I didnt catch a big fish this past year . An 8 inch blue Jelly Worm , I think nabbed the largest .
Not much , a bad year for big fish but a good year for limits of 15 inch keepers .
I had the same luck as you, the biggest bass I caught this past year came on a 4.5 inch roboworm on a dropshot.
Last year my biggest largemouth was 5 lbs and my largest smallmouth was 4.5 lbs.
Both were caught on a 6 inch trick worm on a shaky head.
Spent most of my last year chasing trophy catfish, but my largest bass came on a wacky rigged 5" green pumpkin senko. Fish was about 4 pounds, which is decent for my lake here in central ohio. They electro fished last year and largest that came out of the whole lake was 5.2 pounds.
A homemade football jig caught my biggest largemouth of last year, 6.65 pounds. Already caught 2 bigger than that this year
I didn't catch a smallmouth worth remembering last year unfortunately thanks to constant high water conditions.
8 pound 3 ounces on a purple wacky rigged Senko.
2.4kg (+- 5.2oz) on a black and red 3/4oz Colmic Gamera Jig with a zoom z craw trailer.
spro little john dd in cell mate
My biggest bass of 2017 luckily came in tournaments (both big wins). A 6 pound largemouth on a Spro frog and two six pound smallies, one on a 3.5" green pumpkin coffee tube, the other on a 3.5" Biffle bug.
Dirty Jigs swim jig in Okeechobee 420 color, with a Rage Menace Grub in watermelon seed color on the back. Caught on the 4th of July.
Pad Crasher caught my 2 biggest bass last year, 5 lbs even and a 6lb 8oz, both largemouth. Caught within 20 minutes of each other and they were the only 2 bites I had that day
Culprit 9 inch fat max. Okechobee color. I was swimming it like a swimbait on a jig head.
this 5+ LM on a 5” june bug Zoom lizard in late October. so dont let anyone tell you that a lizard is only a springtime lure.
4 lb LMB caught late summer on a weightless Zoom Trick Worm in Candy Bug. I can't break #5 :/
5+ LM on a Dredger CB in 8 ft of water

That was a Bennington 2250 GSR which is now retired for a Lund
5-6 LM on a 6" black PowerBait Lizard, T rigged
5,7 and 8 pounder all caught on a Ratl-trap
Biggest Bass of 2017:
3 and a half pound LMB on a Yum Dinger
3 pound SMB on a Z-Man TRD
Black and Blue poppin pad crasher. No idea on weight, but it was almost 29 inches.
Rage Craw
5.5 Largemouth on a 3.5" tube and 4.8 Smallmouth on a Fat Ika both in green pumpkin.
I don't know how much she weighed, but it was a Smallie around 21" based on a rough measuring.
Caught on a 2.5" Cabin Creek Tube on a Cadman's Smallie Crawlin jig. Seems like my beat fish ALWAYS come on that presentation.
I netted this fish for my partner during a tournament in June. She weighed 9.25. All shoulders no belly, caught on a black spro popping frog
7.25 lb pig on a 5" black with green and red specked T rigged yum dinger.
6.7 pound largemouth on a vision 110, followed by a 6.5 (also on the vision 110) two casts later
Can't remember exactly what my biggest smallie weighed, but it was about 5 or just under if I remember right. Caught her burning a 1/4 ounce ratt-l-trap.
4.5lb largemouth on a Carolina rigged June bug colored straight tail worm.
biospawn exostick (red bug) weightless wacky rig on 1/0 gammy weedless finesse wide gap...
I caught a 20"+ smallmouth on a War Eagle Extreme Trokar Colorado/Willow Sexy Shad spinnerbait, on my first cast of the day too. I didn't take my scale with me unfortunately.
I got skunked the rest of the day.
Largemouth I'm not sure on, biggest one I weighed was 5-11 (right side in pic) but I got one that I think might have been bigger but I didn't weigh it since it was a practice day (left side in pic, longer and bigger head - but spawned out). The 5-11 was caught flipping a Rage Bug into log jams and the unknown LM was on a Shakeyhead/Trickworm skipped under a dock.
Smallmouth is also unknown weight since it was also a practice day, but it was easily my biggest SM of the year. Caught on a Pointer 65 and 6lb line .
Spotted bass is yet again unknown even though it was on a tournament day...I just had a 4lb LM that day also so I never bothered to weigh the spots individually. I probably had 5 or 6 spots of similar size to this one also on the same trip...Spots are only found in 1 lake that I fish on a regular basis and they are relatively new to that lake as well. Big spots all came on a Vision 110.
I typically only weigh single fish if they are the lunker of a tournament bag. I have a good idea of what the unknown fish weigh but no reason to post a guess .
Duo dr62 caught me a 6lb 2oz lmb in spring. Swaiver 168 caught me a 5lb 9 Oz and a 5 12Oz in the fall.
I caught 7.7# on white 3/8 oz Chatterbait in shallow weedy area. 2nd largest 5.8# came from 08 Rapala Husky Jerk. My water is pretty muddy with only a foot or two of visibility.
7lbs. BB-cricket
My biggest of '17 (7 lb.ish) came on a dink bass stuck to a #5 Rippin' Rap. Both bass were released unharmed.
11.4 , 6th sense dd500 gizzard or threadfin , I forget.

