trick worm
A Zoom Super Fluke. There is just something about that bait that works for me even others don’t get a bite.
I’m gonna go the opposite way of most guys, and say something fast to cover water. I’d say it’s a tie between a spinnerbait and a jerkbait. I’ll still use a lot of slower presentations but if I’m on an new lake or just trying to sort out what the fish are doing that particular day, I’m going to cover as much water as possible and try to get it in front of as many fish as I can. That’s my “confidence” way of doing it, and it’s a rare day I can’t produce some fish on one of those two baits.
Power fishing is a good way to start out on a new lake. When I find them that's when the slow fishing comes into play.
For me it would be a baby brush hog, trick worm, or centipede.
spinnerbait or a hollow body frog
Whatever lure I'm throwing is the one I have the most confidence in...
Senko
If I'm having a tough day and can't catch a fish on a Ned Rig (Z-Man TRD on a ShroomZ head), I had better head back to the launch...
Second choice: wacky-rigged Senko
Third choice: T-rigged Pit Boss
Fourth choice: Jig and craw trailer
Tight lines,
Bob
I live in the deep south and I can always seem to tick off a bass enough to strike my spinner-bait. Burning, knocking off trees, or a straight fall usually gives me something. Plus it allows me to cover plenty of water to tell me to slow down if I need to.
while I use a lot of different baits, There is always a ned rig and a shakyhead/trick worm rigged and ready in my boat.
A Smelt colored Berkley Powerbait Pro Grub on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz. jig head.
Depends a lot on the situation, but it's going to be a toss up between a jig, Ned rig, wacky rig, or bladed jig.
I have a variety of plastics in Junebug and Candybug. Have most confidence in a trickworm.

Gotten to where the first things I try is a weightless T-rigged senko. If that fails after an hour, I switch to a wacky rig and try a few different worms. If that fails after another hour, I'm best off packing up and going home cause they either they aren't there or aren't biting. Senko is my #1 choice, I've caught more on that than anything else. Only gotten lucky once with a ned.
Jig or spinnerbait..... or squarebill.

I noticed that as well. A-Jay knows most of his months and he can list them in order too.
Right now it’s a lipless crankbait.
Good choices guys!
Finesse worm normally, colors depend on situation...motor oil/chartreuse, watermelon, junebug...murky, clear and muddy...
What I have confidence in, changes seasonally.............BUT................these 3 things are tied on year round. A drop shot rig with a nose hooked finesse worm, a wacky jig with a stick bait, and a finesse flipping jig.
Whatever I have tied on is what I put my confidence in. But if I had a choice i would pitch a jig or Texas rig 100% of the time.
Mine would have to be a 7" zoom worm in brown with black flecks Texas rigged with a chartreuse or white perfect skirt between worm and sinker. And a Texas rigged Berkeley havoc in green pumpkin.
I do pretty well with some kind of senko and frogs for my bass fishing.
Senkos in colors of Watermelon,Green Pumpkin,June Bug.
You really can't go wrong with those colors.
Ned Rig (ZMan TRD in California Craw with a 1/16 oz Shroomz jighead)
I noticed if I am throwing any other bait & not getting bit, my first thought is to wonder if a different bait would work or if I am just in the wrong area. With a Ned rig, if I am not getting bit, I know I am in the wrong area.
Just started to fish more last year but I like my wacky rigged green with black flecks yum dingers, caught 30ish fish on a whole bag one night.
Green pumpkin senko texas rigged. In the morning a hula popper or booyah pad crasher.
Sweet lures, those are some of the ones I throw on a regular basis.
Doesn't matter if I'm in a boat, kayak or on the bank...whether its a river or lake or tidal coves....I always have one rod that has a Rage-rigged Cut-R or Rage Bug on it -- nearly always green.
I catch more fish on that rod/lure than any other....because I throw it the most???...or do I throw it the most because I catch the most fish with it?
Wacky senko, black and blue rage blade, green pumpkin or black trick worm, and a swimming super fluke jr...

