A Zman rep told me that they are coming out with something new that he thinks I'll be all over but he said he couldn't tell me what it is. So I will have to wait and see.

Daiwa is going to steal the show this year. Tatulas, Rods, hardbaits, more soft plastics partnered with Yamamoto and braided line. I'm very excited to see it all. Plus Kislter will have their new ZBone, Omega Custom tackle is revealing a new swim jig and spinnerbait.
Another rumor is Shimano is dropping a $50 reel based of the Casitas as well and Daiwa will have a Chinese outsourced sub $100 reel.
Saw these new possible products from Z-Man. Since I love all things Z-Man I am super excited.

To add... I've heard rumors the Shimano reel is an updated version of the "Bass Rise" and could retail as low as $44.
Shimano will be adding the DC version to the Curado K. Computer controlled casting.

The only thing I have heard coming from Shimano is the sub $50 reel and the DC Curado K. I'm sure they will have more but Daiwa's leaked products sound more exciting.

Hopefully they don’t run as crappy as the 90s.
Even though it is already out there I'm sure the Strike King KVD 1.5DD square bill will be chatted up at ICAST.
Have some coming this week.

I didn't even realize they were still relevant on YouTube.
The phrase "game changer" should be eliminated from all conversation. Put it on the list with "side hustle," "crushing it," and "content."
still trying to figure out how one would rig that craw on the finesse bullet jighead...slide it over the hook weight? seems like it'd tear it apart
The rumor is Lew's is going to win the "best of show" category again with their new combos, both spinning and baitcasting.
The combos will be called the Lew's Mach Tie Dye. They will feature Winn Grip handles and knobs that are tie dyed rainbow colors. Lew's will have a free offer of a tie-dye t-shirt with each purchase.

I've read that "best in show" awards at iCast are basically purchased.. not 'won'. Like the awards are mostly BS.
On 7/4/2018 at 3:11 AM, punch said:I've read that "best in show" awards at iCast are basically purchased.. not 'won'. Like the awards are mostly BS.
Who's doing the buying? I'd love to know, because as a member of the media, I get to vote. And nobody has ever tried to "buy" or otherwise influence my voting. If somebody's doling out dough, I'd like to find out who so I can sign up!
On a more serious note, everyone at ICAST - and in particular small business owners - are VERY proud of their products. If you talk to them, they are very passionate and obsessed about their company and its products, and truly believe what they are offering will completely change the fishing industry forever. They believe in their hearts, their stuff is the most unique and amazing products the world has ever seen....and is therefore a natural shoe-in for winning "Best of ICAST". In their eyes, there is no other reasonable outcome.
When their lofty expectations aren't meant, then in their eyes, there's no other reason than a conspiracy at work. Hence the rumors of "buying" votes, or that everything is "political", yadda yadda yadda.
That said, I do believe some things win when they shouldn't....mainly because there's nothing else better competing in their category. A new color of the same bait is not worthy of an ICAST award, but it happens sometimes. SMH

I heard that St. Croix is releasing a rod series that is made for kayaks called the mojo Yak
I'm pumped about this.
With Hobie's original Mirage drive patent expiring, Pelican is

I like the looks of that YUM Tip Toad. I love toad baits, but they seem like they've gotten so expensive and I'm not a fan of the paddle legs, seems like that could be a winner!

I found some YUM paddle-foot toads in a Walmart box one time and they've worked great. Wondered if YUM was experimenting with them.

You read that wrong. It's called zero adjuster. It still has a CC knob adjuster but it comes pre-adjusted from the factory so all you have to do is move the brake dial on the non handle side plate to your liking. They have that feature on the Steez SV TW's. On the few I have, it comes set correctly and is actually very difficult to move so it stays in place.

Fancy
Bobby Lane tweeted there is a new reel coming out Revo Rocket at 10:1 ratio that will move a bait at 40 in per turn. Will retail at $299.00.
Honestly the reels and rods get a lot of hype. I have seen em all Rock. In reality I've had shimano, citacas, etc for over 10 years all the new extras on reels really didn't make that much of a difference in my fishing. Remember the old green curados ,they are bullet proof ..Same with rods . I've bought the high dollar bells and whistles no need to over spend .

You owned a car for 4 years. You named it Brad. You loved Brad. And then you totaled him. You two had been through everything together. 2 boyfriends, 3 jobs, nothing could replace Brad. Then Liberty Mutual calls, and you break into your happy dance.
I believe the Sufix Advance was in the Bassmaster ICAST list. Looking forward to trying that more than anything else I've seen so far. But that is partially because I don't have funds in hand for a new Tatula.