Close to the world record in length
Black and blue senko
Biggest largemouth caught on a Deps Balisong DD jerk bait & biggest smallie caught on a Smithwick Rogue DD jerk bait.
4-1/2 pounder on a black jig with a black craw trailer. Got that one around some lily pads in about 3 feet of water.
Caught three 5 pounders this last year. Two on a black strike king football jig w/a Bps triple ripple craw trailer and one on a t-rigged crazy legs chigger crawl (bream) with a 4/0 ewg and 1/8 Oz. gold bullet weight. Also caught a quite a few in the 4+ range with a t-rigged venom tube (roadkill). All but one were prespawn. This past summer was rough.
Biggest largemouth was caught on a under spin with a fluke in December. 8.9 pounds
Biggest spotted bass on a lucky craft rto dd. Just over 6 pounds.
I did catch a gigantic catfish on a whopper plopper.
A 5,5 pounder with a custom painted in craw pattern flatsided coffin lip crank (an evergreen flatside replica).
I have caught several good bass in this lure this year in the rip raps.
10-6 on Zoom Mag Fluke
7-5 on a Biovex Spinnerbait

A couple of late season Yak trips to the Rez paid off for me.

11/30/17 - Launched out of Fountainhead. Water Temps: 47 Size: 20.25" / 5.5# (PB for the 2017 season) Lure: Jig & Pig Location: Main Lake Point
No big LM in 2017 for me but I caught my PB 4lb 10oz smallmouth on a MB vision 110.
4.25 lb largemouth on a Netbait Paca craw in the Coosa Special color, on a VMC 1/4 oz rugby head.
For some reason for the years 2015-2017, 2017 was the year with the fewest fish over 4 lb.
Thanks to Bass Resource, it was the year of the most consistent bass fishing, and I taught a lot of kids and their Dads to catch them - that was a definite "win" for 2017.
After reading all these replies, I need to start throwing a jerk bait this year.
Didn’t have a scale but the biggest of 2017 was on a River2Sea BullyWaII
My best one was this 8lber on blades.
Best smallie in the boat was just over 5, on a drop shot Berkley gulp 4” minnow, smelt colour
Best largemouth also just above 5, green pumpkin Berkley power thief flipped into a small cabbage bed.

These two from last season (just shy of 12 lbs) can totally vouch for that as a solid plan ~

7.5lber on a 4 inch swimbait.

