I am going to have to go with the Storm Kickin Slab. This looks great in the box and it only costs around $3. It looks like a cheap alternative to the Castaic Bluegill on the shelf at the store. However when you put this bait in the water it swims on its side with almost no action at all. In addition to this it sinks like a rock and gets hung up no matter how deep of water you fish this in. I think this lure is in the bottom of the big box at my house that contains my extra spools of line and other stuff I never take fishing with me. Has anyone else here managed to catch a bass on this lure?
Another lure that is useless would be the original rattle trap. I have caught a ton of bass on that $3 rapalla rattle trap and I have also caught a ton of fish on the $10 Captiva "Vibe" rattle trap which I think is the best late fall/winter bait in existance but I cannot catch anything but plants, weeds, sticks on the original.
Yeah the rattle trap sucks. It only won the bassmaster classic a couple years back. :

My brother actually has caught quite a few fish on the motominnow. He likes to throw it as a joke every now and then but it catches fish.
My vote goes to the Dancin' Eel

I'd buy it though because Chuck Woolery is on the site... heck it's HIS site!
No seriously, that thing looks like the fish that came with my kids fishing game...
Storm makes some good stuff, but a lot of there 'cheap' lures you can get at Wally World are terrible. I've said this many times, but avoid the unpackaged spinnerbaits and buzzbaits Wally sells. They are cheap and... made cheap and can't stand up to anything. 1 rock bump, BAM they are finished!
1. helicopter lure
2. any infomercial lure
3. any lure that has the claim "may be banned by tournaments".
4. banjo minnow (catches fish, but there are better choices)
Too many to name.
orignal rattletrap???????????????? We catch tons of fish on them especially in the winter and spring.
I don't know the name of it but it was a vibrating plug I saw at a musky expo. A guy I knew bought it as a joke. It would everyonce in a while just start to vibrate when turned on. It had no action in the water, just laid on its side. It looked and acted exactly like somthing from Adam and Eve website if you know what i mean.
Fishing was slow, he tied that thing on and every two minutes or so it would start vibrating for about 5 seconds...That was one of the funniest days on the water i have ever been a part of. Many beverages were included, but I think that was only half of it.
floating ribbits
Culprit topwater shad
My most recent debacle was the bump n run spinnerbait.Too many problems to even begin to type.Total joke of a lure.Beware of this gimmick. >:(Interesting and neat concept that will definitely hook a few fishermen.
mirror image swimming minnow (pretty much a knock off banjo minnow) worst $10 i ever spent
Matzuo crankbaits.
The worst.........simple any with a broken or missing hook. I have caught fish on every single lure I have purchased.
It ain't the bow, it's the archer.
NateFollmer: Those spinnerbaits aren't that bad.... They work pretty well, and for the money the durability is nothing to complain about. The wire is a little over-tempered, so it is hard to modify them, but otherwise I've never had a problem with them.... Just a interesting fact, but they are actually Strike King promotional baits.......
brushhoggin: Whats they matter with the Floating Ribbits?
SirSnookalot: Very true, but lures do play a role to a point, especially quality lures. There can be no doubt that a Lucky Craft does better than a Cotton Cordell......

I dont know man I'll take a Cordell spot against ANY luckycraft lipless bait regardless of price.

Lucky Craft lures are really nice looking but personally I've caught more on Bandit Cranks than L.C. ones. Both get the same amount of time but for some reason the Bandit ones just catch more for ME.
Worst lure? Don't really have one. Since I got back into fishing, I mainly buy what guys here tell me work.

I have to challenge that one........... I smoke SMB on Ribbit High Floaters open water!!

I do this all the time, catch 1 fish and immediately change my lure, catch second a do it again until I go thru my small rotation of lures, I seldom carry more than 4 or 5, consisting of some kind of hard jerkbait, gold spoon, storm swimshad, rebel popper and flats jig, catch rate on each is pretty close. Keeps it more interesting for me.
Laserlure- I had several sent to me as a promo. Never took em out of the package. The Laser is dead. Suppose I could still use em as a normal Crankbait though.