LADSON, S.C. – ICAST 2018 Introduction -- For anglers looking for a versatile, easy-to-use, lightweight and durable baitcasting reel, Shimano's new SLX reels are the one more fish, one more cast, ‘Can’t Stop Fishing’ option. The series is offered in six models in three different gear ratios, including the 6.3:1 SLX150 and left-hand retrieve SLX151, the high-speed SLX150HG and 151HG with 7.2:1 gears, and the SLX150XG and 151XG with extra high speed 8.2:1.
Designed around Shimano’s HAGANE body concept - meaning a solid and precise aluminum frame, the SLX compact body still allows for plenty of line capacity - up to 105 yards of 40-pound test PowerPro braid. Shimano’ proven six-spin style Variable Brake System provides spool and casting control, while the sideplate is attached to prevent it from falling off when adjustments are needed with lures and wind condition changes. Each comes with a ‘Curado K type’ long handle with power handle knobs. Even with the aluminum frame and durable brass gears, each reel weighs in at a light 6.9-ounces.
“We see the SLX series as being reels built by, and for, anglers who demand bulletproof, unrelenting durability in their fishing tackle,” said Kurt Mazurek with Shimano. “Using one, whether you're an avid high school or college bass angler, a weekend warrior, or even those who anxiously await that annual special fishing trip with friends, it’s the reel you’ll appreciate to make that just one more cast - it’s our ‘Can’t Stop Fishing’ baitcaster.”
The SLX 15 and 151 pull in 25-inches of line per crank, the SLX 150HG and 151HG retrieve in 29-inches, while the fastest retrieve 150XG and 151XG pulls in 32-inches per crank. The each reel handles from 150 yards of 20-pound to 105 yards of 40-pound PowerPro braid, or from 120 yards of 10-pound to 90 yards of 14-pound monofilament. All six SLX casting reels retail for $99.99 (USD).
RACINE, Wis.– Minn Kota®, the leader in trolling motor innovation, will debut built-In MEGA Down Imaging™ in its trolling motors at the American Sportfishing Association’s International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST).
For the first time, anglers will have the option to select a Minn Kota Ulterra™, Terrova®, Ultrex™ or Fortrex® trolling motor with Built-In MEGA Down Imaging sonar. The Humminbird® MEGA Down Imaging transducer will now be integrated into the trolling motor to provide a clean set up at the bow for anglers. Humminbird’s ultra-clear MEGA Imaging™ is the first Down Imaging technology to enter the megahertz range with performance that’s nearly three times greater than traditional 455 kHz frequencies. It results in the clearest, sharpest on-screen images ever seen.
With Built-In MEGA Down Imaging, the transducer is housed in the indestructible lower motor unit and the wiring runs through the composite shaft providing clean rigging that is protected from wear and tear. In addition, having the transducer integrated into the trolling motors allows anglers to see what is directly below the bow of the boat, allowing anglers to make better decisions on where, and how, to fish.
“The integration of Minn Kota and Humminbird products is part of our commitment to providing innovative solutions for anglers as they seek to find and catch more fish,” said Minn Kota Brand Manager Brad Henry.
As part of the One-Boat Network™, the new Minn Kota trolling motors with Built-In MEGA Down Imaging feature Bluetooth® and i-Pilot® Link™. Bluetooth compatibility allows anglers to control the trolling motor from the Minn Kota app and make software updates wirelessly. Anglers can utilize i-Pilot Link to control their trolling motor from the Humminbird unit, the app or the i-Pilot remote to “follow” a contour at a set speed – with the press of a button the boat will automatically follow the exact path.
The new trolling motors are compatible with Humminbird SOLIX®, second generation HELIX®, and ONIX®models and will be available in the fall of 2018. For more information visit MinnKotaMotors.com.

I caught 11 river smallies on the Bone 75 Whopper Plopper this morning.I really liked it, I did not have any issues with line twist or anything like that, I felt like my hookup ratio was better than the normal Whopper Plopper sizes (90 and 110) and when I did hook fish they were hooked solid.

Basically a caenan with an aluminum frame, graphite side plates, with a 150 size spool and longer handles. Not bad I think it will be a very good reel in the long run.
Man....I could do this stuff....put a spinner on an existing bait...or take skirt off and put a soft paddle tail on a buzz.....re-shape a hollow frog into the shape of a fish and add some plastic trailer trash to the back.....lots of new stuff ....much of it looks like Frankenstein stuff that a 12 year old made in his basement....whoa...but that clacker on a buzz bait! Revolutionary

I read something about the “Tokyo Rig” a few years ago, but it had a different name. The article talked about how Japanese anglers are constantly having to innovate due to the extreme pressure that basically every body of water over there gets.

The zero adjuster is adjustable. It takes more effort to turn to dissuade people from cranking down of the spool tension and making the reel perform poorly. It's a dumb feature but probably needed.

I love it as I use reel covers and it seems like when putting them on and taking it off I end up accidentally "adjusting" my tension knob all the time. I would love it if I could rig all my casting reels to have a far stiffer knob.