Sweet mother of
10th (give or take) EVER cast with whoper plopper 90.
Only 5.5lb, but it was (is?) my PB.
8.6 pounds , caught on a 4 inch red w/black watermelon GY senko.
Hard jerkbait, just like last year, and the year before that.
7.5 on a 1/2 oz. Chrome/black rattletrap and an 8 on a 5" paddletail
10.5 inch excite baits maximus worm. 6/0 ewg 3/8 ounce weight. 7lbs 2oz. My pb...for now
Dang! My biggest largemouth was 4.2 pounds (according to my cheap-o scale). Looks more like it would have been bait for some of the slobs a few of you tied into. Caught it on a six-inch BioSpawn Exostick (black/blue). Got my personal best smallmouth on a twelve-inch Zoom Ol’ Monster (South Africa) but it doesn’t count since I was fishing for largemouths and it (a.) wasn’t supposed to be in warm shallow water and (b.) had no business hitting a worm that big. (Not that I’m complaining.)
My two biggest was 2 4.5 lb small mouth. 1 one a super fluke the other on a Berkley Powebait two inch minnow. Both were white. My biggest Largie was just over 3lbs, caught with a Super fluke.
Swim jig, a tad under 8.
Didn't weigh it but all my bass this year were caught on BPS brand swimtail worms.
7" Junebug Fat Max ribbon tail.
Dont remember the exact weight but her mouth looked bigger than a toilet bowl!!????????
Mike
Biggest Smallie of 2017 5.18lb on a @Siebert Outdoors Custom Chatter Bait!
5.86 lb LMB and was caught on a 3/8 oz White Terminator Pro Series Jig with a Bone White Silver Gene Larew Hammer Craw as the trailer. Swimming it
Storm Arashi (blue back herring) rattling flat 7 caught me this one which was just over 6lbs if I remember right. Long and lean she was.
R.I. Skinny Dipper on the color Bullfrog. Sadly it was only 4+.
Didn't get on the big fish at all last year!
The one on the bank was on a Speed Worm!
Didn't bother weighting em ????
My grandson Aiden is always on big fish but he does have a pretty good guide!
Baby Brush Hog Watermelon Neon
8.7lb fish on a bagley balsa spintail.
My largest bass for 2017 was caught on a redeye shad, but it was only 14 . . . . . . . . . INCHES (LOL). I don't have much spare time to go fishing these days.
I had a down year for big fish.
Only two over 6lbs.... one caught on a beaver flipped under a dock, one on a swim jig.
Only a dozen and a half or so 5lb er's, biggest was a 5-13 caught on a jig when I took bclark7b out on our yearly spring trip.
ZERO 5lb + fish in tournaments this past season. Biggest was an upper 4lber.
ZERO 5lb + smallmouth this past season, but lots of mid to upper 4's.
That's not humble bragging....it really is/was a lower than average year for me for big ones. I am used to getting at least 1/2 dozen 6+'s, more 5+'s than I can remember , and getting at least one 5+ every few tournaments with largemouth. With smallmouth I always seem to get a handful of 5+'s every year, but not this past season for some reason.
Biggest LMB of 2017: 5.26lbs buzzbait (snooze alarm)
WA State
Biggest SMB of 2017: 4.91lbs
Crankbait in 10 f.o.w, color: perch pattern

My biggest smallie wasn't that big but a decent 17 inches. I caught it on a megabass sexy french pearl popmax.
5lbr on a BPS black Kermi.
6lb lm on a Pointer 100sp
5.25# on a 3/8oz Stanley Spinnerbait, Gold/Silver double-willow, "Golden Bream" skirt
Idk this guy might’ve been bigger but I didn’t weigh him... Smalljaws on a DT10.
5lb largemouth on a Savage Gear Lily Ninja frog
A 4lb LM with a 1/15oz ned rigged Zman TRD Mudbug Tubez.
KVD 2.5 Squarebill. Chartreuse black back. 4.5 lber was the biggest I got last season.
A weightless trick worm skipped waaay deep under a dock.
The bass in my profile picture came on a white strike king buzz bait this past fall. Of course it was while I was pre-fishing for a tournament. Still a blast to catch though.
Caught my personal best largemouth of 4-14 last May on a black and blue Chatterbait. I also caught my personal best smallmouth of 4-8 last September on the same lure. Love that lure.
On 2/1/2018 at 6:09 AM, Justin62882 said:I caught alot of nice fish on that chatterbait. My friend for his personal best last February on that black and blue. 9 pounds 11 ounces. Also seen him catch a 4,5,and 6 pounder in 5 casts. Same lure. Trailer of choice for both of us for that chatter is a zoom black lizard blue tail with head torn off.
I would've never thought to use that modified lizard as a chatterbait trailer. Style points right there!