Hah, this is my favorite reply yet. So true. Plus if you're in the wrong bass area with a Ned rig, you'll still catch bluegills.. crappies.. pike.. walleye.. etc etc.
These past few days it's been a swim jig. I've been fishing a lot of grassy lakes and have been doing pretty good with them. When they want something a little bit different I just t rig a soft plastic swim bait without the weight
The one that worked the best the last time I went fishing. I have many confidence baits. To name one it would be a 7" T-rigged pumpkinseed power worm, 3/16 oz weight on a 3/0 Gamakatsu straight shank worm hook.

Weightless Texas rig watermelon red flake Zoom trick worm or a popper!
I've moved from texas rigged 6in worms, to texas rigged senkos, to wacky rigged senkos, to 4in Keitech easy shiners, and now to drop shot. Of all things, drop shot! A lot of folks say that drop shot is a novice technique for small fish. While most would be correct, they are also incorrect. Novice or pro, drop shot can be killer. When the bite is tough, I always have a drop shot rigged ready to go.

When nothing else catches fish pull out a ned rig and a drop shot. You will catch big and small fish. You pretty much summed it up for what to use and catch fish.

It is just such a versatile bait for the lakes I fish. Flip it, drag it, jig it, swim it, or shake it. You can throw it in wood, rock, weeds, or even drag it over moss.

I have caught some monster bass on ned rigs and drop shots with 4" baits. Works wonders on pressured fish late in the season.
I haven't seen hardly anyone say that they have confidence in cranks or Alabama rigs.

That's the only reason I was able to pull some good fish we needed to make the cut a few weekends ago. Very very effective rigs.
Putting your confidence in one lure seems pretty weak to me. Confidence, can mean many things, and I am on record stating how overrated I think it is.
Weightless Bubble Gum colored Zoom Trick Worm, followed closely by all other color Trick Worms.
If I had to survive on what I catch, I would throw this more than anything else. In fact, I usually do.

I just picked up some Keitech Easy Shiners. How do you rig them?

One of my confidence lures, so, I when I use both the Easy Shiners and, more lately, the Shad Impact, I use a 3/0 60 degree bend jig hook to which I add an Owner CPS (medium size). I screw the nose of these two plastics onto the CPS, then Texas Rig it from there leaving the hook hidden in the slit up on the dorsal side of these shads, slightly skin-hooked. I throw mine weightless, want the look of an injured or dying shad. ***One thing: Try fishing these "finesse" and less so on an over-active retrieval, almost like a T-Rigged worm, even dragging it across the bottom.
Oh! My other big confidence bait? A small Roboworm (Morning Dawn or Aaron's Magic, etc.), on a Roboworm Gamakatsu Rebarb hook, Texas Rigged.
A Senko would be a third, wacky or T-Rigged.
Look at all of the responses and one can quickly see why Gary Yamamoto can charge a premium price for these.

Thank you sir for calling me weak, I can't help I'm 15 years old and may not be "mentally" strong or however you want to put it. I have confidence in every lure. That's the only way to catch fish is to believe. If you don't have confidence in anything your not gonna try to use it for very long, it's that way with anything. I'm trying to say when nothing else works what do you know is gonna catch them. I asked a simple question on this site about what's your confidence lure, not for how weak I am for liking to throw something more than others. Also thanks for calling me overrated, I like the encouragement.

Ahh don't let it get to ya. It's a public forum and people will, and do say whatever crosses their mind (like I'm doing now) Just let it roll off you like water off a ducks back.
When you get a $50,000 bass boat, $5,000 in electronics and 20+ years learning about the sport like some people have you will have confidence in stuff besides lures, but until then just roll with what you know.

Man fishing rivers around here most locals almost always have either bubblegum or merthiolate trick worm tied on. And consistently catch fish. Weightless or t-rig

They make swimbait jig heads that you can use such as the Dirty Jigs. Hook up is great but they're not very weedless. If you're looking for a more weedless rig I often use Owner Ultrahead Finesse Ball Head. It's basically a wide gap hook with a weight on the head. Works great!
I'm not calling anyone weak. I'm calling the argument that some inanimate object somehow gives you confidence is false hope. What happens to your confidence the day that magical lure doesn't work? Then what? Do you fail? Or do you adjust? Have confidence in your skills in locating active fish, and using a bait that matches the situation. I have confidence in my problem solving skills. To me, a confidence bait is darn near the same as the next new magic bait.