Lowrance has been overshadowed by Garmin and Humminbirds’ offerings. I’m not even sure what they have, but I can go to their booth tomorrow.

What’s the benefit of the 75 over the 90?
Sounds like they've modified it to try and solve issues that people have with the 90. I like my 90s but they can be finicky sometimes.

Wonder if they were successful.

The LiveTarget craw jig looks... awesome. I bet it's going to be expensive.
The new Tatula rods & Tatula 100 reel looks pretty cool. I think Daiwa won in the rod & reel department this yea (for freshwater).

I honestly don't see how the tatula 100 could beat out the Curado 150 DC for best reel...that Curado is going to be amazing and retailers are going to have a very hard time keeping them in stock as well as Shimano will to keep production coming close to matching the demand!
I'm already thinking I'll pick up one of the new Daiwa 80 series reels, most likely the CG. Seems like these reels will cannibalize the other Daiwa offerings at the same price point though.

Around $10, depends on size.
Good video on the new Z-Man stuff. Love the new plastics. Can't wait to try them on the Ned Rig.

It's an automatic purchase for me. As soon as I watched the video, it was obvious this was winning an award.

I think it will be the opposite. DC reels are nothing new and they haven't exactly been flying off the shelves. The 2017 Scorpion DC has been out for a while at around $300 and no one hardly bothers to acknowledge that it exists.
They have their place and I have been meaning to get one for years but some of the newer DC reels have had a lukewarm reception so I have yet to commit. If this new Curado K DC is the real deal then I may pick one up. I'm waiting on TT review before pulling the trigger.
DC reels are not reels you should rush into and become an early adopters IMO. I hope the Curado K DC will be different but more than on DC reel release has fallen short of the high bar set by the Antares DC reels. The mindset among the DC crowd, from what I gather being a non DC owner, is that the newer DC reels are tuned to be newbie friendly and the lack the crazy distance the Antares DC was known for. The Curado K does look impressive in It's casting so I think it will break this trend but we don't have any feedback from early adopters yet. I want to know how it stackes up to the Antares DC.
In any case they will be a premium Curado and will move units at a slower pace than the regular Curado K due to the price and perceived novelty. Shimano should have no problem keeping up with demand.

Thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed that
That finesse bulletz rig looks really good.
I liked the new duckett silverado I bet that’s a dam good rod unfortunately duckett hasn’t been getting much attention. I believe they need to make some changes in their marketing. I’m not a fan of their cranking rods but other then that I really dig their rods very strong and sensitive.

I held this rod at the show and yes, it’s fantastic for the price ($99 I believe). I was VERY impressed by the Black ice rod. It feels every bit like a high end rod. I think that one is around $380 or so.

I agree with you that Daiwa had the strongest showing in the reel department.

There is a guy in YT that has the "C" reels and reviewing them. They don't look that impressive. Keep in mind they are DOYO reels (Abu Garcia, Lews, Pflueger) and I seen in one of the videos that they are lower prioritized by Doyo than the other three.

I ended up finding a deal on one and it should be arriving today. Not expecting it to perform like my Japanese Made reels, but on the other hand I'd hope Daiwa wouldn't put their name on a complete piece of junk either. Time will tell!

If this was true wouldn’t they have won best of show. Or at least one award in one category of the many products that they produce?

I enjoy my Lews and Revos quite a bit. I find it a bit comical that a Japanese company outsourced reels to South Korea who outsourced to China.

Not necessarily. The Curado DC was a big deal. It should have won best reel however nothing else Shimano showcased was inspiring. Daiwa on the other hand showcased a lot of products that are popular and inspiring. A $160 Tatula on a Steez frame, lower price point reels, upgraded version of the already fantastic Tatula rod lineup, new braided line, more soft plastics. The only other product I've even heard about from Shimano was the SLX but c'mon that's only a rebadged Citica E not that interesting.

It's determined by votes from show goers.

I’m aware, but I have to add field and stream also rated the curado dc as there number one pick for icast 2018, the new diawa tatula 100 was honorably mentioned as well. I believe there 4th pick of best products at icast 2018.
Anyway I know both companies are great manufacturers now the question bigger question is should I go for the new tatula 100 and opt out for the slx???? hmmm decision decision, life can be so stressful with the bait monkey on your back????

Could it be a small crawfish bait?
YUM's new smaller size of Pulse swimbait and their Tip Toad are both winners. The Toad caught fish for me during our Thursday night tournament and had very nice action and didn't roll like some toads want to do. The Pulse was my most productive bait Friday and not only has a nice swim on the retrieve, but wobbles so hard on the fall that my line actually looked like was pulsing, caught several on the drop because of it. Someone looking for a cheap Keitech alternative might want to take a look at them. Tons of great color options too.
Looks like a nice addition for the tool box!