A strike king lipless crank bait was KVD's go to bait to win the 2010 classic, not the same as the original Rat L Trap. I have to say I'm not crazy about the original Rat L Trap either, doesn't seem to have the same action as the strike king or a Bagley's for me. Maybe just user error!
QuoteJust a interesting fact, but they are actually Strike King promotional baits.......
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Strike King couldn't have made something so horrible!
I bought 4 of them and they all broke within a month. I don't even fish spinnerbaits hard. Maybe I got a bad batch or something...
The worst bait I 've owned are the Heddon Cousin and Cousin II. have never caught anything on them.
Can 't say buzzbaits are junk, evidence shows they catch fish but they simply don 't catch fish for me, in 3 decades I 've must have caught maybe 5 or 6 fish with a buzzbait, I 've got two and hell, I 'm still trying to catch something with them. So, I suck at buzzbaiting. :-[

you have squiggle your mouth to the left & squint with your right eye when you cast your buzz bait. That should do it.

it is my worst bait. I'm sure there are worse lures. they dont have them in the natural colors like the regular ribbits, and their legs don't kick as well. they have to be burned to get action, i'm just really ticked off at em right now ;D
Any bait that breaks and causes fish to be lost because of bad design or workmanship. I have probably caught fish on everything mentioned here and even think some are good baits. If the bait breaks or hooks pull out of the bait that fish is gone. Lots of companies now are selling baits with lots of hype and promotion but no quality. So for me not any one bait but any bait with breakage problems that causes lost fish.

Ya, me too!
Pink Senkos
I don't know about worst but I am mad at Sebile magic swimmers right now. These things should catch fish but don't for me. They were my #1 draft pick lure too for this year.

QuotePink Senkos
Never seen those before. I have caught bass on purple senkos late at night though but purple seems to be a great color for plastics at night? Do you know what the purpose of pink plastics are anyway? Someone else told me they are better lures for mid day.
The Banjo Minnow for sure!
I must disagree with the original rattle trap argument too...
I have done great in deeper water with that lure. The plain silver with a black top has been the best. I think in clear water, mid day, deep fish that is one of my go to lures. Either a steady retrieve after a few seconds of letting it get depth or a raise my rod tip and let it really rip that rattle you can hear clear as day, then let it yo yo back down as you real in the slack.
I have even caught on the floater version of the original rattle trap.
I have gone to other lip less cranks....rapalla included, and caught nothing. The only other one I have liked and fish is a Berkley one that has a normal lipless head and then had a power bait tail. Think they are way out of production, but that has caught em too, also is just silver.
My worst bait ever was the rapalla weedless spoon. They had it come out in the late 90's and thought it was gonna be a killer..... it was not a good spoon and it was nowhere remotely close to weedless. I know people swear by this company.... and I own a ton of em, but I have NEVER caught a fish on one of their products. I still fish em, they look good and are well made, just do not bite for me.
Quoteorignal rattletrap???????????????? We catch tons of fish on them especially in the winter and spring.
We go thru cycles with that bait. Some years we catch so many it gets to be not a challenge. The last couple of years ? not so great.

Reaction Strike Fathead Jr. paddletail swimbaits. They even smell toxic.

I forgot about that one, but I would also include it in the fishing tackle Hall of Shame along with their Revolution Bluegill & Shad baits.

The Fathead Jr ~ I got a "good deal" on these baits a while back. However, these swimbaits might be effective somewhere for lmb but not where I'm at. I've caught exactly zero bass to date.
Fortunately, I have discovered that plus size Northern Pike Really like them so at least it hasn't been a total waste.

From what I've heard and seen, they are usually a really bright/ annoying pink. This is supposed to appear really bright to a bass and agitate them into striking. :-?