Agreed ????
My confidence is in plastics!
Once the boat comes down off of plane the first thing I grab is a Texas Rig, Wacky Rig, Shaky Head Weightless T-rig, Carolina Rig, Jig-N-Craw, Mojo Rig, Rage Rig, Drop Shot or anything that takes me to the bottom.
I'm gonna be casting, flipping, pitching, punching, hopping, dragging, shaking, dead sticking, or skipping.
I don't care if its grass, brush, timber, rocks, docks, pads, lay downs, shore line or off shore. I don't care if its pre- spawn, spawn, post spawn, summer, dog days, fall, winter, morning, noon, or night.
Give me 2 rod-n-reels with any of the above techniques & I be happy, happy, happy!
Well dude, I just asked for what's your confidence lure not all that. I didn't want to cause trouble or an argument. There is no magic bait for me. When the bait I think that's gonna catch them doesn't, that's when I try something else I think is gonna work under whatever the conditions are that day. If that bait that I'm confident that will catch them doesn't, it's going back in the bag. It doesn't matter what your throwing or what your doing, you HAVE to have confidence in it. Enough said.
Relax Francis, it's called having an opinion. Not everyone has to agree with everything you or I say.
I am confident that EVERY SINGLE BAIT I own, can and will get bit, if the conditions are right.

Ned rig for me. If I can't get bit tossing a ned rig around, then I start to assume the bite is off. I wasn't a believer last year, but at this point i'm totally sold. Was bummed last night when I broke off on a fish (should have re-tied) and didn't have any TRDs in my bag.

Yes, there is. But in short, I would throw it anywhere that doesn't have heavy cover. It is fairly weedless, even with the exposed hook, so you don't have to sweat too much throwing it near grass. But I wouldn't be chucking it into the heart of some pads or a big laydown.
I've heard a lot of people talking about bouncing them along the bottom. My best success comes while swimming them just above the grass.
PS, I fell for the Hogz. I wouldn't buy those again if I knew any better. Casting distance is quite poor compared to the regular TRD and I don't think they're any more effective at catching fish.

The drop shot is a very effective way to catch fish, also a weightless finesse worm or fluke can be deadly along or through grass.
I'm starting to see more of a fluke or drop shot approach. I've never thrown a drop shot, it must be something. I've seen people catch fish on it right beside me but I never think to pick it up and try.

4-inch TX rigged worm, watermelon with red flake, 1/4 oz bullet weight, unpegged.
My confidence lure is normally whatever I caught them on last trip ????. Recently it has been a 3/8 ounce green pumpkin bitsy flip with a zoom ultravibe speed craw. Nice little compact package, heck my brother even caught two stocker trout trolling with it in the middle of the lake ????!!! Last summer it was a dropshot finesse worm. Who knows what it'll be next time lol
This poor guy is going to have to make a new account with all the notifications he’s getting.

I tend to do that ALOT, I have confidence in every thing I throw but it's gotta be the senko for me lol

Who me?????????
KVD 1.5/2.5 Crank or Texas Rigged anything on brush or laydowns.
T rigged soft plastics.
• Zoom super fluke
• 4 inch Senko
• Small ribbon tailed worms.
These are my numbers baits, that are about equal. Of the 3, I catch more quality fish on the fluke, so it has an edge .
Primary colors are watermelon shades.

Those styles and colors tend to work really well in the south.

My favorite type of cover to fish with those baits, besides rocks.

Perfect set up for a lake that I fished last weekend, we absolutely tore their mouths up. We were catching a lot in just one small cove.

Everything on there is the same accept for the Rapala DT6. I can't throw a big crank, I just don't have confidence in that area yet. I like to throw a 1/2 ounce football jig.