I actually just ordered more cotton candy lizards about 2 hours ago. I only use them for this application. I've never tried them another way I may need to but i caught alot of bass that way last year. Bigger bass came from the black blue. More bites came from this application though.
I fish a lot at night, so I can see the black blue combo being lethal. Maybe my next PB will come from this 'bump in the night'. Great tips, brother thanks! I would've NEVER thought of that for a trailer.

I used the Yamamoto Senko Swim bait as a trailer. Worked great but the don't last long at all. I went through a lot of bags last year. I'm going to try Z-Man's this year with their ElaZtech plastic.

Did you get the DieZel ones? I have never used them so I don't know how well they'll work. I just know the plastic lasts longer.
Caught my largest on a black/red football jig I picked out of the $1 bin paired with a watermelon/red flake beaver craw. Middle of the day in the middle of summer.
Pitched off the bank to underneath an overhanging tree in maybe a foot and a half of water and she violently choked it down just as I was about to reel it in.
Biggest smallmouth ate a chartruese/Black back KVD 1.5.
I dug it into a grass patch and ripped it out.
The biggest one I hauled in last year was only 4lbs caught on a red bug 10.5" Ol' Monster. I sure do miss that little pond by the house I used to live in down in Pineville. Will be doing my very best to top that this year. Who knows, maybe tomorrow it will happen or at least my first bass of the year. I'm going to Wallace Lake in the morning to try out some of my new baits/lures my awesome friend @A-Jay sent me. ????
Cinnamon 5 Inch Senko
6 pounder on a white wacky stick worm.
2017 was not much of a year for me. Best bass was on a KVD 1.5 a round 3 pounds. My sons best bass was 4.8 on a storm swim bait.
All of my big bass both large and small were caught on sieberts jigs with rage craw trailers. It was my wifes first year bass fishing. She caught some really nice bass using them also.
A brand of Popper that shall remain nameless caught my biggest fish. It was a shade over 5. That and a senko caught more bigger fish than anything else in 2017. Spring and fall were really good to me last year but the dog days of summer put a whoopin on me like I’ve never had before. I’m ready for the prespawn in 2018!
Biggest Largemouth was a bit over 20 inches on a Strike King 6XD in Black Back/Chartreuse.
Biggest Smallmouth was 18 inches on a Chrome (BS) Zerek Sabre Dance 85.
7 lbs on a Strike King 6XD in natural shad. Next largest was 6 1/2 on the same bait. One in April the other in July.
4.18 pound largemouth on a quarter ounce speed craw on a Dobyns savvy 766 with 50 pound braid.
A 4" white senko of all lures. Caught this 7.17, my new personal best.

Pics never do justice, this fish looks 4-5 at best. Nice job breaking 7lbs man, I'm hoping to get there this year!
I didn't catch anything that I would consider "big" in 2017. This one was 5.25 lbs. I caught it on a Zoom Finesse Worm.

I wasn't calling b.s. on you, just stating pics never do justice. I've caught 5lbers that were chunky monkies, then look @ the pics later and almost don't wanna show anyone, haha... so like I said, good job breaking 7, hope I can do the same
Yep, you are right, they never do justice.
6lb 9oz, tourney on Chowan on a home made rat crankbait......
White buzzbait.
Four and a half pounds.
White/Chartreuse 3/8oz Original Chatterbait w/ a Keitech Swing Impact trailer. Weight was around 5 (teetered between high 4's and 5 lol) .
I had two River Smallies that were basically identical. A fraction under 22". Cotton Cordell Big "O" in baby bass and a Zoom 4 3/4" finesse worm in baitfish.
Strike king burner spinnerbait
My biggest was a 5.75 pound largemouth on a Bone Whopper Plopper 110.
My 12 year old son caught his largest - 5.8 pounds - on a Lunkerhunt Double Willow Frog spinnerbait.
And all winter long I've had to hear him remind me he that was the season Champion by 5/100 of a pound!
7.05 on a chrome/blue rattletrap
Bone whopper plopper 90 in august
Megabass Knuckle 90 in December
